Hi everyone , i read in miui web site that windows 10 will available for mi4 , but any news for porting the rom ?
Here find the video for testing in the mi4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTTTFV38G_Q
Nope. Xiaomi is partnering with Microsoft, because of that, Mi phones (mostly newer generations one such as the Mi4) will be getting the Windows 10 builds.
But no, Nexus won't get it (maybe, we don't know this yet). Because Windows is closed source (unlinke Ubuntu Touch or Firefox OS) and it doesn't rely on any Android's component to do stuff.
I think it would be a hardware based windows 10 for mi phone.
So no nexus.
I don't discard W10 on Nexus. MS is just testing waters on a ROM for Android phones. Part of their new strategy is to make windows available in as much devices as possible. If it goes well with the Mi4, that is, a relevant percentage of Mi4 users install it, they might want to replicate with other phones and N5 is a good candidate. W10 Mobile is just beta and it might take a while.

Windows Mobile 6
WCDMA and GSM
and it starts at $195?
is this some kind of fantasy?
It is real, but it is far from $195, closer to $800. According to them it is scheduled to come out in December but you won't see it until next year.
May i remind you that i've never heard of Meizu before, its a newcomer, expect bugs and even shortcuts...

Meizu has been making MP3 players ( http://en.meizu.com/ ) for 4 years, but that's true: they hasn't made any Windows CE based device ever, until now.
I supose this Phone has Windows CE 6.0 Core, and own GUI so it can be uncompatible with Windows Mobile 6 stuff (CE 5.2)
They are offering another Iphone clone for 169 Euros in the NL. The CECT Clone. So the pricing could be correct.
This will run probably CE 5.2 so we can take all the goodies we have to this phone and from this phone!

Yes, As I read it doesn't run WM6 but Windows CE 6.0 under a special miniOne GUI so it can't run conventional Pocket PC apps. Unless the miniOne GUI only an app which runs on WM6 but I haven't read about this anywhere, so it isn't likely.
It can run most PPC apps, that's real.
Yeah, multitouch and USB Host / Client
now that's what i call an iPhone killer :O
the functions / ui of the apple phone + the things i love about wm (great community, so much programs, etc.)
I just stopped into a Meizu store today (I live in china) and saw this phone and heard of it for the first time. It looks very cool though. The price is around $350 US and has 8GB and is multi-touch. I think I want one
it definitely looks as the best PMP player and phone together.
if only it could run WM apps, it would rock..
Apps on Meizu
I got my hands on one of these devices and it is pretty slick. There are still lots of bugs in the os, but new versions are still being put out there. It sucks that it does not run WM apps. I have found 2 that work. Coreplayer and TCPMP run well on it, but really are not needed because the integrated player works well.
I am hoping someone will develop a Windows Mobile rom that will run on this device. It would really rock.
i really want this phone. It may not be an HTC phone but Meizu has some big potential.

Hello...
I may be treading in dangerous waters, here, but bear with me.
There are so many snapdragon android phones on the market (especially cdma networks), yet there aren't many snapdragon windows phones on the market (especially cdma networks). With windows phone 7 being released, no one will be making new 6.x phones.
I know android can be dual-booted on a windows phone, but can windows mobile be installed on an android phone? I'm referring to a native version (not requiring android to be running). With so many people not liking windows phone 7, it would seem like a very useful market.
JJ
Is there any possibility of dual-booting IOS and and WP7 on an iPhone 4? I'm really interested in playing the Xbox Live games on my iPhone. So that's my main goal. If there is another way to do this, I would be interested in the info. Thanks!
Most likely not. Android can be ported to the iPhone because it is open source whereas windows phone 7 os is very much closed source.
Also, windows phone has special hardware requirements and, if im not mistaken, the Iphone 4 does NOT use the same qualcomm chipset as windows phone.
You would also have issues with your hi-res screen becasue windows phone only supports WVGA at the moment.
So it is probably not possible,
Sorry.
Without any source it won't be possible at all. That's why people have been successful in porting Android to the iPhone series.
Thanks. I figured that there was probably a reason why it hadn't been done yet. I appreciate the info!
Why dont ya just get a windows phone?
Ported OS to another phone will never work as smoothly as a real device dedicated for the job.
If you seen android running on the iPhone it was never really that usable. Even when i had the HD2 Android was still buggy and laggy.
May later be
moved to Q&A
There is OS7, but it is a visual port only and still works just like iOS under the hood. I used it for a while on my iPhone 4.
Hey everyone. I was thinking about this today.
I personally see the mobile phone/ tablet market going the PC route. you can install any operating system providing its compatable with the CPU and the hardware can run it.
That got me thinking. lets say for a minute Microsoft sold a copy of Windows phone O/S and you flashed it via Odin or some other way.
What would be the limiting factors? is it possible?
Its not only about the CPU, What about everything? you will break many stuff.
it would be a good idea to have windows 8.1 in note 3 if the windows phone os gets updated !
It would be a much better idea to buy a Lumia if you want WP 8.1......
1. Lol
2. Not gonna happen. Ever
3. You can't just install an OS like you would on a PC. Windows is windows, closed source, no device binaries for the hardware.

Dont even want Win8 on my pc, let alone on my phone.
Android is so much better, than all the others. So NO i'll fight this idea, with all my power (but that ain't much). :silly:
If it were a linux distro you were talkin about i'd say yes...
I think by the way samsung drive there TouchWiz android we will be like windows even Google courage people to root and miss with it's s branded phone's and nexus branch getting Ubuntu phone and maybe Firefox os I think In the future we will buy just the hardware and load whatever os you wish like DOS shipped laptop's
And regarding hardware I think even the Nokia lumia don't have hardware like our SGN3 so why not
In the end we will get all open source to drive the tech

Why would you want windows phone? Windows is good as a PC OS, but not as a phone OS.

In theory It would work...
Older versions supported ARM32 pretty well and since Linux is already working It would not be harder to port Android to The surface RT and 2.
The problem is that these devices are almost 10 years old and few people care about them anymore.
Even with Android installed running apps with 2gb of very aged memory would prove to be a pretty bad experience...

Eh, I've run worse. I have a moto E LTE running android 9 (RR Custom Rom based on a GO version of android) and it runs fine (1gb of ram and a worse cpu than the RT) sure it would be nice to have more ram but it works.

Yes, I understand your point. But the fact is that it had Android to start with, with the surface RT you have to use loopholes and bugs to get Linux working in a inefficient way and even the currently working(sort of ) Raspbian based Linux system has a bunch of bugs and missing drivers etc. Power control lacks behind Windows RT (mentiond here:https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/porting-chromium-to-windows-rt.2095686/post-87719273. The sad fact that this device is already 10years old means that it is unlikely people would pay attention to it and use it to develop Android, and even with Android installed the experience would be very limited due to the ram. support would be almost non-existent similar to what happened to the windows phones that got unofficial CM versions. Developers are already moving away from ARM32 to newer ARM64 and a few years later most apps would have a minimum api equivalent to android 6.
There is still a silver lining though. RT devices are dirt cheap since they are almost or practically useless now and Android still has excellent backward compatibility. Anyone who really has interest and the time could pick up the pieces of the Linux project and move on with doing it, but it still would not be easy.
Maybe a crowdfunding project could give devs some incentive?
But for now you could try to run a vm in linux or simply run their linux equivalents. Chromium, firefox, WPS office etc. Raspbian is compatible wih the snap store too, so you could use it just like ubuntu.
I am not trying to pour cold water on your idea, and I really look forward to this project taking off. However, there ultimately is a reason why Windows RT and their RT devices failed to take off.
working with the progress made with opensurface-rt, we managed to get android 7.0 booting on the surface RT using the 3.4 kernel, got wifi working, but minor gpu bugs that make it an unstable setup. had a play about with 4.4 and 5.1 too. android 7.1.1 and above have critical gpu bugs which make it completely unusable. and probably unfixable. development into getting other devices such as sound, camera, bluetooth etc has yet to be done. so far we have, screen, touch screen, type/touch keyboard, 2d/3d gpu working. recorded a quick video of it running
maybe it would be possible to get all things sorted but it's quite the task.

Wow! Nice work! Would be interested to know the team behind this marvelous project. (since you mentioned 'we')
Also probably should embed the boot screen with your team's name...
