Hello
I want to share with you my brand new Pseudo-Stereo tweak/mod for our i9505 (yeah, another "Stereo Surround Sound" mod)
It's a flashable zip for TWRP/CWM
Briefly, it uses both speakers (front and rear) for media playback in the most equilibrated way, providing highest levels without clipping (so much) at maximum volume.
To achieve this, i have fine adjusted and added some values into one system file related to audio that is present in CM12, CM12.1, and TW LOLLIPOP.
It will only work on Snapdragon 600 based S4, cause Exynos 5410 based S4 (I9500) has a different audio chip.
I have only tested on CM12/12.1, if you like to try on TW lollipop, make a backup of your "/system/etc/snd_soc_msm/snd_soc_msm_2x_Fusion3" file, anyway, it won't hurt, but i'ts better to be safe.
It's compatible with viper4android (recommended) and faux audio.
The zip also installs renamed stock CM12/12.1 file in the same folder.
(If you manually replace the original file, you must give it 0644 permissions or your system won't boot.)
I hope you enjoy it!
.

@*Exynos* it should only work on snapdragon 600 cause as i know, the file that routes audio on the exynos based is "/system/etc/mixer_paths.xml"
if you cand send me that original file, possibly i can modify it to work.

if you (or anybody) can, send me a stock touchwiz lollipop 9500 "/system/etc/mixer_paths.xml" file i will appreciate it. i'm some confused about this xml structure.
it's completely different from i9505 cause different hardware, ain i haven't a system to test it so, the mod remains only for i9505.
anyway, thanks

It does not work on stock i9505 TW lollipop. I flashed it but there is no sound from the front speaker.

AllShareCast/ScreenMirror fix for custom ROMs (I9500, I9505, I9506, E330, N9005)

This fix is for those who like to use AllShareCast/ScreenMirrorwhile on custom ROM (i.e. custom flag is set).
Disclamer: You apply the fix at your own risk. I'm not responsible for any software or hardware damage it can lead. The only thing i can assure is that i've tested fix on my I9500 and I9506 devices and they work fine.
Disclamer 2: I don't provide any technical support for my fixes through PM. So, please don't write PM about porting it to other ROM versions or other devices. I share what i'm doing for myself and have no intention to port it to devices i don't have.
This fix is not really fixes the problem, but turns off HDCP protection. So, the video signal will go to HDMI in clear(unprotected) form. As a side effect, this fix also will be useful for those, who has non-HDCP TV and thus cannot use Screen Mirror function.
I've made versions for 3 different SoCs, thus it should be compatible with almost full range of Samsung top devices:
Exynos 5410 for GT-I9500 Android 4.3 ROM MJ8
Snapdragon 600 for GT-I9505 Android 4.3 ROM MK8
Snapdragon 800 for GT-I9506(SHV-E330S/K/T) Android 4.3 ML5, SM-N9005 (and other SD800 versions of Note 3)
To install the fix, your device should be rooted!
You need to use file explorer which is able to write to /system partition. I recommend to use Root Explorer.
1) Open /system partition with write access ("mount R/W" button in Root Explorer)
2) Unpack following archive to specified folder:
for Android v4.3:
for Exynos 5410: unpack hdcpoff_5410.zip to /system/lib
for Snapdragon 600: unpack hdcpoff_sd600.zip to /system/lib
for Snapdragon 800: unpack hdcpoff_sd800.zip to /system/vendor/lib
for Android v4.4.2:
for Exynos 5410: unpack hdcpoff_5410_4.4.2.zip to /system/lib
for Snapdragon 600: unpack hdcpoff_sd600_4.4.2.zip to /system/lib
for Snapdragon 800: unpack hdcpoff_sd800_4.4.2.zip to /system/lib (not really required. HDCP should work fine on custom ROMS 4.4.2)
3) reboot your device.
That's all!
I didn't test my fix neither on I9505 nor N9005, but in theory it should work.
Update (30/Aug/2014):
I've added Android 4.4.2 HDCP OFF version for I9500 (I9500XXUGNG3), for I9505 (I9505XXUGNG8). It should work on any 4.4.2 ROM.
About Snapdragon 800 version (i9506, E330S, Note 3 Qualcomm version): it's funny, but my E330S (with old 4.2.2 bootloader and I9506 4.4.2 system) works without any fix. It uses HDCP although my kernel and system are custom with a lot of bloatware (including KNOX) removed. It works with both Samsung AllShareCast and Netgear PTV3000.
I've uploaded patched lib for SD800 (I9506XXUCNG3) for any case (unpack to /system/lib).
Update 2:
added N9005 4.4.2 version. You can try it on other N900x models as well (SD800 only!).
For Galaxy S5 (SM-G900 not sure Exynos or Qualcomm) look here (not tested by me)
For generic Exynos solution look here (not tested by me)
P.S.: If you are skilled enough, then you can port this fix to other version of ROM. Quick hint: Disassemble my fix and original file in IDA Pro, then compare listing to find the difference. And then, using some keywords near modified part, you can locate required places in the new version.
Generally, the versions I provide should work in any ROM within the same Android version.
Thank you

I've tracked down most of the original files you patched and I'll post them in a sec.
@JoshBeach file below contains the original which you can use to compare
And here's a rough guide on how to get it done: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48418925
The original libs that match the patched libs from the OP are attached to this post for comparison and porting purposes
Will update when I track down the snapdragon 600 lib

[APP PORT] CM DSP for Galaxy S4

I just got the I9506 and coming from a CM powered phone one of the things I missed was the DSP Manager app. So, I decided to port it to the S4. All you have to do is to copy the files in the zip to their proper locations in the phone with a rooted file manager and set the permissions to RW-R-R
Sorry, it is NOT a flashable zip as I do not have a custom ROM installed to test it, you'll have to move the files manually.
If you encounter any problems let me know.
I STRONGLY SUGGEST to back up the files before replacing them with the new ones....
This has been tested and working on a I9506 with stock ROM (4.3), but should work on other 4.3 ROMS and maybe also on 4.2 or 4.4. Test and let me know.
* If your phone dies doing this I'm not responsible
** I just edited some config files, the REAL WORK is from CM team.
*** This has been done for my personal use, I'm not looking for fame and/or glory, just sharing in case it is useful to anybody else
Have you tried Viper4Android? A lot more features than the standard DSP application.

Is an app that adds a number of sound effects and let's you set specific sound EQ values depending on the output (Headset, Loudspeaker, Bluetooth). If you have a custom recovery do a nandroid and test it... I think it should work

Fair enough, what you're comfortable with is the most important thing. But just to point out that it's very similar in terms of UI it just has a lot of additional options for tweaking the sound. I strongly suggest you try it and see if you like it. You can certainly get a better sound out of it than a plain DSP app. It's absolutely essential for anyone who uses their phone as a music player in my view.
Works fine on i9500. Not works on stock music app. thank you

Also if you could add instructions for creating the Directory for the first time cause when you first install V4A

will not be in your file managers.
Upon installing and setting up V4A we need to simply save the stock profile and then the Profile directory will be made

Due to what I believe has been deemed an issue with the One M8 amplifier drivers since CM11, all audio on CM11/CM12 based roms are VERY loud which leads to tons of distortion. As a guy who really appreciates music and sound quality, I haven't been able to stick with a CM rom for longer than a day without being annoyed by it. There are some settings that are out here that are supposed to get rid of the issue when using V4A for lollipop. I tried it one and still wasn't satisfied... However, with all these new CM12 based roms coming out, I kind of want to give it another try. Maybe some of the presets in this thread could help, but i have not tried and nobody here seems to know either :good:
hope that helps.

Installation should be as simple as Extracting the file then Grabbing and moving the entire "Improved Speakers" folder into Vipers4android's "profile" folder. And Yes The files or .xml files That's what viper4android saved them as So that is what I uploaded them as why would they be .prf???

What ROM are you using? Maybe the main mixer paths files have another name and you only need to rename it.
This is only for Stock Android ROMS (AOSP)
Please take a screenshot on your ETC folder in the mixer_paths part and upload it so i can see it.

The answer is "i dont know". I did not test, but i think it will not work because the file is from 9.0 system and 10.0 is quite different, you can test it but im sure you will get bugs in some other functions (if it works). Or maybe not. Please test and report if you can.
The mod is nice, but when you plug in the headset, there is a sound from the handset.

Use viperforfx best working on all roms with miui 12 as well as android 10. U can enjoy good quality sound in both speaker as well as earphone.

For everyone, please be aware that there are 2 similar paths at least in my android 10 aosp... The one working for me is root>vendor>etc
Since there is another path root>system>vendor>etc

already put 90 for earpiece volume, max is 95. i dont want to take risk. u can try change the value to 95 if u want.
instruction
1. open the mixer file with code editor/text editor
2. use 'Find..' and type in 'earpiece'
3. change the value from 90 to 95
4. save it, reboot.
