[Q] Creating own firmware, bootloop - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello friends! I am trying to create a custom firmware for SM-G925F (Galaxy S6 edge). But in the end I get bootloop. What I did:
1. Deodexed /system (unpacked from original firmware) by JoelDroidLollipopBatchDeodexer (based on oat2dex).
2. Synced deodexed /system/framework, /system/priv-app and /system/app with original /system.
3. Repack system partition with ext2simg from Android 5.0.2 distro and sgs4ext4fs by Chainfire.
4. Prepared ODIN package with repacked system partition.
It flashes OK but after it stucks at bootloop. I did not patched anything yet, just deodexed with the tool.
I tried many different combinations but can't understand why it is not boot. On Android 4.4 I had no problems, but it seems some big under-the-hood changes in Android 5 which I don't fully understand yet so I really hope for forum members kind help.

[Q] mkyaffs2image on Samsung S3 system.img and S3 system.img build fails

Hello,
I apologize for the wide broadcast as I don't have the priviliage of directing my Q to Android-Samsung-S3-Developer's forum.
Background:
Using ASOP 4.1.1_r4 I have been able to extend the Wifi services, framework, wpa-supplicant, and WifiManager API and successfully (developing on a Ubuntu-12.04-LTS/64bit) update the firmware of a GalaxyNexus phone and use the new SDK with my diagnostics application.
Problem:
Due to project erquiremnets I need to repeat the process on Samsung S3, however
after successfully building the (GT-I9300, update 6) Samsung-Open-Source Kernel, also building the ASOP 4.1.1_r4 (after applying the Samung-Framework-delta), and using Android-Kitchen
to create and MD5 the tar ball, and after updating the S3 (via Odin 3.7) the handset hangs. Fortunately I can recover it with the stock-firmware available.
Please note that I only replace system.img (user-data, cache, modem.bin are from stock firmware). No PIT file is used in ODIN3.7, and "Re-Partition" is not enabled.
I would appreciate any assistance in the following:
a) I can unpack system.img built from ASOP and packed by mkyaffs2image tool (via unyaffs2 with chunck-size of 2048 and spare-size of 64) however I can not do so with the stock-firmware system.img file.
My own system.img is around 200M, however the stock system.img is more that 1G. Any ideas? Thank you.
b) Can you point me to a how-to guide on building S3 image from ASOP source, packaging it via Android-Kitchen and uploading it via ODIN?
Thank you very much and I apologize for the lenght of my posting.
Regards,
-MASHAK

[Q] Alcatel onetouch Idol 2 6037K

Is there a ROM that works for the Alcatel onetouch Idol 2 6037K? .I have the root permission but Ive tried a number of custom ROM but none is working. The device is even unsupported on ROM manager. Both TWRP and CWM couldn't work. Please assist

Run a backup of all your data before you begin.
if you are not expert in restoring your operating system in the event of a loop or in the case of black screen at startup does not proceed.
This information is for experienced users of Android.
Hello, I installed the rom kitkat 6037y 4.4.2 and it works perfectly on dual sim and all other functions.
The files that you need are the boot, system and custpack this link
http://www.mediafire.com/download/qicl9yc7lghtwph/alcatel_idol_6037y.rar
The TWRP find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3134162&d=1422254984
To install the TWRP must have the root, once you copied the recovery in your phone must use an application that emulates Android terminal and type
su
/sdcard/recovery.img cat> / dev / recovery; sync
If you are using TWRP create you file system.ext4.win mounting the system.img and creating a compressed tar file that then rename in .win for use with TWRP
Here written as do
http://www.google.it/url?sa=t&rct=j...6duCex2GqQLGBTnVUqJMFUw&bvm=bv.96339352,d.bGQ
You must replace / change the build.prop putting that in your rom 4.2.2. "Sudo mount -t ext4 -o loop custpack.img folder" copy and paste build.prop or modify it as you do yourself.
I have also used the "Alcatel Idol 2 6037y, Android L Mod Rom by Duke" and dual sim work and all other functions.
Unfortunately I am not able to turn the kitkat 4.4.2 with the look of Android lollipop

Can you share some further experiences with this? Perhaps some thoughts after 3 months, and what are you currently using on this phone?
I currently have the 6037k on the stock 4.2.2 (not rooted). I am very interested in your experiences, and battery life.
As of now I barely can make a whole work day, where most battery is spent on Phone, and not screen (with 2+ hours SOT, even!), and I hoped that upgrading the version would alleviate the problems.
Any information would be helpful, thanks

Sorry for the late reply. My wife just had a baby. You need to remove super user before you apply the update. The update wont work with SU. Its batter to do it with stock 100%
Brilliant. Took a bit of trial and error since I've not worked with this tool before but got my tablet updated to 4.4.2 at last. Thanks so much for putting this together, I really thought I'd be stuck on 4.2. Just gotta figure out how to root now, that doesn't seem to be working.

Does this allow the Tab to make and receive calls over GSM? Is this unbranded firmware not Vodafone firmware?
You need root access to install custom recovery via adb in fastboot, so you mean get root, install recovery then remove SU before flashing?
Okay so the first dump (4.2.2) is stock firmware from Hungary Vodafone used by mtktools to flash, please not this does not have super user so your device is allowed to update to the 4.4.2 file.
Second file is an update to 4.4.2 for those that missed out on the OTA release because they had root.
Third file is a custom debloated 4.4.2 flashable through CWM.
Never install SU on hungary 4.2.2 firmware as you will never get to upgrade to 4.4.2 firmware.
Updated with new files please check post #1
Gapps on RR v5.7.4 is now fully functional. Enjoy please dont Forget to hit that Thanks button!
New RR 5.7.4 Update:
THIS IS A TWRP RESTORE METHOD!
Replace DATA.* and SYSTEM.* files in one of your own backups of RR5.7.4!
Updated SU to 2.79
Busybox Updated
Gapps Installed
DivineBeats V9 installed
Please note there will be alot of missing apps as i needed to make room in system partition for this. There will be no call functionality, or messaging functionality. Also music player app is gone along with YGPS and Adaway. Let me know how you guys go
Where can I find Resurrection Remix in zip file ? Because there is not in your files (only RR 5.7.4 in rar file).

There is no scatter file for MT8382. Vodafone changed it to lock people out of backing up. The original scatter file provided is the real device code. Why are you asking for MT8382?

Extract the files and re-ZIP it as a zip file. I made a mistake. It won't affect install

All suggestions and helps are welcome here so please help me in improving this thread by suggesting your ideas.
This guide will work for any SPRD phone (any SPRD chip) from Old versions of android to latest Oreo but recoveries that I provided in this thread will work for devices from KitKat to Marshmallow no guarantees for older or newer versions.
Buckup! Backup! Backup!
Before modifying system it's highly recommended to have full dump of your device. So don't forget to take backup.
It's simple to get custom recovery for rooted users as they can directly backup, modify and flash recovery or boot images on the go with the help of root. But non-rooted users need to do some extra which will be explained later. Follow the below steps:
=>Download and setup AIK (Android Image Kitchen)
=>Grab your stock_recovery.img
For rooted usersInstall Flashify, Rashr, Partitions Backup or like apps (available on play store for free) and backup the stock recovery. If you are using Flashify to backup you have to rename the backed up image with .img extention
For non-rooted usersDownload your stock firmware which will be in .pac extension extract it using this guide and copy the recovery.img
=>Now download custom recovery (for downloads see 2nd post)
=>Port recovery
For PC version of AIK
• Extract the AIK on desktop in a folder (extracting inside other folder(s) is not recommended)
• Place stock_recovery.img (use the name recovery.img only I added stock to refer the image) in earlier extracted folder
• Now double click on 'unpacking.bat'
• Now you'll see two folders 'ramdisk (mostly executables)' and 'split-img (kernel to boot recovery) rename those folders like this 'ramdisk.s' and 'split_img.s' (renaming is used to avoid copying/moving needed files)
• Now delete the earlier pasted stock_recovery.img and paste custom_recovery.img (rename it to recovery.img)
• Unpack it just like stock_recovery
• Delete the split-img and rename the 'split_img.s' to split_img
• Open recovery.fstab from /ramdisk.s/etc (stock recovery's fstab) and /ramdisk/etc (custom recovery's fstab) using Notepad++ or with your favorite note editor. In case of TWRP recovery this file will be named as twrp.fstab if there is recovery. fstab you can ignore it.
• Edit the partition names and mount points in custom recovery with your stock recovery's fstab. But in most cases the mount points will be shown like this 'mmclbk0p17 for system partition' in that case you need to change custom recovery.fstab with the mount points of your device, to find out mount points of partitions install Diskinfo from play store and enable all options in it which will show complete information regarding each and every partition on your device
• At last double click on 'repackimg.bat' now you'll see 'image-new.img' which is ported custom_recovery.img for your device
• The final step is flashing the recovery. It's easy for rooted users simply use Flashify app to flash. For non-Root users you need to flash it over fastboot mode for this look at this thread.
For mobile version of AIK
You can also port the recovery on-the-go using AIK-Mobile unfortunately to use this needs your device must be rooted with BusyBox (Stephen (stericson) is recommended) installed.
It's a flashable zip but you can extract the zip and place the files manually. Follow below steps for setup:
• Extract the AIK-Mobile.zip
• Paste the AIK-Mobile folder under data/local of extracted zip to /data/local
• Paste files under /bin of extracted zip to /data/local/AIK-Mobile/bin
• Make sure all files including folders are having these permissions "-rwrx-xr-x-".
For placing files, changing permissions and executing scripts 'Explorer' by speed software is recommended.
For porting follow above steps (steps in PC version of AIK) the only difference here is .bat files of PC version will be as .sh in mobile version which are to be executed as root for unpacking and repackaging images.
Note:Follow the instructions properly, don't quote entire OP while asking for help. Due to some touch related drivers missing in kernel of recovery in some devices touch recovery won't work in that case please use Non-Touch recovery. In lollipop or later versions don't flash <3.x.x versions which may result in SD card mounting issues and even flashing errors. First test the recovery that you ported by flash a simple mode (I prefer AIK-Mobile since it doesn't modify the system partition hence there is not chance of bootloop. Also see whether wipe options works properly or not in some devices wiping (even cache) takes ~10m in that case goto settings check the option "use rm -rf instead of formatting".
Hit thanks button instead of posting thanks it'll boost me to create more threads like this.

Read again carefully you have to pack custom recoveries ramdisk with stock split_img and reversing the process will mess up the recovery and then you have to flash the stock recovery. So read the guide carefully step-by-step and follow the process exactly unless you know different working method.

Give it a try it may work. But none of the recoveries that are provided here will work for your device, you need to find Android 7.0 and later recoveries which will be compatible with your chipset model.

TWRP has nothing to do with boot.img. If you are not able to boot to recovery try different key combination. Is you messed up recovery too then flash it via fastboot and then flash the stock Rom.

How to create a pre-rooted stock rom?

Hello,
I have a phone that I would like to root, unfortunately the bootloader is locked. There are some pre-rooted stock roms around that you could flash using fastboot without unlocking the bootloader. Unfortunately the latest version of the firmware is not available in pre-rooted form.
I downloaded the lastest official firmware (an update.zip package) from the website of the manufacturer and installed it on my phone using the stock recovery. Now the only thing that I need to do is modify the system image and flash it back in the phone.
I converted the system.new.dat file that was included inside the zip package into a raw image that I can easily mount and modify from my computer (I use Debian Jessie). How could I modify the system image to include the su binary and a Superuser up (SuperSu, or equivalent) and convert it into a format that I can flash using fastboot?
I'm running Android 6.0.1 with SELinux set to enforce. The device is an Asus Zenfone 2 Laser ZE550KL. I've posted here because the process of modding a stock rom should be almost doable regardless of the phone manufacturer
