Hi,
I've read a bit about the S6 having RAM issues, but I'm not sure, if that's the reason for my trouble.
When going back to the homescreen after having used an app (doesn't really matter which app), the phone lags a bit and after a second or two the homescreen comes up empty as it takes a couple of seconds for it to reload the icons and one widget that I use..
If I clear all my apps from the recent list, I can go maybe half an hour to an hour before it starts doing it again. It clearly speeds up right after I've done that.
I looks like my RAM usage varies quite quickly between 58% and 91%. Sometimes it shows that Google Play Services uses almost 600 MB as does Snapchat(!) and my browser (even though only one tab is open).
Do I need to return my phone or is this only a software problem? Does using another launcher even help anything here?
Hope you guys can help me!
Thanks in advance!
I'd use smart manager to clear all, and then clear data in application settings for Touchwiz home (This might lose all your home pages/icons/widget etc not sure. I'd then reboot the phone.
If it's still doing it after that, try Nova launcher or similar. I get not lag but the odd tiny redraw every now and again.
Ok, thanks for the tip.
I've gone over to using Google Now Launcher for a bit, and it seems to behave much better and more smooth. Unfortunately I can't use the stock clock/weather widget outside the TW Launcher.
I really hope Samsung addresses this in the next update. I was under the impression that this should have been fixed in the present release.

Yeah that's a real pain. I use HD widgets while waiting on Samsung launcher to be improved. You have to pay but it's pretty good with good weather.

Yeah, actually used HD widgets as well on the Google Launcher.
For info, I exchanged my device for a new one due to the home button being loose and making the clicking noise. My new device seems not to have the memory problem like my original device, or at least far from as much/often. So must have been faulty somehow. I have exactly the same apps installed...

Prior to purchasing my Captivate I was concerned about the lag I keep hearing about. After playing with the phone for a couple days I have been assured it is not a hardware problem. The only way I am able to get the phone to lag or slow is when there are Samsung Widgets loaded. If you remove all the widgets provided by Samsung the phone is as smooth as butter. I have several market apps/widgets running and I can not get it to stutter. I even have an older version of Fancy Widget on the home screen.
If some other people could double check this and see if they get the same result it would be appreciated. If this is the case then, the fact that the phone comes crammed with AT&T and Samsung software and cut down android widgets is just appalling.
I'm using LauncherPro with the stock Samsung widgets removed (obviously), Beautiful Home widget, and a live wallpaper. This device as fast as heck with those 3 things.

Did you uninstall the samsung widgets or just removed them from the home screen?
I have uninstalled the AT&T apps but was unsure about ditching the Samsung apps as I was concerned that they may be required for some function of the phone...

im running launcherpro + fancy widget. No samsung widgets (im not even sure how you run them without touchwiz) but mine runs smooth as butter. My only lag experience is when i open up the gallery because it is somehow connected to my picasa account and there is a slight lag when connecting.
same thing here... how can you disconnect picasa so it doesnt show your album uploaded?
Come to think of it, the very first thing I did was erase all the junk on the homescreen and install my own stuff. And I've never had any slowdown problems. Except when I did install the samsung widget that added the rolodex buddy thing. It would occasionally stutter when swiping over that homescreen page. I uninstalled it. Maybe that's the problem everyone is having.
I'm using Touchwiz without the default widgets and have experienced no lag.

Hey everyone, i did some extensive searching in this general section and didnt see my specific problem, so if theres a thread open on it already, please (kindly) point me to it.
I'm having an interesting problem where sometimes, some of my widgets are not displaying properly. So far its been Beautiful Widgets Home, Arti's Contact widget (4x4), and the AudioGuru profile widget that have done it.
PowerControl, TaskPanel X, and BatteryLife have always been fine, and shortcuts have been fine. I attached some pics of Beautiful home and audio guru. For Beautiful Widgets Home, it should be quite obvious, for AudioGuru those buttons are half the size they should be.
I cant pinpoint when it happens, although the last time it did, it was after i closed the stock browser.
Lastly, rebooting the phone fixes it, trashing the widgets and re-adding them fixes it, and connecting to my laptop via usb and mounting the sd-card fixes it.
I'd like to know whats causing it. Has anyone else experienced this bug with any of their widgets?
safe to say it's a bug with the launcher, this sometimes happens on custom launchers and it's a quick fix by just restarting your custom launcher.
usually it happens when the phone tries to rotate and then gets confused so the widgets get all screwed up. Shouldn't happen that often though.
i have it happen on LP everyonce and a while if i'm in a landscape game and then go back to my portrait homescreen, but i'd say 95% of the time they fix themselves.
Well I appreciate the insight but I'm not on a custom launcher which is sorta why it bothers me a bit more.

so anyone else have anything they could contribute to my issue?
chances are its something with the app/widget that doesnt know what the hell to do in Gbread

you might be right but I'm not so sure its gbread per say. as an update, since my last post, it was doing it at random times. i could not reproduce the issue intentionally but it happened one to two times a day.
I started toying with LauncherPro yesterday and was impressed so earlier this morning I bought Launcher Pro Plus. it hasnt happened once while using it. So I've recreated every screen i had on the stock launcher in LauncherPro Plus (and then some) with no issues.
The phone has only been release less than a month. I think that devs are still getting to grips or updating existing apps to be compatible with GB.
i find it hard to believe that widgets running on the stock launcher within gingerbread might mess up due to the dev needing to change the code to be gb compatible yet those same ones running within launcherpro are just fine. It has to be something specific to the launcher itself and not gb the os and third party. although i haven't spent any time testing just the widgets that come out of the box to see if its 3rd party only that's having the problem
Is there a quick way to make them refresh after a new app is installed?
OK. They finally updated after about 20 min. Which is annoyingly long time to wait right after getting a new app. I would still like to know if I can force them to refresh though.
You have to tell us specifically which widgets are you using and what apps have you installed to interact with them.
As far as I know widgets are real time unless the launcher is caching the screens. So if its not the launcher it may be that the apps you installed have not gathered enough data yet for the widget to display it.

I also have this problem, and I've just resorted to rebooting my phone. Not ideal, but seems to be the quickest way to update the list.
Just to clarify I meant the ICS app drawer widget selector thing is not refreshing. Not horrible but kind of annoying to have to reboot or wait forever.
Force close the launcher under settings --> applications. When the launcher refreshes you should be good to go.

This isnt a new problem but something carried over from ICS. However given the immense performance improvements throughout the system this one is just surprising.
The home screen navigation on the stock launcher is just blocky. Every now and then I have to swipe my thumb twice or thrice to get to the next homescreen. There is no lag or stutter it's just that the phone doesnt recognise my swipe as a significant one so doesnt move to the next screen.
Now the thing is that this is not an issue at all with APEX launcher which just doesnt make sense to me how come a third party launcher is faster than stock launcher? Have you guys felt this problem?
The stock launcher has a 'bounce-back' effect. Which makes it look blocky. At least that's what I noticed.
Apex has an option to enable/disable that. But that doesn't mean it's faster or slower, it just looks that way.
And actually most 3rd party launchers are supposed to be faster, or better in some aspects or else we wouldn't install them.

Ya I figured it is some "effect" instead of an inherent performance problem. Too bad there is no way to disable it without changing launcher and also the galaxy nexus didnt seem to have this issue or effect whatever it is.
Anyone using chameleon launcher on their infinity?
Looks like another great launcher for tablets...
http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/chameleon-launcher-1.0-google-play/
whats so great about it?
Tried it.
Uninstalled it.
I prefer Apex launcher. Chameleon has some nice ideas but it's still buggy and not ready for release imo. It costs $10 too which is a mistake.
Basically, the main feature is that you can set it up so that your default "home" screen automatically changes depending on where you are, what time it is, etc... But really, other than that, I'm not so sure what people (including myself - I'm a "backer") were so excited about. Besides being able to set your default home screen depending on certain conditions, it really doesn't add much to the launcher experience...
I personally can't remember why it was supposed to be so great!
I un-installed it as well, mainly because you can only use widgets provided by the app - you lose access to all standard Android widgets, which makes it unusable in my opinion.
That being said, it would be nice if Nova, Apex, etc added the ability to automatically change your home screen depending on certain conditions - I think that is a cool feature...

I am a backer, too. I am disappointed, too.
Switching things like chameleon does is really nothing special. It is still just one screen. So, i can set my apex launcher screens to reflect what chameleon tries to do very easily. The only thing is that i have to swipe. To be honest, this is not exactly true either, cause almost everything can be done with Tasker.
So yeah. I still hope chameleon starts getting better, but it has to be real quick or all the interest is going to float away and another app will go down the drain like many others.
I backed it too... it costed 10$ . But after few days i uninstalled it. Lack of Widgets , very Slow , lack of user defined wallpapers etc .
They are still in Beta i guss and they are updating the app almost everyday . Hope they come up with more nich Widgets etc soon.
thanks all for the replies!!! was trying to see if it warranted the ten dollar price
like i use a different homescreen when im in my vehicle (media oriented),but right now i just swipe right to get to it
swipe left to go back to my regular homescreen
chameleon key feature is simply to "auto-swipe" ?
At first I was disappointed, 1.0 has changed my opinion its stable and looks amazing. I was the first to complain with the beta releases now with the widget api released things good get interesting. @Apex launcher pro on my tf700t.....too buggy

Kickstarter backer here and I'm a little disappointed now that they have issued Ver. 1.0. There's no calendar widget, you can only place so many apps in the dock, the dock is huge and not adjustable, no pre-built Android widgets so any thing you've already paid for is wasted, and it doesn't do news feed images very well.
But the biggest disapointment is the lack of a calendar widget! That should have been a fundamental basic widget from the start. It's not so it won't be my launcher of choice untill that get's fixed.

That's one key feature, but I would say the bigger draw is the aesthetic polish it brings. That's one of the reasons they won't let normal android widgets be used, as it clashes with the look of Chameleon. Give it time for more widgets to get made (especially with the API now available to developers) before deciding if it's a success or failure. IMO with 3 or 4 more of the widgets I need, I would easily use it as my day to day launcher.
whoah....cant use regular widgets? only widgets you can use are chameleon widgets?

Correct. If you care to learn html5 you can make your own Chameleon widgets, and in the future they will add the ability to use widgets other users create. Until then, you only have the official chameleon ones to choose from. No standard Android widgets are usable in Chameleon though.
I was super hyped about it so I backed it on KS. Then I tried it and uninstalled it... nuff said...

Chameleon will definitely get better with further releases and more widgets added.
Like someone before me said, for me too, the polished and beautiful design is an added value of this launcher, nothing else (at least currently).
Calendar, Google+ and Music widgets are coming in near future. Custom widgets from users are coming, too, eventually. (i am hoping for beter gmail, email widgets etc...which can easily be done by others, not necessarily by teknision).
But, as i said before, they will have to act quickly - hype is on, but as with anything else it can get cold very quickly, too.

Just found this I like the look of it but does it have bookmark and email widgets?
Another kickstarter backer here. I also uninstalled it. It supports my gmail and news. I don't use Twitter or Facebook so it's fairly useless to me. Maybe widgets that appeal more to me are yet to come but not using it now.
