How Noticeable is no SD support? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm used to keeping media on my sd card and flashing away, how Noticeable is it for you long term Samsung users?
The main issue I'll have is wiping each time and then having to download everything like music back to the phone...

When you wipe to install a rom it doesn't wipe your storage. That's only when you factory reset.

i transfer music, pictures, videos to my pc via usb cable...its very fast...

You'll need this one.

The transfer speed even on USB 2.0 is insanely fast. I don't miss the microSD card at all... Not that I loaded my phone with stacks of games and movies anyway...

[Q] Unrooted and reflashed multiple times. At a loss....

I restored to stock using
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112555
then rooted it using super one click and then backing up my recovery file and using 3e recovery file...then downloaded rom manager and used that to install bionix rom but same issues I have had since getting my infuse...I will download apps and in the middle of them installing, my phone will reboot and delete random apps...I've unrooted and tried a couple times...so do I just have a bum device? I've moved the apps to phone memory also. They delete also when simply just rebooting my device. It seems over time that it becomes the same apps that delete while others will stay.
I have tried searching but couldn't come up with much. I am going to attempt to unroot and then try it all over again.
EDIT: Finished and it is still removing apps with every reboot...guess the phones going back.
....move problem apps to phone instead of sd.
Is it doing the samething under stock ? And have u tried installing from .apk instead of market?

I move them all right away to the phone memory and when I first got the phone I noticed it was doing it when it was stock also. I read somewhere about a certain number of phones having a problem with the LCD at the very bottom where it looked like txt rolling under old warped glass? It's not noticeable unless your looking for it...but if there was a bad batch of phones maybe this is related?

Here is a suggestion.
Put your phone into mass storage mode and copy/backup everything on your external sd card to your computer.
Unplug usb go to settings>applications>development and disable USB debugging, then plug in USB cable from computer, and select mass storage mode.
Then open "computer or my computer" on your pc and find your external sd card drive icon.
Right click mouse on the icon and select "format"
(be 100% sure that the drive you are formatting is your external sdcard)
After you are sure of that, uncheck the box which says "quick format" leave all other options alone and start the format, when its done formatting
copy all the files you backed up to your external sd card and I am almost certain that after doing this you will have no problems with your external sdcard.
Good luck!

OK so by my name you can see where I came from. I started with the atrix and it sucked , very unhappy with that phone. Went back into my iPhone 4. Then tried the HTC inspire, crashed non stop , very dissapointing. Nothing seemed to measure up and facetime was something I missed big time. Back to my iPhone those phones lasted 4 weeks combined. I have been in this phone for 3 weeks and while I look for.things I was use too some, its overall a better phone for me than iPhone. Like the SMS apps, customization better, the screen being bigger is a huge one. The 8 MPH camera is awesome. Used a pic I took for my website and it looks great. Multiple launchers to give you the feel you want. I get some force closes , but my ios did too. I was jailbroken so I could use my phone to the fullest.
The speed of this phone is great and I am sold on android after this. That's just my thoughts I would say u have a bad unit and give it another shot. I will get the galaxy s2 when it arrives. If the iPhone 5 isnt 4.2" I wont even sniff it, unless there is chocolate on it.

Recover deleted pictures

Is there a way that you are able to recover deleted pictures from our phone when it is connected via USB to a computer?
Sent from my MB865 using XDA
No. sadly, if you deleted pics through your phone they're gone for good. Pics are the one thing that is automatically saved to the sd card. If you have any pics (from the camera) you can find them on your sd card in a folder called "DCIM". Use ES file explorer or your computer to find the folder.

Dropbox is great for this...I'm experimenting with Google+ right now. With what I'm taking pictures of these days, the worst that happens is everyone sees a "problem area" of my hotel that I'm getting maintenance or housekeeping to work on. So far, it's keeping everything private and I'm not having any issues with upload.

yes, it is, just with a proper data recovery software, like Jihosoft Photo Recovery for Mac. Stop using you phone and connect it to computer via USB, start this program, you will be able to recover deleted pictures from your phone with ease.

This is because "deleting" something on an sd card just marks it ok to over-right, but does not break the actual logic gates in the card. this means the data is still there, until something else is put in it's place.

Does anyone else hate this device's usb transfer?

You connect it to the computer and open it, has to load the root, open a folder, has to load the folder, if you copy to a folder and then open a different folder while copying, errors occur... I'm surprised I don't see a lot of complaining about it. What made me want to write this is errors I am having with media transfer.... I haven't had many other Android devices but my last one was much better. Going through the device on my computer was like going through my computer's hard drive.
I prefer to use Airdroid to transfer files. Never was a fan of connecting by usb and now I don't have to. I generally transfer <700 MB so I'm good there. Anything much larger and I'll pull my sdcard in. Only plug in via usb when fiddling with Odin.

nope. ive only sent a few files to my phone but i just right click, send to device and it has been fine. they always just magicaly appeared where i want the files somehow....lol. never really messed around with it
any time i have connected my phone to my computer, it loads and transfers files just as easily as any other phone i have owned. music, video, ROMs , etc... all transfer easy. not super fast, but easy.

I've actually never tried my hand with Kies or Android File Transfer. I figured Airdroid would be a better alternative to AFT since it actually receives updates. I know how Google is, they don't really seem to care for us Mac users too much.

Now that you mention it, having to do all that searching is very irritating. I've been trying to save my pictures off of my devices without the use of dropbox and the entire process is messy.

Making 16gb work (LG G2)

Hey
Firstly, sorry if this is in the wrong place!
I'm seriously looking at the LG G2 as my next phone but keep coming back to the fact I'd be getting the 16gb version and the lack of SD support.
Just wanna get opinions on how easy or impractical things like cloud storage would be.
I'll have access to 4g network when I am out at work, WiFi at home and then whatever is available when out and about.
Got the standard 15gb allowance on Google drive and something like 28gb on drop box, neither of which are currently touched an awful lot.
Data plan will for either 10 or 20gb depending which I go for
First up, how I KNOW I currently use phone (nexus 4 got destroyed so currently sans-mobile)
.snap happy with the photos
.bit of music but not masses of it
.usual assortment of daily apps
.few games often small flash type thing, but sometimes big files
.various kindle books/PDFs etc
How I plan to use it going forward
.streaming music
.putting more music on the device than I would now
.using that camera more
.downloading movies over 4g (faster than my home BB)for viewing on big screen later
.using camcorder more (not some thing I do a lot historically)
.access to movies/TV shows when its quiet at work
Now, the 16gb nexus 4 did me alright but I'm thinking, higher res camera and shooting 1080p/60frames video, downloaded movies etc might shift the landscape a bit
Keeps making me think I'll just get a galaxy S4 for the micro SD but I do think the camera on the g2 is great and I like flashy new processors a lot.
So do you guys think the 16gb internal mixed with cloud services would be alright and effortless enough or just take the hit in CPU/GPU stats and camera and go with the galaxy s4 and a 64gb micro sd
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I'm probably not going to be any help but I currently do all that with my Note 2 and everything works great. I don't know what the stats of the G2 are but I stream all my music and movies from Dropbox. (I have 54gb) I use box for all my pictures and I use drive for all my ebooks/pdfs. Never had any issues with cpu/gpu. Movies get blurry once in a while but that's an issue with my wifi or LTE.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Its just the internal storage I'm questioning.
I've only even used dropbox and the like for very light things, bit never used them day to day or to compensate for a small capacity device so I don't know how well that system works in real world terms.
Like I say, 16gb was fine on the nexus 4, but then with that device I wasn't using 4g to download full movies and such, nor was its video footage as rich.
If its a chore I'll just get the s4 and big micro SD and forget about the beefed up specs on the g2, but if the common opinion is that the cloud system thing works real well I'll stop worrying about the limited internal memory and go order one (the g2)
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
If you rely heavily on the cloud to store most of your content then 16gbs is really a nice amount of space for stuff. I have around 50 apps (that includes a few games) and still have roughly 5gbs left.

And you don't find it a pain in the ass shuffling things on and off of cloud storage?
Anyone know if there is an app that allows me to see all my cloud photos in one place? Like everything on internal storage, Google drive , drop box, skydrive etc from one app?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Hi there, hold tight, i have a solution for you. I've got myself an LG G2 as well, and was first quite sad about the lack of micro sd slot. The mobile connectivity around here is not as good, so cloud storage is not a good idea.
Till i found this: http://www.meenova.com/st/p/m3r.html
It's a tiny micro sd reader, which allow you to expand your phone with any micro sd or micro sdxc up to 64 gb.
There's a short YouTube video showing how it works on G2. Basically it's recognized instantly as an external storage. You can plug it in whenever you need the app or music or whatever else stored in it.

If you like to have multiple backups, OTG is recommended indeed as stated above. Can also keep one compress backup on your phone for emergency, and place the rest on cloud.
Switch out your music for those music apps...tmobiel mobile freedom = no data penalty.
Photo on cloud. clear out download folders....should keep you good.

It basically is the missing micro SD card option in the phone. Whatever you could do with it in the phone, you can do with it outside the phone.
