Hello, everyone!
My dad has an E3 LTE (D2203) with locked bootloader.
I checked on the Sony dev site, followed all the instructions and unfortunately it says "Allow bootloader unlock: NO" :crying:
My question is if I can use the Flashtool to flash an official ROM without unlocking the bootloader.
I have the official ROM packed as a FTF file and I'm not sure whether it's 100% to proceed with flashing it or not.
I've read on some page that it might soft-brick the device if the BL is locked, EVEN IF the firmware is an official one.
Has anyone tried this already?
Thank you in advance for all your answers/suggestion :good:
It is perfectly safe to flash from Flashtool as long as the ftf is proper and you do it the right way.
@atomicr Thank you but could you please tell me what "do it the right way" implies? Thank you in advance.
Follow procedure in this post till step 7.

Hello again D:<
Another question (u_u. I've never had a Xperia smartphone before, so :c).
I don't know about how install the Generic Xperia M2 4.4.2 Firmware, well, I know something, like use Flashtool for mount the FTF file into the phone. But, about the TA Backup?.
I'm kinda unpredictable, so, summarizing everything... Could you please give a tutorial about those steps that I must follow to install the 4.4.2 Generic Firmware for Xperia D2306?
Thanks for everything.
Regards!

Thanks, so, I suppose will work fine the TA Backup from that link. I'll check it.
But, my Info Service from Bootloader allow or not says this: "Bootloader unlock allowed: No", so basing on that assumption, I don't think that Bootloader can be unlocked. So, I have the question about is it extremely necessary has the bootloader unlocked for flash the 4.4.2 Generic KitKat D2306 Model with Flashtool :c.
Thanks
You can flash ftf with locked bootloader.

But be careful, they only did kernel to D2303/D2305.

But, the kernel is only used for people who use ClockWorkMod Recovery for install ROM or Root with Unlocked Bootloader. I don't try to install ROM (CyanogenMod, that is based on D2303 model), neither Root with Unlocked Bootloader ('Cause I can't unlock bootloader). I'm gonna use Flashtool, and other comments says nothing about Kernel and ClockWorkMod Recovery.
Thanks either way :3.
I'm sick off my Stock ROM so now i want to flash custom lollipop rom.
I have installed required S1 bootloader version which is xx.x.J.2.16 something. From the thread that i downloaded and installed the Firewall .tft file was making me sure that this will turn the Unlock Bootloader Allowed : Yes and i can continues steps on sony's official site to unlock bootloader.
I haved checked and verified that firewall is properly installed but still Unlock Bootloader Allowed is NO
I should i do? I have tried connecting phone in fastboot but no luck.
Please Help Me.

Hello,
Excuse me for asking such question but I have never Boot Unlocked & Rooted any Sony smartphone so I'm confused here. I have only rooted LG and Samsung before without Unlocking the Boot as it was straight forward process. I have found this tutorial and everything is fine as I have got "Bootloader unlock allowed" in service information which confirms that I can root my Xperia. However when I visit the official website to get my unlock key it says that I need to be on software version 18.3.C.0.37 where my one is 18.6.A.0.175. Do I just use this official website to generate the unlock key and then use the flashtool to do it anyway ? I have use flashtool before but just for flashing the TFT file. Also after I unlock the bootloader how do I install custom recovery mode then install or back up the whole OS ?
If someone would help me I will appreciate your help. :good:
Thank You.
Ok, so right now you don't need to unlock bootloader to root M2 with 5.1.1. (At least not on 2306). Anyway, when you go to official website, they ask for your imei (after selecting your device). And then they give you the unlock code, they tell you how to unlock the BL with such code, with some SDK tools, but i prefer using flashtool since it does the job for me. So, after you open up flashtool, click on the icon that sais "BLU", it will ask you to select your device, you do so. After that it will ask for the unlock code, you put it in and click on unlock. After that it will do a procces, when finished, your BL will be unlocked.
I do gotta tell you, i've unlocked BL for 2 or 3 devices, all of the times everything goes right, exept once. After unlocking BL i ended with a bootloop. So for this case just turn off the phone, and flash any ftf. Bootloader will not re-lock after flashing.

Ok, thanks !
Also why do they say I need a software version 18.3.C.0.37 ? Could it be that their SDK tools require such version where Flashtool works on all of them ? Do you know how I can install custom recovery ? Do I still use CWM Recovery or something new and how can I flash new rom into it ? I have also heard something about emma when flashing rom ?
Thanks a lot for the help, I really appreciate it :good:

Sure no problem, about that i'm not sure, i've never had that android version issue before. For CWM you can get it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/general/d2303-philz-touch-recovery-6-t3047492
Go to where it says "Download recovery" and download latest version (V0.7). Of course you have to be rooted in order to install. After you have root, enable usb debuging on your phone, and enable unkown sources just to be sure. Open the install.bat inside the file you just downloaded and follow the steps.
After you have CWM you can flash roms and other stuff.
Hi all!
I have my Xperia M2 with the latest firmware: 18.6.A.0.182.
I want to root it, and install a custom recovery, and i know how to do all of this through this forum. But I need to unloock my bootloader.
What's the problem?
If you go here: (i can not post links, the developer sony / unlockbootloader) and warns you:
Important note! In order to unlock your Xperia™ M2 you need to be on software version 18.3.C.0.37. Also beware that booting this device the first time after unlocking the boot loader may take a long time.

I don't know why this...
Searching in google, the people recomends to use flashtool to unlock the bootloader.
What will happen if i intend to unlock it and something goes wrong? I don't know how to solve a soft-brick withouth an unlocked bootloader.
Thanks for your help.
Hey, first do it the official sony way flashtools doesn't work for many including me when i unlocked my bootloader. http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/
Second if anything goes wrong, just reflash your firmware (jellybean, kitkat, lollipop whatever) through flashtools and it will be back to stock.
Unlocking your bootloader there is not much which can go wrong.
Btw, you will lose your DRM keys. 2 of them i think for buying stuff through ps store.
Also if you run into problems post here we'll help.
Now I have root with KingRoot. If I make a backup of TA partition i can restore DRM keys when I like it, no?
And the magic question for me is: How I flash original firmwares if the bootloader is locked? I only need locate the right FTF and with flashtool is enought?
Thank you!

Yes you can restore your DRM keys backup if you want in the future.
And if you want to flash a FTF on locked bootloader you can use Flashtool by Androxyde or Xperia Companion.
Ok, thank you all, I'll try to backup DRM keys and unlook the bootloader and I'll post the results!

I have the same problem. I think you can't install any firmware without the bootloader unlocked.

you can unlock the bootloader on latest version, you don't need to be on 0.37 firmware.
edit: but if you want to install anyway i uploaded it to my drive:

Thanks very much. I also have a Singapore version of the ROM. On the Sony bootloader unlocking page it says "Important note! In order to unlock your Xperia™ M2 you need to be on software version 18.3.C.0.37". I haven't attempted to go ahead with it anyway.
Do you have drivers that work? I can't get any PC nor FlashTool to recognise the M2! (FlashTool doesn't include M2 drivers.) Do you know how I could install the ROM? I want to do so anyway regardless of unlocking the bootloader because I gather the Android 4.4 ROM is faster than the laggy 5.1.1 one currently installed on my M2.

no problem. if i remember correctly the bootloader unlock page was last updated on late 2014 so that note targeted people who used 4.3 jelly bean at the time. you can unlock bootloader on 0.182.
flashtool includes m2 drivers, you need to install Fastboot and Flashmode drivers. also if you are using Windows 8 and above, you need to disable driver signature check (google it). to install stock roms, this device's forum has plenty of guides. do a little research )
also you don't need to unlock your bootloader to install stock and stock based roms (such as Z5 Style, EagleExperience etc.). if you want to install custom roms (Lineage, RR, etc.) you need to unlock bootloader.

Thanks again for the info. I did install Fastboot and Flashmode drivers as per the tutorial on this site I was following, but FlashTool didn't recognise the M2 on Windows XP nor 7 let alone 10 (I have a lot of old PCs!). I'll try a different USB cable.

oh that's unfortunate, i'll install flashtool today and report back to you. maybe recent versions of flashtool broke compatibility with m2 (if so, i'll also upload the version that is compatible with m2)
edit: flashtool 0.9.26 detects my phone without a problem
