Nexus player kodi smb sharing buffering - Nexus Player General

Hi I setup my nexus player and installed Kodi with all the addons and it works like a charm since it came out. Recently I added a shared folder on my windows laptop to access it over Kodi and stream movies/shows on my nexus player. Its over wifi most of them work fine but I tried to play a mkv 1080p movie (10Gb) and it buffers every minute. Tried everything editing buffer size all the tips on this forum but nothing helped. Just for comparison I tried it with my Ipad Air 2 jailbroken with Kodi over same network and the file plays fine not buffering at all. So now Im wondering if Im doing something wrong? on the nexus player? I guess the wifi network is strong since it plays fine on the ipad. Every suggestion is appreciated .Thank you

The Nexus Player should have no problems playing that video so I'm thinking it's probably your wifi. Are you getting full signal bars on your Nexus and which band are you using, 2.4 or 5Ghz?
What version of Kodi are you using?
Have you tried playing the same video through VLC and if so are you getting buffering there also?

Hi thx for the reply. I tried to play the movie with vlc today and its still buffering even more then in kodi. Kodi on ipad is version 14.2 and it works perfect, Kodi 15. alpha 2 on nexus player no problem so far . My wifi router is 2.4 ghz crappy one from my telus internet provider. Im just wondering if the problem is my wifi connection why is it working on the ipad.?

Hi
I have the same problem randomly with Kodi and Archos player too.
I suspect my wifi connection. (I'm sorry that player dont have an ethernet port onboard ...).

I had the sane issue until I switched to the 5 ghz band, now no issue at all. I think the one I played last night was a 15gb mkv

thx for all the replys, I guess the router is the main problem.

I have to say its an issue with kodi
I have used 2.4 and 5gz both disconnect when using kodi and/buff a lot
If i use ES file explorer to play media i have no issues at all and the same with Plex its only when i use kodi itself does the buffering and wifi dc happen, at no other time does this happen so i have had to change to plex untill i get a usb nic for it

I heard people recommending the ARM version, i've had weird pixelation problems with most versions of it however. i ended up with kodi for amazon tv, which works pretty well. I have less problems with it anyway...
I should try the x86 version though, since i haven't yet.

I ended up signing up to the kodi for android g+ community and the beta test program so I could download it from the play store which is working great for me.

Has anyone had any trouble with streaming using the twitch.tv addon.? I keep having tearing issues. It also happens with some movies. (using kodi)
I've tried multiple different versions of gothom and helix arm and x86. Anyone have similar issues?

VLC or other stream for the Evo?

I'm trying to set up a VLC stream from my PC with all of my media to my phone. I'm hoping I can create a nice little media server with my 2TB of video so I can watch them any where, any time.
I can't find any new information for VLC on Android although I know the beta for the iPad was just released. Anyone know any more?
I've been looking for something like this as well, I've had no luck streaming anything. The only thing that has worked is orb and the quality sucks. I also had tversity running but its just to finnicky with x64 Windows 7. You may wanna try tversity if you have a atleast a core 2 machine running x86 xp.

There's no VLC for Android. The closest thing is RockPlayer and the built-in Browser/Video/Music player.
And VLC on your computer doesn't quite work that way, either. You can only have it set to be a streaming server (like an Internet radio/video station) and then watch/listen to that stream from your Browser. You can't control it unless you get a VLC remote app (search in the Market) at which point you'll have to disconnect from the stream to open the remote.
As for anything similar, there's plenty. I just don't know/use any.
checkout VLC Stream and Convert in the market. VERY COOL app. Allows you to control VLC on the PC from the phone, including stream video from the PC to phone. Even allows a basic browser to find the media. Video quality over wifi is great. Can't say I've tried streaming through the internet but I'd bet its pretty decent. Dev has a website with instructions
Ok i just tried this app and it works perfect.

I had the same problem on Fresh 3.2. If you can't get his lastest version of the app to work for you, then I pulled this apk off of a nandroid backup. It's of an older version that still works for me. (Still have to change port to 5554).
Also, per the developers warning, VLC 1.1.4 supposedly has audio streaming issues, so you'll probably want 1.1.3 also.

[Q] MyCloud/MyNet

Hi, noob here with his first thread. I've ordered my transformer with the dock and loved the idea of streaming from my laptop to my tablet but from the scarce reviews which I have read and seen the application doesnt work too well? Can any please look into this in a bit more detail and explain if it works or not?
many thanks
Not sure where you've seen it doesn't work well because I've got MyCloud up and running and was streaming music from my PC to my TF and had absolutely no probs. Smooth playback and only times it jumped were because my PC is having issues and was at stupidly high CPU usage. Other than that works a treat and even checked out a vid and looks to work really well too. Not worked out what I'd use MyNet for yet as couldn't get it working with my PC but seems to be for DLNA equipped devices as had a message to check DLNA devices so guess it's for streaming from the TF to a DLNA equipped TV or the likes.
Mycloud (Splashtop) works very well for me....I even played WOW a bit on my TF with the help of the docking stations, it's absolutely fine to do some simple daily quests on the TF..
ive never got it to stream videos smoothly. not sure if im doing something wrong but playing movies using mycloud is always choppy.

in one particular review the application simply fails to stream any of the files, although after doing some more digging i have seen it working. So is it a case of incorrect set up or does the tablet support only a limited number of file formats? i mainly use .avi and .mkv, wil these work??
I've used it to stream music to my Sony Bravia TV via DLNA and it works fine. I'll test some video once I get some onto the device and post results.

cheers! it'd be a big disappointment if .avi and .mkv dont work
EDIT: youtube.com/watch?v=Zr8iBI_duJs this is the review i was referring to; skip to 3.30. again i dont know if he's got it set up properly but I saw this and began to worry!
Streaming to the tablet has no limitations with regards to file types, remember it's only displaying whatever's on the host so you can play anything your PC/laptop will play. Obviously if you're using your tablet as the host and streaming to your TV/PC/laptop etc then it's completely reliant on what the TF can do. I guess choppy playback and issues are all down to setup and quality of the network. If you have a good setup you'll not have any issues with streaming any files. I have a fairly basic setup with all devices on a WiFi N network and runs well enough

MoboPlayer and HDMI mirror?

Hey guys i'm using MoboPlayer and i've notice that When mirrorring on my TV that it doesn't work while playing avi or mkv yet can play both those standalone... anyone else having these issues? or has anyone else mirror'd movies successfully using another app?
I had problems with mobo+hdmi too. The picture froze both on TV and transformer.
Using vital player now and hdmi works fine. Beware that ONLY free version works. Donate version keeps FC and developer says it's because honeycomb authentication system and it's not working now.

i have that problem with Mobo and Rockplayer. will try out Vital too!
Those players can't play from th SD card thouggh
I use moboplayer. Works great. Make sure you get the additional codec pack for tegra. Forgot which one but it's somewhere in this forum.
I was also just tinkering with vital today. There is an option to set the root location where you start browsing. Simply set that to / and you can browse you entire tablet. Sgcard is not in/sdcard but /removable/microSD or sd
I don't need a signature.
Moboplayer and HDMI works fine for me. I also have the additional codec pack installed. Plays very smoothly.
The only thing that's "bad" about the HDMI mirror is the different screen ratio. The picture gets cut off at top and bottom. But since it's hiding the menu bar it's not really that bad
Is the codec needed for MoboPlayer different from the one that Mobo recommends in the Market?

[Q] MX Player and Dice player lags in CROMI-X?

Does anybody experience this too? I have a media player at home setup as an SMB server and it's connected to my wifi router. I have a collection of movies there that I play thru MX Player or Dice Player. Every time I play my HD movies, they lag. The only time I can play it flawlessly is if I reboot my Infinity. I've tried downloading memory cleaner, cache cleaner, temporary files cleaner and still it doesn't play my movies right. I didn't experience this before CROMI - X.. I was also in early version CROMI at that time it was working perfectly..
I hope someone can help me solve this issue.
Thank you.
Use BS Player.
Out of all the media plays I've tried on Android, thats the best.
Was using it on my locked tf700 last night. Plays HD (1080p) fine over wifi. Could even play 1080p on my N7 with that.

In my experience, it was good, and is still good om the 4.6.x versions. Have you tried cleaning your caches, and clearing app data? Do you have a lot of media on your 700? (I recently had an issue with the media scanner going haywire after a clean install.)

Nope, I'm using Data2SD and haven't used 50% of my storage (32GB). My movies are being streamed from my media player to my tablet through my local wifi. I tried clearing everything and it still lags if i try to play a movie unless i reboot it.
Up! Anyone else who can help me? I just want to play my videos smoothly. I also tried not using DATA2SD to see if that's the problem and unfortunately, it's the same. I think it's the way the new OS handles cache and ram but I don't know what else to do after clearing the cache, temp files and ram.

Live TV via HDhomerun on Nexus Player

Can someone who has the Player and an HDhomerun give this apk a try? This looks promising for live TV on the Player...

I tried this last night. It does not work - it just searched for channels indefinitely. Also in the thread there is talk of it not working anymore even on the ADT1. I guess changes to lollipop broke the app.

That was broken with changes to Android TV by Google. But give Silicondust some time, they are probably working on a fixed version.
As someone who got to play around with it a lot on my ADT-1, I can say it worked pretty good for a test app on a test build of android tv.

You can still do that without this. If you have an pc you can use as a pvr then there are xbmc addons that will enable you to watch/record live tv from the nexus player. Even better since you get pause/rewind as well, which I assume this app did not have given the lack of storage for live tv buffer on these devices.

I got mythbutnu set up I'm just not a fan of the xbmc style channel guide. Seems like they were working on a lean back style interface with this app that I was interested in
SiliconDust VIEW app works outside TV Input
The latest update to SiliconDust's HDHomeRun VIEW app hit the Play Store on Friday. While it doesn't tune properly from within the TV Input Plugin on my Nexus Player, I can access my channels perfectly by launching the VIEW app itself (which has the same interface as on a tablet). While it's not showing up in the Play Store on the Nexus Player, you can install it from the web version of the store and it will show up properly in the leanback launcher.
The activity on their development forum for Android TV makes me hopeful that they'll have it sorted out soon. The changelog listed support for Android L and Android TV, but only stated support for the ADT-1. I assume some of the remaining issues may be having to do with ARM vs x86, but I don't have an ADT-1 so I can't be sure they don't have the same problems at this stage.
so if the apps works can you tell us does the video stutter when viewing hd channels?

Do you have an AC router
I have a trebdnet AC 1900. Still stutters om HD from time tv time. It may be that the quad atom processor have more power than the amazon fire processor or it may be that it takes advantage of the AC speeds.
Yeah forgot that I have a usb ethernet adapter. Maybe that's why mine doesn't stutter.

I have a HDhomerun Dual. The View app works for me on Nexus Player. Seems like there's a little stutter in picture every now and again (unit is about 1 foot from an asus 68u). But may just be my imagination. Def better than on my Nexus 5 tho, which is practically unwatchable even 10 feet from the router.
Turns out the View app works for my Prime as well. The TV app only gives audio, and only on some channels.

If you can not get it to load email the developer and see if he can give you a beta so you can try it on the Nexus player. It is better than the HD homerun app on the market. It is called Tune N View it works if the Mysterious Nexus box plays MP2, MP4 and AC-2 audio if it does not support natively it does not work. It works on Minix 8 and other boxes that support those video and audio formats. If this does not work I will place my order of this box on Ebay and just return it and work with what I have. I called Nexus support and they could not tell me which video and audio formats this device supports, really? That's like buying a car and the dealership not knowing what engine it has. I am trying this although I have a fully rooted amazon fire tv which works great. I am hoping this device can deliver with this app and the following:
Root to install external hard drive
My nexus 4 has 16 gigs whats up with 8 gigs?
XMBC (just in case Tune N View does not work)
xbox 360 wireless control support
Hdhomerun App
Finally I was able to compare Nexus Player vs Fire Tv for usage with my homerun prime. I can say that it most be the combination of the Asus AC1900 that I got along with the processor which makes it work alot before with much less stutter then with the fire tv box. The one gripe I have with Nexus why provide much less video codecs support off the bat compared to google tv boxes like my sony box. Tune N View works great on Google Tv (one of the few apps I love on Google TV). Basically less stutter device has less power put they have the needed video and audio codecs. The developer is always involved and did I already mentioned that is better than the official Hdhomerun App. Nexus next time don't be cheap and have those video codecs you know that your getting a geeky crowd to buy these type of devices. Overall I believe I will keep this device now that the Hdhomerun is working better on this device. You can also use the DLNA support on Xmbc for viewing channels as well, FYI.
Can anyone make the Tune n View apk available.
With root & running LolliRock, the "No Carrier ASUS FUGU" aka Nexus Player, is not eligible to download the app via web, and I cannot seem to locate a legit apk to sideload.

My NP is unrooted but I'm sideloading apps to try them out and I would love of copy of this apk as well. Can't seem to install or download from the Play store either. Thanks.
I'll be curious to see once the VLC for NP is updated to work with streaming over network. That could be a solid option as well.
Thanks.
Dan
I purchased an HDHomeRun Prime and it worked great for wired devices on my network. But it didn't work so great in my dualband 5g wireless setup. So that translated to an awful experience with my Nexus Player. I wonder if it is because it seemingly doesn't compress the Live TV cable stream out of the HDhomerun (mpeg or transport stream 'ts' output).
Instead of trying to load a usb wired network connection on my NP, I just sent the device back and got a refund. Great in theory, not so pretty in real world application.
