Phone bricked ive tried everything... - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so to start my name is lars. ive got a sprint galaxy s5. rooted on NE5 and then moved on to CM12.1 for awhile. now im trying to flash back to stock with little to no success. i tried flashing the stock OA6 (latest firmware) and i get <ID:0/006> FAIL! (Auth) and it says [aboot] Fused2 > Binary 1. no success. and i know that error usually means im trying to restore a firmware that's older than the current installed but its newer. i then tried to restore NE5. no luck. i can still get into recovery. but i cant flash touchwiz roms. any advice would be great. this isn't my phone its a coworkers and i feel terrible about the situation.
thanks -Lars

also i can boot cm 12.1 if i reflash it. it will not boot into touchwiz based roms at all. (recovery is still functioning)

This may be a dumb question, but you are going into download mode for Odin, correct? I ask only because you mentioned recovery a few times but not download mode.

It sounds like you may need to repartition the phone as well. I may be wrong though

Yes I'm working with Odin in download mode. and how can I reformat without a proper pit Filw I can't seem to find one anywhere

I'm not sure, I've never had to do it. I always just use the full tar file. I wish I could be of more help.

yeah and that's what i'm using. the full OA6 tar and it rejects it because the phone thinks im trying to downgrade the firmware which makes no sense unless the boot-image is somehow corrupted but i thought it was all hard-coded into the boot-loader it self so im not sure. but thanks for the response non the less..

Maybe you have a bad download. It might be worth downloading it again.

its not i just restore my phone from cm12.1 to stock OA6 via odin with the same download. so its not my computer, usb cable, or download. its something to do with my coworkers phone. it just doesn't make any sense.

I may be wrong, but the filename of the tar in your screenshot isn't anything I've seen. Why don't you try downloading and odin'ing the tar from this link:

yeah that's what i downloaded, that's the file-name that extracts from the executable. i just gave up. flashed cm12.1 back on his phone. the only issue is his GPS is not working even after flushing GPS cache and re-downloading and waiting 24 hours still no luck. thinking about sending it in for warranty replacement and see if they make me pay the deductible.

Have you tried to factory reset, erase all data, caches, and format the system, then boot into download mode reflash your proper firmware!?

That was the 3rd thing i tried no luck I've tried evening i can think of. It's got to be a hard ware issue

I'm having the same exact issue. I know my flashing abilities I've flashed dozens of different models. My problem was this phone was on lollipop 5.0, I wanted to root it then use custom roms. As soon as I flashed, and used a proper bootloader/rom etc. Im stuck at the samsung logo screen. I have recovery capability I can flash roms there, but not through odin at all. 0 success. I've download roms from sammobile, xda, other sources all same issues.

If you are still stuck, can check this thread, may help you out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s5/help/fused-2-binary-1-error-helps-t3127016

try to flash the ne5 tar in odin then see if it will boot then flash the latist firmware from sam mobile sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G900P/SPR/ download both tar files from here.

surprised that noone else has mentioned this, ive had very similar errors and then tried different usb cables. I know its a small percentage shot, but ive fixed same/similar issues with my good old trusty blackberry cable from 2006

HEYYYY , soo i think we have a solution here for bricked OD3 devices
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61388477&postcount=99
Someone with a G900P, and on the new OD3 bootloader, can dump the debrick.img as follows with Terminal Emulator after granting root access and send to you:
busybox if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/debrick.img bs=4096 count=50000
Then:
Flash this Debrick file to your 16GB Micro SD card with Win32DiskImager by
*Insert your Micro SD card into your computer (backup any information you may have on it we are going to ERASE, FORMAT it to ex FAT
*Open win32DiskImager
*Navigate to the location where you downloaded the correct Debrick file
*Select your Debrick file by double clicking on it
*In the upper right corner of Win32DiskImager you should make sure that the drive letter assigned to your sd card is selected.
***Which ever drive that is listed will be erased, formatted
*Click write in the bottom right hand side
put the Debrick SD card in the Phone, Pull and Replace the Battery
Plug phone in usb and boot into download mode
yout phone should boot into download mode then flash stock firmware via odin

Didnt know there was an ND5. There wasnt even an ND5 when I downloaded the kernel source code from samsung. And nope, There like 2 knox files in the entire firmwares which is just left behind crap I believe. Absolutely does not give you a knox bootloader and crap tho. Do make sure your tablet is a T230NU model and not just a T230 model.
Thanks a lot for this. So if I'm rooted and want to install system updates I would first backup data to sd card via titanium ,(or to pc?) , then factory restore via settings, Odin with this firmware, install updates, then vroot + terminal supersu, then restore backups.... correct? I'm still trying to figure out what bloatware is safe to remove...a guide on how to clean a out of the box tab 4 7.0 would be greatly appricated....
Will this Root my T230NU?
Hi, I am new to the Android market and I was wondering if this "stock" image will root my Samsung Galaxy 4 T230NU.
I am a formerly iDevice owner and I am quite familiar with Jailbreaking.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hello Ed,
I'm kind of new as well however I can tell you that this process will not root it. In my case, because I updated the software I had to use the stock Rom in order to downgrade and then root it. ShinySide explains the.. Rooting procedure in another post
thanks!

I just used these links to download the firmware and they worked great. Mega took 1/3 as much time to pull from as Sammobile. Thank you Shinyside! You are awesome. If I wasn't a broke college kid I'd would def donate.
---------- Post added at 01:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:06 AM ----------
So I rooted my Tab 4 7" and then decided to switch to Nexus 7 and sell my Tab 4. Both great devices but the specs and updates draw me to try Nexus after the Tab. Anyway, I went to Sammobile to get the Stock rom and inadvertently ended up with the Nook version. OOOPS. Had to reflash but the second firmware I downloaded from Sammobile (at about 1 hour each, ugh) kept failing. Even after wiping the Cache and resetting I could not flash with Odin. Tried placing the image on the SD and installing in Recovery and still no luck. Then I turned to the ONLY source for self support of Android and found ShinySide with the stuff I needed. Downloaded with the Mega link which took 20+ min instead of an hour and it flashed straight away and my Tab 4 is back to being a Tab 4 instead of a Nook. Just wanted to give props to ShinySide for his efforts on behalf of the community and his patience to put up with noobs even when they do/say silly stuff!
Thank you so much!!
Ive been trying to download this file from all these crappy sites and they keep timing out thank you so much.
Thanks for the great info.
Will this restore stock recovery as well as remove root?
I need to return my device and thus need it fully stock

@ShinySide feel free to add these to the OP if you want
tried rooting and somone got stuck at loading screen with device name and powered by android screen....stuck there and got odin to load and apparently flash the stock but im still stuck...
thank you
HI so i tried installing twrp recovery for my SM-t230NU And it got stuck in bootloop after trying to load custom recovery. Not a single Tar file md5 file worked until i got this rom and USED odin to install it. Odin just kept crashing on me till I got here and used the md5 file provided. It pushed the files while in download mode and rebooted and even still had all my apps and email going.
Again thank you so much and please reply if you have the same device and need help. I thought i bricked my Christmas present.

[Q] n915p cf auto root fails?

I just got my hands on the sprint note edge (such an amazing device!) and i've been trying to root it with cf auto root but every time i flash with Odin, it fails with the progress bar on the phone only about halfway. Any suggestions? I'm on the latest firmware, nk1, which matches the version listed on the cf auto root site.
Thanks in advance
Edit:
HEY, YOU. YEAH YOU. READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST:
We figured out the solution quite a while back, but I know no one wants to read the entire thread, so here's a summary c/p'd from the end:
But to summarize, we've been able to get root by flashing CF auto root, letting it fail, then immediately flashing TWRP. To fix any issues encountered with xposed framework (stock sms not working, lagginess, installations taking forever, etc.), freeze with titanium/delete data for shealth, health services, and private mode, install securestorage module in xposed or use the equivalent option in Wanam, reboot, and unfreeze.

Now if you've tried this and you're still having issues, then post ahead. If you haven't tried this, or need help with specifics, read the thread. There's a post by me halfway through or so with 4 XDA links in it. If you want more info on the problem with xposed, check out those links.

You may check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/general/easy-steps-stock-odin-n915tuvu1anjl-sm-t2943993
Its for a Tmobile version, but it looks like they may have had the same issue, but figured it out... I haven't tried it yet, but am REAL close to giving it a shot. It looks to me that flashing TWRP after the fail, may be the key to making it successful? I have the Sprint model too, but am still on NJL build.
Does TWRP fully support the note edge yet? Some of those steps (disabling screen timeout) make it seem otherwise. I'm usually hesitant to go for workarounds rather than actual fixes... :/ tell me if you do try it out though.

There is an edge auto root. It just happens to be failing at the moment (for sprint anyways). There are workarounds for the T-Mobile auto root (which is also failing) but we're all too chicken here to try it on our new shiney Note Edges . . . Lol

Nope. That's what we all tried and it failed for us too. We're trying to figure out a fix or alternative to this. Anyways, to fix your device, take the .tar.md5 file found inside the CF auto root directory and open it with an archiver like 7zip. Extract the recovery.img to somewhere and run this tool on it. Then open up the odin included in CF auto root and choose the recovery.tar.md5 you created rather than the usual file. Flash in download mode and you're good to go.

Man, this is happening fast... I just got it done successfuly rooting my Sprint Edge. Don't freak, follow the instructions on this thread which works on Tmobile devices. I didn't install the SD card fix file yet, but may if I need it. You are basically starting at the FAIL point of that thread. Although you need the SU file on your phone, which you may be able to get it by putting it on a Microsd and accessing it from recovery that way. Good Luck, and don't panic, lol.

I actually downloaded the Chainfire file yesterday for the SM N915P, but was still too chicken to try it. After I saw this thread today, I decided to go for it. All I basically did was follow the instructions in TEKHD 's thread for the SM915T.
-Dowloaded Chainfire's Sprint AutoRoot file, Unzipped it.
-Put phone in download mode, selcted the Chainfire's Sprint AutoRoot tar file and hit Start.
-ODIN flashed "FAIL".
-I then flashed a 2.8.0.0 TWRP file for the Note 4, which ODIN said was successful, but it would not boot into recovery (so don't do that).
-I flashed the 2.8.1.1 Tmobile TWRP file from TEKHD's thread, ODIN said success.
-Booted into recovery, adjusted settings for brightness in TWRP, (TWRP was acting really flaky, but I pressed on) I couldn't find the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.16.zip file in recovery, (I put the file on my removable SD card) so I rebooted recovery, and this time was able to find the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.16.zip, and flashed it.
-Wiped cache/ Dalvik Cache. Hit Reboot-> System, TWRP said it didn't appear to have root, do I want to root? Hit yes, go , whatever, it rebooted, let settle for a few minutes, and ROOT was born!
Hope that helps and I didn't miss something, but thats how it went down for me.
To sum it up, Follow TEKHD's Tmobile thread, with the exception of the Tmobile Chainfire file, (use the Sprint one obviously) I also did not flash the SD card fix from that thread.
Let me know if you have questions, but I will have to bug out for a while here until this evening...
Good Luck everyone!

No need to flash the SD card fix. there's apps on the play store that will patch the necessary files for that (and you can delete the app afterwards). Interesting that the TMO twrp worked . . . Someone should try that with the SPRINT twrp 2.8.1.1 found here.
Edit: I tried repeatedly to flash both 2.8.1.1 and 2.8.1.0 versions of the SPRINT NOTE 4 twrp and odin consistently crashed on "File analysis".
Edit: I took the plunge and went with the tmobile method. Nothing went wrong. Everything seems to be working fine. The TMO Note 4 recovery is annoying though (two strips of white on both sides of the screen). I didn't have any issues with how it ran like Next1776 did though.
Edit: I'm experiencing some odd issues. The primary one is that anything I install through xposed or f-droid takes FOREVER to install. Anyone else getting this?

BUt just to confirm, jooniloh.... you do have confirmable root? Guess my clue should be that you are using xposed.... but just wanted to confirm before I went down the rabbit hole....

Awesome. Glad you are able to join the party!
I'm not having any issues right now. I have installed Xposed and Wanam without any issues so far. I did disable Knox and Secure storage with Wanam (under security hacks) as another poster suggested. Maybe also try wiping Cache and dalvik in recovery ? Hopefully we will have a stable custom recovery available soon. I say stable, but I guess this one is "stable" - its just not real pretty...

[Q] AT&T S5 (G900A) Soft-Bricked / Freezes on Boot Logo using any ROM

I'd appreciate any help to get my phone working again. I've only had it for a couple of weeks and I'm hoping I haven't completely ruined it...
I'll try to recall the exact steps I took to get to this point:
First, towelroot wouldn't work to get root due to me accepting the OTA update to 4.4.4 android. So I found on a forum post that you can use Odin to flash the stock kernel and then towelroot will work. So I downloaded the stock kernel and flashed it successfully using Odin. Towelroot was then able to work with success. After that I installed SuperSU and busybox. Then I was using this guide (URL omitted due to forum rules) to install SafeStrap recovery as I'd read CWM recovery didn't work for the G900A model (AT&T). Safestrap seemed to install OK and when I rebooted I was able to get into the SafeStrap software interface. From there, I attempted to flash the CM12 nightly build to the "stock rom" slot (I'd read there was some trouble using the non-stock-rom slots in SafeStrap). That operation completed with success, but when I tried to reboot, it froze at the CM12 splash screen. I tried this with a few more custom ROMS and they all do the same thing (freeze up on boot logo / splash screen).
I've tried using Odin to flash back the stock firmware. As long as I didn't try to flash the bootloader (BL) Odin shows "PASS". However, when it reboots it again hangs on the Samsung splash screen.
So at this point, I've flashed all stock firmware to the phone (except BL) and it freezes and then goes black screen on the Samsung splash screen. Also, it no longer shows the SafeStrap "recovery / continue" bootup screen since I flashed the stock firmware.
Any ideas on how I can get back to a useable device?...

"odindownload.com" will install a LOT of MALWARE (270MB) but NOT ODIN!!!!!!!!!!
Download ODIN (1MB) HERE
Original stock firmware (safe and tested) can be downloaded HERE
Connect your phone in "DOWNLOAD" mode (Power off and then press "Vol down + home + power" at the same time)
Open "ODIN" and select the downloaded firmware as "AP"
Press start (Progress will take about 10 minutes)
Phone will be fine again

Googled the error. Solution is to flash the firmware with PIT file. Only problem is that someone has to give you a working pit file.

Same problem with other Samsung phone and description for the solution --> CLICK ME
I'm still stuck... I'm just looking to get back to a usable device. I really don't care if it's a stock or custom rom at this point. Any help is appreciated.
I tried flashing with the full firmware package I downloaded (4.4.2 G900A stock firmware) which included a *.pit file inside one of the tarballs. I used the PIT/re-partition option and everything succeeded except it still freezes at the Samsung boot logo.

Try first to install TWRP recovery instead of Samsung recovery using odin with the phone in the downloading mod
Then wipe every thing using Twrp
Then flash that rom using twrp
I installed twrp 3.0.3-0 and i still can't wipe anything, unable to mount data, storage and cache, tried changing the data partition type to vfat but no matter what I try it all ends with unable to mount data, storage and cache

I'm beginning to think this is hardware related, I've already flashed four different firewares including the one you told me to use and the phone boots up rite back to the same error!!! I'm kinda sceptical though because the Odin flashing always goes well, everything loads until Odin says pass.

Hey thanks for the input guys, this phone got wet and when it was dried and turned on again this is the state its started in. I took out the logic board and checked for any damage from the water (corrosion) and its all clean, I even sprayed it with WD (water displacement), allowed it to drain and then heated it with the heat gun which vaporized the WD. I flashed with the pit file and all goes well, but it just reboots back to same errors. Fellas feel free to msg me on WhatsApp +5926792003 anytime. I'm just happy to know there is a place I can ask for help and get it! Here in Guyana the few phone techs I've talk to don't seem to be this in depth with some of the stuff I've learned from here, all these Guyanese tell me to do is change the board but I'd rather be sure that its beyond repair before I invest my hard earned money which is not easy to come by. The cost of the board is around 23000 Guyana dollars, which would be about 105 USD.
I forgot to mention, when I flashed twrp, in the advance wipe option, when I choose repair, I can see an actual size on the system and cache partition, but all other partitions show 0mb.

Bro don't ever flash the pit. Go to www.sammobile.com and download the J700TUVU2APK6 firmware. Extract the zip on your PC and open Odin. Now go to Options (2nd tab) and unclick auto reboot. Click bootloader update, Nanderase all and reset time. Put the tar in the AP slot and flash it. When it completes flashing pull your battery. Boot into recovery holding the right buttons and let the phone erase and update the system. When it finishes it should boot into recovery by itself, if it doesn't pull your battery and boot into recovery again. Then let the phone boot and you're good to go. When you root this time and install TWRP make sure OEM unlock and USB debugging are ticked in developer options this time.

Please don't make statements when you're not sure what it is your advising.
Flashing the firmware hasn't worked as already posted.
The device is beyond simply flashing the firmware. It is fine to flash the PIT file with the state the device is already in.
@JrTech
It seems your partitions are damaged. There is hope if the system partition can be mounted which means the EMMC isn't totally dead.
Boot to TWRP and save the recovery log. Post the recovery.log file here (not the output).

Repair firmwares??

So im wondering if anyone has repair firmwares for the USA SM_G955U. i recently installed a U2QK4 update OTAusing ADB from the ATT section and everything went bad from there. I was told i may not be able to downgrade but thats not the problem. I CANT DO ANYTHING WITH MY PHONE NOW! IT HAS NO RECOVERY AT ALL IT JUST FLICKERS THE BLUE SCREEN WITH THE ANDROID AND A TEXT APPEARS OCCASIONALLY ON THE FLICKERING SCREEN WITH A WHOLE BUNCH OF FAILS. THERE IS NO UPLOAD MODE AT ALL. I CAN ONLY ACCESS DOWNLOAD MODE WHICH MAKES NO SENSE TO FLASH ANYTHING CAUSE NOTHING WORKS. THE ONLY THING THAT IS FLASHABLE ON NON-MODDED AND MODDED ODIN IS CP! I DONT EXACTLY UNDERSTOOD WHAT HAPPENED. EVERYTHING WAS OPERABLE AND THEN THE PHONE ENCRYPTED ITSELF,REBOOTED ANDA BLUE SCREEN WITH A CARD WAS FLASHING AND ALL WENT TO HELL. TRIED REBOOTING AND THATS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN! I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THAT ON A PHONE BEFORE!
ITS BEEN DAYS SINCE THIS HAPPENED AND I WAS TOLD THE FIRMWARE WAS BEING UPDATED FROM THE OP AND STILL NOTHING! I DONT THINK PEOPLE SHOULD POST THINGS TO FLASH WITH JUST A WARNING ON HERE, THEY SHOULD TEST IT BEFORE POSTING BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE ME GET CURIOUS AND WANT TO FLASH THINGS,BUT, THE POSTER DOESNT HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT IT DOES!NOT HIS FAULT AS I AM TO BLAME,
ILL SAY IT HERE AGAIN SO PEOPLE DONT THINK IM BLAMING ANYONE,
I I AM TO BLAME!!!!
OKAY, BUT, NOW I AM STUCK WITH A $950 PAPERWEIGHT! AND HONESTLY I WANTED TO BRICK IT, BUT, I THOUGHT WARRANTY OR INSURANCE WOULD COVER IT IN WHICH THEY WONT BECAUSE ATT IS GETTING CRAPPY WITH THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. IT SEEMS I HAVE BEEN LEFT IN THE DARK WITH NO CLUES OR HELP.
SORRY FOR CAPITAL LETTERS FORGOT TO TURN IT OFF AND AM NOT ABOUT TO RE-TYPE.
IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT TO DO OR HOW TO FIX THIS PLEASE HELP.
(AND GETTING A NEW PHONE WONT HELP, SO THAT RESPONSE IS SHOT)
LOOKING FOR A FIX. THANKS IN ADVANCE

Few things:
U2QK4? I don't think that's a model number for a firmware... We certainly haven't seen a U2 g955/0u firmware yet...
And sammobile has it as u1aqk3 for vzw so tmb should be u1qk4.
Can you double check what you flashed?

1. A good, new odin that will flash an official package.
https://odindownload.com/download/Odin3_v3.12.3.zip
2.Not the latest firmware, but a solid base (which you can then use to OTA updated to the latest patches)

I'm pretty sure norbarb, the provider of the U2BQK4 firmware knew that it was for the N950(note 8) and posted it in his adb update thread. I bought a new motherboard and will not ever update from that person again because of what has happened. I am not bashing him I just don't want to go through this mess again. and so far I've gotten a bootloader's to flash by using the.elf files from a u2b file from the note 8. Still no recovery and stuck at the bootloader's screen. Can still get into download mode.
The quickest fix I know is for a new motherboard.
Thanks guys

All due respect but aqc9 is ancient and full of bugs that will make your experience with your phone sub par. Just go to updato.com and download the latest version for your carrier and device. By default updato is slow but if you use a download manager it flies. I can get 3MB/s easily
i honestly dont think people read in these forums. But everyone surely knows everything.
I am starting to get annoyed with that. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
1. i have flashed a rom provided by norbarb in the AT&T forums(he took it down) G955USA1US2BQK4,
2. after installing that update, phone went haywire, encrypted and erased everything except download mode,
3. ABSOLUTELY NO RECOVERY AT ALL,
4. nothing will flash over, NOTHING!! phone error: SW REV ablFAILED 1>binary >2 ODIN error. FAIL(AUTH) and FAIL dismatch model in non-modded ODIN and modded odin.
5. i got a bootloader to flash using abl files from a U2b (meaning bootloader 2) from another file U2BQK5 provided from a third party pm.
6. stuck in a bootloop at bootloader screen,
7. STILL NOTHING FLASHES OVER.
8. EDL cable needed per eli, went ahead and ordered another motherboard.

Lol no need to capslock everywhere. Just download and flash stock and it will be fine. You can get to download mode right?

All due respect but aqc9 is ancient and full of bugs that will make your experience with your phone sub par. Just go to updato.com and download the latest version for your carrier and device. By default updato is slow but if you use a download manager it flies. I can get 3MB/s easily

My friend. You keep saying you download stuff from PM or from other sources yet it doesn't seem like you have bothered to try any of the links I or others on here have posted for you. Especially trying the latest Odin can help with software mismatch errors.

No you're right it is ancient BUT it does have a direct update path straight to last month's security patch. And, maybe most importantly, OP could be using an older ODIN and hasn't tried the new one so I figured an older firmware has best shot at being compatible, he can OTA from there.

hey bro, just to clarify with you i have flashed every file that there is from the links provided and from the forums i have about 8 copies of each file haha looks like i wont be running out soon. seems like the reason it crashed is the memory test that the rom i flashed inflated too much. i think it damaged my board which is okay i have another coming.

Say what now? What made you think it was the memory test? What made you think it was the board or an actual hardware issue with the phone? A memory test can't 'inflate' anything much less can it damage your memory or the actual board.
I had a problem with my device from a badly restored backup where my modem would crash the machine to upload mode moments after booting on anything but a stock rom, and even that the radio didn't work and it would rebolt about 30 times to get to a state where it finished booting at all.
Needless to say I fixed it (I'm still here) but I essentially had to implement my own repair procedure and after about 30 hours total of working in it over two days I managed to get it working enough that I could get a rooted os booted and could then do another restore with a good backup.
If you problem sounds similar (iirc it was in the same general area) and it is then I'm afraid you wasted your money, as all you need is a restore of those partitions outside the rom part of your nvram.

I've been messaging with Eli and he said an EDL cable would fix the problem as it needs the deep flash. What would be your suggestion? I have been trying everything and I noticed somewhere saying windows 8 had problems with Odin software so I am currently installing a fresh copy of windows 10. Any suggestions would be appreciated

.
I thought windoze 10 was the "worst" because of the driver signing gotcha . This was true of me and my alibaba smart watch . For me, I had to resurrect an old h.d. with windoze 7 . . .

Yeah windows 7 is the best but I kinda like the metro theme with 8 and 10, though 8 is bad........
