[Q] Unlock and install CROMi-X

Hi,
After 1 year my warranty is now off and i'm starting to replace the slow stock rom by CROMi-X rom.
My tab is a 4.2.1 / 10.6.1.14.8 stock rom and so far here is what i have done :
- backup all my apps with Titanium Backup and copy them on my PC
- unlock with Asus unlock tool
- install goomanager
- install OpenRecoveryScript from within goomanager
Now i'm downloading the deodex cromi-x 4.7.0 before doing next steps.
I have few questions :
- TWRP was it installed when i installed goomanager and OpenRecoveryScript or did I miss a step ?
in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223492 it's indicated :
If you are already rooted then use goomanager to install the latest TWRP via the menu
So I believe I have to do something inside goomanager but i don't find literaly in its menu the option "install latest TWRP".
Coud you please indicate me what option of the menu I have to use to do that step ?
- i've chosen deodex in case i'd like to add theme. is it your own choice or do you prefer odex ?
- is it interesting to install nvflash (i'm sure anyway that my tab is compatible with that) ?
- nandroid backup : is it done from inside TWRP (after boot recovery) ?
- navigate backup to install : is it done from inside TWRP (after boot recovery) ?
That's all for the moment, thanks in advance for your assistance

I see in some other threads that this is the goomanager option "install recoveryscript" that install TWRP and now i see in my tab inside folder goomanager that there is a file openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-tf700t.blob. It seems to me that this is the rwrp tool. Am I right ? Then it means that I could now boot on recovery (option Rebbot Recovery inside goo manager + Power and Volume Down and hit Volume up on the RCK icon in the 10.6.1.x bootloader screen) to do next actions (backup my current rom and then install the cromi-x rom).
Question : Do I need to do a factory reset ?

Thanks maxal, i will do a first comi-x installation without hard reset and i'll see how it's going on.
I remind here my few questions for which I prefer to have answer before I do next steps of my first custom rom installation. If somebody has answers, thanks in advance

- I did not use goo to install the twrp, so I don't know how it works...
- I believe that you use goo to find the latest twrp and install it yourself using goo. There must be a menu or button that you can use to install twrp or other custom recovery.
- You can not use NVFlash to backup your blob if your tab has a rom version later than ICS .26.
- Yes, you can nandroid backup from TWRP when you have it installed.
- I use both of them to test out the theory of performance. I don't know if one is better than the other. However, I have noticed that Sbdags has more tweaks in the build.prop of Odex version comparing with Deodex. Only Sbdags can answer that question for. You could try both and test them yourself. Hope that I answer all yourquestions..
- Yes, you can restore your backup from TWRP.
The post above me has a good question for you. Goo needs root permission to install any custom recovery. You can use motochopper to get root if you have not had it. Good luck.
To install twrp recovery using Goo you must be rooted first tha'ts why I asked have you used motochopper to root.

To install twrp using Goo is easy, open Goo, look in the top right hand corner for the three dot click on it then click on install open recovery.
Wait for twrp to download and your tablet should boot into update mode and you should see a blue bar build from the left when it's finished it should reboot ans you should then have twrp installed.
You can download quick boot from the play store and when you open it you will see an option to enter recovery, the easy way,

You don't imagine how many times I've read the CROMI-X instruction (link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223492) in order to be sure not to brick my tab !
I don't see any missing task or any wrong thing that i've done. But this is the first time I ever install an alternate rom on an android device and even if i'm working in computing, this is quite new for me and I might be wrong. So if you have a few minutes to check my resume below, I would be very grateful to have your remarks or questions
My current configuration :
- stock rom 4.2.1
- bootloader 10.6.1.14.8
- root (via motochooper)
What I have done :
- download "CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.7.0 DEODEX" from CROMI-X thread link
and copy the zip file (CROMi-Xenogenesis DEODEX 4.7.0_Signed.zip) to the internal SD card
- backup all my apps and data (with Titanium Backup) and copy it on my computer
- unlocked the tab (via asus unlock tool) : at bootup it displays "the device is unlocked"
- twrp installed (via goo manager / install OpenRecoveryScript)
- quick boot installed (as i was not sure of how to use twrp)
- boot on recovery (via quick boot) : i'm now in TWRP v2.6.0.0
- done backup of 3 partitions (system, data, boot)
If I read the CROMI-X thread, it says that now I have to :
- Navigate back up to install (inside TWRP)
- Choose the CROMi-Xenogensis zip file and follow the instructions
- Enjoy

Yes what you have done sounds right, one thing I normally do is back up all the partitions, and I copy the back up to the micro sdcard that I have mounted in the tablet.

I don't have any micro-sdcard and my largest sdcard (to connect to the dock) is not large enough (1 Gb). So i've quit TWRP and connect the tab to my PC to copy the TWRP/Backup folder to my computer.
The copy from my tab to my PC is not working for the large files (i don't know why).
I'm doing again the backup : this time i do backup of all partitions (not only the 3 selected by default).
As i don't do factory reset, I should not loose this backup, should I ?

Noob friendly guide for rooting / flashing custom recovery / flashing official samsung firmware with odin
IMPORTANT: you cant blame me if you do screw things up with your device! all these instructions are based on my own experience only with my i9305 LTE. i cant guarantee that this will work with every samsung galaxy device there is! but on most of them it should work. you need to do your own research for odin compatibility and or instructions on how to flash if they differ from these steps below!
IMPORTANT!!!!: fellow i9305 users! if you have never flashed android 4.3 and above before and you are on 4.1.2 or older, you have the old bootloader without KNOX, which is good :good: but if you do flash 4.3 and above stock official you will get new bootloader with KNOX and we all know that sucks!! so flash only stock 4.1.2 if you dont want the new KNOX bootloader!! more info about KNOX here
NOTE: these 3 operations --> rooting / flashing custom recovery / flashing official samsung firmware should be done separately, you cant do all 3 at the same time !! if you need to perform all 3 operations, the logical flashing order would be like this: 1st. official samsung firmware / 2nd. rooting / 3th. custom recovery
NOTE: please ensure that samsung KIES software is not running in the background while using Odin, because KIES and ODIN dont go along!
NOTE: these instructions can be performed for other samsung galaxy devices as well, using the device specific files ofcourse
ATTENTION: warranty will be void hereby!! steps to root device / flash custom recovery / flash official samsung firmware in this order:
1. download Odin3 v3.09 from the link above and unzip, then right click odin3 v3.09 and ''open as administrator'' on your pc
2. download CF auto root / custom recovery / official samsung firmware from the links above and extract/unzip where needed to get .tar md5 file
3. in Odin, in the ''option'' section you should check the boxes of auto reboot / f. reset time and uncheck re-partition!!
4. enable usb debugging in your device in developer options, if you dont see developer options, go to ''about phone'' and tap the buildnumber 7 times and developer options should be visible now (this part is not strictly necessary, just in case if your device is not recognized by pc or odin. generally it is recommended to enable usb debugging with file transfers between device and pc)
5. turn off device now, and put it in odin downloadmode by pressing and holding VOLUME DOWN - HOME - POWER buttons at the same time till you see the black screen with white ''samsung galaxy sIII GT-i9305'' text, then you let go the buttons, now press VOLUME UP and it will boot into downloadmode
6. in odin, click AP button and select the CF auto root / custom recovery / official samsung firmware .tar md5 file that you have extracted/unzipped earlier (in odin under message box, it should say blablabla.tar md5 file is valid!)
7. now connect your i9305 to pc with usb cable (in odin under message box, it should say added!)
8. now your ready to hit START button, after finished (in odin under message box, it should say removed!) your device will reboot and will be rooted / installed custom recovery / installed official samsung firmware in the left upper corner you should see a green box saying PASS, you can disconnect from pc now
This is how you boot into recovery to check it after you have flashed/installed it: press and hold VOLUME UP - HOME - POWER buttons at the same time till you see the black screen with white ''samsung galaxy sIII GT-i9305'' text, then you let go the buttons and it will boot into recovery
To make sure you are rooted, download root checker app from playstore
After rooting, there is a chance that after reboot some message like ''supersu has stopped'' will popup, DONT worry read further...
After you have rooted the device, there will be a app called ''SuperSU'' among your apps, but its a older version of the app and its ''SU binary'' needs to be updated. go to playstore and under my apps search for supersu, it should state that it needs to be updated, do that and restart your phone. you can also flash this UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.65-20151226141550.zip in your recovery if you prefer so, both do the same. Configure the settings of supersu after the reboot as you like. for those who got the KNOX bootloader, while updating SU binary, supersu should ask you to deactivate KNOX, just accept and proceed
Congratulations that's all !!
Useful info and important tips for flashing with Odin or your recovery:
- first of all, dont flash any custom rom/stock firmware/custom recovery/custom kernel other then what is made specifically for our i9305!
- it is generally recommended to make a nandroid backup in recovery before taking any action!
- before using odin, make sure your device has at least 50-60% battery level. why? because, if your phone goes off suddenly while installing a custom ROM, flashing an official firmware update or installing mods etc. your phone might get bricked or go dead permanently. no one wants that, right?
- flashing ONLY official stock firmware will not raise the flash counter! and you will not void warranty
- do NOT turn your device off or pull the battery while flashing!!
- any problems, try these few things: update usb drivers, and restart your pc; different cables; different usb ports. other solutions may include redownloading the file
- full .tar md5 files are very large and can take as long as 15 minutes to complete. smaller files such as recoveries normally only takes 10 to 20 seconds
- if you are currently rooted and intend to flash a stock firmware, you will loose root!
- always READ instructions carefully! RESEARCH before posting your questions! refer to i9305 Q&A thread for questions and answers / additional info / assistance, if you need to...

ODIN buttons explanation:
BL refers to the bootloader
AP refers to the build version of the software/firmware
CP refers to the baseband/modem version
CSC is the consumer software customisation and is specific to geographical region and carriers. it contains the software packages specific to that region, carrier branding and also APN settings for data connection, MMS etc for your service provider
CSC has nothing to do with what languages the firmware supports and it will not add keyboard language support either
PIT refers to the Partition Information Table you only need it if you screw up your partition table or if the firmware specifically requires it because of a change in the partition table layout. its very likely you may never have to use this, at least i hope so however KEEP IN MIND there is a HIGH chance of bricking your device with a bad partition table if you do this wrong!! dont forget to check the box re-partition if youre gonna use it! Thanks @lyriquidperfection for the pit file here
if the package only contains one .tar md5 file then it will have everything, AP+BL+CSC+CP, in one file
a stock firmware downloaded from sammobile or samsung updates will contain all of these in one .tar md5 file
if it has multiple .tar md5 files then:
the .tar md5 with modem/CP in the name is the phone/baseband part of the package
the .tar md5 with CSC/multi-csc in the name is the csc part of the package
the .tar md5 with code/AP in the name is the AP part of the firmware package
the .tar md5 with BL in the name is the bootloader part of the package
if this is the case you will need to put these .tar md5 files in the specific areas of odin to flash the update/stock rom
Step 5.
I am and will not be responsible for any kind of damage to your device, flash at your own risk !!!

you have to flash it with odin. download odin from OP
if you dont know how to use odin then google about it..
Isn't CWM 6.0.4.7 the version built for CyanogenMod ??
I'd personally still leave a link for the original 6.0.2,9 because not all CWM .zip files work with the newer version.
I've personally used TWRP for a long time now and it just got better with the app they released to go alongside it (search for TWRP on google play)

of course works mate, works with me every damn time
Question, on my Note n7000 i have CWM 6.0.4.8 and it's rather nice in the way that the touch works. It's not touch enabled like Philz, the screen acts more like a touchpad.
You swipe up for up, down for down. It's not one swipe, one slot, it's more like scroll, like the touch device on the N1, or the original Desire.
You swipe right for "Enter", left for back.
Can we have this?

time to update.. SuperSu v1.99 !
Bump
Could you guys explain why you prefer each recovery ? I prefer TWRP because it's more ergonomic and easy to use , you can select multi Zip flashing , the "format /system" is in wipe settings , you can do multiple wipes in one click , it's a true time gain

[ROOT][SHV-E300L]How to obtain root permissions on 4.4.2 NG8 or higher [9-27-14]

Ok, I've been searching a lot on how to root these device and haven't found a single working root method for the latest firmware on the Korean variant specifically [L] variants. I haven't tested on other devices, so i can't guarantee that it will work on yours too.
So I spent hours experimenting on my Phone, good thing I didn't bricked it and no side effects received from rooting.
DISCLAIMER: Rooting your phone will void your warranty, and can be dangerous. Root at your OWN RISK!
Note: this will tick ur KNOX counter!
Things you needed are: (Links added)
1. Cofface S4 recovery: http://d-h.st/TLT
2. Odin (Already Included in cofface s4 recovery)
3. SuperSU flashable zip (For Permanent Root) : http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
Steps:
1. Copy the flashable supersu zip on your memory card. (i put mine on /android/obb since the recovery cant see it in other folders.)
2. Flash cofface s4 recovery.tar via Odin, flash it as PDA or AP on latest versions of Odin.
3. After flashing the recovery.tar it will automatically reboot to the recovery (dont use the root/unroot method included in the recovery. IT WILL NOT WORK ON LATEST FIRMWARES!)
4. while in recovery choose install from sd card and flash the supersu zip that you downloaded.
5. Wipe Dalvik (just to make sure)
6. Reboot & Enjoy.
Other variants, if you try this method please do report back so we will know if it works on your phone models too.
Thanks To:
Cofface for the recovery

Thanks Alberto, i managed to build a TWRP and a CTR recovery for U300.
Unfortunately TWRP have no working touch because of a kernel issue, but you can use OTG mouse to work on this... Later i will try with latest 3.03 rom and share with community. Regards

- Rename U300 Carliv CTR.img into Recovery.img (if you wanto to flash CTR recovery)
- Rename U300TWRP 3.02 No Touch.img into Recovery.img (if you wanto to flash TWRP recovery, but remember that you need OTG Mouse to use this recovery)
1- With flashtool load MT6750_Android_Scatter.txt
2- Select download and connect smartphone to pc (smartphone must be powered off)… in few seconds will start the process and the new CTR/TWRP will be flashed

Please NOTE that CTR recovery could access internal memory that is named ExtraSD (so in install menu, choose zip from ExtraSD).
Move in CTR Recovery with Vol+ and Vol - and confirm with Power key.

System.IMG Repack
In order to customized my UHANS U300, I already unpack and repack my System.IMG with various software, tools, script, Cygwin, android kitchen, Assayed Kitchen and also through Linux Mint and Lubuntu... but my phone stuck during boot. (Only display boot image from logo.bin). I believe my repack System.IMG's size was correct but the phone still stuck, and checksum failed. (I disable checksum by change switch from "1" to "0".
Can anybody help me, how to get rid of these?
Thanks in advance guys.
I bought it off ebay cheap (for £35) even though it's almost £200 on gearbest etc. I don't think people would want to clone this phone but wondered how it could be that cheap. My kernel version: 3.18.22 is this the latest update for the phone? I did a factory reset since when I got it it was already set up (even though sold as new) I could see an after-image of the Chinese seller so wanted to be safe rather than sorry. Hope someone can help in getting the most out of this phone/remove bloatware etc and how to check everything's ok?
Also any way to upgrade Android?
