Rusted Home Button - Verizon Galaxy S 5 General

Phone not even 5 months old and already rusting. Has anyone else having this problem. Bought this phone for my wife.

Was it dropped in saltwater or something?

Nope.. There's no water marks on the sticker under the battery cover.

No, that's why I wasn't more insulting It looks just like the fake metal coated plastic on the edge of the phone, so I just assumed it was plastic...

A shot in the dark here...you said this was your wife's phone right? Seeing that it is around the crease of the button...is it possible it is makeup stuck in there from when she presses it to her face on a phone call? Did you try a q-tip and some alcohol to see if it cleans out?

Why don't you just open the phone up and find out??

Pretty sure that's makeup stuck in there.
Those parts are plastic.
Turn off device
Q-tip with alcohol
soak the home button
wait a few minutes
Vacuum the moisture out.
Wait an hour or 2
Turn on device.

Nrush it off with a toothbrush and water, that part shpuld get water damage anyways, if the phone dies don't blame me tho lol

Probably dust on the screen, not in the screen
I guarantee that everyone who read the OP picked up their phone cleaned the screen and then checked it intensely

I also did... When i opened it up I was like what the **** happened.
Also, I see a TINY black spec down in the bottom left corner with the screen on and the screen off.
Bummed kinda.
Because they have the SAMOLED screen, meaning there is no space between Gorilla Glass and Digitizer, hence no space for the dust to settle in.

Yes it is.
It does however catch dust on the outer edges of the phone, around the rim of the phone where the glass meets the phone.

G2x Drop Test

So I was answering the phone while shutting the car door last night and lost grip of my G2x. Heard it hit the ground and initially was pretty pissed especially when I seen that it was laying screen down. I picked it up and inspected the screen and to my surprise Gorillas Glass lived up to its name and the screen doesnt have a scratch on it. There were some scratches on the battery cover that actually rubbed out using my finger and finger nail. There are couple small scratches on the phone it self but since their not on the screen they dont bother me. Heres some pics of the aftermath.
Glad it's still intact...thanks for the pics.
Good to hear, thanks for the pics.
You must drop it several times in a drop test. This isn't a true drop test.

I had mine in my G1 slip case until I got my TPU delivered.
I was hanging up a call & dropped it onto the concrete floor out on the dock - this was like day 4 of having the thing. ~3-4' drop & slide....
Not a scratch on it.
So glad.

Wifi death grip fix....... Lmaoooo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGxctvyhl0U&feature=related
I came across this.. lol Im gonna try it. Maybe some how line the inside of the cover from the top to the side so when in landscape the top of the foil is on the side of the cover/phone but still getting access to the wifi signal.. lol
I think this issue can be fixed if htc just redesignes the cover. It cant be that expensive. I bet if the some how do the same with metal, from the copper all the way to say both sides, no matter how you hold it should get signal. I think this could be fixed with a redesigned cover.
I know this is a funny thread, but seriously I havent tried it yet, but if it helps that just means they could design a new cover to work.

I'll be more scared of the foil paper touching the other component.

Maybe just little bit less foil on the gold prong. Would enhance the signal. While still being small enough to fit in the phone without effecting anything.

FYI he already made a post about this when he first put up that video
EDIT: Ok yall gonna think im crazy. But I held the phone with a towel reaaaaally tight over the wifi area, whole back, and etc. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO wifi drop. Yea ok, conductor right? IPHONE issue? Well a case dont fix it? how come? so I decided to line my case (silicone I got from tmobile) with paper towel. LOL. I got two layers in it. Anyways, I wish my wife was here with Vibrina (my vibrant) to take a video for proof, but it works. Its muuuuch better. I could still probably kill the signal by covering completely or trying, but now I dont have to keep my hands in a certain spot.
TRY it.. LOL IT works for me. Ill post a video in about 4 hours of it. Before, while during and after to show its working. So Maybe a new case with some extra something will help? I dont know but if just a towel (one layer, the corner) can stop the issue completely, something has to be able to be done.
With my body glove on, I've never had any problems with wifi dropping.

Ditto here. I have the soft rubbery case, no clip, and I never lose the WiFi signal, no matter how tightly I hold the phone, or where I hold it.

I got the case from the TMO store where I bought the phone. It's the one made from soft black rubber, and the rubber is textured, feels almost like finger prints, so it's not slippery at all. It cost me $9.
Thanks very much...

I tried what you suggested but without the case. I put the paper towel between my hand and phone ota only dropped to 1 bar. Without the paper towel I would lose connection.

Nearly had a heart attack

So here i am, getting my phone. IT's fairly hot...of noes another SOD. I'm walking, take it out of the case. Take off the battery cover....and it slips. Im around 5 11 , and was holding it at chest height when it fell. No joke, it was like time stopped. I saw it fall slowly, without any protection
It hit the ground...and the battery flew out (obviously). I was scared even though the screen didnt crack. because the flipping Camera hit the ground first since it popped out!
At first, it wouldn't read the battery, and showed a question mark. A quick battery remove and insert fixed that.
It works fine, but after that momment, im scared to drop. Can't bear to see my baby damaged
Just wanted to share a story.
BTW: how durable are these phones? If it was my old iphone,.......uhh wouldnt have been so good. The plastic hasnt even been dented
BTW arethese hings like bulletproof. It's
The odds of a phone surviving being dropped is so variable that it is unpredictable except for obviously disastrous circumstances. Wear textured rubber gloves to reduce the potential of dropping it.
I remember when I dropped mine about 5 feet face down on asphalt/concrete whatever it was and I was so mad that I walked away. Didn't bother to even look if it was cracked because I thought it was done. I ended up picking it up and it was pefect. No scratches on the screen only on metal sidings.

Ive dropped mines several times.. Not from.that high though and mostly on carpet.. I'm usually very careful with my phone.the phone is still in very good condition..this is one of the most under rated phones imo. Ive never kept a phone as long as this.. I love look and performance
---------- Post added at 11:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:33 AM ----------
And I hate cases and screen protectors.. They take so much away from the phone
I dropped mine out of my lap onto a gravel driveway while getting out of the car. Screen shattered into a spider web. Wasn't very far down. Glad I have insurance. I agree that this phone is underated.

I've heard peolpe dropped theirs 3 feet and it breaks. Personally I dropped mine off a 15 foot ladder at work and it landed on sharply corrugated metal flooring face first. Heart skipped a beat, I went and pick it up and nothing at all happened No scratches, nothing. But then again, Gorilla glass is made to not scratch from metal so drop it on concrete and I wouldn't be to sure.
Ive dropped mine a few times, and in my case, the corners are pretty easily dented, like soft plastic.

Self Healing Body Frame?

Well, I bought my U11 since almost 2-3 months. I like its feeling so I didn't use the provided back cover, neither bought any cover. This needed me to take extra care to not make it fall.
However, it fell eventually, but not from a high distance, though, the body frame got a noticeable scratch on the SIM card holder part, and due to the scratch, the affected part color became white (the phone is red). Today, I looked at the phone and it has no scratch! No white color, it is all red again!
So, actually, I'm not believing myself. Does this phone frame self heals itself? I'm sure I wasn't dreaming!
I think you were either dreaming or mistaken. The frame is not self healing technology.
