[FACT] I raped my S6 - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Friends,
I've rooted my S6; pluggend and unplugged it from the fast charger over 100 times within minutes. Drained the battery to 0% over 20 times and flashed a number of ROMS and BLs and Modems without paying attention to Model number and CRC. I believe my S6 is fully raped now and won't recover. Battery life is horrible and it's acting up big time.
Any ideas on how to salvage the phone?

I read you shouldn't drain newer batteries to 0% because it will affects its battery life. Best thing you could do is keep the phone between 40% and 80% battery.
As for recover, put your phone in downloadmode, download your region ROM and flash via Odin or perhaps via Smart Switch.
Good luck

Why would you do that to your battery??

never understood why would you root your brand new phone. If it gets older and doesnt get updates anymore then its ok but otherwise just nah....

You probably don't understand all that root can do. Rooting is one of the FIRST things I do on any phone I get.

rooting is not just about updates its a big misconception ,rooting gives you the full privilege and a super control over your phone, almost all experienced xda users are so used to root and its privileges that they just feel like stone age on stock roms ,root it removes a number of restrictions and allows you to mould your phone as you want and not as the OEM wants! I rooted my nexus 5 on the second day of buying and never ever unrooted it !

This is exactly why companies don't want us to root phones. Most users don't understand what it does.

I understand exactly what Root can and can't do and it is simply not needed in this day and age. It's like souping up your Vauxhall Corsa to zip around looking good. It's still a Vauxhall Corsa and it's not going to do any more or less than it did before.
Rooting is a dinosaur from a bygone age you needed when Android was so crap you had to do it to have a working phone. These days you get zero battery improvement, zero performance improvement and zero need for extra storage or removal of ads as we have everything we need without Root.

So when was the last time you used a rooted device? Root still is at its best!

You need to chill first!
All you got to do is
-A wipe data
-Flash stock firmware from odin of your region
-Callibrate your battery
-Use your phone normally and take precautions next time while rooting and flashing
What may have caused battery drain:
-Unstable kernels!
-Modems of different region face problem in signal reception hence drain battery
-poor calibration of battery due to continous flashing which causes sudden jumps of battery

[Q] Samsung Infuse won't 'idle' correctly

I have had a problem come and go with my Samsung Infuse. Some update from some app causes the CPU to never be able to truly 'sleep' or 'idle' correctly causing the phone to burn through 3.7% battery life per hour. When it's 'healthy' it only uses 0.7% per hour.
In the past I thought I had isolated Google Play Books as the culprit and uninstalling that solved the issue. It took me quite a while to find that issue, then my phone was great for months. About a month or two ago something changed and the problem is back. Again I uninstalled almost all updates and apps I didn't need and managed to get it purring nicely for over two days, then it started burning power again. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am sick of fighting with it and also do not want the pain and expense of a new phone as that seems the only option.
The phone is an ATT phone that I use as a 'Go Phone' and ATT has never posted an OS update for the phone to download so it is still at Firmware 2.2.1 and Kernel 2.6.32.9 Build number FROYO.UCKH1.

Any battery killing apps can be determined by Wakelock Detector. So if you're rooted (I think that's a requirement), you are good to go.
I installed WLD and after 2.5 hours running, my battery is now draining at 4.5% per hour with something called UID taking 3m 18s for a total of 29 times and only four other listings adding up to less than half of that in wakeups and less than a minute. Net was 3% awake.
How is my phone burning so much power if it's only awake for about 4 minutes total???
My phone is NOT rooted, not sure exactly what that means but I am assuming some kind of wipe and re-install without ATT junk on there. I suppose rather than buy a new phone I can look into that process, would that let me get the latest version of Android? I assume I would lose EVERYTHING I have configured on the phone, would I still be able to use it as an ATT Go Phone? It took HOURS for the techs in the ATT store and help from experts on the phone to get data working on it and I would hate to go through that again.

Hmmm, does Froyo have a built-in battery usage app (i.e. Settings > Battery, then scroll down for the "Battery use Details" aka top abusers)? If not BetterBatteryStats (XDA Edition) should fill in those gaps. Whenever it appears I have a runaway app, I look at my battery use details and wakelocks.

Rooting is essentially getting administrative privileges so you can do more on your phone. Something simple like backing up your apps requires root. Wiping and reinstallling without AT&T junk would be more like installing a custom ROM. That will get you the latest version of Android (via Cyanogenmod or its offshoots like Carbon).
If you are interested in going that route, there is a process that will get you there. For now, I would recommend the next step up in Android versions, being Gingerbread. This version is still official for the Infuse, so it does have the AT&T junk. Be sure to record your APN settings before upgrading as that was probably what took hours at the AT&T store. So I would use option A or D in the link above, particularly D if you don't plan on sticking with Gingerbread. And if going to KitKat later, you can move straight to Step 3 in the guide (linked further up in this paragraph).
Hope this helps.
After 13 hours I am only at 4% awake time and still at 4.7% per hour. Bettery Battery Stats and Wakelock Detector seem to indicate that no applications are at fault, and I am still running the original OS so nothing has changed there, does this mean it has to be my battery? I only use the original charger, but this battery has only been use a month or two. I have a stack of batteries I can try out, but it bothers me that these batteries are wearing out so fast if that is indeed the problem. Am I missing something here?
I am happy with my phone as it is so long as I don't have to charge it every other day, is the Infuse just hard on batteries? Upgrading looks terribly scary, and I am not sure it would make things any better. (The one exception to that is Skype no longer supports my OS, but unless I can take the phone to some expert I don't see myself going through the stress of trying to upgrade.)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Some more info, for the last 5 hours two battery apps show me locked at 30% battery power which makes no sense. It's like the phone has no idea how much power is actually left in the battery. Is it just voltage that tells the phone how much battery is left?
I have played around with a few 'battery' calibrators in the past, but at the time they didn't seem to do much good. Is that what I need now?

I think it is just voltage that determimes. It could be the battery or the sensor. The way to tell is try a different battery and see, sounds like you have a spare already. If a calibrator worked in the past, maybe its time to try it again.
I never considered the infuse hard on batteries, but the battery does have a low mAh rating for phones of that size.
A charge every other day is very good for smartphones. Thats what i get with my last two devices. But once the battery cant last a full day for me, i know something is up.
P.S. Does wakelock detector say that the device is awake most of the time? If so, the problem could still be software.
I ran the battery all the way down and charged it while the phone was off. Initially it ran for almost a day with like -0.5% per hour, but then it went back to the -4.7% per hour rate and it may hit another plateau again. It seems to be I need to calibrate the battery or clear out the old calibration. I need ROOT to do that so I looked into that. I started by installing the older version of Kies and it updated itself, but the install complained about a driver failing to install, and when I try and plug the phone in (even in USB debug mode), Kies will not make the connection. Vanilla USB connection works fine however. Am I missing a certain driver for Win 7 64 bit? Where can I find it?

To follow up on this, I did manage to get my phone rooted, and I must say that was pretty scary. After reading the instructions to upgrade my Froyo to Jellybean, I think not for me. Why can't an OS upgrade on Android be WAY easier for the poor consumer?
Anyhow, now that I have root, I was able to calibrate my battery and go a whole 5 days on one charge and still have 20% left. You would think many consumers need to replace/calibrate their battery and having to root their phone to get it working correctly is just ridiculous. Android needs to make that WAY easier as well.

OS upgrades on Android ARE easy. You're just using a phone for which official software updates were discontinued years ago. Gingerbread was the last official software released for the Infuse. You should be thankful that you're even getting ICS, Jelly Bean and KitKat because of some awesome devs.
A current gen Nexus devices has easy software updates. You click update and it does it for you. No flashing, calibration or rooting required. In fact the updates are usually more stable than Apple's half-baked disasters with iOS 7 and 8.

Factory resets dont make a difference in battery life?

So I've had this issue on two different Galaxy devices: a Note 5 and S7. Both these devices were bought new, both had excellent battery life when new, and both began to see reductions to battery life 4 months in. I'm now seeing 3.5h SOT avg on the S7 compared to 4.75 when new, but the crazy thing is that a factory reset doesnt bring it back to new levels. I realize the battery does age, but that shouldnt happen this badly this quickly, also not while my mom's GS6 has somehow maintained a 4h SOT avg throughout the whole year it's been used. Do f. Resets just not make a diff anymore?

Hi mate
Batteries performance goes down with time , ambient temperature , usage , settings.......is hard to pin point what is going on in your case , you need to use an app like Better Battery Stats ( if you are root) to see what is going on.
Factory reset does not clean every thing , if you are root wipe the internal sd card ( data) to really clean it , with factory reset there is always the chance to leave behind "orphan files" , if not root relashing (odin) firmware with CSC ( not home csc ) will do the trick also

Factory reset helps:
after the inital 3 days, because the first days (the first especially) the phone will be configuring itself, downloading ,etc.
if your don't install anything.
if you currently have corrupt data, or you are using your phone for a loooong time so there is loads of clutter of old apps. But not within a few months normally. Also, difference in batterylife should still be minimal
Maybe this will better your batterylife

Lollipop on S7?

Abysmal battery life.

I have run out of ideas. I have uninstalled apps, repaired the OS, done everything I can think of. The battery life of this phone is the worst I have ever experienced in a phone. I can barely get a day out of this phone (2hrs 30 SOT). I'm at my wit's end. Is it just my device or do others experience this. And does anyone have any idea what I can do?
Unfortunately Sony doesn't pack much into their batteries and software does take a toll. I had a Huawei P9 and P10 Plus and I would get a solid day of heavy use, with my XZ I can't make it to early evening with comparable usage. I prefer Sony handsets to all others, but I have to agree with you in that battery life is crap.

Yeah, but it wasn't always like this. I used the Z2 and it had great battery life and I also used a Z3 dual and it's battery life was even better. Compared to those 2, the XZ's battery life is shockingly bad. I used to get 6-7 hrs SOT on my Z3, 2 hrs is a struggle on this phone.

Make sure you do a factory reset after the update.
You will thank me for it later.
Also if you want to seriously see major peeofmance and battery improvement, you need to root and installtlal duality dra4.
People are achieving 5-10hour sot with 24-48hours usage.
The experience in this rom is night and day compared to stock.
Stock ROM is complete turd.
I'm giving you this information from my first hand experience. You need this rom, else you will continue to be disappointed I know this.
Why do I know, well I've been with Sony for 5years and haven't rooted for the passed 2 years until now. It's a must to root this phone else it's merely mediocre.
However the choice is yours

+1 ...man this is all thru... i have same xperience with Sony devices...i had xperia z,z2,z5 and now xz and since z5 everything is going down...less battery life...same speakers since z2...very bad loudspeaker its so low that even a low budget phone beats it.. also OVERHEATING badlly...but the design of the phone is way better then any competition atleast for me...and also xz is very durbale phone it fellt 5 times already on concrete also 2 times fell directly on the screen and nothing is broken yet...screen has only 2 little scratches and of course all corners are beaten up a little bit hehehe over all very durable trust me...this new plastic that they use is so good...and at the end i really must say that rootin is a must for this phone cuz since i got it i had constant problems with stock rom, specialy with ram usage it gave me lags all the time but now i use custom rom and xz is flying like it should.

Install wakelock detector or betterbatterystats and check what's draining your battery. This phone should easily achieve 1 day battery life. I'm getting 3,5-4 of Ingress (AR game that uses GPS+Mobile Data+screen on - so it's hard to drain more)m and about 5sot with normal use

Yeah, I'd say the decision ultimately depends on why you want to mod your device. There isn't much development for this device, and the two custom ROMs are either not going to be supported much longer (Turbo) or aren't working very well (Carbon). So, first you'd need to be good with manually updating your firmware, patching DRM keys, hoping someone still updates kernels, etc. Either that or your excellent camera goes to waste with green pics.
I wanted better sound and so, from that perspective I am happy I rooted and set up Viper. However, on the whole I'd probably not have unlocked my bootloader because applying security updates is time consuming and there aren't good close to stock options in terms of zip flashable ROMs.
Overall, I'll never buy another Sony device as the DRM key fiasco is utter bull****, and my specific device has a couple problems.

yes with stamina its good but still I should easily get 6 hours without stamina, here I got stamina on battery perferred and still barely touching the 6 hour screen on time...
I litterally tried every thing, I think my battery is leaking XD because if i use my device straight I still get 6 hours without stamina mode enabled, but if I occasionally use it I still get 6 hours even less, because when the screen is off battery still going down like a b!tcH its like a sale you know? XD in 6 hours the battery dies wether you use it or not XD

Experience is definitely personal. My average battery use (presently 18 cycles on Accubattery) is about 8% per hour screen on and 1.5% per hour screen off. With the screen off I stream quite a lot of music, so I'm probably more like 1% per hour standby. Full battery estimates are nearly 13h screen on, 55h screen off and 30h combined.
I've typically been stock, but rooted with DRM patch. I tested Turbo for a short while but found the system UI customizations lacking, sound not all that great, and battery was worse.

Samsung S7 Exynos Overheating or bad battery?

Basically my galaxy for some reason when I play certain games or use the phone normally the upper center part of the phone heats up a bit and the battery just goes from 90% to 80% in like 10 or 15 mins. I've been thinking about changing the battery but I'm not sure if it's the battery or the phone that has overheating problems because I dropped it over the years and the phone deteriorated.
Hi! After the latest update I noticed that too, that something is wrong with how battery is going down so fast, but I have my phone for 1,5 year, so I will change for LineageOS 16.0 soon when I find some time.

There's one thing that makes me nervous, my phone heats up quite a bit and everytime it heats up the battery just goes that's why I'm confused.
I don't feel heating in mine, so I can't say much about it, maybe it is a clearly OS problem... I had that in my Ace 2 long time ago that after one update phone started to heat, so I downgraded it and everything went back to normal.

I installed lightrom custom ROM and its a bit better but still does the same, I'm praying it's just a bad battery

Batteries only last around 500 charging cycles after that they often cause issues, discharging faster which in turn makes it hot and batteries don't like heat, so essentially the batt is killing itself just as its designed to do.
It doesn't matter which firmware your running if the battery is going haywire and degrading, new batt or new phone is the only solution. AND of course no phone is built to last cause Sammy wants you to keep them in business.

That makes sense, thanks for helping me, actually my phone has 3 years, I didn't know it was so old because I bought it from a friend and I asked him a few days ago when he got the phone and he told me exactly when he bought it. I'm just concerned as why my phone heats up more than normal, I've seen people with s7 and they say when they play games the phone stays relatively cool but when I play games my phone goes to like 37C° and I know it might not be that hot but it's a bit unusual for me since I've never experienced a phone get so hot, I have a lot of old and new phones and no phone goes as hot as this one
