hey guys ...
I recently found a camera app called "OPEN CAMERA" and it's Completely free and ad-free, unlike most Android apps. Open Source.
tested on : ( Resurrection Remix LP "AOSP" , and CloudyG3 2.2 "stock" )
Description :
Open Camera is a fully featured and completely free Camera app for Android phones and tablets. Features:
* Option to auto-stabilize so your pictures are perfectly level no matter what (see example image).
* Zoom via multi-touch gesture and single-touch control.
* Touch to select focus area and metering area (metering area is used to determine exposure).
* Support for flash, torch, focus modes, scene modes, color effects, white balance, ISO, exposure compensation, exposure lock, face detection.
* Video recording (with optional audio, and support for video stabilization).
* Option to lock orientation to portrait or landscape for photo or video.
* Timer.
* Auto-repeat mode, with configurable delay.
* Optimise GUI for left or right-handed users.
* Configurable volume keys.
* Choice of save folder (though note Google have blocked write access to external SD cards in Android 4.4, see http://bit.ly/1eTBWCx ).

The g3 doesn't have the hardware capable of supporting camera2api, so you would be correct.
Either way, I love trying new camera apps so I'm gonna give this a whirl!
very good application, I prefer xcam but your app is fine too.

I've been looking for an app with real manual focus but I can't find any, I've tried FV-5 and couple others but none of them have actual manual focusing. I'm not looking for touch focus where you select the object you want to be manually focused, I want an app with some kind of slider where I can just manually focus like using a professional camera where you spin the lens to adjust the focus your-self. Anyone knows any app that have this option?
Thanks!

How come? Whats the difference between auto focus and manual focus? Auto focus just runs an algorithm that selects best focus it could find, I don't see a reason why you couldn't set this manually as a simple variable.

Because the apps themselves don't control the focus, the system does

Camera API doesn't allow for manual focus. That's all there is to it.
what about camera API 2.0? they are supposed to release controls for a lot of functions

Possibly but I doubt it.
L will provide.
Many of the finer control configurations can also be modified, including:
Exposure time
ISO Sensitivity
Frame duration
Lens focus distance
Flash trigger
Color correction matrix
JPEG metadata
Tonemap curve
Crop region
AE / AF / AWB mode
AE / AWB lock
AF trigger
Precapture AE trigger
Metering regions
Exposure compensation
Target FPS range
Capture intent
Video stabilization
AFAIK there is no third party camera app with those function supported on N5,I mean at least ISO/exposure manual setting like other phone did. hope it availble on L

Manual focusing function is available on some Chinese phones. Seems that if you use camera360 and your cellphone supports manual focusing, camera360 will provide this option. Unfortunately I've used MI2 (manufactured by xiaomi), and Nexus5, neither of them seems to support this function.
Time for someone to make this
It'd be awesome. Imagine all those bokeh pics with our Nexus 5

i dont really understand what youre trying to ask. you want an app to "manually" focus, but you dont want to touch to focus on a specific object? youre comparing hardware vs software when youre saying "using a professional camera where you spin the lens focus ring to focus"? . tapping on the screen to select a specific object to focus is technically in your term 'manual' focus. our phones dont have a dedicated hardware knob/switch for such control.
are you looking for something to take photos or shoot videos? if youre talking about photos, google camera already have this feature to select to focus.
I've got focus control via volume keys on standard camera. Think it's due to an xposed module I downloaded. It's a while back but works great. Used it an hour ago

thats not a focus control. thats focusing on the background or foreground. and you can do that without a setting control, if you know how. manual focus is like on a real camera, where you spin the lens until youre focused on what you want.

Handy for some types of photography where you know where the action will take place - things like sports and weddings spring to mind.
You know that the player/bride/whatever will be at a specific location, and you don't want your camera wasting time trying to focus when you know you'll only get one shot.
That feature is available in Lumia phones as well. The manual focus really helps when you want to focus some objects which are very close to the camera. Auto focus and tapping on the object will focus the nearby object for a split second but again it will go out of focus. Manual focus will help in capturing macro images of such objects. I am also looking for such a feature in many camera apps, but could not find it. Hope someone creates an app

Problem is not the rom. Its the api check. Verify error happens when code get used wich not is supported on its android version. Normaly my code implementation is correct because it not get used. But there it preckeck classes if newer classes are contained. Not sure how to workaround that problem. On my old o3d it works.

Version 3.3.126 works well.
The button under take picture button causes FC, (above the take picture button is the switch camera button, below not sure what it does but for me FC.)
Other than that, good work.
Regarding the new UI:
When settings menu is displayed, clicking to the right does not close settings but acts on whatever you are touching, where the settings menu does not cover, i.e. exit button, take picture button, focusing...
And, icons used in Viewer are not very pleasant.
Good work.
Looking forward to see next steps

I came across a thread that claimed it's possible to enable EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) on Nexus 5X through a build.prop line. I was skeptical at first, but when I tried it for myself, it really worked! I immediately thought about the other features our device was mysteriously missing, but are available on the Nexus 6P, which has the same camera. The same day I opened up 5 desktops on my Windows laptop, launched my magic tools and denied sleep for a few days.
Today, I am proud to present Camera X!
Features:
This is a Google Camera mod
Burst mode
To enable, simply disable 'Smart Burst' from the camera app settings.
Smart Burst mode
240fps slow-motion*
Video EIS**
How to enable EIS? **
EIS (electronic image stabilization) is triggered in the camera driver library and is impossible to alter without root access (source code of EIS check, found in 'camera.msm8992.so').
If you are a root user, you can:
Edit your 'build.prop' file (using root file manager or Build Prop Editor app from PlayStore) and add these two lines:
Code:
persist.camera.eis.enable=1
persist.camera.is_mode=4
Use the following flashable ZIP. Thank you synesthete for your work!
You will see 'Camera Settings > Resolution & Quality > Enable video stabilization' after a phone reboot.
NOTE: EIS does not work with 4K video due to hardware limitations!
NOTE: persist lines will have an effect even if you remove them, so set them back to '0' if you want to disable them!
What's IS mode?
Code:
//IS type will be 0 unless EIS is supported. If EIS is supported
//it could either be 1 or 4 depending on the stream and video size
if (setEis) {
if (!m_bEisSupportedSize) {
is_type = IS_TYPE_DIS;
} else {
is_type = IS_TYPE_EIS_2_0;
}
mStreamConfigInfo.is_type = is_type;
} else {
mStreamConfigInfo.is_type = IS_TYPE_NONE;
}
Story behind Camera X:
I have a Nexus 5X. I began by modding Google Camera to think that it's running on a Nexus 6P. Surprisingly, this enabled Burst Mode!
I started digging in. After 2-3 days of sleepless analysis I found where all features reside and how to enable them. I am constantly trying new tweaks and updating my mod accordingly if something is useful.
Why didn't Google enable these features by default? *
While 240fps works, you will notice that the quality is very low compared to the Nexus 6P, especially in low light. This is due to the processing limitations our device has. The bit rate cannot be increased any more than this (at least software-wise).

Wow, it works and it works fine.. I recorded some 240fps videos, no problem! No crashes or FC!
Maybe, we can enable a way (using custom kernels) to make all the cores work at full speed when Camera app is running!
Thanks!!!
BTW can you somehow change the name of the app? Maybe "Camera 6P", that way people wouldn't need to uninstall Camera app (which requires root I think...)
Is there a way to add 4 burst shot without a modded apk?
I was hoping for a simple solution like how adding eis was just a build.prop addition.

I just realized this as I was going to bed yesterday. I use a custom ROM here and Google Camera is not a system app. I can easily change the package name (and icon), but I am not exactly sure how happy Google would be with that. Any law-knowledgeable person can enlighten me, please?

I believe that the interactive governor already does that. One thing we can absolutely do, however, is overclock the CPU for the camera. I will investigate on that, thanks for the suggestion.

It *might* be just possible. As far as I could see the build.prop line for EIS is not checked from within Google Camera, therefore there should be another package responsible for that. The existence of a line for burst mode could be very possible. I will look around for that soon.
Glad to report back that I haven't found any issues so far. I turned off smart burst and tried it out, and I could only store maybe 19 shots with the shutter held down, doesn't bother me much as I don't know what the actual limit of non hdr photos are for burst. I was wondering if there was any way of increasing 240fps bit rate. The fact that 240fps works is already a miracle.
I did some research about this before hand and the snapdragon 808 and 810 share the same throughput so the only thing stopping the 5x from having the same 19Mbps bitrate is probably the CPU and maybe the lack of additional ram might have something to do with it. In either case the best option in my opinion would be a custom kernel working in conjunction with the camera app.
---------- Post added at 09:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 PM ----------
You could also message Gandalf on how he implemented EIS into omnirom. Not sure if he implemented it the same way you did.
In terms of legality, I see users who post modded versions of other apps from companies that will install separately from the original app, e.g., Moto Cam, by changing the package name. I don't see why you couldn't since it isn't a paid app
It would be cool if you did upload one that doesn't require uninstalling the system app for those who do not have and do not want to root

You have to be rooted and with a root explorer delete /system/app/Camera folder. You can do it with an app but I don't know which one uninstall system apps.

awesome thanks! that worked. I used an app called System app remover (ROOT)

You have to be rooted and with a root explorer delete /system/app/Camera folder. You can do it with an app but I don't know which one uninstall system apps.

Mod updated! Changelog is in second post. Enjoy!
Would it be possible to add native "smooth motion"
or basically 1080p 60fps into your camera app?

I believe it's totally possible, but it would require a lot of work. I might take a look at that later if I find time, thanks for the suggestion!

How satisfied are you with the camera, do you have a recommendation for some settings?
I'm enjoying yes. use the default setting.
Thanks
Google camera port Poco with Night sight

I had success with GoogleCamera_6.1.021_Potter_v1-san1ty.apk, default settings.
Please post and share link of Motorola One camera apk.
This one is OK for me (Pie).
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/GCam_Pixel3Mod_1.3_build.6.1.021.apk
It works pretty well.
Not working:
- HDR off
- HDR+ advanced sometimes gives unrealistic colors
- slow motion makes the app crashes
- motion photo works in 16:9 only
- photo sphere seems to break the orientation

Love the "night mode". Motorola One, Android Pie 9, Feb 2019 security patch.

Hey guys! I'm considering getting this phone for my wife, so I'm wondering if the HAL3 is enabled by default like on Nokia phones (and if yes on what level) or it needs to be enabled via adb?

You don't need to enable anything: Moto One has the maximum level of hw support for camera2 api.
See attached "Camera2 probe" screenshot.

I forgot to mention that time exposure is limited to 1/3s (the Nokia one is up to 4s, I presume).
The lack of optical (or even digital) stabilization, further limits the usable range of time exposure, unless you use a tripod...

Hi everyone,
Which (stable) version of Google camera can be used on moto one stock pie?
Thanks.
I am currently using this:
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/GCam_6.1.021_Advanced_V1.5.190418.1850.apk
I tried several versions and this one is good enough (the best I have found, in my opinion). Slow motion even works.
Main bugs:
- no Google lens menu
- poor quality audio
- WB not working.
If you decide to go for this one, the first time you'll open it you have to select the shortcut "take a selfie". The following times, you can simply tap the icon, as usual.

2. long press the app icon and select the shortcut "Take a selfie"
3. give all the permissions
Now you are ready to use it.

Any working gcam with touch focus ?
WARNING: I'VE TESTED THIS GUIDE ON STOCK FIRMWARE (OREO AND PIE) ONLY
Hey, just a moment before reading: did I help you? Then consider paying me a coffee or anything for my effort of course this isn't mandatory!
UPDATE: the reddit thread is dead! It will now only link to this guide since updating the same guide two times is pretty useless!
This is an expanded guide for all those people which want to reach the maximum camera quality on their X4.
Please note that this post is not intended to give advices on how to get the best shots on GCAM (but you can do it in comment or ask me, no prob!), but on how to get the best working GCAM possible setup! In other words I won't suggest parameters for HDR+ or Saturation, or custom libs etc...
FOA why you should choose Google Camera instead of the Motorola one? Well I think the following shots speak for themselves:
Cropped detail of an HDR shot:
Moto Camera HDR (taken with wide lens)
Google Camera HDR+ (taken with wide lens)
If you'd like to see more examples just look at this HQ album, you'll be amazed by the details.
Another field in which you can really apprecciate the potential of this camera is the selfie and portrait one. I will spare you from looking at my selfies (you can find one in the previous gallery), so just trust me, or do some googling!
What you need to do in order to use the GCAM on your X4 really depends on what you want to achieve:
1) GCAM 6.2.0.30 for normal lens
- Root needed: NO
- Unlocked Bootloader needed: NO
GCAM 6.2.0.30 adds Time-Lapse feature, and you can simply install it and it will run. There's a lot of ports avaiable, my suggestion goes to this one. Please remember that all the rights belong to Arnova, the original developer.
A couple of things must be tuned in order to get the best experience, so head up to the app settings and:
- on "About" check "advanced options"
- on HDR+ Options:
1) Disabled AWBGains Mod -> ON
2) RAW Format -> RAW10
3) Image Format -> YUV_420_888
4) GCAM wb Mode -> ON
Also, I suggest you to check the "Saturation adjustements" section, because this version really oversaturates photos. Try what levels are the best for you, in my case they were 1.0 - 1.0 for back camera and 1.1 - 1.3 for front camera.
2) GCAM 6.2.0.30 for wide lens
- Root needed: NOT NECESSARILY
- Unlocked Bootloader needed: YES
This is the 6.2.0.30 GCamera with Wide Lens support.
The apk is the same one
After the installation you must enter the package name (org.codeaurora.snapcam)inside the followind /system/build.prop lines:
1) vendor.camera.aux.packagelist
2) vendor.camera.aux.packagelist2
3) ro.camera.cfa.packagelist
You can do this either with a privileged file manager (i.e.: Solid) or with adb pull.
Then activate "Enable aux button" in Settings, and a little tree icon will pop up, allowing you to switch lens.

FAQ:
Q: What works in these ports?
A: The following features are fully working:
- HDR +
- Portrait
- PhotoSphere
- Night Sight- Panoramic
- Video
- Slow Motion
- Pixel 2/3 AWB
- TimeLapse
- Motion
Q: What about AR?
A: I'm not interested in it and haven't checked, so I can't assure you that it will work
Q: 60fps videos aren't in 60fps?
A: You can shoot in 60fps by disabling video stabilization in Settings, otherwise 60fps videos will drops to nearly 28-30fps.
Q: Why does my selfie looks purple/green/any other ****ty color?
A: In that case just head over Input model in your port settings and change the front camera model (in my case to Nexus 6P with 6.1 and Pixel 3 for 6.2, but just try). This port also have specific fixes for certain titn problems
Q: I can't even start the camera!
A: this can happen on some devices. To fix try the following: long press on the app icon and use the "take a selfie" shortcut. Wait a moment and the camera should work, allowing you to use it in future just by opening it normally. If it is black even via the selfie shortcut long press the switch camera button, it should work. This procedure must he done only one time!
Q: The 6.2 ports gives me some weird greenish/yellowish balance in photos.
A: This is a problem with Pixel AWB. It reduces chromatic shifts to give you more natural photos, but it can ruin other ones. It usually happens when you are pointing an object which has an intense illumination behind it. If your port allows it just disable it, otherwise select from the viewfinder another White Balancement mode (Cloudy works best for my tastes). Pixel 2 AWB should be the best anyway, and I almost never encounter problems.
Q: Can't install the apk
A: Delete the old version before re-installing.

Need root for it, just download any version compatible with wide lens and put the package name on this line inside build.prop:
vendor.camera.aux.packagelist2
Hi there!
Anybody has any idea why gcam (MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V1a_xcam_0.apk) does not want to take any shots without HDR?? I remember gcam 5.1 working fine without HDR and the shutter speed was obvs way faster. So sometimes I want to take a fast shot and gcam 6.1 won't let me. I already tried changing the input model.
Thanks!
UPDATE: for those who want GCAM 6.1 with Night Sight I updated the suggested apk, with one that looks more stable (the old one used to crash rarely on my phone).

In case anyone had any trouble editing the build.prop remove the following space:
vendor.camera.aux.packagelist2=com.motorola.ccc,co(THIS SPACE)m.dual.GCam,com.motorola.camera2
I realized it while typing, but if you only copy and paste you might not.
With all these camera mods, is there anyway to verify the security of them? I don't think I have ever had problems with an XDA app but these are all hosted offsite.

I don't really check it, cause that's the official repo for the gcam ports, and all the developers (like Arnova etc..) are well known here.

2) Open up the buid.prop file (located in /system/system/). You can either do this by an adb pull command (after booting a custom recovery like TWRP) or with a privileged file manager if you're rooted. In the build.prop you must add the following line (or edit it, if already present): vendor.camera.aux.packagelist2=com.motorola.ccc,com.dual.GCam,com.motorola.camera2

Had to remove the space as well, Night Sight works wonders!
I installed option 2 and the rear cam has a yellowish tint. Is there a fix?
Hi, just tried this out on my new moto x4 (The second one with night sight) and it works pretty smoothly. I was just wondering if there was a way to enable the actual front facing flash for selfies and not just brighten the screen up like it does on default (in the recommended app at least)
ALL i want to do is have the stock camera default to manual mode... Or at least REMAIN in manual mode after I set it to that so I don't have to switch to manual every single time I start the camera app. The Auto settings on the stock camera are GARBAGE compared to my Moto X2 (2nd Gen).
Thanks a ton
