Anyone come from Note 4? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

So I still love my note 4 but it appears the s6 has root. I had no idea. So I was thinking of coming over from my note 4. Anyone make this move? What do you think.
Also I see there are Roms, how is this possible with just root but still locked bootloader.

I came over from a note 4, happier personally being able to have root again. Love the fingerprint reader on the s6, but as for the roms. Once you are rooted you can use flashfire to flash zips, this method doesn't trip knox either.

Hows battery life compared to the Note 4? That's one of my main concerns. Early reports was that it was pretty rough. Not sure if it's still the case though.

After rooting and installing Clean ROM I get way better battery life then my note 4.

What about stock though? I don't want to HAVE to root and install a custom rom to get better battery life. But it's nice being an option.

Stock battery wasn't the best for me, I always have wifi, HD calling, Bluetooth and gps (high accuracy) all on.

Just rooted

Just rooted using the root 66 method. Worked great. Debloated a little bit but wanna try a custom Rom. I've read but can't seem to grasp how to flash roms yet. Can anyone offer some tips? Do you need adb or can you flash wherever ?

Read the instructions on the rom you are flashing. Most times you use Clockworkmod Recovery i don't know if you go to clockworkmod with 3 button combo on galaxy S3 but yeah

If you want a kernel you have to use certain recoveries. So you can use kexec. There's more on that in original development.

Get ez-recovery, makes flashing different recoveries super easy. After flashing rom and setting up, go back to recovery and flash the kernal. That's what I did on synergy and imo's kernal. Beans v5 flashes it all at once. So far both run great with very good battery life.

Yup. You should give imo's kernal a shot, works great. Its a 2 step on synergy, but still no problem. Just passed my rezound down to the wife. And of course as soon as I did, seems like new roms started crawling out of the woodwork. I put viper res on it, now she wont let me try out any of the others, no fun.

If you flash any CM10 based ROM's you will have to do some extra steps. IMO you should just start off with Touch Wiz based ROMS so all you need to do is flash from your SD once and reboot.
This is a better place to talk about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709There is also LOTS of "HOW TO" stuff there that should get you going.

Are you guys rooted or not? I'm tempted just to go back to untouched stock, as there are still issues here and there with rooted/custom 4.3. The only thing that would bug me would not be not being able to remove bloat. I had tried flashing a custom 4.3 ROM which had the data screen off bug, so then tried going back to 4.2.2 but got a bootloop. Flashed rooted 4.2.2 MGA via Odin and tried flashing custom 4.2.2 again but still got bootloops. So currently on rooted stock 4.2.2 which is working perfectly, so I suppose I should really just sit tight for now.
I've got intelliring installed. Just updated and now I'm having talk back issues again while using stock internet app. Seems fine in chrome.
Any ideas how I can stop it?

I'm running totally stock everything. I think the bloat is all part of having a samsung device. Nexus devices are so plain jayne in comparison, I came from a Nexus 4. I wouldn't get too hung up on it to be honest. I think the S4 is a real solid performing device with stock 4.3.

I'm totally stock too, have been since the most recent 4.2.2 update (since it got secure by knox). Before that I ran djemby's stock rooted ROMs to allow tinkering, but I couldn't be bothered with the flash counter/knox fuse etc. risk of flashing custom ROMs, so I just went stock while I still could.
As for bloat - I can live with it. some of it I actually use, some of it I never touch, but it's on there and its not doing any harm.
4.3 is nice and smooth, my phone is functional. I just have to live without the tinkering - it was minimal but I liked to have the choice... (I only added CRT off, symbols on keyboard, and one or two other bits anyway).

Cheers, I'm in two minds at the moment. I agree that it is a great device and enjoy having the extra features (would just like option to remove some of the apps). To be honest Im not looking to constantly flash a lot of different ROMs, happy with stock if its smooth and stable. I've got a Nexus 7 as well, so it satisfies my 'having the latest update' fix! The rooted apps I would miss would be adaway, multi window manager, root explorer option on file explorer and titanium backup (not much use for this anyway if I'm not flashing). Will think about it a bit more..
Samsung wallet isnt working

Go back to 4.2 or MF1?

So 4.3 drains the crap out of my battery. I only get 3G in areas I use to get 4GLTE. It won't stay connected to wifi. My wifi home is comcast blast! and it's always disconnecting from it and says it's unstable.
My phone seems to be a slower too.
Of course I know the reason for these hassles is because the update, since my phone didn't do this before.
Rollback or downgrade to the last version possible?

Not possible.
You can root though, and disable system apps that could be causing you problems.
I'd download wakelock detector or better battery stats and look for wakelocks. Sometimes disable a few rogue apps could solve some problems.

That's usually from bad installation procedures and not wiping correctly.
Safestrap is a modified twrp recovery that allows you to load custom roms. You can load any 4.3 touchwiz rom in the development section with it. You shouldn't have those rebooting issues you did before, and it sounds like pretty much everything will run better for you then the stock rom you have now.

No, Safestrap makes slots for different roms. Your original rom remains untouched.
You're going to have to read up on it and understand what you're doing. Put a fair amount of research into it, it's not terribly difficult but it is a different process.

If you need some motivations to root, here are some good things to read about
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2677350
if you have to ask if you should root your nexus 5, then you probably dont need root. if you needed root, you would never ask if you should root.
To root or not to root, that is the question.
But seriously, if you need to ask if you should root or not, you probably don't need it.
I root for many reasons, chiefly among them, for AdAway.
Bla bla, hurts developers, bla bla. I have purchased every single app on my phone that has a paid version. I purchase those donate keys even when there is no ad-based reason to do so. If the app has an IAP-remove-ads option, I will take it.
I'll be honest, I don't even feel bad about ad blocking apps that don't give me an avenue to remove ads. Give me a legit way out, and I will take it every single time. But if you force ads on me and give me no way to remove them? Blocked.
Or websites. Maybe if the ads weren't so obnoxious, I wouldn't feel a need to block them.
Of course, u should root if u use android phone. Root help user control the device better.

Rooting is easy, but when you fiddle around with system partition and NOT KNOW what you're doing, that's a problem. Thats why I said if you need root, you probably won't be asking this question. If you need to ask if you need root, you don't .
Might also be worth checking if some apps you use don't work when rooted. This is why I don't bother any more as some live TV apps I use can detect root and not function (Sky Go being the main culprit)
if it is not rooted, it is not a nexus for me
Worth it for Xposed Framework. But read before you root!

I used to run inverted on my S3 all the time because of the battery saving it provided for the amoled display. Since this is a super lcd display, that's a none issue, and I'm trying to run everything white just because I can.
I'm still running stock because it's so quick. On my S3, stock touchwiz was so slow and buggy I had no choice but to install a new rom.
However, there are many more roms available in the international m8 forum correct? Is there a way to tell if they'll work with our phone? Or do they have to say it's specifically compatible with the Verizon variant? The last thing I want to do is flash something and have it missing the CDMA band needed to get data. Also would super CID basically allow flashing of any rom we wanted.

They'll say if they work for Verizon or not. SuperCID would allow you to flash any carrier Rom, but I doubt you would get data or anything, maybe 1x...that's more for like if you want to take your phone to t-mobile then you would be able to flash a tmobile Rom and be good to go (whether you get LTE or not on tmobile is a diff story).

Yup, stock rooted. Love it. I don't usually flash too often anyway. Just want something as stable and bug free as possible. So I'm thinking I'll probably end up running bonestock or cleanrom. I'm also extremely intrigued by the gpe rom.
I'll start flashing soon, but I generally don't like flashing too often.

Are you on the old firmware or radios still? (Which I really hope you say yes as if so you can help out a lot of people by doing me a favor)?.....or have you updated to the new firmware 1.55.....myself I hate pretty much all google apps besides chrome an I don't really care for that just my backup browser so the gpe ROM is very well put together by @digitalhigh . I have flashed it just to see how it ran but google everything an no blinkfeed is a total bust for me..

Plus I ran bonestock for a while at 1st. I have tried all Roms an that is the best stock ROM he has lots of things enabled VZW hides. Only thing he is missing is eps mode but that is so easy to add via XML ...all you need to do its add another line for a quick setting tile like the rest of them an use value 30. Reboot an then your bone stock will have everything you need plus on the house teathering.

Nope, I don't have the original firmware.
I think my sister also updated hers.
Andy has done fantastic work on his roms since his S3 days. He does a great job adding in hidden features and keeping the rom as stock as possible. Really hope he continues developing for this device.

No a lot of people r asking in my firmware/radios thread I started are asking for old radios cause they were stronger for them. With a pull from a phone that still has this we can make a flashable old radios. An some else wants the old firmware to create another safety net for everyone.

Got it, I think a friend of mine is upgrading soon, if he gets an m8 and it isn't updated out of the box I can pull it from that.
