Hi! This is my first post, until now I have found everything I needed but now I'm stuck, hope you guys can help me.
After rooting & unlocking my Sprint LG G Flex 2 I wanted to change the "GSM" Icon on top, I followed some instructions for the G3 (changing build.prop to ro.build.target_operator=global)but the phone constantly showed "... com.android.phone has stopped" but I noticed that with this the "Tethering & Networks" showed up! Until now the "Tethering & Networks" have never showed up. I've never activated the phone with Sprint, I don't know if it has to do anything with it. I use the phone outside the US, and everything works excellent. When I revert the changes to build.prop it goes back to not showing the Hotspot option. Attached are some screenshots of this.
How do I activate the Hotspot permanently? Thank you!

Bought a brand new unlocked Moto Defy and I'm having some WiFi and data connection issues...
To start things off, I cannot get any kind of data on this phone. I'm able to make/receive calls and texts with no problem but when it comes to accessing data, it's a total fail. I've added APN's for ATT (ATT MMS, ATT PHONE, AT&T PTA), switched the 2G/3G/auto under Mobile Network Settings, and I just can't seem to get data working. I get data just fine on my At&t Samsung Focus with WP7.
Secondly, I cannot connect to my WiFi router. I've reset the router numerous times, disabled WPA security, tried different security methods, and it just doesn't want to connect. The network occasionally shows up with great signal strength but soon after disappears. I went to the same room as the router and it shows up. When I tap on it to connect, it shows "connecting" and then "disconnected". I also get a WiFi symbol in the upper left hand corner with a question mark over it.
And to top things off, I can't seem to format my WP7 memory card so I can't even install any apk's or ROMs. For some reason, the 2GB card that supposed to come with this phone wasn't even in the box!
Any ideas? Starting to get frustrated, this is my first android phone (3rd android device, first 2 were tablets) so I'm eager to mess with this thing.
Uploading a short video showing the WiFi problem.
Thank you so much!
Also, running 2.2.2

So I've installed Cyanogenmod 7 and was able to get to the band settings but when I select USA Band, it says "Set [USA Band] Unsuccessful.
I found a working bp_nvm_default folder for ATT, replaced original with that, set permissions, and nothing has changed.
I am at a loss of what to do now. And after installing CM7, I have no signal what so ever.
Please!!!! Any ideas?!?!?
Hi guys. This started with me having unfix-able, horrible wifi at my house leading me to look for a good mobile data plan where I can just hotspot (or tether) 4g off my SGH-1337 Galaxy s4 onto my desktop.
I got this phone in America (April 2014) on AT&T and then moved back to Australia (Late 2014). I unlocked it successfully and legitimately and it has been fine ever since using the provider Optus.
I found a decent plan with lots of data then went to check if my hotspot worked only to find it doesn't work and after some research I found out AT&T do something to restrict it after being unlocked; which I find to be ridiculous, why do they do this? When I pressed turn on hotspot it would say in small text at the bottom of the screen "mobile data is not available or invalid sim".
I then found a solution using Titanium backup but needed to root my phone first. After figuring that out (took about 4 different applications) using TowelRoot, I got Titanium backup and I backed up and uninstalled these two apps that apparently are the ones that cause this restriction. They are "Tetheringautomation 1.0.1." and "TetheringProvision 4.06.70". After doing this, hotspot worked for a few seconds then it turns off and displays this new error message: "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped." with a box and a prompt to press okay.
I've tried enabling the hotspot through widgets and through ES File Explorer's Net Manager and the same thing still happens.
I've tried clearing the cache and starting in safe mode and both did the same thing (after clearing the cache it worked for 5 seconds then gave the error, after this first time it gave the error straight away after that.).
I then tried this solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2791938 with the xposed's x tether. After installing it and restarting my phone, the hotspot worked for about 20 seconds, I found it on my computer and connected to it but google.com wouldn't load (so I guess it wasn't working properly) and then it dropped out and turned off. Now it is back to saying the same: "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped.".
I posted this elsewhere and was told to try the app fixes 'TrevE Mod for wifi tether' and 'Foxfi'. I tried both multiple times and still getting the same error message.
I tried another solution off the xda forums specific to my phone model and AT&T issue. It involved going to system/apps and renaming both tethering automation files then replacing them with a file that was provided in the post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535141
After doing the whole process twice to make sure I did it right, It still didn't work, it gives me the first error message: "Mobile data is not available or invalid SIM" and I definitely have the 4g on and have double checked that it is working.
I have no idea what to do now, I've googled everything I can think of and read too many threads. I'm going to post this to multiple forums for coverage. Here on xda I will post here and in the AT&T Galaxy s4 section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/issues-hotspot-tether-unlocking-att-t3181052
The build number is NC1. And I'm on 4.4.2. The hotspot worked fine when I was in America on AT&T. Tethering also gives me the same error message.
I am at wits end and have no idea what to do now. Please Please help me! I would be extremely grateful.
Thanks for even reading my issues, I really want this hotspot to work asap.
As stated I'm using the LG G5 H830 T-Mobile variant. I am getting 4G LTE data connection and everything runs well (Not in any WiFi range) Yet for SMS and calling as well as mobile hotspot I get "No USIM card' error. This happened after wiping the system and formatting data. Rebooted recovery (as per instructions on forum) then installed the stock firmware & Patch with systemless root and xposed. After this I did factor reset when just pulling the sim didn't help. Still nothing. I reflashed just the stock firmware with TWRP and SuperSU and issue is still happening. I've disabled rebooted and enabled the phone radio. SIM is in good condition and tray as well everything is SECURE and should be good to go.
I'm assuming a new SIM might be a solution. But I'm not counting on it and with Labor Day tomorrow for me I wouldn't be able to pick one up for 2 days. So here I am...hoping someone might have a fix. I know I don't have many posts on here. But I am an experienced user....just not with the more basic of problems I guess
Thanks!!
Has anyone else experienced this yet? I'm just curious...I had it fixed for a couple days. I've formatted data and done complete system wipe. Tried it resetting phone with the COMPLETE zip and TOT using LGUP. I'm receiving texts. Not calls. Not able to send either. I've activated new sim, didn't help. LG support just told me to look into warranty. T-Mobile needless to say just wanted. Sim card does show stock tmobile short code contacts but phone number shows as unknown. Hotspot won't work. I've tried setting the phone number to the sim. Nothing.
Anyways. I don't think I messed with anything, even so I've done everything to start the phone from scratch. Going to replace it, just more or less curious at this point and maybe others have had the same issue.
I believe I had the same issue as you and it was driving me crazy. I was constantly wiping data, system, etc but my phone kept giving the message "roaming indicator off" where it should show the name of the carrier. This resulted in me having LTE data and that's it- no 3g, no phone calls, etc. I couldn't even access the mobile network menu.
What ended up causing the issue was the network mode setting under wireless networks. Keep in mind at this point I'm running a patched rom which now gives more options in the network mode menu than the phone came factory with. I have an area at work where I have to switch to 3g, GSM/wcdma preferred network setting, because although I have full LTE signal, my connection goes dead. When switching back from 3g I chose the setting lte/CDMA thinking this would force my phone to stay in lte mode due to another area on an upper floor where the phone will constantly drop lte.
Anyways this resulted in my phone saying roaming indicator unavailable, the inability to make or receive phone calls, and either the mobile networks or network mode menus being grayed out. When stuck in this mode there is no way to put the phone back into the standard "GSM/wcdma/lte" mode. Even a complete reflash won't fix it. I even used lgup, which worked for maybe a day until it force closed the phone app and went back to roaming indicator unavail. I wiped every partition and even reflashed radio firmware. Nothing worked.
What ended up fixing it was using an app called v10 hidden settings which allowed me to access the network mode menu directly and re-choose the lte/wcdma/GSM setting. Incidentally on first access to this menu through the app there are only two network settings available. Once you choose a GSM setting, the rest appear.
I'm not sure if this was your issue but I hoped this helped because this took me about a week to workout.
My Moto G XT1045 was running perfectly fine with Cyanogen Mod 13 for months. A few months ago, for seemingly no particular reason, data, SMS and phone service stopped working completely. I tried a bunch of things to fix it, including a complete wipe, but nothing worked. Eventually what solved it was running the battery down to nothing, recharging it, and rebooting it.
Now I have the same problem, and the battery-killing trick hasn't worked.
When I open "Phone info" by dialing *#*#4636#*#* it reports "GSM service: Radio off."
Pressing "TURN ON RADIO" does nothing.
When I choose "View service Dialling Numbers" from that page, I get a list of customer support numbers for my provider, so I know that at least the SIM is working to some degree.
Another sign that the SIM card is fine is that the list of Access Point Names automatically loaded from the SIM card is correct.
In Mobile Networks->Network Operators, pressing "Search for networks" yields the message "Error while searching for networks."
Here's a list of what else I've tried:
Removed/re-added my Access Point Name
Switched to and from other Access Point Names
Wiped Cache/Dalvik with TWRP
Wiped everything, including data
Installed stock android ROM (lollipop)
Flashed Lollipop Radio Firmware from this thread
Allowed the battery to die and recharged a few times
Booted into safe mode
Any other ways I can diagnose or potentially solve this problem?
I recommend contacting via pm or by posting in that radio forum asking for losts101's help.

Did you manage to solve this eventually? I am dealing with the same issue on my Moto G XT1039.

Unfortunately no, I eventually gave up and got a new phone. It was getting about time for me to buy a new phone anyway, I ended up getting an Honor 5X (I love it!)
Hello,
I have a carrier unlocked Pixel 2 walleye that is rooted (magisk, no custom recovery) and on Verizon
android version 8.1.0
build #OPM1.171019.021
when I try to activate wifi calling, i get the spinning circle for a long time, and then it finally says "unable to activate wi-fi calling. please try again later"
I have HD voice activated on my verizon wireless account.
I tried the VoEnabler module in Magisk
Wifi calling is turned on in the phone info screen (*#*#4636#*#*)
The only thing i guess i haven't tried is installing a Verizon ROM instead of the stock Google ROM.
Before I went that route, I wanted to check here and see if anyone else was able to get it to work for them.
Thanks in advance.
ok so i had this issue twice on the same phone and i am rooted as well. i think the only way to get it to work is to disable root, activate wifi calling, then reactivate root.
I have enabled this feature while rooted on 2 different PIxel 2's.
This sounds silly but turn off wifi and try to activate it. I've been unable to input my address during the activation process multiple times unless I am on cellular.
thanks for the suggestions everyone. with wifi turned off, it still won't work. I'll try the unroot path next time there is a new system update. It's not a critical need at the moment, but it is rather annoying that i can't activate it.

I don't think your problem is related to root unless it's a Magisk module of some kind that's the problem. I'm on Verizon, rooted with Magisk. I haven't had wireless calling turned on but after seeing your post I thought I'd check and see if it works on mine. It connected without any problems for me.
Did you ever figure this out?

I'm having a similar issue, except that I can enable wifi calling but always get the "Turn off airplane mode or connect to a wireless network" message when attempting to place a wifi call. Everything with regard to wifi calling is set up correctly. I thought I had this narrowed down to Oreo version and patch level, but I honestly can't come up with a repeatable scenario that breaks it. About all I can say for sure is it seems like when I flash back to bone stock, OPM1.171019.021, wifi calling works as expected. However, it seems to break after a while, even without applying any updates. My gut says it's related to root, but I've also seen it work with root. I also have a suspicion it has something to do with the type of authentication on the wifi network, as the first time I ever saw wifi calling work was when I connected to an open SSID. The problem is, right after that, it worked fine on a WPA2 network on which it never worked before. This is on Verizon with a Pixel 2 from the Google Store. I have a hard time believing it's a Verizon issue, though. It's more like the phone does a check for wifi connectivity and returns "false" for some reason.
*** I should add all my testing has been done by turning on airplane mode (thus disabling LTE/3G) and then enabling wifi. My office at work has horrendous cell coverage, but I haven't gotten it down to zero bars without airplane mode to see if it works then.
