Push volume up and down and power button at same time until it reboots. Can take up to about 20 seconds. Usually only about 10 for me.

I thought I saw this somewhere... But what I read about it was it was similar to doing a factory reset, doesn't actually reflash anything. I hope I'm wrong.

Vol- & power will do a hard reset when you still have stock recovery.
So has anyone been daring enough to try this? Lol

Yups, my first G2x was experiencing major reboots so I did a factory reset via vol down + power. didn't help lol. Didn't want to wait for an OTA update to fix the issue so I opt to exchange it and my current one now works like it should

the thread says vol. down, HOME and power. is that what you did?
I believe it pops up the stock recovery menu and goes into verbose mode while the phone is doing a factory reset. The stock recovery menu is useless since you can't actually select anything.

Didn't read thoroughly, my bad. its without the HOME key. I don't think the capacitive keys work when the phone is off lol.
If planning to do so, backup prior! Otherwise it shouldnt be necessary...don't do what you don't know your doing just cuz everyone else is doing it lol

Vol. Down and Power gives me a screen that says "S/W Upgrade Please wait while upgrading..." And it never does anything. I had gotten a boot loop (hadn't even considered rooting yet) so I pulled the battery and booted up, I guess my finger had been on volume down. Still does that, and it never changes. Just stays like that. If I pull the battery, I get a boot loop again. What the hell D: Should I call up customer care?
It will force the phone to shut down. I did it couple times when my lock screen froze.
Simply holding power will force the phone to shut down.
Power and volume down format on stock or recovery if nvflashed
I don't think home is necessary or used at all.

Ok so normally if a phone were to freeze up or something happend you just pull the battery and then put it back in and start it up... is there a button combination or something that no matter what will alwaya restart the phone?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
volume up AND down AND power will force a reboot
Wrong
In official user manual on page 180 is that the when not responding press power button for 10 seconds then release to restart the phone

Your method works because you are holding the power button. The volume keys have nothing to do with it you don't have to press them.

I booted into download mode to check and see if it said I had a custom recovery installed or not.
Now how do I get out of download mode without pulling the battery? Is that possible?
Thanks

Have you tried this and had it work? No amount of pressing/holding/thumping-on the power button exits download mode for me...
To avoid removing the case, I also tried power + home, power + volume up/down, power + licking the screen :silly: to no avail.
Battery pull works every time.
I can confirm: holding down the power and ONLY the power for long enough to finish a bowl of popcorn restarted my galaxy tab 2 from download mode. Phew! The battery on that would've taken longer to pull!

Yup, hold power down has worked on this device and all my other Samsung's. Can take up to 20 seconds sometimes, why it's not consistent is beyond me.

Gotta call bulls*it. adb does not work In Download mode
Holding the power button for a few seconds does the trick - just tested it
I had the same question and the actual answer, which I found worked on My Samsung Galaxy S2, was, and I quote---"the same way that you entered Download Mode"--i.e. in my case, holding Volume Down, Home and Power On buttons simultaneously--worked for me.
This was first mentioned by XDA Member 'zoot1'--so he deserves the credit.

pleaseeeee help me fix my phone
phone is not rooted and running andorid 4.1.2
Firstly, why are you trying random button combinations? There's only one button combo that you should use and that's power + volume down. Next, when you connect the phone to your PC, does it show up in Device Manager? What does it show up as?

There's plenty of information right here in this device section that tells you exactly which button combo to use. Just trying random things is a very bad idea, that's how you damage your phone. Anyway, are you sure you can't get into the bootloader? Hold the volume down button, then hold the power button (so you're holding both buttons together), after a couple of seconds let go of the power button but continue to hold the volume down button until you reach the white screen with text, this is your bootloader.

I'm not saying you don't know what the bootloader is, I gave that information because 99% of the time not being able to get to the bootloader is user error. I'm trying to help you and just making sure all bases are covered.

It's too hard to say, you might have just gotten really unlucky and have a spontaneous brick. A jtag repair might be able to revive it though so look into that.

It isn't something you can do yourself. I'm not sure where you are in the world but you'll need to find a professional who can do it for you. If you're in the US I hear good things about Mobiletechvideos, I don't think they have a web site but they're on YouTube and Facebook.
