[Q] U.S. SCH-I535 Verizon 4.4.2 Bootloader Unlock Question - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Let me first start by saying. I'm sure alot of people will find this annoying but after searching countless forums on various sites all across the web I can't find a definitive answer. Has the Verizon Wireless SCH-I535 4.4.2 I535OYUDNE1 3.4.0 Kernal Bootloader been unlocked? Most posts I see are several months old and some people say no one cares and there will never be an unlock, others claim it's in the works, some claim it has been done but I can't find a link or posting stating without a doubt it has been done and how to do it. So my question to recap is ( Has the locked bootloader successfully been unlocked? If so where can I find the instructions on how to do so?) I did successfully manage to root and grant SuperSU but then wound up getting the ! Yellow triangle of death and had to re-flash stock. I have a great deal of stupidity when it comes to newer tech but have thus far enjoyed tinkering and feeling around in the dark to learn. After all "Discovery requires experimentation." Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out. Or just give me a straight and certain answer.

Straight and simple answer - no, it has not been unlocked and likely never will be unlocked.

Balls! That sucks. Damn Verizon. Should've guessed as much. What did I expect? So many people praise them but I get ******* service everywhere I go. And I live in a major US city. Thanks for your reply though. I'll stop holding my breath. I do have one last question. I've seen posts of people flashing CM11-12 on the SCH-I535 does that include the Verizon 4.4.2 or not? I assume it doesn't but in the off chance it does would you provide a link to the relevant manual? Thanks again.

If they are on CM there bootloaders are unlocked. And no that does not include those who took the OTA to 4.4.2

Updating Captivate to Android 2.2 while rooted.

We all know the Captivate is getting its official 2.2 update in a few months.
My question is, since I rooted my Captivate, will I have to do anything special to update? Or, will I just be able to manually check for updates and It will install automatically from there?

Yes seriously. This is my first personal Android phone.
I would LOVE to see you come into the car audio world and do what I do.
i want to know too, so yea seriously
What a jerk
I don't know if you can update under settings or not, but if you are rooted I would wait for an official CM6 mod. I would think it would another month or two before that comes out.

When we flashed an old ROM on my buddy's G1 and rooted it, we didn't update the phone... he downloaded an OTA update and it flashed the new version to his phone successfully and removed root access. Had to do it all over again
I'm guessing the Captivate will be much the same, however if you are concerned you can always unroot the phone when AT&T/Samsung/Your favorite tech blog let you know OTA updates are being pushed to the Captivate.

I was actually wondering if he was serious. Been so many topics with this discussed in them. Didn't know if he was serious or playing around.
To the OP, I don't know jack bout android, contrary to what you think, but I do read, read and read some more. I had my first fuze for about three months before I got another to start playing with. Before I even got the phone I was reading up on it and learning. So I read and learned winmo for about 6 months before I got on to flashing.
I've been reading about android for the past couple months, been reading bout the captivate for the past week. I must say, about 25% of the topics I read talked about froyo, and at least 4 outa 5 times, someone asked this question. Not to mention all the threads that started with this same question.
So maybe I wrote too fast with my response, but really in my head I was curious if he was serious. This place used to make people have an account for so long before posting, and even longer before you could start a thread. It was for the spammers, but used to make people read. Not sure if thats still in effect, but it sure doesn't seem like it. Look at the guys whove been here for 1, 2, 3 years even and have less than fifty posts, what do you they are doing?

Ok really an OTA update for a phone should be no different from a Bios Flash on a PC, as the BIOs flash rewrites primary data to default settings so should the OTA update flash. So when 2.2 froyo flashes the OTA update it should in fact rewrite the phone rom to a default state and return the phone to all stock unrooted settings and return all bloat ware.

Good story....so how much space did you just waste? I'm sure everyone is thankful for your input, I read the forums everyday and have yet to see a definitive answer on weather or not we'll get OTA updates after we fiddle with our phones. My Nexus could not, I assume the Captivate can't either. I guess we'll have to flash back to stock to receive carrier updates. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.....cus that was the point of this thread right?

LOL Obviously you are not following your own advice under a year with over 150 posts!!! LOL Maybe you should do more reading and less posturing?
I am guilty as well of asking a ton of questions ans starting threads moat of which are answered without the lecture....,,,,Every forum has the self appointed "Forum Police" Apparently now even some have have "cadets in training"
Guys, FROYO (2.2) hasn't been released officially for our Captivates! But no, if you're talking about OTA updates then no, they will not work on our rooted Captivates well. Sometimes you may be able to register an update but it will fail if you are rooted but for MOST captivates it won't even get that far.
Personally, OTA updates are really unreliable so I'd either wait for someone on the dev section to grab it and make it usable for Odin, since that's easier for me and I can reinstall the software if something bad happens.
And no, a new firmware/ROM for our phones isn't like a BIOS update. I'm not sure how the process goes in depth but I'm pretty sure it just installs over the existing software and (if required) changes some settings deep in the phone's bootloader if necessary. Obviously a 2.2 or any other OS upgrade would mean the phone wipes the device first, which is one reason why OTA would not work.
Hope I answered everything?

Taking longer to root?

Anyone think it is taking longer to root the US Sensation than other phones?
That is quite a pointless thread my friend, seeing as HTC have looked the bootloaders they can't be rooted until HTC send out the update to unlock them (which can be whenever they feel like it)
Wow. Just... wow.
Hasn't every other phone had the bootloader unlocked via the community?

No. There are many phones that are still locked to this day. AS discussed in at least 2 dozen other threads in this exact same sub-forum, an unlock is coming from HTC. Watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmvCpR45LKA
That video, whilst funny the first time, is a bit harsh. OK, tell someone to use search but there are nicer ways than that!! And seeing as you're on 207 posts to the OPs 1500+ kinda makes you the n00b

Thank you.... I am a veteran of this forum and am pretty versed in Android. I was simply confused on the status of the phone. Unfortunately, in forums like these, you can't always get the answer easily in a 100+ page thread.
Quick answer we shouldn't be waiting a lot longer as HTC are going to OTA us with unlocked bootloaders but as to when your guess is as good as mine

[Q] Any work being done for the People on 3.18 with S-locked

Hey all, I came from Samsung Skyrocket- just switched to HTC One X ... and I immediately looked for the JB 4.1.1. I downloaded and installed it. I'm not new to rooting, but did not take the time to read up on the version. The same day I upgraded I quickly found out that it was a big mistake. I was just wondering is there anyone out there working on a root for AT&T 3.18. I read a lot of posts and some speculate there are people somewhere but does anyone know for certain. I love all you Devs on XDA and your dedication. Thanks for reading
I'm sure someone is working on it. There just isn't a thinkthank thread. You should go make one!

Well, being that the official JB was released just a few days ago, I doubt it. Just like when a brand new iOS comes to an apple device, it takes time to find the exploits and stuff. If you came from the skyrocket, I would imagine, you would have checked XDA first, before looking into any official sites. That's what I do. Just in case I don't lose my root. When it comes to rooting, you HAVE to take the time to read. Especially with the HTC, it's a multi-step process. With the bootloader unlocking, geting SuperCID, rooting, getting your adb/fastboot working. Just have to be patient. But it is all worth it. I am sure many of the other HTC users in this forum would agree.

3.18 started rolling out nearly a month ago (approx. March 7). And the OP is asking whether anyone is working on it, not whether an exploit has already been found. So the only way this would be answered conclusively, is if a dev (or devs) responded positively, that they are indeed actively working on it.

Thanks for the correction. Mis-read it using the app. And it has been that long? It felt like only a few days about the JB update. I would imagine, some devs may be working on it, but as you said, no one knows for sure until a dev responds.

Yup, its been at least that long. This thread was posted on March 7, but the first reports of it rolling out starting getting posted on March 6, if I remember correctly.
The RUU was posted later on, maybe 2 weeks ago, or a little less.

Ah, then that is probably what I am referring to. Anywho, I would imagine a dev would post here first (the forum, not this thread), as these forums are pretty darn popular. But, it never hurts to Google.
Thank for the information fellas... I should have been a little more patient and a little less gung-ho. I was really shooting for someone to say..."I'm working on that right now" but that's ok. I'll just have to wait like the rest of the hundreds if not thousands that were like me. This update is a little jumpy... meaning it freezes up from time to time and reboots every now and then. Not all that smooth because of the bloatware I imagine...Thanks again for the reply's

You generally almost never see those kinds of posts unless the dev has at least an alpha working or needs testers. The reason being, obviously, is because the moment anyone gets identified as working on the exploit, they get bombarded with nonstop "Are we there yet" posts and PMs.

Very true. And I'm guessing they probably don't want to get hopes up about something that might not even happen.
Devs often don't say anything unless they think they have it. Some of the exploits for our device have come practically out of nowhere. I remember the original bootloader unlock method (CID spoof), the dev just came on here and posted the method, and was like "sh1t, I didn't even know there was a bounty, thanks for the money!" lol

Yeah that's understandable, you are correct. I remember when I rooted my skyrocket people were always after the devs...time? How far along messages would popup everywhere. As you can see I've been a member since I got my skyrocket and have never posted once. I always found everything by reading everything. I got use to the speed of my Skyrocket, now I have this HOX as it is referred to here. With the stock it's pretty close to the speed of the skyrocket. But, I know it can be a lot faster with the root and less bloatware. Thanks again guys for the reply's

Moved to Q&A.
Let's not be fooled here one of two things are happening. Either it is a trick to get followers or they mistakenly "downgraded" a 4.3 rom that already had the insecure boot loader and are trying to figure out why it won't work again. There is no reason why the haven't put up the links already. I'm betting its a trick but who knows? Deep down inside I hope they figured something out.

MobileTechVideos is a very renown website and Josh Groce is a very respected developer. He wouldn't try to "trick" anyone to believe something like this isn't true. Also, there is a reason he wouldn't put up any links because this wouldn't be something that can be done on the software level. It's most likely a hardware mod and requires JTAG.
Could he have been mistaken and jumped the gun on this announcement? Possibly. However it wouldn't be something as simple as not realizing the phone already had an insecure bootloader. He knows what he is doing.
To get a taste of the stuff he does check out some of his youtube videos. Here's an example:

I retract my last post. I took a look down in his Facebook posts and he accidentally found a way to downgrade. So call me crazy but you don't accidentally stumble across a fix like this if it requires a hardware mod and I thought jtag was proven to not work because of the efuse or qfuse or whatever its called. From the "feel" of his post he did a repair he has done before that works with both the 4.1.2 and 4.3 boot loader and didn't realize he mixed the two up until the customer told him he was on 4.3 before sending it in. I'll be the first to admit I know nothing about bootloaders and there operation. Perhaps he bypased the fuse by removing and programing the chip directly and that is his normal repair operation instead of jtag and that is why it worked? No matter what it is I am happy he figured it out and hope he gets a lot of business out of it. Sorry for my ramble I probably didn't need to post all of that but its done and I don't feel like deleting it.

Question about root and G930V/G930VL

So, I finally laid down the fat stack for an S7, and I went with Straight Talk because I'm not big on contracts. I was itching to throw a rom on it right away, but it looks like there is only one that may be compatible. I'd settle for root though and went about my research. Eventually, I settled on trying to follow this thread, as it seems to apply to pretty much any variant.
Now, my question is, if I were to follow this method and successfully obtain root, I know my phone will show up as a G930V, but will I still be able to use my Straight Talk service on it? Also, any other information pertaining to my situation would be much appreciated, in terms of root and any roms. I know most people say it's overrated nowadays, and mostly unnecessary, but I want to tinker and I like having complete freedom over my device.
Sorry if this has been posted before, but after many hours, I'm still a bit lost in the web of information. Two variants, and multiple carriers, two different boards, MM/Nougat, etc, etc. I'd just like a bit of clarification, thanks a ton!
EDIT
It would seem this thread is what I need to follow to obtain root. I'm still open to any thoughts or suggestions, but I guess my main question is will my Straight Talk account still work if I use this method?
Or would I be better off following this tutorial?
Thanks again!
Nothing huh, nobody knows, or even has an idea?
Hmm.
