Hello All,
I have issue regarding Titanium Backup and my Z3.
My Z3 is rooted, Titanium has Root access but when i try to specify the Sd card as backup support i have a message telling me i don't have permissions to write on the Sd card.
I try SDfix app but the result is a failed....
I also try to edit my platform.xml file with Es File explorer but i'm unable to save the modification. (Here the modification i try to input).
<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE">
<group gid="sdcard_r"/>
<group gid="sdcard_rw"/>
<group gid="media_rw"/></permission>
Any idea to fix this issue ?
I'm in stock ROM with 5.0.2 Lollipop build 23.1.A.0.690

Have you tried reinstalling titanium/es file explorer after updating the platform.xml?
Might help as the apps permissions may not have been implemented correctly if apps didn't have write access to the SD card upon install.

Thanks for the reply.
unfortunately the issue is i cannot modify the plateform.xml manually or with the SDfix App.....
I just checked in ES File explorer and the root explorer case was not checked.
The thing is when i'm checking it it tell me that my device is not rooted (my device is rooted i have SU on it and granted ES File explorer root access from the SU menu).
As the Z3 is rooted with the root exploit of the 23.0.A.2.93 downgrade maybe it's a limitation.
Any idea ? (I try also to reinstall ES File explore with same result)

Sorry, I misread the OP.
I'm not sure how to get around it, my suggestion was just a guess but I know google have prevented play store apps for having write access to the SD card by default.
I believe the usual way around this is to use exposed framework but I'm not sure if this is functional on Z3 running 5.x yet.
Try copying platform.xml to sdcard and copy it to computer, make modifications, and copy it back. Then use Aroma File manager in recovery, rename original platform.xml to platform.xml.bak for just in case. and copy the file from sdcard and change permissions to rw.r..r.. and you are set. Remember to mount system in recovery before starting file manager.

Hello thank you for the reply.
It's a good idea but xperia Z3 with stock rom do not have any recovery mode. If you install any recovery partition, you void warranty (that's not a big deal) and you cannot use DRM anymore (Photo are crapy)

That's completely untrue. You can install recovery WITHOUT losing warranty and WITHOUT losing DRM keys

You have most probably messed the systemUI.apk which is located in /system/app or files associated with it. Did you remove any other apk's in which you weren't sure what it does?
In this case, Factory reset won't work because it just wipes user data and /system partition remains in tact. The nearest possible thing to do is to flash a stock ROM if exists or copy the deleted apk's borrowing from some one else's phone and place those apk's in /system/app partition setting the correct permission.
I remember exactly what I deleted. I I uninstalled Dhingana.com, Facebook and Rail yatra. I cannot start third party apps though I can install them. So I am not sure how to place the systemUI.apk in the directory /system/app. Can it be done through inbuilt file manager?

Nope, I guess not possible through default file manager. You have to use ES File Explorer File Manager or Root Explorer to place it in /system/app and change its permissions to rw-r-r.

Make sure you've mounted the /system partition as R/W before attempting to Copy or setting permissions.

Hi, after updating to android 4.2.2, I encountered the Eaccess Permission Denied error when an app tried to write into the sd card, making the card read-only. So this is a guide to fix that problem.
Requirements:
Device must be rooted
Root Explorer installed
Fixing the problem:
Using root explorer navigate to System/etc/permissions
Open platform.xml using root explorer's Text Editor
Find the permission "Write_External_Storage" and there will be the permission group: "sdcard_rw"
Add another group directly under that one: <group gid="media_rw" />
Save changes made in the file and exit
Reboot your device
Done! Now apps have the permission to write data on the external sd card.

I'm with you southsamurai - I'm not a complete noob but this one has me stumped, my guess is our situation has nothing to do with the contents of platform.xml because even with root access I can't save changes to it...
But I may be wrong... Did you fix your issue somehow?

Hi guys
I just have my second 802w, this one is coming from UK , it is Kitkat 4.4 + sense 6.
I rooted it and recovery is twrp 2.7
The bootloader says "tampered" + "unlocked"
No way to change Platform.xml even by flashing through recovery usig a zip. It says succeed but same old file after reboot.
If I use the nexapp sdfix, it crashes after "continue" and reboot.
Same if I use a es explorer or total commander, when I push save, black screen + reboot.
It seems there is an additionnal protection on those last updated uk 802w
Anybody has a clue?

To anyone not getting the change to stick, make sure in ES file explorer you turn root explorer on in the menu on the left hand side. You then need to tap root explorer in order to switch the file path /system to rw before making your changes in the text editor.
If you manage to get further than I did, please write back with any tips!

I used Total Commander instead of Root Explorer and I was able to save the file after I made the changes...and it worked fine
I would like to thank also Stuart D
"Use Total Commander (with 'root' enabled in options).
Edit the file using the built-in editor "Totalcmd-Editor"
When you save, it will ask to remount drive; press OK.
Remember to reboot afterwards."

Yes you can check by going into settings>aabout phone>software information>software number. If your on Cleanrom v1.1 it will be 1.55.605.2 which is the latest base. What mod are you trying to do by editing your default . XML? There are a lot of things you can tweak in there.
Also, Cleanrom v1.1 has system r/w enabled by default. So you didn't need to flash that kernel to have it.
"Pre Rooted with SuperSU and Busybox pre-installed
Writeable /system partition
Unsecured kernel with ADB remount capabilities"
My advice would be to re-flash the rom, or restore a nandroid backup to get the roms stock kernel back. You could just dirty flash the rom and only wipe cache and davlik. You should be fine.
But once again, what mod are you trying to do in your default.xml? It may be I can help you sort it out, or at least tell you why it's not working.

i would just like to write to system for future purposes for the mean time i used adb to pull the default xml then i modified the file on my pc to enable harman kardon and music channel then went to recovery mounted system and pushed it back its just a pain seeing i can't write to system when i want to yes it says 1.55.605.2 so i should be able to write to system and you suggest a fresh install? or should i just pull the kernel image out of the rom zip and flash through fastboot?
CleanROM has this capability without any 3rd party kernels or other modifications. I use ES File Explorer on a clean install of CleanROM 1.1 to write to the /system partition. You do need to enable R/W permission in the ES File Explorer app by clicking the upper left icon, going to Tools, enabling the toggle for Root Explorer, clicking on the words Root Explorer, clicking on Mount R/W, and enabling RW permission on whatever directory you want to.

Why not make a copy of the files you want to edit... fix them up how you like.. then copy them back into place using file explorer function of TWRP (make sure you mount system).... OR put them in a flashable zip template and flash them. The changes will stick. You are likely trying to change files in use.

oh lol your'e right i just copied a file over from my sd to the system to test it wow I should of known that thanks so much this issue is solved I'm disappointed in myself gotta give myself 10 minutes time out now thanks tho
I tried installing it with both Flashify and Magisk, but both methods failed.
When I tried installing it via the included Xposed Installer, it also failed, but gave me the message:
> Error: Xposed_Framework.jar already exists in /system/framework
I'm guessing a previous installation failed, but left the file there.
My next idea is to delete that file from /system/framework and try again, but since it's in an RO directory I don't have permission.
I tried using a terminal emulator to mount the drive in rw mode, and also tried using a root file explorer, but either both methods don't work, or I just couldn't figure it out.
Anyone have an idea of how to remove or rename that file so I can try to install the .zip ?
-Thanks

In the Xposed app you should be able to just run the uninstaller script. If that doesn't work, boot TRWP and delete it from there.

Root Explorer....
This app does wonders, it allows you to modify directories in /system and other root folders. You can even change permissions of specific folders/files from read/write/read-only....etc. I've had this app since the earliest of android days and it has been my go to file explorer. Root Explorer of course requires root....but it completely unlocks your phone and allows you to modify any system file that is set to any permission. Of course there are other file explorers that allow you to modify system files, but this is the one that i have the most experience with. You should be able to access the system folder where the Xposed file remains and modify it so it can fix your problem.

This!. I've used it for years. Not muss no fuss. It's not bloated like a certain couple others I know of. It just does what it does and does it well. Manages files. No extra garbage.Give it a try. I'd be surprised if you can't delete it with Root Explorer. If you do try it, go to the folder you want to delete the file from. Once in there, look at the top right of the screen. Somewhere up there It will say MOUNT R/W. Touch that and you should be able to do whatever you want to within that folder.
Do you have the magisk DNSCrypt module installed? If so, thats why you cant modify anything in /system. Not sure why or how it breaks it, but it does. Took me for ever to figure out what was causing it. Now that i removed the module, i can modify anything i want again.

I tried changing the permission through X-plore and chmod 644, but it didn't work. I restored a backup of the platform.xml, but that too didn't work.
I also tried flashing this, but it didn't work :
