Settings for Optimal Daily Screen On Time and Usage

Beware: These are my settings and have worked for me and a few other family/friends who own HTC One X's. What may work for one person may not work for everyone. Because different people use their phone differently throughout the day. But with these tips and settings each person was able to maximize the use and efficiency of the battery (including me).
ON AVERAGE I GET : 3-4 HOURS SCREEN TIME, ON ALL DAY MODERATE TO HEAVY USAGE , MY BEST WAS 5 HRS AT ONE POINT!
(Text Messaging, 1 hour Phone Calls, Camera, Music, Facebook, Email, WebBrowsing, Twitter, Spotify, PULSE News, ESPN Scorecenter)
-----------------------------------------------
Before we start If you are on OTA 2.20 Update make sure you root your phone using this guide (you can only do this if you saved the "Unlock_code.bin" from the 1.85 root method.

------------------------------------------------
After you complete the above requirement. Then move onto the tips/tricks below
APPS NEEDED: BetterBatteryStats (root required), BatteryCalibration (root required), Quick Boot (root required), SetCPU (root required), SmartSync Disabler, TitaniumBackup (root required), Watchdog
Within Settings:
1. Wi-Fi:
Go to Advanced -->
- Turn off "Network Notification Setting"
- Select Always for "Keep Wi-Fi on during Sleep"
- Un-check "Best Wi-Fi Performance)
2. Still inside settings click on "More" under "Mobile Network"
- Make Sure "NFC" is set to OFF
3. In Accounts and Sync
- Make sure you turn off any sync settings you dont need. I usually leave DropBox, Facebook, Weather, Google on.
4. In Location
- Turn off GPS Satellites.
- I keep 1st and the 3rd setting checked usually all the time.
5. Display, Gestures, & buttons
- (This is Personal Choice) I uncheck "Animation"
- Uncheck "HTC gestures"
6. Sound
- Uncheck "Quiet ring on pickup" , "Pocket Mode", "Flip for speaker"
- Also uncheck "Dial pad touch tones", "Touch Sounds", "Screen lock sound" , "Vibrate feedback" .
7. Power
- Uncheck "Fast boot"
8. Language & keyboard
- Inside "HTC Sense Input" setting, Turn off "Sound feedback" , "Vibration feedback" , "Trace keyboard" , "Toggle keboards"
EXIT OUT OF SETTINGS
NOW:
- If you have the Sense UI Weather/Clock Widget good!, if not add the Widget to your Homescreen for this part
-- Click on the Cloud or Weather Icon on the Weather/Clock Widget ... THEN click on "Menu" --> Then click on "Edit" = now erase any of the other locations for weather ... this reduces the amount of places the weather has to sync to.
--- NEXT ... Go back to the home screen and now on the Weather/Clock Widget this time click on the Time ... THEN at the bottom click on "World Clock" ---> Then click on "Edit" at the top within the "World Clock" screen ---> then delete the other World Times ...
---------------------------------------------------
Download "SmartSync Disabler"
- Check the setting "Disable smartsync" (smartsync is apparently some glitch that causes your phone to drain overnight, look into it...)
- Restart your phone
------------------------------------------------
Download "Watchdog"
- Configure it and leave it be; this app will tell you when there are rogue apps running wild in the background.
-- After you are notified about the rogue app you can go and close it .... very useful to minimize stray apps causing battery drain
----------------------------------------------
Download "SetCPU"
- Set the "max" to "1134" (value I use, and i experience no lag .... this underclocks your phone without noticable lag or performance issues)
- The "min" is by default at "384" , leave it at that
- Check the setting "Set on Boot"
- At the bottom there are 2 little tabs:
1st tab: select "ondemand"
2nd tab: select "noop"
-----------------------------------------------
Download "TitaniumBackup" (I use pro version)
- Click on the "Backup/Restore" tab
-- Once inside the tab find and freeze any bloatware apps/signed apps that you dont need our use ... just longpress on any useless Apps and choose
--- For example I froze: YellowPages, ATT Navigator, Car, CityID, MOG, HTC Hub, Live TV, Top HD Games...etc...
-----------------------------------------------
Download "QuickBoot"
- Use this to quickly reboot or power down just by clicking on the app without having to hold on the power button.
----------------------------------------------
Download "BatteryCalibration"
- Charge the battery to 100%
- Once you are at a 100%, open this APP
- If you see "100%" in white bold letters --> Then click on Calibrate ---> Then unplug your phone and use
UR BATTERY IS NOW CALIBRATED
USE THIS AFTER SWITCHING ROMS and ETC ...
-------------------------------------------
Download "BetterBatteryStats"
- Use this app to check which apps are causing a lot of drain
- Look up the guide on how to use this APP to hone your "wakelocks"
----------------------------------------
HOPE THIS GUIDE AND STEPS HELP YOU AS MUCH AS IT DID ME, MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS!
I do all of these except battery calibration, setcpu, and I leave GPS on.
I don't see a need to use the battery calibration app on this phone. All my CPU tweaks I apply via init script so I don't need the app running using resources. Also I've found that GPS doesn't eat up too much unless an app is misbehaving. Also most of the sound stuff won't do to much. The only other thing I could suggest is use manual screen brightness instead of auto.
Other then that these are some good guidelines to good battery life
Good job OP
Edit: I also don't leave watchdog on there unless its a new ROM/app I'm testing. If you aren't experiencing wake locks there isn't much need for this app. Great for sniffing out rogue apps however!

HELLO! THANK U FOR THE KIND COMMENTS! ANY HELP WITH HOW TO DO THE "init.d" STUFF WOULD BE GREAT! GUIDE MAYBE?!
I'm curious what is NFC under the network setting?
I'm currently trying to max battery life, o have notice huge drops in battery time since moving to the new base.
Oh ...nice guide, should help a lot of people.

Underneath "Mobile Network" there are 3 dots? click on that and then you shall see NFC within one of those settings!

[Q] New Android 6.0 Update Power Saving mode disconnects FB Messenger

Hi, guys!
I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 now running Android 6.0.1 update but until Marshmallow was released I was always having Power Saving mode on cause I didn't need all the performance all day, every day. After the new update, however, I noticed that not only the power saving mode turns the status bar grey (and it just can't be removed) but it also disconnects my Facebook Messenger. It keeps showing "Waiting for network" in the app or chat bubbles even though the network is just fine and the phone has internet. I am not sure if it does the same thing with WhatsApp cause I don't use it so often but I need Messenger on all the time.
I've tried searching on Google and here as well but couldn't find anything. I'm sorry if there is already a post about it, I must have missed it. I know Power Saving mode reduces background data and all that but it didn't disconnect Messenger before the update. Is there any way it can be solved?
Thank you in advance!
I'm having exactly the same problem. Haven't found a way to fix it. :/

I have had the exact same problem, all since I updated to 6.0. Its a joke to be honest, none of my apps work unless you open them whilst on power saving mode, and if I dont use power saving mode my phone is dead within 2 hours. Why this has been allowed to happen with no way of changing the settings is beyond me. I've spent ages searching for solutions to "unable to access server" or "server not located" or "waiting to connect" etc, I've searched the internet for hours and hours. Yet the reality is that power saving mode is causing it and is therefor redundant. Scandalous.
Did you find a solution? Currently in the same boat
Hey guys, I had the same problem. So far, what has worked was exempting FB Messenger from battery optimization, which I think restricts sync privileged from an app under certain circumstances.
Battery > More (top right corner) > Optimize Battery Usage > Tap on "Apps not optimized" and switch to "All Apps" ; find Messenger and set the toggle to off.

Legend, i'll give that a shot, cheers
Clear messenger data and cache and it will run properly again

Multitasking not working properly

Hello, Android keep killing apps. For example I browse web on Chrome, open Google Maps and after a few second switch back to the Chrome and it's already dead, so it take time till it opens and loads web page. It happening with basically every app including Google Now Luncher.
I haven't got any task manager, developers options are set to default, RAM usage is on 300 MB. Have anyone idea how to fix it?
Phone LG G Flex 2 (H955), Android 6.0.1
have you turned on doze??? or powersaving modes??
are you rooted??
Battery saver is off and in Flex 2 there is no settings for doze, but "Ignore optimization" window where you can select apps individually, but it didn't help.

How to get good battery life?

Hello everyone,
So I was wondering how to get good battery life?
I am on stock firmware latest update. No root.
Installed system wakelock detection but only whatsapp waking up like 5 times.
But, still draining a lot of percentage when the device is idle.
I used greenify to hibernate some apps.
Downgrading cpu is maybe an option.
I hope anyone has an idea!
Depends what you define as "good battery life." I find some people think they should be getting 12 hours SOT and 0% overnight drain because they read a post by someone who has their phone running with half the functions disabled and 5% screen brightness.
There are a couple of kernels that cap CPU performance if that's what you want. But you're probably better off figuring out what apps are using battery and optimize/remove them. Battery life is typically a userspace issue.

Now I am getting 3 hours of SOT max.
I do have quite a lot apps (127 apps)
But I can't figure out which ones are taking battery.
Read one of the battery guides posted in the forums, they might help you out.
With root you can detect drain eazy with betterbatterystats, if you wish to go that road.
Disable functions you don't need currently. Some apps track you with gps even when you don't use them wich drains a lot of battery. Especially from Apps that don't need this to function normally this is very uncool. Take away the permissions Apps don't need if possible.
Also look up Settings/ Battery for your battery consumption
Why not search the forum bro? Someone made a special post on how to get the best battery life...... i know its hard to use the search function but please try

Stop using apps like Greenify and wakelock detector, they honestly do more harm than good with the newer versions of Android. OnePlus has this built in anyways, called battery optimization. Turn on advanced optimization and only allow apps you NEED to get real time notifications for, I get great battery life with that setup.

I go to settings>accounts>google and turnoff all the syncing options. For calendar and contacts, when I add any, I go into there and just turn them on, let them sync and then turn them back off. Why just let them sync all day long with nothing to sync? Doesn't make sense to me. Also in Setting>Data Usage>Cellular Data Usage i tap each thing and disable background data for each individual app that I don't need doing anything. I leave apps like email, messaging apps (Textra, What'sApp web browser, Google Play Services, Solid Explorer, DropBox, Weather Android OS ) with background on so they work properly. So you know, things like Web Browsers and Solid Explorer you need their background data on so if you are downloading from the net or moving files with the file manager they will fail, so you have to leave those on. Likewise with Google Play Services, you can't download from the play store with background data disabled.
Also, you can turn off location permissions to all apps that don't need it. Go to settings>apps>App Permissions and you can select Location and it will list all apps that have the ability to request Location Permissions. Right now mine says 4 of 30 has location permissions. I have Samsung Internet, Google, Maps and Weather. I have all other apps location turned off. Here you can just go down the list instead have having to go into each app. I also Keep Location set to battery saving unless I need Maps and I just turn it to High Accuracy.
With this and keeping screen brightness on auto I get 9-11 hours SOT. Maybe a little less now since I just bought a gear S3 Frontier watch so my Bluetooth is always active now and communicating to the watch. Oh and a couple other things. I have work email set to push and personal email to sync every 3 hours and weather sync every 6 hours. These are things that are personal preferences and will cause battery life to vary. But setting up background data usage and Location permissions can go a long way for battery life.

How do you do to setting up the email to sync every 3 hours? For example with Gmail or outlook
cellular signal booster is the best solution to significantly reduce battery drawing.
AOSP with fully manual control of each and everyone app and service on your phone.

I use blue mail. It's free and works with exchange for my work email. I don't use Gmail as it sucks for tweaking. I rarely use Google apps. I use Google calendar, YouTube, Google sheets and Google docs and that's it.
In blue mail there are sync settings

Let me know how it works out for you.
maybe you could try
1. going to developer option and decreasing the animation to 0.5x from 1x
2. disabling auto sync in accounts
3. enabling dark theme
4. using wifi more, than using 4G
you will significantly see improvement in the battery life, though the battery is already kickass in the first place

Don't close app on screen off -> some apps not following settings...

I am on MHA-L29C567B190, 7.0 Android (Some of my apps won't run on Oreo).
I am having a few apps that close when I turn the screen off (intermittently) even though I have them set to not close. One is particularly annoying: Pandora. I'd say 80% of the time I play Pandora, and turn the screen off, it goes dead. Sometimes a relaunch it will work and sometimes not.
I don't know if that feature is an Android feature, or a Huawei feature. Does anyone know?
Anyone else having this problem? Know of a fix?
easy use battery optimisation turn to manually.100 percent works

manage app laucnch.battery optimization part
I appreciate your reply.
I'm sorry, I don't understand what Yukon are telling me ttyl set. I don't sees any optimization settings. When I go into optimize out find an optimizer.
Go to settings - battery - launch and find the app then change to manual mode(ensure that you enable the 3 options especially run in background)
Or go to special access - ignore Battery optimization - select all apps then scroll Don to Pandora, tap on it, select allow then click OK and exit
yep u r rite.follow the instruction that he give.Iaunch manually for that app and second ignore battery optimization mean let it run while in backround
Well, my US version doesn't have those settings. There is no launch option under battery on my phone.
I did just now notice for the first time that I have a gear icon in upper right corner of Battery. Clicking that, I see this option:
Close excessively poer-intensive apps
Auto-close excessively power-intensive apps running in the background
Click to collapse
So I turned that off. I don't know if that will affect the Close apps after screen lock settings.
