Upon a Titanium backup restore tonight I had a look at the themes that were restored and I noticed that there was a 'Trial' banner that I hadn't noticed before. While I may have missed it previously, it seems new to me. When clicking further into the theme there was the option for trial or purchase. It seems to me that Samsung may be about to monetize the theme aspect of Touchwiz. While all themes were free after clicking the purchase option, it still seemed peculiar. Has anyone seen this before?
That's weird. All of the themes in my Theme Store are still for free. I'm on stock, btw. Have you flashed any custom ROM, lately? If you did, what ROM?
I'm running Stock ROM as well. I found this after rooting and doing a restore or the backed up themes I had previously. All themes that are not a restored version still show normal in the store.
If they monetize all themes.... goodbye to Sammy forever.. that's just a really scummy/low move.

Easily fixable if you have root.
Use any root explorer, I use Root Browser.
Go to data\overlays\jsonfiles\trialjson and move the apk's out of there to data\overlays\jsonfiles\userjson
Reboot phone
Profit

Thanks for the idea. I'm not overly concerned about it myself as this phone needs a warranty repair. That's the reason I needed to take a TiBu to begin with. It's nice to have this info in case others have issues with this down the road.

Right now that method works on cogul_black which comes up as trial if you install it.

And here it is. Time to start paying for themes.

This method was working however at the moment after the move, when I click the them to load it, nothing happens on click, is this a known issue, is it because of some new theme store?
Update: it still works, had missed deleting the preferences folder....
after a restart we need to reapply theme again is there any solution for that

Hello all :=)
Thought i would give a small quick guide for you hehe.
Ofc root your phone before this :=)
Step1.
Install Titanium Backup from market.
Step2. Start it.
step 3 Firstly, after you run Titanium Backup you need to tap on "Problems?" and accept to download BusyBox.
Step 4. Keep your finger pressed on the app you want removed.
step5. On the bottom of the options that comes up you find force remove app.
That simple it is
Im aware of some people have posted this in threads and such, but i thought i would make a simple straight forward guide for them that did not know about titanium backup
Warning
This will stop the OTA updates for your phones.
You will need to download the ZIP for the update when it's released here to update.
Or the RUU
The guide is incomplete. Firstly, after you run Titanium Backup you need to tap on "Problems?" and accept to download BusyBox.

You need to have the newest TitBackup 3.5.7.3 to do that. Then remember not to use Uninstall option but you need to keep your finger for a little longer to see full list of options and then select force to remove using Paul's recovery.
Thread stuck.
Works great!
Got it working now Is it true that if there's a new ota we need to flash this rom from scratch to be allowed to get the update?

Thanks fir this update.
So you guys removed which apps?
Other threads have reported that you may not be able to download future Android updates (OTA) if you remove apps. Is this confirmed?
Maybe issue a warning in first post to avoid problems later?

I see no point in having apps that I don't use. I prefer to have this space for things that I use. It's simple. No one is forcing you to remove anything.

Apps you install cannot use the space freed up with removing stock apps so it's useless. I rather freeze them with Titanium Backup and they're removed from the launcher and don't use system resources.

First of all, you don't need root to use transparent widgets or change your lockscreen. There's a thread full of transparent widgets here on xda. You do need root to use transparent versions of system apps. You can change your lockscreen by purchasing the app Widgetlocker or flashing a custom rom that comes with a different lockscreen. The lockscreens you generally see in screenshots are from WidgetLocker, though. It's a great app & fully customizable... more than worth the $3.
Before changing any system settings, you'll need to do a nandroid backup via your recovery. This way, if you change anything and it screws up, you can restore from a working backup. You can also use Titanium Backup to backup your apps & data.
But really, the first thing you need to do is read. Read all of the stickies in your device-specific forums. Read everything you can until you understand, if you don't you could end up doing damage to your phone.
Oh, and you may need to install busybox to get some root apps to work. You can acquire it through the busybox installer in the market, or Titanium Backup. In TB, hit menu, choose "problems?" then choose to install busybox.

It is not safe to move everything to your sd card. Widgets, launchers, and a lot of system apps are not okay to move. Don't move any kind of alarm either. Third party apps that aren't what I already mentioned should be fine to move. System apps that need to run constantly are not okay. If you don't know what it is, don't move it. Stuff like the calculator would be fine. The phone app wouldn't. Plus, and I could be wrong, but moving system apps does not give more room for third party apps, but gives more space to the system partition. I could be way off, so you may want to look into that.

Hmmmph, well it worked fine for me before I was rooted. I installed modded apks all the time, just not of system apps. It may have helped to uninstall first then install the new app. Since what makes the widget transparent is stored in a res/drawable folder in the apk, it could've been the apk that you downloaded. Or I guess it could've been the method of installation. As I said, worked fine for me.

You should be fine moving third party apps as long as they don't have widgets that you use. If you're using a third party launcher like ADW or LauncherPro, don't move that. Other than that you should be okay.
If you're having a hard time downloading apps from the market, try going into settings, applications, manage applications, then choose the "all" tab. Find the market app and force stop it. Then clear cache & clear data, then relaunch the app. That should help. If not, you can try using AppBrain along with Fast Web Installer to download apps from the market. I've found this method to actually be faster for me. If you can't get to the market to download the apps, let me know & I'll post the apks for you. Once you've downloaded the Fast Web Installer, you need to open it & follow the instructions to allow it to install apps for you.
Flashing a custom rom might fix your problems as well.
Oh, and no worries, I'm always happy to help out. This community has done great things for me - I try to give back when I can

I have already rooted after reading everything I can find.
I do have one question though. What is S on or S off?
I recently rooted my Skyrocket (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526) but am unable to delete apps. I have full superuser access and have even installed a custom ROM already, but the only option when I go to "manage apps" is to delete the updated version. I've even tried deleting the apps using Launcher Pro's method (long holding on the trash icon) and it just says "Uninstall unsuccessful."
So, what gives? Why am I rooted and don't have full access over my apps??
Thanks.
EDIT: Also, just to add, I have apps that came with the stock phone (like AP Mobile, AccuWeather, etc.) that I can see in the manage applications list under ALL but they aren't in my app drawer. So I get the worst of both worlds: some apps I can't access and can't uninstall!
Root doesn't change the fact that the apps are protected system apps. The default uninstaller will still stop you from fully removing them.
You can easily download a free app from the market, such as Root Uninstaller, to remove protected system apps. Just be careful, as you can so remove vital system apps crucial to the operation of android with root Uninstaller. Only remove apps you are sure won't hurt the system.

Many of the roms don't have the bloat. Look them over and see if any fit your needs. You'll need rom manager (marketplace). Before flashing any of the roms for this phone, read the threads associated with each one, so you'll have an idea about any issues. Make sure you also understand the consequences of flashing a rom.
You dont need rom manager. I dont use it. But some people prefer it.
---------- Post added at 07:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:54 AM ----------
Keep in mind. You can flash the stock recovery tar and still take an ota update. But if you delete bloat you can not. Youll have to flash back to stock. Unless you have a nandroid backup with bloat intact.

For those who are new to this, like me, it is the easiest way, after looking over some of the guides.
And if you choose to use rom manager. You have to select the tmobile galaxy s2. Skyrocket is not listed. But it is almost an identical phone.
Just download titanium backup, it can uninstall protected apps.

Thanks for the help everyone. I just moved from the Atrix which didn't have protected systems apps after bypassing the bootloader.
I ended up installing "Sky Ice Cream Sandwich" which I thought didn't have bloatware but it still shows up... And I did use ROM Manager but that was just because I wanted to get into CWM easier.
Anyway, I found a list of apps I can uninstall here so I'll just be using Titanium Backup since I've already purchased it.
Thanks again.
I use Titanium Backup, it works flawless and is really easy.
can't delete system apps
Hello. Pls help me to solve my problem. I've already rooted my HTC desire 620 but I still can't delete my system apps(no root permissions). Also doesn't works another apps with(root needs)
Thanks
I have tried multiple play store fixes from around the web and seemed to receive multiple force closes and various other issues when trying to launch Google play and Google apps. So, I decided to take the time to actually fix the files for the rom that I am currently using. Therefore, if you are someone who modified the DPI of your phone manually, happens to be running the Alpha for CM9 (or are willing to try with other roms) you can download the Vending.apk and GoogleServicesFramework.apk from this thread here and see if it helps you too. I should mention that you have to Clear data on the Google Play Store after replacing the files so it can again work properly.
I know many people are going to just say "why didn't you just download LCDModderPro, since it has the market fix?" Simple answer, because I wanted to do it myself. That is one of the great things about Android, it's open source and you can modify things to meet your needs. So why did I post this if I just wanted to do it myself? Well, once it was done I figured I might as well share... below are the links if anyone finds it to be useful.
Google Play 3.5.16:
My attempt at a CWM flashable zip: http://d-h.st/L5B

Google Play 3.7.13:

The files if you just want to copy them to /system/app yourself: http://d-h.st/GfI
I am requesting that only people more experienced try this one ^^ out. I am trying something different this time around and I only actually edited a couple of lines, literally one in both the GoogleServicesFramework.apk and one in Phonesky.apk. It has been working for me for three days now, if you have an issue or it fails to work let me know.
Don't forget to clear data for the Google Play store after installing

Google Play Version 3.5.19
I downloaded and installed the newest Google Play store version (3.5.19) and it appears that google has changed the display metrics from DPI to Height/Width. As of now, after clearing data and toying with the DPI some more, I still have access to all my downloaded apps and the error hasn't occurred. I will update if it proves necessary...

Yup. That is what I am seeing here as well. There should be a need to update the original post/files then. If people still want to use 3.5.16 until it is officially pushed to our phones then this will help, otherwise download 3.5.19 and you shouldn't have to worry about your DPI... as far as I can tell anyway.
I wish I would have found this before buying the LCD Density Modder Pro

Thanks for the hard work and the alternative approach to the app on the market! And thanks for the heads up about the new market

After flashing and trying different roms for a bit, I realized that Market 3.5.19 ultimately ended up having the same issues. I went ahead and updated the APK and updated the OP with the new link for the download. It is a CWM zip, don't forget to clear data after the install.
I have only tested this on CM9 and AOKP roms, it should still work on others… but I thought I should put it out there that I have only personally tested it on those two roms.

Yeah i can confirm this. 3.5.19 seemed to work for one day or so. But what ended up happening was that the apps just wouldn't show up at all. I normally use dropbox to test it but that always worked on this new market. Dolphin browser, Draw something, app quarantine wouldn't show up in a search. My phone is running sky ics 4.0.3, dpi 180.
EDIT: omg thank you! You are awesome! Thank you for doing this! You are faster with updates then LCD Density Modder pro, they are lagging it with updates. He is still running 3.5.15, amazing! You rock!
---------- Post added at 09:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:37 PM ----------
I just flashed the 3.5.19 CWM flashable zip you made and it worked great! As soon as i rebooted clear the data and amazing. I cant thank you enough! Thank you
If we wanted to do it our selfs, could we extract your zip and take the files? Just wandering for future references.
Just wondering what dpi are you guys using? I tried toying with dpi values on atrix, wanted to get a reference of what the range to look for the sweet spot on the skyrocket
Also i just tried flashing and could not even make it to the boot animation. I'm running the sky ice off the latest leak.
Admittedly i wasn't sure if i was to change the DPI first, reboot, and the flash, or flash clear data then change DPI. I'm back to a nandroid backup, if someone could shed light on this it would be of great help.

Thank you

I think, at least I found, when doing the math that the native DPI of the phone should be 207.32 and CM9/AOKP tends not to like DPI being set on an odd number, so 208 is what I have settled on. Although, as Voiid mentions he is running 180 and elitrix mentions 200, just find something that works for you!
As for your issue, I haven't been able to replicate it on my phone. You didn't clear the cache/d-cache in CWM after install did you? I have heard there are times when ICS has issues after doing so... if you did that it could be your problem. As for the proper way to do things, well, I have flashed this at many different times with different roms. I recommend clearing data in apps manager after the flash though, that way it has to resend the DPI information mimicking a first boot or launch of the Google Play store. Try downloading the files them selves, extracting them and manually copying them into the /system/apps folder in something like root explorer. Don't forget to change permissions to rw-r-r.
Voiid - I have uploaded the files in non-cwm flashable format so you can just have the modded files and the link is in the OP. However, for future reference, yes you can just extract the files from the app folder in the CWM zip and use them moving forward as updates come along.
Thanks for the reply Plague. The problem i am having seems to be with dpi modder app. I tried changing the dpi to 200, 180 and 210 and all of them sent me into a bootloop (not actually sure if it was a bootloop because the phone never got passed the samsung logo, i'm assuming it was still on). Either way i resolved the issue by using rom toolbox and changing the dpi to 200. Then i flashed the modded play store and its working great. Thank fully i am crazy about having nandroid backups so i didn't loose anything.

Yeah I had this issue too! Changing the dpi with LCD Modder Pro caused my phone to not boot too. I am not sure why though some apps that change dpi do that on this phone. On my old phone, the HTC aria, LCD modder worked. So idk. I just use root explorer and go to /system/ open build.prop as a text (make sure the folder is writeable) and change the dpi from within that my self. The line says
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
Its like in the center of the file.
You can change that number to whatever just make sure its a feasible number.
And then save it and reboot.
But you said rom tool box works so thanks for the heads up!

(just want to start by saying that these work on my tmobile note 3, and I've used roms such as magma, phonesis, etc. Basically 6.0.1 TouchWiz roms)
So I made two zips here. One Is full of apps I pulled from my system/apps, and the other I pulled from priv/apps. Basically as the roms age and rarely get updates (our phone is kinda old in this tech world), our apps don't get updates either. So I've spent some time pulling apps from various bits and pieces, in search for the newest ones that are ported, and will work for our phone. Feel free to share if you know of newer versions of these. I'm always looking. And if you're looking for the best root explorer to install stuff, search mixplorer.

Just want to add, as a precaution, make sure you do a nandroid backup before trying these, and I usually back up any apps I'm replacing, just in case they don't work and I have to throw the old one back in the mix.
Not newest versions of apps...
Checked zip's, very old apps, there are more never versions. Let's example, Samsung Clock 6.5.93.
And many-many more apps...

Really?? Please point me in some kind of direction. I searched like an idiot forever, an these are all i can come up with. I mean, I'm not asking to give me a thousand links, but is there one thread that posts them? Or a newer rom that I'm not seeing? I'll delete my post if thats the case. Or update it. Or set it on fire.

I tried installing the clock app, and got a parsing error. Is that app made For 7.1.1 or 6.0.1, because im only interested In marshmallow apps. Or is there a way to get around the app being for nougat?
you better off downloading mm roms, extracting apk with all extra files (folders, libs, etc) than making a flashable zip with it to set up the right permissions, etc.
or
flash the rom you want to get the apks from and install titanium backup, press the check mark located on top right, scroll down to create "update.zip" check the apps you want. this will create a flashable zip to restore the apps with all the permissions and folders done right. so just go back to the rom you had (must be touchwiz) go to recovery and flash the update.zip
