Hi all, something went wrong while I was trying to fix my WiFi problems (not connected or after 5 minutes it lost internet connection but still connected at the AP)
So this is what I tried:
I replaced the files into the folder
system/etc/wifi
system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima with the ones taken from the CM11S but the wifi doesn't work (can't turn on or off, freeze on Activating WiFi)
Replaced also with the ones from the original system (extracted from system.img) but doesn't work again...
Also replaced from the ones founded into CM12.1 (extraced the system.new.dat) but nothing again...
The permissions (folder and files) were set like the system image said.. The owner is always root
But WiFi still not works.. Freezed on Activating WiFi and can't turn on or off the switcher...
I tried also the flash of a custom kernel (franco) but it doesn't worked..
How can I solve without a flash?
Thanks
(Sorry for bad english )
Isn't easier to flash just system? This won't wipe your data.

If I do it, will I lost my apps installed?
Edit: No, it doesn't
THAAAAAAAAAAAAAANKS A LOT from my GF and I cause we were going crazy
I guess you figured out that it does not

Hi,
My Captivate's running stock Froyo with the Overstock 1.1 kernel. I had the cognition kernel before, but in an attempt to solve this problem tried the overstock, with no luck. My phone is just not connecting to my WiFi network anymore... It started with the cognition, but after about a week of having it, not right away and still goes on with the Overstock. I have tried the solution presented in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034074
Also, no luck. I didn't actually find a conf file in /data/misc/wifi. I did however found a conf file at /data/wifi which I proceeded to erase and reboot, but of course, here I am.
Any suggestions as to what I can do and/or what could have caused the problem? The only thing I did recently that could have caused it is emptying the dalvik cache from the recovery mode to try a gps fix which also did not work (my GPS was fine in eclair, but sucks on froyo).
Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Right! So, it's working again! I tries connecting to another network, not the one from my house and it worked perfectly. Came back home and tried again and what do ypu know, it worked! Maybe that solution I tried before worked, but not right away, because I had even rebooted more than once with no luck. Cheers, xda!

This happens to me all the time. It's not the phone it's the router. But the only way I can fix it is by replacing the dhcpcd under system/bin via root explorer.
I have listed the file below. Basically when this happens it will keep scanning and then disconnect from my network. Other networks work fine. I just keep a back up of the original dhcpcd file on my sd card and replace with with the one below. Problem solved. Then switch the files back around. Like I said this is a problem when the router for some reason not the phone.
Heres where I found the solution @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907772
Excellent! Thanks! I'll keep the backup around!

I have T-Mobile HTC sensation 4G with S-OFF and 3.33 firmware.
I have tried whole bunch of different roms (ICS/JB Stock, MIUI, CM9-mods,CM10-mods and all popular here) and kernels on it and still never had WiFi working.
Usually it just says 'Turning WiFi on ...' but it never turns ON actually. Sometimes (without any visible cause) it turns suddenly ON and discovers networks (it happens really rare). Even in this rare moments the connection is unusable - it's simply dead.
What I've tried:
- all possible ROMs without any luck
- flashed different radios and firmwares
- upgraded HBOOT (to 1.27)
- WiFix
- used latest versions of 4EXT Recovery
- flashed kernels (boot.img) in fastboot
Nothing helped me.
So my question is, is there anything that I missed completely? I'd like to know some method to enable my WiFi and use it.
Try removing wifi_supplicant.conf from /data/misc/wifi/ (make a backup of it somewhere first) then reboot and check again

Hi!
Tried your method. No changes.
Here db.tt/jiUVNqIb (could not post link yet) is my logcat output near the moment of wifi turning on (switched into airplane mode, deleted conf file, switched back)

It was scary..
It couldn't run on Win7 machines, but finally ran on winxp. But there was a trouble it froze totally while flashing radio. I've waited more than hour without any progress. After it the phone became unusable. Fortunately after flashing recovery everything is fine again.
But still no WiFi...
Do you have any other ideas?
Hi bepcyc, I had the same problem as you on my Tmobile Sensation 4g. It seems to be working now. I decided to put this here in case it could help anyone else, I am not sure exactly which part fixed it so here is exactly what I did,
1. Restored stock using RUU according to this guide by kgs1992 - RUU Related Info
Note: I had to use a PC running windows 7 because the HTC drivers would not work with my windows 8 laptop, so adb did not recognize the device.
2. The wifi still was not working so I removed the back cover and raised the metal pins for the wifi connector a bit so it would make better contact with the antenna on the phone cover. The metal pins that I adjusted are the ones right above the camera when you remove the back cover.
I am not too sure if adjusting the pins solved the problem or if it was coincidental so I decided to let you know exactly what I did. Anyone having the same problem could maybe try adjusting the pins before running RUU to see if that fixes the problem.
I know how frustrating this was, I hope this helps anybody that has the same problem.
Just flashed synergy release 373 and also flashed the new modem and rpm from the latest leak. Wifi seemed to work in the beginning but after I put the phone into recovery and flash anything wifi breaks.
So far ive wiped my phone and reinstalled then reflashed emoji keyboard and the original Samsung boot logo and wifi does not work!
Toggle in notifications stays lit and if I try to turn it on in settings it goes to on and straight to off.

Boot loader unlocked? Just asking because that's was the cause of a lot of Wi-Fi issues before. I'm also running synergy but experiencing no Wi-Fi troubles
Yup bootloader has always been unlocked. Im not really concerned with using wifi cause I have unlimited but I just want to turn it off because it seems to be on in notification toggles

It must be something you're flashing after you've flashed synergy that is breaking Wi-Fi. You'll need to start over and flash things one at a time a check what is causing the problem. The rom itself didn't cause Wi-Fi problems. Something that obvious would've been reported by testers immediately

The only two things I am flashing are:
4.2 emoji keyboard
Original samsung boot logo
Ive flashed both of those on previous builds and different roms and ive never experienced loss of wifi.

Just pull one of them out and see if Wi-Fi works. If it doesn't, put it back and pull the other one instead.
Taking out the logo in /data/local only takes a second. The keyboard not so much.
You need to find out what's causing problems before you can determine why.
Unless something was made for a specific Rom, you can never know when it will break something.

could you tell me exactly how to pull out the boot animation* sorry if i got that confused.
i actually just flashed the stock verizon animation to see if it was the samsung one and wifi is still broken.
i do remember after flashing only the boot animation the first time around (must have forgotten about the keyboard) wifi did not work after a reboot.
now the wifi toggle looks different:
I have this exact issue upon reboot. I checked the logs and apparently for some reason, upon reboot /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf has the incorrect permissions set. Manually setting to 775 or 755 should immediately restore the ability to turn on wifi.
Hmm my permissions on that file are 660 and I'm fine. Should be worth a shot though.
In order to pull a custom boot ani out, go to /data/local and remove the bootanimation.zip
That should revert you back to the stock synergy animation. Just paste it back in there and make sure permissions are 755 to re-enable it.
I tried changing the permissions with es explorer and I tried rom toolbox both successfully changed the permissions but wifi still did not work. If I look back on the permissions of that file it is reset back

No i didnt change kernel. I am with kernel which was with the build.
Should i try any custom kernel
at this point you need your wifi back. Do you have any back up that you can restore? flash official build , or another custom rom, flah a kernel...just get the thing working. I have had that issue before on a different phone after flashing a kernel, something got corrupted so try another.

Wifi is working again.
I installed certificate from adclear app and rebooted. The reboot was stucked at google logo for around 60-90 seconds and then boot animation started.
i started cleaning my interner storage as i was preparing to backup on pc and flash mra58k image. And uninstalled android authority app. And deleting all the folders that were just eating space.
Any ways thanks for your replies.
My mac address also is reverted back to original one.
The wpa supplicant is also now having around 10-12 lines then my wifi details.
Can anyone explain what happened.

I wiped befire flahing kernel.
Also tried paranoid v4.45 kitkat rom but in that also wifi didnt worked.
It's not software. It's failing hardware. Your Bluetooth will also stop working, as it's the same chip. Mine does the same thing. I've flashed multiple ROMs and tried changing wifi system files. Nothing has helped...
Sent from my TARDIS
I bought my Nexus 5 the first month it came out. Since then I have never touched the original system or even root it. About a month ago my wifi suddenly stopped working. I have decided to root and flash roms, after factory reset and basic solutions on google didn't work. I have tried a couple of different roms all on android 6 and 7. Wifi still not working. I havent tried flashing kernel and I don't have a file called /persist in the main directory...
EDIT: Cellular data & Bluetooth working.
If changing software and resetting doesn't fix the wifi problem, it's probably a defective wifi chip. I have two nexus 5 motherboards in my desk drawer with no wifi (tries turn on but never does or turns on then off by itself) but cell and Bluetooth work.
So I updated to 11.0.08.14.KB05BA.
I then rooted using the guide here, via Magisk
Rooted, everything works, except:
My wifi connection will not turn on (let alone connect).
I hit the wifi icon, it "turns on" and then "turns off"
I go to the wifi settings and hit the bar to turn it on. it stays red, but no wifi connections are made.
I tried to reset the wifi, mobile, data setting under systems, nothing changed
I tried to reflash the patched boot file without any change.
so my question is, can I fix it by:
A. flashing the stock modem.img? and if so what is the correct adb text (fastboot flash modem modem.img?)
tried it, no change, so I guess I have my answer
B. reflashing stock everything and starting a new root with Magisk and hope it works a second time (i.e. start over)
Yup. Problem that the stock version on the OP website is not the same file as Oxygen Updater "Stock version". No clue. Got the boot from the Oxygen updater version and will try it with it now.
Fixed: all good now. I will delete this this post in a moment.
Thanks @parakleet

I am guessing you flashed something that was modified or possibly images for a different model.
I think the only solution sure to resolve your issue is to return to the stock image of your device.
anyone know how to delete a thread?

Don't delete it. You're journey will help others avoid the problem or help them get out of it if they do the same thing you did.
