Today I read the news about the new S5 root. It's called Towelroot. I tried it on my D801 and it worked. I had not been able to root it before that without rolling it back to 4.2.2. Which is a pain.
So now you can root a T-Mobile D801 on 4.4.2 KitKat very easily. Which wasn't possible before with ioroot.

Meaning it'll root any G2 made. Not just the 801.
Install TowelRoot from here: http://towelroot.com/
Then install AutoRec from here for TWRP recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496
Then if your staying stock I highly recommend you download and install SuperSU in recovery so that it's properly rooted. http://download.chainfire.eu/282/SuperSU/
More about TowelRoot: http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...ve-and-maybe-almost-any-other-current-device/
Thanks all. And of course I'm not responsible if this breaks the device or kills the cat. Use at your own risk.
Great news. Thanks for the info
This is awesome
Thank you so much. Just rooted my LG G2 in less than a minute!!!
Any idea if this will work for the D802. Never rooted before. Running stock as shown below.

everything BUT the 801 unless you roll back to stock 4.2.2 JB. plus, there is no computer involved here...its a simple app.
OP, I was NOT able to get this to work for some reason....I rolled back to 4.2.2 stock, updated via OTA to 4.4.2, tried Towelroot app with no success.
were there any special instructions you did? or is this more of a temporary root? I didn't have SU installed after the reboot, and a Flashify Recovery Flash failed (it worked before on 4.2.2 for me)
Edit: apparently Flashify was the cause...downloaded AutoRec and all is well. thanks OP!
FWIW, this method also worked for my G-Pad 8.3 from Verizon.
Did anybody get their sd card wipedwith this method or did everything stay intact

No wipe installed root fine.
Please help my D801 display is not working when coming out of sleep
So I just picked up a used D801 T-mobile on 4.4.2.
Took the following steps
Installed TowelRoot
Installed AutoRec
Downloaded CloudyStock
Ran TowelRoot including reboot (no indication of error)
Ran AutoRec and rebooted into TWRP (no indication of error)
In TWRP wiped and installed CloudyStock
Rebooted
Everything looked fine, but once I put the phone to sleep or if it goes to sleep automatically, when I try to wake the device all I get on the screen are white lines.
If I hold down the power button and reboot, the phone will reboot work with no issues, but once it goes to sleep the same thing happens again.
Please help!

Download cloudyfa jdi kernel for ur device should fix that
Sent from my LG-D801 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm a stock user but I believe that has something to do with autorec from what I remember reading. Look on the T-Mobile G2 for for help. I believe there is a fix for that...
Thanks!
Just flashed and it works now.

Yeah the white lines are from the kernel. It happens on nexus devices if you use a cm kernel on an aosp ROM and vice versa.
Thanks for helping in here guys while I was at work.

Well that's a problem I had too. So I installed twrp with autorec and installed SuperSU via recovery.
You'll have to do it that way if you want to update it. It'll be rooted like it is without updating it but I'd do the twrp method.
Guys be careful when trying the new nightly, I cannot revert back to stock, won't let me fastboot flash any firmware.. Now I'm stuck on Cyanogenmod

I think you cant revert to lower android versions right now because of changed partitions oder something like that... im not sure whats the problem! restore with cwm should help but it's a temporal fix

Yes your still correct, I was on Moto GPE 4.4.4
Downloaded and flashed CM11 4.4.4

I tried downgrading my Moto G Xt1033 from GPE 4.4.4 to Motorola stock 4.4.2 and the phone is stuck at "Bootloader unlocked screen" need :crying:
Well I had the same problem just one day ago and it's a bit tough. The good thing is that you can fix and install a custom rom (I chose PA 4.42 btw) when you try. The bad thing is that you can't downgrade to 4.4.2 or 4.4.3 right now. But read for urself
I guess the reason is that the partition layout has changed with 4.4.4
I hope I did help you a little bit,

Well i somehow got my phone to work.
Formated Data and Data/Media on Philz Recovery and flashed using 4.4.4 GPT.BIN from XT1033 i found on XDA and it booted UP. But i am running a Single Sim Rom over my phone.
Did you flash stock rom or custom? I'm asking coz currently I got stock to work too folliwing a guide here in xda (same method as yours)

http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=856923
i have motorola moto g indian dual sim version XT1033
i already updated 4.4.4 through OTA
then i rooted and unlock bootloader and install custom roms like crdroid n5 experience
but i am not satisifed with custom rom (bugs sometime stuck poor camera quality etc..)
so i decided go back to stock rom
i already have 4.4.2 firmware zip file
i nstalled firrmware through mfastbot v2
but get error something like this
Ready to flash signed images!
OK: (time)
I do fastboot flash partition gpt.bin and I get:
Preflash validation failed!
SST lock failure!
pls anyone help me
or anyone upload 4.4.4 retail dualsim firmware or download link
Downgrade is always very dangerous. You can brick the phone easily.
You could try this:
XT1033_RETAIL-BR-DS_4.4.4_KXB21.14-L1.40_38_cid12_CFC_1FF_SVC.xml.zip
It's Brazilian Retail Global GSM Dual-SIM 4.4.4 firmware, so should work for you through fastboot.
Thanks dlink

The first command will fail if you are downgrading...it is supposed to fail...don't worry...just ignore it and skip it and continue with the other commands...

The procedure for 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 is the same for all models...All you have to do is flash the updated recovery and the SuperSU zip

Worked like a charm
Hi guys !
I saw that the LG G3 bootloader was unlocked ! It is possible to install TWRP recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-...mp-unlock-lg-g3-twrp-d852-d852g-f400-t2900614
Is it possible that the same was born on our G PRO 2 ??
It would be nice
wow
Someone really needs to look into this i wish i had the knowhow and id do it myself, think its safe to try on the D838? I assume not but still Im half tempted although is it worth the risk.
Tried to install tht using the same method but whn i tried to reboot it gets into fastboot mode after the factory reset screen.
