Hi there,
So I just flashed this ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474878
It was last night, I hopped that battery issue drain by Cell stanby~Android System would be fix, but it didn't worked for me..
I flashed the ROM correctly, everything was OK. Wiped data/cache/dalvik and even formatted /system.
I don't understand why, my battery is really strange, sometimes I lose only 2 or 3% during many hours, other times I lose 20% per hour (with inactiv use).
I never had battery issue before ICS.
I got a Nexus S i9023, I hope some of you gonna be able to help me, I really want to fix that battery !
Best regards,
SpawN-
flash a rom that doesn't suck your battery! Or try some kernels that helps you to save battery
Yea sure, but this ROM was just here for the problem with battery, so it had to fix the problem, but didn't work for me, that's why I don't understand =/

sounds like it could be gremlins, or an app app wreaking havoc. also, apps that need to check for notifications drain battery quickly. i usually turn off all notifications(except gtalk/gmail).
I don't have any apps making annoying notifications, my Wifi and 3G are OFF and I often use Task Killer to kill useless processus.
I read that the porting of 4.0.4 for ns gsm was really smooth and battery save
This ROM wasn't even intended for your phone. All bets are off for stability...forget about battery life.
Seriously, though the behaviour you're seeing may not be the ROM. It could be programs keeping the phone awake during standby. To confirm, there's an app called Better Battery Stats on market (and in the Android Development and Hacking section on these forums) that may be able to help you figure things out.

Hello,
Have you tried to change your RADIO ?
try this kernel *Matr1x* with BLN and voodoo v16.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361477
I think it would be help.
For what i've seen the 4.0.4 version was just a leak so there could be some issue/bug. Maybe is better to stay with a custom Rom+kernel and wait for the update or for a custom kernel based on oficial realease 4.0.4 version.
cheers.
The only battery fix in 4.04 was the android os stats being logged incorrectly, i.e. too high.
That has been fixed in 4.04.
I don't think there ever was a cell standby/android system logging bug.
You may be mistaken.
Hi,
Has anyone else had problems with the battery draining with the new 4.0.4 ? My GF Nexus S was still on 2.3.6 so I got the factory version of 4.0.4 and installed it. I obviously wiped the data/cache/etc. Also I rooted it with the latest superuser.
I'm running the latest nighly of CM9 and everything is perfect, so I thought it was time to give her the sweetness of ICS.
So with all that useless information, has anyone found a fix for the battery drain in 4.0.4?
Thank you,
WarpedMonkeys
Since I installed 4.0.4 my battery lasts up to 20 hours, no problem at all.
I'd suggest manual full wipe with fresh 4.0.3 stock rom and then manual ota update to 4.0.4.
I'm also using matr1x kernel, it's just awesome
Hope it helps

Yeah, me too! Try another ROM. I am currently using CyberGR-MOD|NS.NGN ICS v10 HYBRID and getting superb battery life (and performance, mind you ).

Stock rom is ok, but updating with ota from 2.3.6 to 4.0.4 may lead to bad battery behaviour. Someone says that battery stats wipe could lead to better battery performances, but I think fresh install could do the trick

I used this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445621 and installed:
Android 4.0.4/IMM76D/UCKJ1 Radio/KL1 Bootloader
Official factory fastboot images, must be flashed using fastboot on an unlocked bootloader. Contains recovery, radio, and bootloader.
THESE IMAGES MUST BE FLASHED USING BOOTLOADER VERSION I9020XXKA3
I can't really be more fresh than this. I'll try messing around with her settings, but if it doesn't get better, I'll just flash her the latest CM9 nightly
Check your battery usage, if Android OS is using more than 8-9% after some regular usage, then that's the cause.

Ehhhmmmm... My Android OS usage is always around ~20%, but my battery still lasts ~15 hours. Heavy usage. Are you telling me that it should last even longer?
Anyway, AMOLED screen or sLCD?

Her Android OS is normal...I really don't understand why it's that bad. I'll try doing a full battery cycle.
Updated form 2.3.6 stock to 4.0.4
OTA and battery usage is still OK. Lasts about 1-1.5 days. Permanent Wifi or 3g, internetusage and some gaming-No probs!!!

A full battery cycle could do the trick. Don't let it die, anyway, because it can cause battery wear... Just take it to 10% and recharge it nighttime... You may also wipe battery data before, if you wish...

Check apps like news and weather too. My news and weather app really acted up after my ics update and wouldn't stop pulling data. I had to shut off any automatic updating with that app and it fixed my issue. It might have been temporary but just check your apps.

Alright thank you I'll check those out.
Try Badass Battery monitor . it will give you some good info on whats using your battery. Gives you a % of app usage
Look in play store

OMG thank you, I didn't notice that. Maybe I can get even better battery performance now it was set to update every 1 hour, so it may be not much, but even 1% is good for me!
Heavy battery drain ??? i don't have any issues with it, infact i have not touched my phone for 1 day 6 hours and 25 minutes and my battery dropped from 95% to 82%. My phone was fully charged (didn't go higher then 95%). I am very impressed by the results.
I changed 2 settings:
1. Automatic screen brightness.
2. Turn screen off after 30 seconds.

Do you use 3G to connect to the internet? Never got more than 20 hours on 3G/HSDPA... without even using the phone!
Hello,
my Nexus S was updated automatically to version 4.0.4. I will tell you. My problem is with data. Now I can not open any WWW page in default viewer,Opera sometimes opens some pages but quite rare. I can not get any email in K9 Mail. Update of Google maps took several hours, unfinished, eaten all my battery! Sometimes I am without signal or with bad signal.
It is for sure problem with 4.0.4 because I have unlimited data. So, no FUP in this case.
I was satisfied with 2.3.6. How can I do downgrade without rooting etc. my phone ?

Check your APNs. But they should have come off the simcard when you updated.

Try find out what is hogging your battery/cpu. Download os monitor.
Or just flash a new rom to see if that helps. make a backup first
My Android OS is taking up a whopping 58% of battery used.

Restarting the phone does nothing.
Has anyone had similar problem or know the solution?

Download better battery stats and see what's using all your data, it's most likely media scanning services or a run away app.
Flashing a custom kernel may also solve your issue.

I actually had the app from a while ago. The top battery usage apps are Android OS (it just says that) with a partial wakelock of 2hours 7 minutes... The second is screen and the thrid is Wifi which seemed normal.
Under wake usage, the top app is Google Backup Transport the second is Kik messenger.
Sounds like you're not on the SCH-i535. This is the forum for that device.

Me too...
Verizon S3, running stable CM10.1.2
Last Wednesday, my phone (which used to go all day on a single charge) started draining battery at an unbelievable rate.
For instance- 40% battery loss in just 2.5 hours (music/gmail/twitter/web browsing).
Again, no change in my usage, just in the power response.
I did a complete wipe and flash last night (wiped davlik, cache, factory reset, flashed 10.1.2 stable and gapps)... same problem this morning.
Thoughts?
(hope this is the right forum... didn't know if I should put this here or over at the CM one.:fingers-crossed:

Well you don't have the 10 posts required to post comments on the CM thread so this is your best bet. Usually flashing a custom kernel helps with battery life.

All kernels are on the original android development section. Make sure that the kernels are for AOSP roms.
Orrrr is it just me... 5,626 wake locks.
EDIT: Hmmm just checked my GS4 (which is on KK) and the same thing is going on..

I'd been really wondering about this as well. I noticed your post in the main Rom thread about good battery life with many or most of the Samsung apps removed, did that affect how many Android System wake locks you've been getting as well? Do you have any of the system apps still running? I ask because I'd love to optimize my battery life, but there's still a few things I'd rather keep on it, as long as they're not the cause of some big issue that's preventing phone from sleeping or otherwise doing whatever it needs to to have such great battery life.
I'd also seem on another forum that for some, keeping all the apps and not even freezing any of them had actually turned out the best battery life overall, so that really had me puzzled. Thanks in advance for any advice you have.

Honestly I'm just as puzzled about it as you and everyone else is lol. Supposedly Android 4.4.3 (unreleased and unannounced) has fixed it.

Scroll to the right on the wakelock manager. If its alarmmanager it has to do with how android is managing schedules, it keeps the device awake so it can launch the task and wake the device http://developer.android.com/reference/android/app/AlarmManager.html there's more info on it. There are currently more effective ways to handle this and android has implemented this just need developers to change to the new methods

Since upgrading to lollipop (have tried many roms, from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1, now getting it on Cynaogen OS 12 ) i get really high battery drain because some apps like facebook, sometimes xda keep mobile radio data active until i force close them. Has anyone else noticed this issue or got a clue what might be causing this? Because i was getting this bug on different versions of lollipop with different apps, i think this might rather be a lollipop issue than the fault of apps. I have also tried flashing different modems, nothing helped. I will post screenshots below

I have recently joined the mobile radio battery drain club running latest version of COS12 with the latest incremental update being about 2 weeks ago. since that "update" that was only supposed to fix touch screen issues I have had this radio bug. A full battery life cycle will only afford me 4-5 hours of use..... heavy use is MUCH worse! Like 3-4 hrs....
Anyone hear of a patch/fix/work around? I am also bone stock without root, never rooted, etc..... only stock updates on COS....

Unfortunately it's a core google OS bug and only google can fix it. It'll happen if you use Mobile Data and there's no solution at all. Either switch to KK or pray that they'll fix it on Android M. Or get used to it like me
Yeah, I've just been using battery save mode and this has been very helpful. Although it does effect performance and gets rid of all the fun animations that make lollipop so enjoyable. It's definitely worth having at least 7-8 hours of use. But, I admit even on battery saver mode I'm noticing extreme battery issues start to effect this profile as well.
Crossing my fingers that Google does roll out a fix of some sort bcuz I'm seeing new apps and Google services show up on my battery stats!
So has anybody been looking at this outside of Google? Some of us are developers, after all, and if the bug is in the Android code and not Google Play Services, we should be able to find it. I haven't seen too many attempts, so far...

I have read from a number of people that only Google can fix this problem since it is a low level android bug. And it is also supposedly in the beta versions of android M as well. The only current solution I have found to this problem is to stay on Kitkat. And not buy a phone that comes stock with lollipop (or M) until this problem is fixed, assuming you want the best battery life, since it is likely that there will not be any KK roms available for any new phone.
You can help by starring the issue at https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=165558
As fars as I can tell, the bug should be in code we have access to, so it doesn't have to be Google that fixes it. I've fixed bugs in the Linux kernel before, and it doesn't get any more low level than that...
They have to accept the fix and include it for it to be much use, but that is an entirely separate issue...
