[Q] Help finding the right firmware version - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello !
I posted yesterday about upgrading to lollipop on an unlocked bootloader.
I thought i got it, but need additional help.
1. Im using Xperifirm to find 23.1.A.1.28, but i can only find versions that has diffrent brand names. I have Halebop carrier, and I can only find Telenor and 3. What differences is there based on branding?
Can you just use the Central Europe one without problem or what is that ?
2. What do R2C mean after the version name. 23.1.A.1.28/R2C ?
3. Do i need to manually root it, if i cant find any prerooted versions, and if so how do I do it? Can i preroot it myself before flashing?
4. Custom recovery: Do you flash it on the same time as the android firmware? or do you do it separately? do I need it first to be able to fastboot?
Sorry for the noob questions, im new to flashing. Have done it before, but then i knew exactly what i was doing from the beginning, now im om a used phone, and have no idea what has been done. I know it has unlocked bootloader, but cant get Super Su to work to root.
PLEASE HELP ME !
BTW I have looked for answers in the forums, but I cant get the whole picture out of it... And some of the guides were outdated etc.
(I have Flashtool 0.9.18.2 installed)

Discalimer: I am quite new at this but here what's i understand:
1. For same device, i.e. D6653 you can sue any ROM, difference customizations just include special apps from that country and carrier. I am using customized HK ROM and debloated it.
2. I don't really know but different regions have different codes like that so I think it just for different regions.
3. Yes, first thing you want to do it, search giefroot, that's the tool you root with, use a FTF to flash back to 23.0.A.2.93 and root and install "nut dual recovery". You need to flash back because that's the only one you can root on Z3. After, this never flash FTF unless it's completely unavoidable for some reason. Always flash zips through recovery. Search "PRF Creator", it will help you make prereooted firmware zips.
4. I answered this in 3.

[Q] Got my phone unlocked - but they rooted it - can I unroot?

I recently had my Orange Galaxy S2 i9100P unlocked by the local phone shop.
The unlocking worked fine, but I have now noticed that it has been rooted too.
It has a superuser app installed, which he said he didn't realise it had installed.
Not sure that I want it to be rooted when I sell it as it might put off potential buyers.
So I called the shop and asked if it has to be rooted to unlock it and he said that it does.
He said that the other way to unlocked it is to use a code but that system is currently down (the website that gives out codes) and it would cost £26 instead of the £10 that I paid to have it unlocked using root. I asked him if I could unroot it by flashing with the standard Orange firmware (using Keis) and he said yes I could and that would unroot it. When asked that if this would then lock it again he said that no it shouldn't, but he didn't seem too sure about what he was saying.
So some specific questions:-
1) Did he have to root it to unlock it?
2) Did it have to be left in root once unlocked?
3) Can I unroot it and return to standard firmware (using Keis) and it still remain unlocked?
4) If the answer to 3) is no, then can I delete / uninstall the superuser app?
5) When I run the superuser app, there is a temp unroot option. What does that do? Can I use that to unroot it?

1. Yes root was required to unlock from the carrier. Or else you had to pay full price to get the unlock.
2. Not exactly! If he made a permanent change then no need, But if he's using something dependent to unlock it then it needs to be rooted.
3. Not sure, cause if the stock Orange firmware finds the phone as locked it might re-lock it again. So there's a risk. If you can find a fresh carrier free firmware for your model why not flash that?
4. I used SuperSU there's an unroot button there but nothing that says 'Temporary'. But if the root binaries are once flashed I'm not sure that gets rid of it.
Just trying to be helpful.

How do you mean? Are you saying that there is another appliocation that is running that is performing the unlock and that needs root to do its stuff?

That is an option. But Last time I looked (a few years back) I couldn't find any i9100P specific unbranded firmware. There was i9100 firmware, but that didn't support the i9100P NFC chip.

My app is just called "superuser" and is at v3.1.3. I suppse that I could try the temp unroot and see what happens.
Yes, I'm saying there might be some app keeping the unlock alive. Cause that's how I unlocked my iPhone 4, quite a lot of times. :3
And you should search again for unofficial rom.
And also try the temporary unroot button.
Rightho, I have now moved over to the S5 and I would like to get my S2 ready for sale.
Someone mentioned earlier that Keis might not recognise the device. Well you are correct it doesn't and will not let my flash. I does not recognise it as a Samsung device.
So I would like some generic I9100P firmware that supports NFC.
I would also like to unroot the device.
Current firmware is V4.1.2
Baseband version is I9100PBVLS2
Kernel is 3.0.31 - 1246097
[email protected] - 109 #3
SMP PREEMPT Tue Jun 4 15:49:20 KST 2013
Build number is JZO54K.I9100PXXLSS
I do not get a yellow warning triangle so I assume that it is a secure kernel.
So can anyone help me to:-
1) Unroot the device.
2) Get it so that Keis will talk to it again.
3) Keep it unlocked
4) Get a secure kernel if mine is insecure.

Flash a custom recovery through Odin and then backup your current Rom. And then find flashable-zip official firmwares and then flash and see results. If anything goes wrong revert back to the old firmware.
The solution seems to be to download and install firmware XXLSU Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean.
This will install a generic unlocked stock ROM and generic firmware, which is just what I need.
See here.
w w w.ibtimes.co.uk/galaxys2-i9100p-xxlsu-android412-jellybean-update-install-501998
However, I am not able to find the update ROM / Firmware files as all the links in all the websites that I have found are all dead.
I have founf some working links but this is for Spanish / French versions. Will these be OK?

Keep in mind to use the firmware with the right "MODEM" version. SamMobile offers the firmware version(s) you are looking for. BUT don't risk flashing another firmware, if its much more easy. Install "SuperSU" from the play store. Open it an switch ROOT to "SuperSU", you will be prompted to uninstall the current superuser (root). Accept it. Reboot your phone. Open SuperSU and perform "Complete Unroot". Thats it
Ok that will unroot it but stay with orange firmware and be re-locked to orange?
I was wanting a generic ROM and firmware that supports NFC.
SamMobile has the I9100PXXLSU firmware which I believe I need. However, it has 2 versions:-
Date Country/Carrier Version PDA CSC MODEM
2013 August France 4.1.2 I9100PXXLSU I9100PXEFLS3 I9100PXXLS8
2013 August Spain (Vodafone) 4.1.2 I9100PXXLSU I9100PATLLS6 I9100PBULS3
Should I be concerned about the carrier / country?
You say get the correct MODEM version but how do I know what the correct one is?
My current details are:-
PDA: I9100PXXLSS
PHONE: I9100PBVLS2
CSC: I9100PPORALS6
Please can someone just tell me where I can get a generic ROM / firmware and tell me which one I should be using.
It all seems to be riddles and cryptic clues.
I am confident of downloading the ROM / firmware using ODIN, but I just want to know what to download.

Vodafone firmware is Vodafone branded, so i won't use it as its probably highly customized by vodafone. The France version should not have a branding. You can check your modem version in Android: "Settings-->about Phone". If you get you right, you want to sell a branded phone as unbranded and potentially next owner may not know. sounds not very good
I was just trying to get rid of all the ornage bloatware. If someone wants to use a different network operator, they might not want all the orange stuff on there. I was certainly not wanting to trick anyone. I suppose I could just unroot it and leave it as it is (it is obviously an orange branded phone as it has orange logos on it). Or I could just download the standard orange ROM / Firmware and return it to stock. My worry is that this will lock it again. I keep asking this question but no one seems to give me a straight answer if it will or not. Maybe it is an unknown. As I am a newby I have no idea.

I suppose its hard to say, because no one but the shop owner exactly knows what method was used to unlock the phone. Thats the reason why there is no guarantee that the unlock survives a firmware flash. If you just want to get rid of unwanted apps, you can use "Titanium Backup" to uninstall whatever you want. I would never use a non rooted phone again, so may be the new owner is happy that its already rooted

Yeah this works, if you really wanna get rid off the orange BS. Just uninstall all the BS with Titanium Backup and then simply unroot. :3 And the device fresh and unlocked and not rooted without the BS. :3 And everybody's happy, right?

To experts, how can I Update after root?

Hi xda developers, I'm a new z3 user (D6633) running lollipop 5.1.1 , and I want to root my z3 to use titanium Backup,
1) I'm afraid that if I root my z3, I won't be able to update to marshmallow when it arrives, I also read somewhere that I still can update but will lose drm (I don't know what that is )
2) is there a way to unroot, to install the official update ?
Please explain in details and provide links if you could, cus I'm totally new on Sony
Any advice is appreciated
Im sure there will be a pre-rooted stock ROM for dl as soon after M. hits. Depends if one need to flash other things as well like firmware etc. but these things are included in the same FTF. I have gone through a few Android versions and things usually works out fine in a short matter of time.
If you absolutely want to go full stock, just flash a stock FTF from http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/ftf-stock-firmwares-xperia-z3-models-t2886061
Using Flashtool.

Flashing other 32.0.A.6.200 firmware with different brand / country

Hey guys
I want to follow this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/guide-rooting-unlocking-bootloader-t3354307
But you need an old 32.0.A.6.200 which I can not find for my country (CH) so is it okay if I flash one of these ftf files:
-E6653_32.0.A.6.200_R14B_Nordic Generic_1298-7362.ftf
-E6653_32.0.A.6.200_NCB.ftf
I'm currently on MM 6.0 with a brand of my country. Phone should be unlocked since I'm using a different simcard from another carrier.
Question:
Will this somehow brick my phone or doesn't it matter?
Thank you in advance.
bump, as I want to get rid of this Sony bloatware asap
Yes you can flash any firmware but make sure it's for the same variant E6653 or whatever.
If you just want to remove bloat it would not worth the effort of rooting as you can get rid of it without root (some apps can be removed, others with "pm hide"). The upside is that you can still use official images and updates as system partition is not touched.

Flashing Z5 to Nougat

Hi guys,
I have a z5 with E6653 Single, with the customization number 1298-8309(Taiwan, i live in Hungary), the nougat update hasn't rolled out yet to my phone, but i'd like to upgrade. I'm new to this, so i have a few questions about this.
1. If i understand correctly.First i have to unlock the bootloader then i'll have to use flashtool+xperifirm like in this guide:
[link removed] ( i can't post links yet, google xperiablog flash guide to find it) to flash the firmware then i'll have Nougat
2. I don't want to lose my app settings etc., so if i dont check the wipe userdata, i should be fine or it will be buggy as hell ?
3. I should make a backup just in case, what is the best tool for this?
3. Which firmware should i use? I was thinking about the Hungarian-Telenor one 1298-2997/32.3.A.376/R1D or would it be better if i used an other one or use the marshmallow and then upgrade through OTA ( if this is how it works)
4.What are the chances of me bricking my phone? Any other disadvantages/risks of doing this?
Thanks in advance, first time poster here, sorry if this is not the place for a question like this or too dumb questions
You can flash any region you like.
Phone does not need to have unlocked bootloader.
Unlocked bootloader are only needed if you like to have twrp and root.

Thank you, managed to do it, everything seems fine for now

Needing help with TWRP + root.... walkthroughs telling me different things.

Hey hi hello. Rather than screwing up my phone, I'd love some help from people who know more about this device than I do. I want my device to be rooted, all my phones I've owned have been rooted and it's not optional for me. I've been reading a lot of walkthroughs, but I seem to be getting mixed instructions. Can someone help clarify what I need to be doing?
My device is a Sony Xperia Z3 D6603, 6.0.1 software version 1282-2729_23.5.A.1.291. I unlocked the bootloader last night. I have ADB installed, Sony flashtool by Androxyde, finding the TWRP image file is easy since it's on every walkthrough, I have almost all the files needed, except the kernel, and that's what I'm needing help with. I'm following a walkthrough on droidviews (I can't post a link ) and I'm lost on what I'm supposed to flash. What it says: "The process described here is valid for Xperia Z3 variants – D6603, D6653, D6633, D6646 and D6643.
In case you are running the latest Marshmallow firmware, that is the .291 firmware, you will need to flash the kernel from .575 kernel. Download the correct .575 kernel for your device." Obviously my device is the 291 version, so I'm supposed to flash the .575 version.......????? But later in the instructions, it says "This time flash the .291 kernel for your device also available for download above. Make sure you rename the .zip at the end to .ftf". I just really want to be certain I don't end up using a file not meant for my device. ---before anyone yells at me, I *have* been trying to look for the answers of this myself, but I would prefer to second-guess everything so I don't end up with a very expensive paperweight.
Edit- I've been seeing a looooot of people saying they get stuck in bootloop or soft brick after getting TWRP installed, are these just people who didn't follow instructions correctly or is this simply a very common issue to run into when dealing with this particular phone?
