TWRP for the Sprint Note Edge - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if somebody has compiled TWRP for our device yet? If not, I am going to do it but I may need some help. Anyone have experience with this? It will be my first recovery compilation. Your thoughts?

There is no TWRP for the Note Edge. The Note 4 version is compatible and has been used since the beginning, as indicated by most root tutorials on this forum for all Edge variants.

I haven't read a root tutorial in a couple of years. I missed it. Thanks for the info.

The note 4 twrp does have a few quirks on the edge (screen lock can't be disabled, white bars on either side) so I'm sure no one's going to complain if a dedicated note edge version was released though lol

TWRP and Xposed...

I've been trying to stay up to speed with all the information as this is my first Samsung. I'm rooted. Am I correct in thinking that twrp isn't available for us yet and I read that we can't run xposed on Samsung devices? YouTube ads are brutal! Thanks!
Yes, to the best of my knowledge you're correct on both points. I'm really missing Xposed coming from M8
Thanks.. Same here from an M7.

[Firmware] G935UUEU4API3 Odin Files & Modded Odin

I know there's another thread for this but it's an absolute cluster F*** to make heads or tails of. I wanted to simplify things.
Simply download files, download modded Odin and put files in proper slots in Odin.
This is will give you stock U firmware with the latest PK1 modem. Root isn't what it used to be so I don't bother with it, please don't ask me for root files and instructions of this firmware.

Here's the modded Odin that I used. This is from the root thread and never once failed to flash anything on any device I've thrown at it: http://d-h.st/gsDA
Thank you for simplifying this process.
You're welcome. I'm here to help.... The other thread was too much of a mess!
Thanks joe3681, for all of your efforts.
Where online can I find a list of updates or a version history for the Samsung S7 Edge (T-mobile)?
so this will work with the latest update from November? and also what are the benefits of U firmware? I haven't been able to find any good info anywhere. i have rooted and flashed before lol i just haven't been in the game for a while
U firmware seems smoother, it's bloat free. Only real downside is no advanced messaging.

No, the U firmware is still the September security patch level. It's so much smoother/faster though. Especially rooted.
Thank you so much, this was obviously 100x easier to follow than the other thread.

Not so sure about that.. Seems laggy still compared to stock and gets hot easier even after cpu fixes

I followed the O.P. in the post root issues thread, doing nothing more and nothing less than what they said to do. No lag, normal temperature.
Thank you
OP thank you for the easy to follow instructions. I just bought my SM-G935T from ebay. I noticed some lag with the S7 Edge and of course all the Samsung and T-Mobile bloatware.
I flashed all of the files then did a system cache wipe. I have not noticed lag so far and now have 20 GB of the 32 GB free.
One question though. Where will the phone check for updates? Will it get updates from Samsung or T-Mobile?
TWRP help
.
I just got my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge and have been doing a lot of reading here on XDA about this device. I have had all the galaxy's since Galaxy II.
I have rooted / custom recovery / custom ROM all of them. I know there basically is not much out yet as far as ROMS go for the S7e, but I would like to instal
TWRP and root the phone. I can not seem to get a straight answer as to how to do this exactly. Each "How-To" that I run into are a little bit different and scares
me a bit. If you could help me with any answers or links to my question(s) I would sure appreciate it.
1) I would like to odin into the phone the latest TWRP but I am not 100% sure which file to flash.
2) I would like to ROOT the phone if it is fairly safe at this point in development, but again I have heard of at least 2 different methods to do this.
3) Please advise on which file to use and/or method. My phone DOES connect up with my PC just fine via USB and I have ADB working also.

Spend more time reading around the forums before you try anything, but to answer your questions:
1) TWRP not possible on TMobile S7/S7E
2) Root is possible, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/how-to-root-s7-edge-t3410470
make sure to read the entire thread and note the issues you may run into
3) See #2 above, has all that info in the thread

@fl_gator_dad, it will check with Samsung. Mind you they dont update this as often as carrier versions release their incremental updates

Hello,
thank you for replying. I have been using TWRP on my past 6 phones. Is there some reason why
it wont work on this one ? I did a little more reading and found this
https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys7edge.html
Support Status: Current
Maintainer: jcadduono
Code Name: hero2lte
Also ... if TWRP isn't working then what custom recovery are you and all using ? Clockwork ...?
.
Thank you

Well if you continue searching and reading some more, you will see that twrp only works on non locked bootloaders. Any carrier driven Samsung device has a locked bootloader and twrp will not work. We have the snapdragon and not the exynos. If you need to have twrp then you need to get an S7 edge Exynos version. There is no working custom recovery for the snapdragon version phones as of yet.

Thank you. That is a shame. I would think, incorrectly, that the unlocked GS7 firmware would be the baseline to build the carrier firmware.

Yeah, you'd think! The international is the one that gets everything first.
The unlocked firmware favors T-Mobile though offering T-Mobile customers features that other users don't get.

Flashfire S8

Hey guys, has anyone tried Flashfire to install OTA on S8 yet?
I want to flash July Patch without bricking or having to wipe whole phone. I have seen people complaining about bootloops when using Flashfire.
Am still an amateur with respect to rooting/flashing. But I managed to root and change bixby button to G-assistant.
Thank you.

I flashed the July Patch through odin itself.
App like Flashfire would be really great.
Thank you guys.
I think you can, as long as somebody has made a zip file from it

TWRP and Root on Note 5 Verizon with 7.0Hi, I wanted to ask but can not install the T

Hi,i wanted to ask but can't install the TWRP and root on Note 5 Verizon with Nougat?I've seen several videos on Youtube and install both the TWRP and do the root, both with recovery and with Magisk, you can explain me how it is possible.
It's real or is fake?
Thanks!

I'd assume it's fake. As far as I know, there still aren't any custom recoveries or root methods for the 920V. If someone had managed to pull it off, I suspect this forum would be overrun with people discussing it.

(HELP) Noob question

Sorry if this question is quiet irrelevant to the section
But there is a new Galaxy skin in fortnite just for Note 9 and Tab S4 users
is there anyway to fool how they check the device version so I can appear to them as note 9 users instead of s8+ So I can take the skin without having to pay a 1000$ Mobile

If you have root, you can change /system/build.prop to spoof your S8+ as a Note 9. The problem is, no one knows the codename for the Note 9 (Although it is rumoured to be "crownlte" and "SM-N960F"). Even people who have gotten their hands on Note 9s early can't get the skin on their account until official release. That's probably when it should work.

I play Fortnite with my rooted S8. In essence what you need to do is disable USB debugging and use Magisk hide on the Fortnite app and installer, then hide Magisk Manager and use Magisk core. (Delete the MagiskManager folder in internal storage if necessary). And that's how you play Fortnite with root.
