Hi all
I'm going to buy soon a new smartphone, but I have to decide between the Galaxy S5 and the LG G3. I'm ok with the size, screen and look of both. What I really care about is the performance(frame rate in games, UI and general smoothness), the battery, and the camera. I'll mostly do images in day light. Considering this points, which of them would you recommend to me ?
I would prefer G3

I'd say G3 also unless it's a international unlocked version. At least you can unlock the bootloader on the G3

Hey guys I'm lookin' forward to get a new smartphone [I already own a chinese brand but I'm not that satisfied with it and I think I'll make it a gift for my aunt or grandmother, it's pretty awesome though].
So I'm thinking about the LG G2 but I'm not really sure if it's worth it in comparison to the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 seems to be much cheaper than the G2 (even though I've seen them at same price on some websites).
I like casual gaming, music and internet browsing.
So, with respect to the software, daily use, apps, screen, resistance, price and performance, which is the best choice?
Thank you.

Someone said this in the other thread made today on this exact subject...
Want battery life, G2
Want quickest updates, N5.
That's about the big 2 differences.

I have both, and you have to decide what you want from a phone. Nexus lacks many of the "gimmick" features like Smart Stay, and IR blaster. I was able to get a ROM that got me close to stock android on the G2. But as has been said before- if you're a flash a holic you may want to stick with the Nexus. I've stopped judging phones by their features and judge them instead by their ability to provide me with what I want to do.
Example: I bought a Note 3 on the day of release because I wanted the bleeding edge tech, but within 2 months I sold it and went back to my GNex because of the amount of development from Android Devs and Ubuntu. In the end it's about what you want out of the phone.
So I'm due for an upgrade on our company verizon plan soon. I'm really struggling on what to settle on.
I've been a big Samsung fan for my last 4 phones, Captivate, Vibrant, GS2, GS3, etc. but I've wanted to see if the grass is greener on any other top brands like LG and motorola.
Here's what I've been looking at. LG G3, S5, Droid Turbo, Note 4.
Should I be looking at some other diamond in the rough? Should I hold out for a newer phone soon to be released?
Root and developer support is important but not crucial. My work related apps are sometimes broken on root and custom ROM's.
Thanks!

The Turbo and Note 4 are the next-gen phones you listed. Go with either of those.

I am also strongly considering the moto x 2nd gen 32gb version. I like the bare android look and feel. No touch wiz, sense, etc.

hi
i was thinking to upgrade from LG g3.. i'm hesitating buying s6 or note 4..
s6 is overally better but i'm a fan of aosp roms.. (i wont change a lot of roms.. just settle on a stable one)
so can i hope s6 gets aosp roms in future? or i should pick an out dated note 4 .....
thank you for helping me
If your considering a Note 4 why not wait for the upcoming Note 5. Also consider the LG G4 or the upcoming LG G4 Pro since your from the G3.

well note5 isn't announced yet.. and it'll very expensive i think.. and about g4... i'm not satisfied with the battery of g3.. and g4 is even worse..
you mean there's no hope for s6 getting aosp roms?
Not sure if they will introduced a google edition S6. Best you can do is install google launcher from playstore. Get your S6. Its a great phone. I am enjoying mine every single day.
Just announced at CES 2015 that the G Flex 2 is confirmed to be getting Android 6.0 AKA Marshmallow! Here is a link:
http://www.slashgear.com/android-marshmallow-update-coming-to-lg-g4-g3-not-g2-27399720/
So the phone is definitely not dead, surprised that the G3 might not get the update, for those who was debating between these two phones.
Well, low popularity doesn't mean dead. It's barely half a year old anyway. Great news indeed though.

Well these are great news !
I just got the H959 TWN version. I think I love it more than my G4 H815 except the Camera.
Flex 2 is so much more snappier than G4 and surprising not as hot the G4. The Curve and the RED back cover is nice. I don't really miss the leather back. Now I have 2 devices to play with. Best of the Best LG .......Life's Good!
Ya, I made a post a few days ago about it getting gooey goodness. This phone is a beast. I love it.
Of course this phone is going to get it. It's still new and just came out this year if there was folks thinking the opposite then idk what to say. Now the big question is when do you think this device is planning on getting 6.0? That's the big question, so far I've been running Android M on my nexus 6 for some time and it is great very nice update and I'm guessing it will roll out and be official around October or somewhere around there so I'm curious to know how long from there will it take the flex 2bto get it.
Good news will be when I find this fcking phone on ebay <270$ :'(
Anyway its good, but lock bootloader deprives custom ROMs.
Indeed good news! Some of us that called the phone "dead " we meant the lack of custom roms and in general the lg,s decision of not unlocking bootloader.
Even with m it will be also dead from developers perspective.

+1 for this hah. I'm also trying to get red one but literally no chance to find it anywhere.

Not feeling too comfortable and confident with the list. G flex? That never got Lollipop. And how easily it was forgotten, I wouldn't be surprised if G Flex 2 is also forgotten.
Kind if crazy how the list is so short. LG needs to unlock their bootloaders really. I don't see how it G4 flagship can keep the publics interest at all. Eeesh.

As I know on LG G4 international you can unlock bootloader, but not for the other versions.
So now I'm with G2 and it doesn't get android 6. I hope I will find G Flex 2 for the good price.

I can not get 6.0 if they will unlock bootloader in 5.1.1. There is lot of bad things on stock rom. Small difference between max and min display light, alarm volume and lot of more mistakes!
Hope this is true. Maybe by then we will have an unlocked bootloader figured out

The high minimum brightness is there for reason. Lower brightness = more grainy display.
I doubt LG will fix that in some update. You can use app called Darker - works great but picture gets more grainy..
Grainy display and no manual camera are my main issues with this phone.
Hey guys i about to puchase the g flex 2 so decided to ask here b4 i do. Knowing that this device is super cheap in my area, i mean really cheap. The alternative i can get with it price will be lg g3. Even s5, note 3 and G4 are more expensive than flex2. Do u guys recommend this device? Does it still overheat? Can i play ppsspp games for an hour on it without issues? Given that I'm presently using a galaxy Note 2 will i see much upgrades on display, camara and ui? Thanks. Waiting for a reply
Any form of reply will be appreciated. Thanks
Buy it !!!!! Update to Marshmallow and enjoy it ! Super fast, not overheat more then other LG for example LG3, great camera, great display .
I used one year LG G3 with Marshmallow, very good phone but I always liked the amoled screen so right now I use an LG G Flex 2 and very satisfied.

I like more the oled over the IPS. The black is black !
For good picture you need a lot of light. No mater what phone you have, in low light situation you can't make perfect pictures.

Nothing against the phone here, but just a warning - I think you probably won't ever get past 5.0.1 - 5.1.1 possibly unavailable unless in America and 6.0 for the H950 is and seems to be nonexistent.

5.1.1 is available for the variant he's getting, the H950. Depending what version your phone ships with, if you get it with 5.0.1 you upgrade to the 5.1.1PR KDZ, and if you get it with 5.1.1 already you just flash a rooted system.img and use it like that. Sadly 6.0 isn't available for us even though they're already on 7.1 but I've had no problems with it yet. Great phone, good battery, faster than the G3, 1080p screen, good camera. Everything you could want.

Exactly, and I meant that he may not get 5.1.1 if he's using the phone outside the US, however I hope he does at least receive that.
Honestly, I feel so bad to see such beautiful hardware being disadvantaged by these software issues, both the specs as well as the design are all so great...
