I tried it and got temporary root on my Verizon Note Edge. I know it is temporary but at least it is root.
I do not have the developer version btw..

Kitkat is the only way for locked Samsung Note edges.
I wish I had read up on this phone first, not having root sucks, it's my damn phone. I'm not renting it or leasing so wtf. I also wish I had been learning this **** myself on all the other phones I had because there don't seem to be many people wit it or working on it. The s6 and edge variant were to close to coming out for this phone to really take off. I just liked this more than the s6's.
Service menu
Hi I am new to this forum but have been reading it for a while. Has anybody tried to enable hidden menus or service menu with the temporary root? Thank you, I will also try now.
Root Via stagefright
Hi all,
After a long time reading XDA forums I finally have an itch to post. Being thoroughly disappointed in the lock down of Verizon phones preventing root Ive heavily considered ditching Verizon and my UDP until Today!!
I've been reading up on the stagefright exploit and got to thinking how this could be used for good rather than bad. If this exploit allows the attacker to gain access to modify system files it would seem they have achieved root. Is it possible to use this exploit to get root to the Verizon customers with locked down phones?
Thanks in advance
I have done everything on every post telling me to downgrade from lollipop to 4.4.4 but no avail Downloaded firmware for my Verizon Variant at SamMobile, and both failed in Odin....What the powers that be do not tell you is that the exploit was patched in the lollipop update from 5.0.1 to 5.0.1 and it was pushed to most phones last month and some installed automatically and some deferred hut t he notifications kept coming and forced you to install at a certain point I deferred for 2 weeks and finally it installed ....So note to all other VZW edge users...The exploit they were using to gain root has been closed since the newest update....

Hello all and thanks in advance for your help. I just purchased a Nexus 5 on Sprint YIPPE. My main purpose for posting here is to see what is the best option for me. I want to stay as close to stock as possible. I am looking to get tether access on my phone, without being to invasive. I tried foxfi and could not get it to work on an unrooted phone. I also want to be able to get updates to KitKat when they are released. I am guessing that I just need to root, but do not have to unlock the bootloader?
You cannot root without unlocking bootloader. Go to general and read stickies. There is a root thread and an ota thread. All you need to know is there
Edit > this is already in general. Please post questions in the q&a forum

unlock bootloader, root and then in superSU make sure to check survival mode. Keep everything stock if you want to get updates, but keep in mind OTA may not work, you may have to manually install updates. You can read more on that in this forum.
Just read some posts in the towelroot forum, and I had some questions - but first, a little about me:
I'm coming from an HTC Evo 4g LTE (Sprint) and I just switched to Ting (uses all Sprint towers & devices, just an a-la-carte payment plan as opposed to monthly)
Anywho, all this Knox business (and acquiring root for the S5) is new to me (but I am no newbie when it comes to root, just my first time owning a Samsung device.) I havent even had this phone for 24 hours yet.
Just wanted to know what build/kernel/Android version you were on when you attempted towelroot?
I am on Android 4.4.2 - Build: KOT49H.G900PVPU1AND2
I did not install the System OR Software Update that is in my notification list after activation. (Pretty much same rules were for the HTC Evo 4G LTE, it would update the bootloader to a version that was considered "unmoddable" at the time) and for that phone it was also called "S-OFF" (S stood for Security) - Im guessing Knox is somewhat similar...?
Also, what is the preferred root method for the G900P? I only know of towelroot and CF-Auto-Root (sp?) - I know Chainfire makes apps specifically for Samsung devices, but read an old post on another site that CF's method will "trip" Knox... is that still accurate?
Just wanted to be 100% confident in what I'm doing, before I attempt anything. (Again, I have a lot of experience in HTC devices; not so much with Samsung) :/
Any help regarding my device and acquiring root without "tripping" Knox is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance! - zmag

To add to this I just purchased a S5 coming after an S1 and S3.
I am wondering if I have to worry about any updates on sprint locking me out. My S3 is on Verizon and luckily I rooted it before they came out with the update that locked it out. Can I go to the newest version that my phone wants to update me to without any fears of being locked out in the future?

Currently for the Sprint 900P (not the 860 Sport) NE5 is the latest build and I have not heard of anything being patched to not allow root.
However, it is best practice to always wait on taking any new Sprint updates until the devs have time to look into it and make sure root is still possible. There is no way for anyone to know what Sprint/Samsung/Google will patch in future updates. It usually only takes the dev community about a day or so to confirm whether existing root methods will still work.
Hi i am new to the droid community got this fone as a gift from a bufdy of mines, got tonrun it on metro pcs network was really to setup. Anyways i update to ota with out doin no reaseach seems like i am stuck with 4.4.4 my question is there a way to root xt10180 non dev or temp root??? Can someone guide me the rite direction thank u
P.s if this is not the rite place pls move post t.y
Considering there is other sections more appropriate than the "Dev" sections for a question or concern, this would certainly not be the right place to ask.
But to answer your question, no. If your BL(bootloader) is locked, you have OEM/Stock recovery, and are on 4.4.4 you are screwed. It appears the Ultra is no longer being supported by anyone capable of finding a method to root. However, you can PAY for a BL unlock code, but it apparently has not been successful for everyone so I personally havent tried and would not pay the premium and possibly get nothing in return. At 4.4.4, you are unable to downgrade to older versions capable of root. Unless someone releases a method of bypassing the stock restrictions - you may have to wait until the next update. Only problem with that is the day after you update, if you choose to, someone may release a tool or method to bypass those security measures. However, if you dont update immediately you may possibly miss the window of opportunity to use a crack-able version of an OTA and wind up being stuck with too new of a version (I am not 100% sure on this last statement, as its been awhile since I was fully involved in the dev world). Hope this answered your question.
Yeah know I am stuck on this version. N I also won't pay for no bl that's not going to work. If someone do come out with a crack version I am willing to donate. I miss been root man. I hope someone do come out with a way to bypass this restrictions. I know they are a lot of smart ppl out there, that can help us noobs lol.

Q&A for [BOOTLOADER][SCH-I705] VZW Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 LTE bootloader UNLOCKED!

Halp! No wifi on SCH-i705
The Jelly Bean firmware disabled my wifi. Also, the paths for the terminal emulator are wrong. I’ve (unfortunately) turned my tablet into a network disabled ebook-reader (since all network connectivity is GONE!)
Sigh. It was old anyway.
Not *quite* a brick . . . not quite a tablet.
Is there any new support for the verizon Tab2 7?
[BOOTLOADER][SCH-I705] VZW Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 LTE bootloader UNLOCKED!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942674
Do not use
VZW obviously scrambled the partition layout so these would brick if you messed with the bootloader or Recovery partition. If you have an SCH-i705 on ANY version ...just root it and be happy with that. Now I have to find a way to ForceFeed the mmcblk0 in this thing. Im sure there is a way I wish there were some actual "Hardware Oriented" guys on here who know how to JTAG thos thing or hook the mmc up via a USB Dead Device ROM Programing Module if there is such a thing... i know they have them for just about every other device... (I know thats not what theyre called lol... ) Anybody have any luuch after the (dd if=/extSdCard/filename.ext of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5) command that Kills this thing when installing the Insecure Bootloader? Because the file here must be corrupt. I did a Backup too... but what good is that if I cant get into ODIN?? lol Crap.

sprint note edge root?
sorry i have been searching everywere to find a root for the note edge. I recently moved from verizon to sprint for the unlimited data. i was using over 30gigs a month and getting raped by verizon. I build the upgrades on cell towers for pretty much all the carriers and have been doing the rv way of life due to them moving us around like crazy. I got the sprint note edge a few days ago and really want to be able to use wifi without all the extra charges and using there hot spot. ive rooted in the past with the droid phones when i had unlimited data with verizon ( i got screwed out of that too) can someone please help me? is there a root file out there for the new 5.1.1 update that i can use odin to flash? if so does anyone have any good ideas on a hotspot app i can use? (its been quite a while since ive used one)
Thanks in advance for any info.
About to flash
Love my note edge also....I am a girl and cant wit to be able to use different roms..mostly for themeimg
Yea, custom roms and note edge arent really a good subject around here... There is NO dev support, and the carriers want us to forget about it.
As far as root goes, lemme try the old style root tonight, I'll get back to you... I been dying to reroot and hotspot again.

Give me a holler if you get it rooted.. I tried it all and there is none. A custom kernel is needed and Samsung has yet to release the kernel source code... SO... Don't hold your breathe brother.
Well, with all the problems I'm having with 5.1, I'm half tempted to go back to 4.4.4, but... Dropping phone calls sucks. I might just go back to my note 3, I'm really leaning that way lately
