I want to find the installed app folder in my xperia Z3, but I can't seem to find an answer...
I have the file manager installed with root access and I want to change my apps configuration, but I only found .apk app packages in root/data/app folder and it seems to be uneditable. I used to have an jailbroken iPhone with iFile, and it was pretty easy to navigate in there for editing strings in xml applications.
Please help xda team, thanks!! :highfive:

check out this directory
/data/data/[package of app]/...
Or
/System/app|priv-app
could u pls explain what do u wanna do exactly?
:good:
I want to change in game things, like level difficulty, high score registry, etc.
In /data/data/ I found a bunch of com. files (com.android, com.google) and much of them are empty, and in the /System/app|priv-app folders I found .apk and .odex system apps (camera, calculator, etc)

if this is in the wrong place mods i am sorry so feel free to move to the right place at your discretion as i am not sure where this question would go.
is there an easy to understand way to make an app that would install 1 specific file to a specific folder on the system (/data/local). im no coder so i have no idea how to do this but i want to make an app that is simple and basic so that when a user opens the app it's only function is to install a certain file into the /data/local folder
Couldn't you just use Root Explorer to do this? I would think there would be a way to do this with Tasker, but I'm not really familiar with the app. I tried out the trial (available on the Tasker website) and learned a little about how to work it, but ultimately realized that there wasn't much that I'd use it for.
I'm sure if you gave your intentions - what file for what reasons, etc - you'd be more likely to get a solution.

i use root explorer for my own phones but i create custom boot animations and i am lookign for a way to make an App that would include (X) bootanimation, and upon downloading/installing it he app would automaticly install the bootanimation.zip file that its bundled with into the users /data/local folder, as some people dont have the tools or abilitys/familierty with the there phone to move the bootanimation to where it needs to be to actually work.
Hi. I just found out that apk files are kept in the device after installation of the app.
I just recently downloaded a file explorer app and I found out that the apk files of the free games which I downloaded and installed from android market are kept in this folder:
/mnt/asec (I'm using Samsung Galaxy Ace)
There are individual folders for each game, and in each folder are a lib folder and the apk file. For example:
Fruit Ninja folder (which is found in mnt/asec folder) contains a lib folder and an apk file.
Fruit Slice folder (which is also found in mnt/asec folder) contains a lib folder and an apk file.
My question is, is it ok to delete these apk files? Will the games still work?
Also, can I send these apk files to someone else via bluetooth so they may download the apps without having to visit android market?
yeah you can delete the apk file after installing any app for it to still function, I do it all the time. Yes you can send the apk file to your friend so they can install it. If you're still cautious, try doing a trial run with one apk file...send it to your friend first, then delete, see if it works.
The .apk files are like setup files for windows. Once installed, you don't need the apk, especially if you are backing up with Titanium or similar backup program.
follow up question
Hi. Thanks guys.
Is everything from the android market ".apk"? Is it possible that some have a different extension? I downloaded a dictionary app, I can't be sure but I think it's a .zip file.
Thank you.
pakattack
I tried to delete the apk file. It cannot be deleted.
However, I copied it to my sd card, uninstalled the app, re-installed it using the one already in my sdcard, and it installed just fine.
I still want to be able to delete the apk file that is in the system though (/mnt/asec).
Any ideas or do I just have to deal with it?

correctly.. correct me if I'm wrong Thank You
WillShaka, like I said, I tried to delete it. I can't. Not allowed.
I don't know why. I'm using ES File explorer
not sure if this works but have you tried unmounting the sd and delete?

Also, and I don't mean to veer out of topic (this question is often ignored in Q&A forum), if I use Odin to upgrade my stock firmware instead of using Kies, will it erase all my data? I have a feeling it will...

Just tried it. Doesn't work, but thanks for suggesting. =)
Yes, you can delete the APK after installation. But the APKs in /system/app/ need to stay where they are to function appropriately

Hello, is there a way to copy a Samsung app (e.g. Email in Galaxy Ace 2) to another device of different brand?

Yes you can. If you can identify the .apk file of a certain application, you can simply copy it to
another device and install there.
This is something I used to do whenever I see my friends mobiles. I will checkout if they have any cool
App. If I like any, I will find out the installation file (.apk extension) and I will Bluetooth/superbeam it to my mobile
and install...as simple as that...
And my easiest way to find the apk file is "just search for 'apk' in file explorer"....

This simply does not work for the Sammy apps they are kinda rigged to the framework .
One must heavily modify the apps to make them work on non Sammy ROMs
This is the reason why non of the sense apps are ported to CM ROMs
sorry for any ty¶°s

That's what I was afraid of.. Because I've tried copying the samsung mail app in different ways to my ZTE (apk copy, titanium backup etc) and none of them did work. I also tried copying the exchange app but no luck either.

One simply isn't able to port Sammy apps without going full retard

Have you tried direct copy inside system? Since you said you've tried Titanium Backup, it means your device has been rooted right?
Enter your system and change its permission to copy the application there into your memory card... hope it works...
First, you need ROOT access to do this. It will fix the security force-close and enable the uninstall of apps.
1 - Download FIXV2 here - http://d-h.st/gMh
2 - Extract the file to your desktop and copy the files inside "FIRMWARE\IMAGE" folder to your phone.
3 - Download root explorer from play store and move those files to the firmware\image directory located on your phone.
4 - Long press each file and set permition to RW-R-R (0644) (You do this by selecting OWNER to read and write, GROUP to read and OTHERS to read.
5 - Reboot and try accessing settings.
Thanks to ferreinf for the link and how to do it, I just tried to do this as much newbie proof as possible.
have seen this problem in numerous ROM threads(haven't myself run into this), thanks for the heads up :thumbs up:

No, it has nothing to do with what you want and there's absolutely no point in doing what wanna do either. You can not reclaim the free space to yourself and that would yet prevent you from installing OTA updates. The best way around this is to unable the system apps you don't wanna run.

Worked for me to get the nexus g+ rom working fully... used root browsed in ROM Toolbox to copy the files to the relevant folder off root, and set all the permissions to rwx.
fellaws i want to replace my stock apps with the advanced ones available on google play like my files with es file explorer. but when i install it the es file explorer is added instead of replacing the old my files app. this is just an example. i want many other apps replaced.
i am using custom rom with rooted samsung 5670.
please tell me the method.

Installing one app, does not replace another app. If it is a newer version of the same app, then it will update the old one.
You can install all the file explorers you find on the play store, and you will have all of them installed at the end and they won't replace each other.
The only solution is to uninstall the app you don't want. In your case: My Files.
But My Files is a system app (talking about a samsung tw rom?) and you can't uninstall it normally. You are rooted so you can uninstall it. Use an app like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp
There are many more like it.
Beware though, if you uninstall critical system apps, your phone might not work properly any more. Make sure you know what you're doing.
And also, you won't be able to remove some apps for various reasons.
Edit: One other way to remove system apps is to use a browser like Root Explorer or Root Browser, navigate to the location: /system/app or /system/priv-app and remove the app from there. But again: USE CAUTION!!
Cheers
Replace apps
thank you for your reply.
i know how to uninstall system apps with my rooted phone. now let me explain to you my real problem.
i have some files which i want hidden. now the ES Explorer does the task and requires password to show hidden files . BUT anyone can see them using the option in "my files" that is "show hidden files" . Hence it is an application that nulls the security enhancement provided by the ES file Explorer:crying:.
so i thought that i should uninstall the "my files" app but when i did this, other apps like Camera and Gallery stopped working and i had to re-install the "my files" app.
But i have seen custom Roms in which one or two stock apps are replaced by other advanced apps. Can you tell me the process?

Unfortunately no. I do not know all the dependencies between apps. And I don't think you can change dependencies for an app. These are hardcoded inside the app itself. As an example, I have a galaxy s4 and use custom ROMS based on cyanogenmod. It's impossible to have the camera app from the stock Samsung rom because of the dependencies required for the app to run.
I think you need to find a different approach. Try maybe protecting them somehow instead of hiding them
Good luck
