I was wondering if there was an xposed module or modified app that changed the default messaging app so when you go into a conversation you can start typing without having to click on the area to initiate typing if that makes sense lol I'm coming from the LG g2 and that feature made replying to texts quicker.

I was wondering if anyone is aware of an application that will wake the phone (turn screen on) and display a pop with the received SMS/Text Msg.
Sort of similar to iPhone, whenever someone gets a message the screen turns on and it displays the message in a small pop up.
Basically I want someone only for when the screen is off.

go into Additional Settings in the app and there is an option to do so

+1 for SMS Popup. Has lots of config options and you can send replies direct from the popup.
Handcent & ChompSMS (and GoSMS I think) all have this option, but I find the default app to do all I need without adding bloat & advertisements in some cases.

+2 for SMS PopUp! Much better looking popup than Handcent, and Chomp's iPhone chat bubbles are built into the TouchWiz SMS app (unfortunately, since they look gahd-awful). But yeah, SMS Popup for the win.

+3 for SMS Popup since I had no need to replace the entire messaging app completely like with Handcent or Chomp.
I enjoy Handcent for quite some time now, but I think I'll try out the apps you recommend here.
Ive been using GO Dialer exclusively for some time now in place of the stock phone dialer. I love the features it offers of having the call log and dialer in on screen, and being able to quickly swipe to other phonebook pages. The one issue im having though is the 3-4 second time delay in opening GO Dialer compared to near instantaneous with the stock dialer. Is there anyway to speed this up. Would making it a system app and moving it to the system/app folder make a difference?
I've always noticed some delay with go Dev products. Try to use spare parts for fast transitions or keep the app in ram....up to you

Is this possible? I have a non activated T-Mobile sim in the 2014 Moto X Pure Edition on 5.0
I only use google voice with hangouts to make and receive calls. I want to be able to hit a number online and have it call with Hangouts. Instead it only give me the option to call with the default dialer or Viber. I have SMS set as default so I recieve that directly through Hangouts. Not sure what im doing wrong with the dialer.
Try installing Google Voice onto your phone. The hangouts dialer is just an add-on to Hangouts, and not really a standalone app. It becomes a shortcut in the app drawer to Hangouts. Hope this helps and update us on an answer!

Yeah I have Google Voice on the phone as well.
OK. Go into settings and find Application Manager. Then scroll to All and look for the Dialer.apk and clear its defaults. Or just drag the phone icon on the home screen to the top and should give option to view App Info, which will tell you what app it is.

Thanks for the reply. I did that but clear defaults is greyed out so I can't click on it. Says no defaults set. I downloaded default app editor. For the calling option there's only phone and viber but for messaging hangouts is on the list. I need hangouts on the list for calling
Just received the hangouts dialer update this morning. Still can't set as default but it did enable me to touch a number online and call with Hangouts Dialer. Good enough!
Hello I came from a lg g2 to this great phone but the main feature I really miss is the default lg messaging app in it's ability too make a pop-up window that shows up in almost all apps for quick replys the killer part being it's transparent if watching a movie or YouTube and doesn't leave or pause the app when replying. The closest I got to getting something similar is the app called textra but it's not transparent. Does anyone know a good app that is like the LG default messaging app?
Chomp SMS, Go SMS, and Handcent all offer pop-up windows that you can customize. Not sure if they can be made transparent or not thought.
Thanks for the options I looked them all over textra is the closest but not transparent can LG's default messaging app on the G series be ported over to my Sony Z3?

Anything is possible with enough developer support. But I wouldn't expect anything THAT specific to be done now that the Z3 series is no longer the flagship device.

Hi,
I am using Android Message app as I want RCS. I installed the app and made it default in settings.
However, after some time if i open the messages app, it again asks me to set it as default. If i check the default apps, messaging app (MIUI) is set as default. due to this, my RCS functionality gets disrupted.
Is there a way to stop the messaging app changing settings and making itself default?
Thanks
