Upgrade for Wifey - X 2014 Accessories

My wife's first smart phone was the OG Moto X, she loved it so decided to upgrade her this week.
Got the 64gb wood back 2014 model.
I already got her the tempered glass but I'm so confused on what to do with the case.
Obviously I don't want to civet that gorgeous back but I don't see any good clear cases.. Or should I just go with a bumper? She has been known to be a little clumsy, plus we have toddlers so I don't want anything too flimsy.
Any recommendations? Thanks

The wood back is pretty sturdy - I have it on my OG Moto X with a bumper and it never scratched. It is not slippery either.
I would get her a bumper or if you want a clear case, the case-mate naked tough case is nice.

I second the naked tough case. I have it on my 64gb pure with the wood back. A little smooth and can be slippery, but the humid summer should help out with that.

On reddit there is a case thread started by someone with a wood backed Moto X.

[Q] UAG or Otterbox Defender?

I'm going to be replacing my old M7 for an M9 pretty soon, and I want to have a case ready for it the second I buy it. I can't decide whether I should get the UAG case, or stick with the otterbox defender like I have with my last 2 phones. The otterbox has only let me down once, when it fell off of holster and got run over by a truck because I didn't make sure it was in there securely, and I don't exactly expect any case to stand up to that. The new defender also looks hideous in my opinion.
That being said, I've heard a LOT of good things about the UAG cases, and I absolutely love the industrial look it has to it.
I work as a mechanic and need to make sure I have a durable case should this phone ever fall, for example, off of a car lift and on to a concrete floor (6-8 foot drop). And in this exact scenario I've never had to worry about my phone when its in an otterbox. I need to make sure I have a case durable enough that I can chuck my phone across a room and not worry about it being damaged, as I can with the Defender on my current M7.
So for anyone that has one, or even both of these cases, which one would be the better option? Does the UAG compare to the defender as far as protection?
And if I go for the UAG, can anyone recommend a good Holster/hipcase for it, since it doesn't appear to come with one like the otterbox?
Edit: If anyone has another case to recommend I'm open to that as well!
Edit2: I also just found this Poetic case, has anyone tried it out? I have a poetic folio case for my Nexus 7 that I really,. really like, but does this offer good enough protection?
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-One-Case-...sbs_cps_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=0JB4GWJ85SBTVCHM61VT
Edit3: And another one I just came across that looks promising, not a brand I'm familiar with. Maybe someone has used this one, or another one similar to it before?

I've always been a commuter fan but sprung for a UAG this time round. While I think UAG will suffice for my needs, I would go for another otter box if I would pick again. Doesn't feel like enough shock absorption in the back of the phone

The UAG case looks 100% better than the Otterbox Defender case, but I have no idea how it would hold up in an industrial environment. I opted for the Defender because its what I've used going back to the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC M7, HTC M8, and now my HTC M9... And the defender case, despite all its short comings, has never let me down. I am in and out of a semi truck all day, in and out of factories frequently, and pulling the phone out of my pocket quite a bit throughout most days, so I need something protective, not that just looks good.
But, as I said, I have not had any experience with the UAG case, so I would also be interested in the durability of the case in dropped scenarios.
I had UAG on my M7, but for my M9, I'm waiting for UAG to come out with different colors. That is if they ever decide to make them. I like the Aero (blue color) case, so hoping they decide to make that one for the M9. Right now I'm using the Spigen Neo Hybrid for the time being.
I've seen the otterbox and it just looks too plain to me. Just my opinion, of course

Ive heard the UAG is supposed to be pretty durable as far as drop tests, but Im looking for a little more feedback than your standard tech website review of it, rather someone who actually owns it and has experienced it firsthand. Ideally someone who has used both.

I really want to go with a UAG because it looks so much better, but I need to make sure I'm still getting good protection from it as well, because the new defender just looks absolutely hideous.
Also, votes now at 4 v 4, Democracy strikes again.

For my purposes, the UAG provides excellent protection all around. Of course, it all depends on what environment you subject the phone to. In your case, it might be best to try both and make a decision that way.
Everyone will have subjective views on the cases and each scenario will be different. It's just a matter of which case will provide you with the peace of mind you are looking for, and only you can make that decision.
I hope you get the answer you are looking for. I'm sure both cases are great in their own right and both will have their pros and cons. Tough decision for sure.
I Pre Ordered the UAG ASH model for my M9 Coming from the UAG Maverick on my M8. I love the case and I loved it on my M8 as well.
The case looks great and I dropped my M8 enough times to know how tough the UAG cases are. NO Brainer.

Even though I already have the Otterbox, I'm considering getting the UAG as well. The screen protector on the Otterbox usually ends up with scratches after a few months of use, the rubber outer shell loses its shape and becomes lose fitting(although it can be slightly shrunk by boiling it for a tighter fit again), and the inner hard shell tends to have areas that don't snap snug together and creaks when pressure is applied. Its still a very good case but definitely has its flaws.
So, the UAG having the same ruggedness type of design, I think I'll give it a shot, although I won't be able to pick it up at the house for a few weeks. The only con I can see is that the UAG is lacking a holster like you stated. I have no idea if there is a holster that will work with it.
Sorry I am of no help on the UAG case, but I can say the Otterbox gives sufficient protection still, and the look grows on you... but it is no where's as nice looking as the UAG case.

I love the defender on the M7 I'm using currently, but I punched out the screen protector and took it to my local mall and had ghost armor put on my screen. (paid them 5$ to install it because I ALWAYS end up with bubbles when I do it), I absolutely love ghost armor and I'll be getting it done on the M9 when I pick it up as well.

Yeah, I may do that with my M9 when the front plastic gets scratched up. Or I may not do it, just remove the plastic; I never put a screen protector on my M8, and it did fine.
Defender with mod
The day I bought my m9 I went and grabbed the defender case. I like the fact that it's easily available, customer service is good and since my evo3d never let me down. The one thing I do change is the screen protector. I rip the plastic out and put a glass one in because it feels better. But I also know as ugly as some people think it is I never had to worry about using it with dirty hands and messing with colors. It just wipes clean every time. Shade tree mechanic here.
I had a defender on my S4, and same thing happened, fell off my holster, and was run over by a bus. The screen was smashed, but the phone still functioned. I was able to connect to PC and copy files off. The phone when turned on, and on WiFi still receives emails and notifications, just can't use it. I was using it as a way of charging a spare battery for the S4 replacement.
Have a Spigen Neo Hybrid for my M9 and am thinking of getting a defender for it, just to cover the screen.
UAG has my highest regards, I had can confirm their cases are heavy duty. I had one for my M7 and dropped my phone multiple times out of a firetruck so about a 10ft drop and never had a problem. I loved the feel of M7 case. The M9 UAG case looks bada$$ but i just didn't like how it felt on my M9. As for its build I feel it is just as tough as the M7 case.
As for the case I'm using now i got the Spigen Neo Hybrid, its not as tough as either the UAG or Defender case but it feels nice and looks awesome.
I'd go for the Otterbox. The last UAG case I had was a simple one shell design and wasn't very rugged at all. I would imagine the 3 layer design of the Otterbox will be much better for protection.
I always use the supcase alternative, it's cheaper and I think they are better made than otter box. The screen protectors suck but are glued in and just pop off so I replace with a glass one

Is there a separate TPU part, or is it pretty much molded into the harder plastic? The Defender has the solid interior plastic surrounded by the soft cover (three pieces rather than the two of the supcase).

Do you have the defender? If so can you tell me how flush the screen protector is to the screen? The defender on the m7 and m8 both had horrible gaps which made the touch screen much more difficult to use.
Built in screen protectors are usually pretty bad, at least all of the otterbox ones I've had were. You're better off punching it out and getting a separate one.

I got a defender the day I got my M9. Main reason was the belt holster. Working as a mechanic I tend to get sweaty and I hate putting my phone in my sweaty pockets. Holster fixes that problem. The screen guard doesn't have a huge gap, but there is a gap. I can't see it nor does it seem to hurt the way the screen looks but I can feel it when I type.

Where are the cases?

Pre ordered the Moto X Pure. But looking for a nice tpu or bybrid case. Usually, there's a lot of cases available for a phone before the phone releases. But not the Pure/Style. I know there's a a few on amazon etc... But those cases are junk. Cheap made and will fall apart in a week. I see that incipio has one and ugly otterbox. But never really liked incipio and otterbox. But where are, seidio, Griffin, Belkin, UAG, Spigen???
I doubt UAG will have a case for the moto x pure but I would love it if they did.

Most of the high quality, big name companies didn't make for the previous 2nd Generation model, so they probably aren't for this. Maybe they have some kind of pay to play scheme and Moto isn't paying.
Well, for right now, I went for the MoKo. Less then $10. Hope it will hold till UAG or Spigen releases one. Or Supcase...

People seem to like the variant of it for the Moto G or whatever. The Amazon reviews are about the best feedback you're going to get for the moment. I bought a number of $3-4+shipping cases myself. I don't feel like buying a $30 Incipio case at the moment... And my old phone is still using a cheap case I put on it back in 2012, so I've had good experiences with the cheaper ones anyway.

It will hold. I have had that case for quite a few phones. It is just a bit bulky. I like it for phones under 5 inches and it was OK on the 2014 moto X.

Has anyone seen any cases like the flip shell for the Moto G? Most of these add to the already bulky look of the phone (and don't protect the screen).
I ordered this one (http://amzn.com/B013HSX5L2). I'm actually looking forward to the transparent back. I got the Ash wood back.
I ordered this case before my MXP arrived and had it waiting. I wish it was a little snugger fit, but it'll do for $8 shipped until something better comes along.

I just got my Moko. I'm not a fan. So far it seems well made, but the holster is backwards when I wear it on my left side.
In addition, it's off-center, so I'm always putting the phone in the wrong way, and the phone can't go in with screen facing out, which makes the the much more stable holster clipstand useless.

Waiting for my SUPCASE Hybrid to come in. Looking into getting a Seidio Note 4 or Note 5 holster since the Note 4/5 is about the same size as MXPE. I think there is a 0.02mm difference between Surface version and Dilex.

Hi,
Just received the Incipio DualPro case. Fit is good, buttons respond well.
Decent dual layer protection. Back is a little slick/slippery.
I'll use it for a while and see how I like it,

Here it is: http://www.incipio.com/cases/smartp...ualpro-case-motorola-moto-x-pure-edition.html
I got the incipio octane and i really like it. The incipio dual pro is too slick to hold on to though
Does anyone have a pic of the Incipio Octane with frost back?
I'll give you a thank for it lol
Are there any bumpers besides the one that comes in the box..preferably TPU? The one that comes with the phone is a hard plastic that makes the vibration super loud on a desk, but I also don't want to cover the case with a full back.
Anybody found one?

Thanks for the link, finally a nice bumper case that will protect my phone and I can still enjoy my red leather back.

Cases available UK?

I can't seem to find any in stock. What have people done for the time being?
I bought a quartz case from google and some dirt cheap film screen protectors from ebay until the tempered glass reviews start coming in as people get and fit their's and see if they play nice with the official case.
I will then buy a tempered glass that goes with the official case or the spigen film screen protector when it releases if none do.
I will also get a dbrand skin and use that and the official case on top sometimes.
Still awaiting my case from Google, phone is proving to be slippery without. Scared to take the damn thing outside!
I bought one of these Moko until the Spigen's arrive. I'm still thinking about one from Cover-Up for something a little different.
I bought this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B015X4Z9BW/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It fits well and gives great protection. However I'm only using it until this arrives as I love a naked phone: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015YGF478?redirect=true&ref_=ya_st_dp_summary
The 6p is so gorgeous without a case, it's a shame to cover it up.

Poetic Affinity Case Review

Hello All
I just received the Poetic Affinity Case for the Moto X Pure in the mail and wanted to do a review.
The case is dual material clear see thru tpu with hardened plastic black bumpers. It's perfect for the Moto X Pure because you can still show off your personally designed backing/color because its clear see through, while providing plenty of protection.
The fit is firm, but does not add too much bulk. The bumpers on this case are the perfect combination of grip with ribbed edges along with specific corner drop protection.
Ports and cut outs fit just right. The one thing I specifically look for in a case is to see if the power and volume buttons are too hard too push. This is NOT a problem with the Poetic Affinity Case. The buttons are probably the best iv seen on any case iv ever owned.
Branding wise, There's a small Poetic emblem in the very middle right below the Moto X camera dimple cut out, 'POETIC' very small on the bottom edge, and the words 'AFFINITY' a bit bigger on the side edge. Not overkill at all, however.
This was the first Poetic product iv owned and to be honest, Of the 4 cases I have for this current phone, plain and simple, its the best.
Here's the link if you want to check it out.

Just got one based on your review and I'm pretty happy with it. I hope it really protects the phone when I eventually drop it. I got the all-clear one, I like to personalize my phone by printing out graphics and attaching them to the back of the phone. This makes it easy and I don't have to worry about the printed graphic wearing because it's under the clear case.

I just ordered one of these last night myself. $9 on ebay. I'm excited.
Pretty happy with it myself. It's no UAG, but decent protection. The rear side is however very prone to scratching, and after a while looks dull.
I'm happy with mine as well. As mentioned the back does get fine scratches fairly easily but I've dropped mine a few times now with no damage whatsoever.
How well does this case protect the screen during a drop?
My wife had been carrying her MXPE with teh OE bumper but when it broke she just carried it as is, and it finally made her regret that decision.
She likes this one because its clear and allows you to see the color/material she chose when she ordered it.
Thanks Sheetzie for sharing this review of Affinity case!:good:
I was looking for a durable transparent case for my X Style, will now order this soon.

A better case. Soft Gel (Jelly) Hard back reinforcment?

Recently, I bought this case from Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0762F2T19/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's fine, but a bit slippery. My old Motorola RAZR M had a case that was very soft silicone with a clip on hard plastic back that protected the phone VERY well over the last 5 years of use. It also didn't slip out of my shirt pocket.
It had a nice fat lip on the front so you could place the phone face down without harming the glass.
See attached photos.
Does this type of case even exist for the PH-1? Even the Tudia case I have in a softer more "grippy" silicone would be better.

Rick, I know exactly what type of case you're looking for, as I've been searching all over for one as well. You're not alone. Your photos and description of your Moto case look similar to the Ballistic brand case I had on my Samsung Galaxy S2 that protected it so well, that when I took it off last month after 6 years of daily use, the S2 still appeared brand new. Upgrading from the Galaxy S2 to an Essential PH-1 was quite a jump, and I was hoping to have that same level of protection, but alas I cannot find it either.
Hopefully Ballistic or Tudia will step up eventually and offer bulkier, thicker-built rubber and hard-wrapped cases for the PH-1 for use in more rugged environments. I have the Tudia TAMM case, but it feels too thin and flimsy for any kind of real protection from the types of environments that I work and play in. For now, it is better than nothing.
ApptMtneer,
You are SO correct! My RAZR M still looks new after almost 6 years of daily, in the shirt pocket) use. I really hope that one of these comes out. They tend to be relatively inexpensive as well. I bought two for my RAZR M (just in case!) and still have a brand new on in the packaging.
If you see one, let me know. i will do the same.
