[Q] Navigation Bar - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I am wondering if there are any ways to directly customize the navigation bar buttons by themselves? I wanted to have the classic Kitkat soft keys. So far, themes can have their own style of soft keys. Hell, I'd like a Kitkat theme, but I have had no luck finding one. I decide to turn to XDA to see if anyone knows anything. I was also looking for the LG style soft keys found on the G3, Tribute and others. Same ordeal: just want to be pointed in the right direction OR see what my other options are.
Thanks guys!

Certainly, check topic who talk about create a Theme.

I will thank you.

Softkeyz works wonders for me. You can even import your own .png buttons. For example, I modded the lo ninja pro keys by adding 60% transparency and dropping a shadow. I am on 5.1.1 but I can have any navi keys I want!

Transparent Softkeys?

I just got this awesome phone, and I wonder if it would be possible to either hide the Softkeys (Back, Home and Recent) or make them 20-40% transparent, so the wallpapers look like fullscreen.
Any advice is appreciated.

I think you can just unzip the apk, change the images, repack it and flash. Do you how to do all that correctly? And let me see if I can whip something up for you today.
Well I know how to flash but not exactly how (and what) files to edit... But then you mean by editing this keys, then they would be semi transparent within any app, or just the main home screen? Either way would be fine by me

You unpack the SystemUI.apk, edit the icons you want to change and repack out and flash. Know where the soft keys are but not the background they are on.

Well, I'm not that good at editing stuff, so if someone out there could make the flashable file, it'd be much appreciated

It would be much appreciated!
Also, If the "header" (where Signal, Clock, and Notifications go) could match the transparency of the keys, it would be great!
I'm guessing a 30% increase to transparency, added to the "default" keys would make the wallpaper visible, yet, the keys would still be noticeable...
Any update on a flashable file?

I dont get the problem...
I'm on 4.1.2 stock and my softkey are transparent by default...
4.1.2? That's on the XT925 international version right?
Anyway, I'm on stock 4.1.1 and both the bottom buttons and status bar are transparent on the home screen.

Yes seems like it is oO
It's a branded one, by the carrier "o2"
so dont know if its some internetionals versoini or it isn't
They are *kind of* transparent, on my phone as well, but I hoped someone could make a flashable file that turned them really transparent within every sub menu or application. If you notice, they turn completely black even if you are on the home screen but using a live wallpaper. I'd also like to avoid /fix that.

I did my own SystemUI.apk already, with blue buttons and some mirroring-effect. But i couldn't find a possibility to make the background of the buttons transparent, as desired here. Is there anyone out there having a hint, how this could be realised?
otipmen easy
what do we have to edit in Systemui.apk to get transparency?

[APP]SoftKeyZ - Apply and mix Softkeys/Navigation Button themes

Hi,
I have just remembered this app, I share it here:
Description
This application will let you change the SoftKeys / Navigation Buttons fast and easily. This app comes with more than 150+ different soft-buttons to choose from and more will be added with every update. If you got some navigation buttons you would like to see in this app just write an email about it. Until I've added them, you can just use the import feature for these soft keys. This application needs root and "BusyBox" to be installed. This app will NOT overwrite your applied themes, or enable the navigation buttons on devices without them.
Odexed ROM?: Some people are reporting small to bigger problems with odexed ROMs. Sometimes your choosen wallpaper can disappear.
WARNING: This app modifies system files and should only be used with a flashable backup of your current ROM on your device. The developer is not responsible for any damages.

It can be nice to change the look of the soft buttons , I have not tested yet so I don't know if it works well and maybe it can conflict with some Xposed modules for the navigation bar...
Feedbacks are welcome...
Doesn't work for me

The guy that made the app made it to work on the nexus line. He didn't expect it to work on the g2. I tested also and as was expected it doesn't work. Steer clear of this thing until/unless the app developer okays it.

These work for me so far.
UDN - Needs Xposed and works really well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270198
LMT Launcher - Awesome pie nav bar. Select #9 in Gesture input. Works perfectly on my G2.
G2 Exposed - Use this to hide stock navbar. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477586
Anyone find a way yet?

Navigation Buttons

Is there a way to change or add to the navigation buttons? I hate not having a menu button and I am used to the back button being on the right.

I hope this isn't too silly of a question but is there any way to make the navigation buttons appear stock after root? I ordered a GP Edition but hate waiting and I'm most likely gonna use nova launcher anyways but the navigation buttons will still look like htc at least they did when I tried loading nova and a kit kat theme on a floor unit in verizon. Any help please?

Just saying, having a dedicated menu on android 4.3+ is ridiculous. In 4.3 android changed to force menu softkeys in the navbar when available (or in app when navbar is not supported). Buy I can understand wanting to swap or add other buttons. Easy enough with xposed.

Hide Soft Keys on M8

If you're tired of the on screen buttons getting in the way of typing, root your phone with weak sauce and then download gmd hide soft keys from the play store. Here is a video if you want to see it in action.

Actually, I'm sick and tired of the bloody keys constantly disappearing when I most need them. We have a huge screen already and I'd rather have a mod that nails the keys in place, so that they never ever disappear. Lol.
Just my 2 cents...

You can still manipulate things like transparency, height, width and colour with the app so its pretty good if you want that too.
Personally hate the speaker chin and button combo, wish they went with the HOX set up. Used to using pie now anyways.
HTC-ONE-M8
Does anyone know how to keep the stock navbar icons with this GMD Auto-Hide app? I like the app but don't like the buttons it uses, even when you choose the "HTC" option under themes. They just look ugly compared to the normal stock navbar icons.
this is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for posting this. Now I can utilize ALL of the screen.
Personally I always need the buttons when they are gone for a second with GMD

Thank you for that great hint.
This App works like a charm !
Install LMT Pie (XDA Download) and setup for BACK/HOME/RECENTS/MENU
Change build prop to remove software keys
Profit
You all realize this is "immersive mode" in android. The buttons only hide when they aren't needed. Simply swipe where the NAV bar would be and the icons come back.
Not to thread jack... but I'm currently using Ultimate Dynamic Nav bar (see this thread on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270198).
I find it more flexable (you can set your own keys, have up to 7, multiple themes, multiple behaviors).
Best feature? I have a button dedicated for screen off, and when you long press it, it opens up APM. I also have a menu button which launches volume control upon long press.
An alternative that works on the M8.
EDIT:
Whoops wrong Screenshot, please see the new one.
Is it possible to permanently cut down the height of the stock navbar by half?

From what I can tell.. no there isn't. However, using any of these custom applications, you can adjust the height of the nav bars.

Edit: Only thing it doesn't seem to work in is the camera. Cant see to call up the buttons, but all you have to do is go into the gallery and then it will work there.

I just checked this and it works for me
In the options menu, you need to select "Keep trigger at panels side" as well as "Keep panel on right". Then you can swipe on the right when using the camera and it will work.
It is a bit confusing, but if you don't have those options selected, when in the Camera you need to swipe from the button to open the buttons.

I wonder if the action bar settings in Dimensions Editor don't work in some apps because those apps have a set height for the action bar.

Like this, seems to work well. Would be better if it could be set on a per app basis, to keep them visible when running certain apps.
All of you do realize that 4.4.2 has "Immersive Mode" that lets you hide the Status Bar and/or the Nav Bar until they're needed, right??
ALL of these special NavBar apps and whatnot are redundant.

Where to get more on-screen buttons?

I notice that you can add search and menu buttons to the on-screen button layout, but that's pretty much it. LG phones have an awesome on-screen button that when pressed allows for the notification drawer to drop down. I wouldn't mind having that button.
Is there an app where we can download other on-screen buttons? Haven't had any luck finding these anywhere.
Thanks, peeps!
