[Q] Any good plastic screen protectors out there? - Galaxy Note 4 Accessories

I haven't seen a "perfect" glass protector yet nor do I want to pay like $30-40. What do you guys recommend for an affordable plastic screen protector? It doesn't have to be completely edge to edge coverage, but I would like it to cover more than just the viewable display portion.

The iloome light has no halo, it's 9h in hardness and can be picked up for under 30 dollars. I've had mine since late February and have had no issues.

I was under the impression that all glass protectors leave halos or if you're lucky enough, few might be halo free. I didn't want to risk that. Does your screen protector stop right at the black display border or extend out a little bit? Also, does it reduce sensitivity if using moderately thick gloves? I already have increased sensitivity on so I can use gloves with the phone in the winter and don't want to lose that feature. Thanks for your suggestion.

The protector stops at the edge of the display. So it's not one of the edge to edge protection protectors.
I don't wear gloves, but if it works with plastic it would work with glass.

Might put this on the maybe list. I'm still not 100% convinced due to the amazon reviews.

Here's a video from Flossy Carter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S28PgCFU_lY
If I had another camera I'd take some pictures of mine, but I have no other phone with me.

Invisibleshield HDX, going on 6 months strong. I had the iloome first and it started to lift on the edges or one of the corners.

Techmatte screen protectors are awesome, and priced really low!
Here is a 3 pack for less than $5, and it's Prime eligible

Are you guys running these screen protectors with a case? I am using an Otterbox Defender like case and wonder if halo issues would increase with that.

Right now I'm using Extreme Guard. So far no problems. Not the best and not the worst. I got mine off of Ebay last week for $1.99 and free shipping.

Do you have the dry or wet version? Is it plasticy or rubbery? The pic of the knife stabbing the screen protector makes me think that it's more rubbery meaning it'll be grippy instead of smooth.

I got the wet. 5 days on it and so far its really nice. Took a few days to settle but that's normal. Go here.....http://www.xtremeguard.com/
They got some good deals going on now.

I've had good luck with the Zagg Hdx. Bought it at Best Buy and had them install it. I believe it was around $18. After about 2 months, it still looks good. Covers to the edge of the screen.
It's not as smooth as glass, but not bad.

Using the Zagg hdx w/ Otterbox Defender for a couple of months, no halo, no lifting. You need to change the S Pen tip to the gray one. Not as smooth as glass has very good fingerprint resistance. I had the iCarez glass & it was a fingerprint/dust magnet to the point I had to remove it.

How is the clarity with the hdx? I noticed a few users saying clarity is reduced like you rainbow/pixely effect. Also that the spen leaves marks?

I guess if you pressed the S Pen hard enough you could mark the hdx but I've not had that problem. Reason you change the tip to the grey one is it glides much better on the hdx. Screen clarity to me is every bit as good as it was with the iCarez glass. I also used the iCarez film before their glass one and that was terrible screen clarity, the hdx is a night & day difference between a film plastic protector. Keep in mind anything less than 9h tempered glass is going to be a compromise. For me the no halo/no lifted edges and the fact that I'm tired of trying to find a glass protector makes the hdx a good compromise.

I also think the clarity is fine on the hdx. I grew tired of going through glass protectors that all had the halo effect too.

I went with the hdx. Not too impressed with it. Some of the edges do not stick fully and I hear some squeaks as I glide my finger across the screen. I also notice a mild rainbowy/pixely effect on white backgrounds.

Excuse my ignorance, just out of curiousity is there a reason you (anyone here) would choose a plastic protector over glass?
In my experience plastic is such a pain always had to have my lady partner apply my plastic ones I would always get those bubbles.. never got them since I moved to glass, and it's so much easier to apply.. just put it on and watch the air run out the sides
Extremely cheap on eBay even though I get the best buy discount. Even got the explosion proof glass so it will be safe if my phone explodes!

I would've loved to chosen a glass protector, but from what I've seen most get halos. Some are lucky and do not get them. Also they are priced a lot higher. Which glass are you using?

[Pictures] Spigen SGP Ultra Crystal Screen Protector

I got my screen protector in the mail today and put it on my phone. I figured I should share my thoughts along with some pictures for those who are looking at screen protectors.
The pack came with two screen protectors, a squeegee, some dust removal stickers, and a small micro fiber cloth. The protector was not too bad to put on, pretty similar to other dry application ones and the Realook which I have used on my Samsung Vibrant. It was kind of tough to align because the screen protector is literally exactly the width of your screen, so if you're off alignment, it looks horrible.
The screen protector is definitely super clear. It also is a fingerprint magnet, and it feels slightly tacky. I'm hoping that tackiness will go away as it gets more use, because I like being able to glide over my screen smoothly.
One huge disadvantage with this screen protector is that because of the curved screen, the protector only covers the flat part. It is definitely noticeable when you see it closer. I tried taking pictures to depict this. I also with they would have just had the protector cover the FFC. I'm not sure how it would actually affect the optics (if at all), but I really hate that cut out! Overall, I'm decently content with my purchase, but I would love to see pics and reviews for BSE when those arrive since I'm considering that for the back, and even replace the front if I end up not liking the Spigen.
Thanks so much for these. I used the SGP on my Gnex and loved it. There's something special about these Crystal series ones but I don't remember what it is.

I got the Ultra Clear for my N4. It hasn't arrived yet, so for now I'm using my spare One X Oleophobic. The Oleophobic is great, really good for repelling fingerprints, I would have got it but when I bought my N4 UltraClear they weren't selling the Oleo. Thanks for the pictures, it seems to fit a lot better than the One X SGP protectors did on the One X. Doesn't look too bad at all.
I got the crystal clear and I have the same issue with the protector being too small. I know that this has been the case with some their other protectors, but I'm going to have to try some other brands. I can't stand it being cut off like this.

The Spigen website.
I wonder if using the Google Bumper will hide the fact that it doesn't quite reach the edges.
I got the oleophobic one in today from SGP, it doesnt cover the whole screen either. Better than nothing i guess for now.
I'm starting to have a huge distaste for the curved screens. Feels nice with the hardware buttons on my S3, but looks like utter garbage with a screen protector.

The bumper does not cover it.
Also big warning for people looking to buy SGP: The light sensor is covered by this screen protector (not cut out like most) and it interfered with the functionality of the phone. In the past I've had screen protectors that went over the sensor without issue, but with this particular protector and phone, it did not work.
For example if i went to make a phone call, the screen would stay dark even if i took the screen away from my face. Also auto brightness didn't work either. I had to cut the film to expose the sensors. Everything is working normally now. Anyone else have this issue?
Also received mine today, dont have the phone yet though. Not feeling too happy about it already seeing as it doesnt cover the curved screen too well... Money down the drain then :s
Mine will arrive today and I plan to put it in a case so its not a big deal. The SGP on my Note 2 didn't go all the way to the edge either. A tpu case fixed that and everything was covered.

Good thing I waited. I am planning on using this phone with screen protectors only and I can't pay for a high quality one that looks pretty bad IMO.
Looks great. SGP never usually covers the entire front. It is always just a tad bit smaller.
You guys do know it has to be cut smaller because the curved edges will make the protector peel right?

Yes, I'm just hoping someone finds out a way to make t stick over the curved glass. I guess I am going to have to go with a wet screen protector.

Yes, but it stops way short of the curve. It literally just covers the display (width wise). They could have extended it a bit further. This is going to leave a gap, even with a TPU case on it.
How is the smoothness of these screen protectors? I really like the way zagg HD screen protectors feel and I'm looking for something similar.
Just received mine today. Installation was straightforward and the dust removal stickers easily snatched up the remaining few bits of dust at the end. The surface slickness is shockingly poor at first but improves drastically after just a few minutes.
The film doesn't run all the way to the edge due to the curvature of the screen, but there may be a solution. Steinheil makes a dry application edge to edge film called Curved Crystal for the SGS3 which also has a curved edge screen. If there is enough interest, I'm sure they will make one for the N4.

I'm not sure how smooth the zagg HDs are, but right after you put the screen protector on, it is really tacky. But it gets much more smoother as you use it. I think that as you use it more, you're depositing more skin oils onto to screen protector and it kind of "seasons" the screen protector.
This sounds weird, but I just put a bunch of fingerprints on it, then I distributed it using a dry kimwipe (i'm sure a microfiber would work too) and after using it for about 24 hours, it's pretty much as slick as you would expect from the bare glass. Also, of course there is no orange peel feeling since this is a dry application screen protector.

LUVVITT Tempered Glass Screen Protector

So after reading a bit on lots of different threads here and many other boards, I decided to pick up a couple of the LUVVITT Tempered Glass screen protectors.
I ordered from Amazon and got them for $10 each and free shipping (Prime)
I gotta say, it was the easiest install I have ever done. I started off with the hinge method but I used painters tape and it fell off and I just lined everything up and pushed down in the middle and watched the self adhesive. It went on VERY easy. I did this in a kitchen, (not in the bathroom with hot shower on for the steam) and I didn't get a single piece of lint on either of the installs.
Mine were cut essentially perfect. Cut outs were right on and everything went together pretty much perfectly. As a note, there were a few tiny bubbles in certain areas. I thought at first it was dust but pushed lightly down and it would disappear. Over the next 24 hours they vanished and the protector is now smooth as glass.
I do notice that it does seem to get smudges and some fingerprints, but with a quick swipe of a microfiber cloth (included) or an Oakley glass bag (which I always have on me) they disappear.
This really is a great buy over the glass that costs 2-3 times a much. I recommend this product if you are looking for a screen protector and want more but don't want to pay $30 for it. This is pretty dang good, as good as the ZAGG that is on my buddies phone. We compared them and you cant tell the difference at all.

Appreciate the input, I was thinking about picking this up. I know mime ghost are top of the line but also don't want to spend a fortune on a screen protector. Will pick this up
Isn't 9H hardness a little bit too high ? i mean yeah it's gonna be very scratch resistant but it will break very easily too...
How easy/obstructive is the home button cutout? I am curious if you can use the fingerprint sensor without any issue.

The harder it is the easier it breaks, from tension or from shock.
But, hardness gives resistance to scratches, because any material would need to have the same or a higher hardness to be able to scratch it.
So it depends on what you want, gorilla glass has a hardness of 7, it means that the only the things with a higher number will be able to scratch it.
When you take a look at gorilla glass, it breaks very easily, the perfect hardness for a glass protector should be a little higher than 7.
That way in case of shock the glass protector, having a little higher hardness, will dampen the shock by breaking before the glass.

Interesting, I have not ever thought that much about it. This type of glass bends, its almost scratch proof and its shatter proof. If you drop your phone with it on, it will shatter and leave your digitizer unharmed. The hardness rating has more to do with the scratching, etc. You wont find a glass protector with under 9H and its way better than having a normal screen protector as it prevents your screen from shattering.

The only glass protecter i ever had was a 5 hardness and it could barely bend, it was just like glass they shiped it in a armored box lol ( just kiddin ) so it wouldn't break during shipping.
Well if we all agreed, then life wouldn't be very interesting.
Thanks for this. I bought an Iloome for 25$ for my S4 and I thought that was a tad high... Especially since I broke it a month in. But it was my fault. 10$ is way more palatable.

actually, don't worry too much. i've used mediadevil on my S2 and it's been great. they're available for the S4 too.
Actually, you don't need to apply any protector to your phone, if you can stand for very minor scratch to your screen.
The corning glass is excellent scratch proof, I have been using no screen protector since my first iPhone 4 and coming with samsung s3, s4, iphone 5 and etc.... What you get is a better screen, color and contrast if you just don't mind the minor scratches.

I bought a cheap glass screen protector off of amazon. It was some generic one from China. With Amazon prime free shipping I couldn't pass it up.
pros: super clear, finger print resistant, protects screen well
cons: breaks after some abuse (though better this than the screen)
When my first one broke after considerable abuse I ordered two more to replace it. at $10 it wasn't bad. When the one I have on now breaks, I'll just pop my backup on and order another spare.
This cheap and the feel of real glass vs the Ghost Armor I had before, it's great.

I got mine on eBay and have the same philosophy. The glass fells like the screen and under abuse the tempered glass will crack.
It happened to me recently and I installed my spare and bought two more.
Can't beat the way the glass ones look and feel.
I also bought an aluminum button to extend the factory button. So now the home button is not recessed.
I have had my iloome screenmate for a good while and it hasn't cracked or anything and it has been used.

$20 is cheap insurance to protect your screen. A plastic one isn't going to protect your screen from damage. It may protect it from scratches but not from being busted if your phone is dropped.

You can't go wrong with the SPIGEN SGP Premium Tempered Glass Screen Protector, once you install it correctly it really holds and protects the screen from pocket scruffs.
My cousin got into a motorcycle accident last year and the screen protector w/ the Spigen slim armor case protected his phone.
Tempered glass is the only thing for me from now on. $5 on eBay. Feels excellent, optically clear to me. Same screen sensitivity to me.
No need to blow 20+$ on big names. I break it, buy 5 more. No big deal.
Buy plastic sheets and the scratch and peel off in a week.
Even no name temp glass is better.
For me is the anti-glare screen protectors, for read is the best choice.

Right now all the screen protectors are bad.
Until they come up with a new and improved version, assume all are bad.
I've tried two on Amazon and got the exact same results.
I asked for and received a refund both times.

This company says they only cover the flat part of the screen. Lie.

This one just claims a perfect fit.

Neither fits.

Thank you for pointing it out. I (and other probably) appreciate the info. Ill definitely spread the word if I find one that works, or doesn't!
I returned these based on the reviews. No phone yet so didnt test myself, but why wait to be even further disappointed

That's the only decent screen protector that fits right now. There's also a matte finish one. It's not tempered glass, but you get 8. The fit is much better than all of the tempered glass ones on Amazon. It's not 100% perfect as tiny bit of the edge don't stick but you won't notice from the distance unlike the current tempered glass.

If any part of a screen protector doesn't stick then all manner of stuff will get stuck in between. For those w/ colored borders, that's not much of an issue but completely clear ones will eventually show all the dust and stuff on it.

I don't like the feel of this stuff on the screen. It doesn't feel smooth.
It's 3M Urethane film. I have it on the front of my cars.
Ok don't try this one
Definite halo on this one

The essential screen isn't flat. I don't see a viable glass protector coming. It'd have to be super thin with a really strong adhesive to make it stick to the sides.

Actually much like the iPhone, it's flat until you get to the edge.
If the current round of protectors was 2mm smaller they would fit.
But for me, it doesn't matter.
I'm returning the phone.
There's still a thin bezel on the side that can handle adhesive on it so if they release one with black borders, I'd get it as the black borders won't show the halo effect even if it's not completely stuck on the outer edges. That's what I have on my iPhones. The display area is glass while the borders are plastic so they flex more.

Jus wait for the accessories to start coming out. Sounds like essential is open to 3rd parties making cases and screen protectors... So just got to hold on...this is what it sounded like from the reddit AMA
I have a Sopi 3M matte skin on the back and it helps with the grip a little but not by much... definitely helps w/ the fingerprints though... lol since it's matte, there can be visible smudges from time to time depending on how dirty/sweaty your paws are... I did read the AMA and they should've worked w/ case manufacturers long before release. I understand they want to keep it close to their vest until release (as to not tip off the competition) but they didn't ship the phone until much later than they said they would so in that time they could've sent out the outside schematics/dimensions to case manufacturers. No excuse!
The situation is the same for any devices that have curved edges. I'm not sure why companies just don't apply adhesive to the whole screen protector. A solution is using UV glue on a glass screen protector that isn't fully covered with adhesive. I've used the Whitedome on my Galaxy S8+ and it works really well. You should be able to buy the UV glue and UV lamp from Amazon and apply it to any glass screen protector. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KZmF8uQESI

Screen protector - NOT tempered glass but "old school" film

Hello all, I have tried a couple of tempered glass screen protectors; I have also read many many reviews.
It seems that there is no tempered glass protector that would be full screen; fit (most) cases and does not release on the edges for all.
I actually did not mind the screen protector which was installed by 1+ when I got the phone (and I did not like the tempered glass ones I tried).
So I contacted them today asking if I could buy a couple of those. To my biggest disappointment I was advised that although I am not the first one to ask, they do not consider the included screen protector to be a "product" and so they do not sell it even if I wanted a large quantity.
I spent some time researching ebay - but most (nearly all) sellers sell only tempered glass (which I don't want). The few seller that sell films are very expensive ($10+ vs. $1 for the tempered glass). That is also surprising as the cost of the film is much less...
So, my question to you all: who has tried film screen protectors? Where did you get it from and what experience did you have?
Thank you for sharing
I personally use 3MK Flexible glass - its hibrid glass. I use it from years, now on OP6. I think its the best option for any phone

How is the fit on those? Can you possibly snap a pic of it on your phone with a case on as well?

I don't have one installed at the moment, testing a G-Most TPG. But the fit is pretty precise, need patience to get it even on both sides. It's case friendly.

I installed it. its a little bigger than I'd like. if it were maybe 1 cm smaller all around it would be perfect fit. im sure you can align this to fit correctly, but it leaves no room for error. ill try and get a pic.

Hmm, thats not good. Is it equally too big each way or is it just difficult to install totally centered, so its big on one side only?
A pic would help for sure.
I finally found regular PET protectors similar to the OEM ones that fit the phone well and are of good quality. I got them from here:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/5X-Ultra-Thin-Tempered-Glass-PET-Soft-HD-Screen-Protector-Film-For-OnePlus-6/163161457336?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=462326426650&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649
The adhesive is pretty sticky on them so they don't lift off but it's hard to get them perfectly bubble free. The way I get these on perfect every time is put rubbing alcohol all over the screen then apply the protector and set it in place exactly centered (it's easy to move because of the alcohol) Then lightly push down on it and very lightly push out some of the alcohol so you don't see any bubbles. Then wait five minutes and peel off the front layer then lightly with a small cloth push out the rest of the bubbles. When the alcohol dries (takes about 10-15 mins) it will adhere perfectly and there will be no residue, bubbles or dust under the protector.
I've got an IQshield on my OP6 http://www.iqshield.com/iq32368-oneplus-6-phone-screen-protector.html
I tried a few TG ones and wasn't happy with any. They either didn't stick properly or had the annoying black border. The IQshield is the best protector I've tried.
The best screen protector is the soft nano TPU protectors they sell at ebay or aliexpress for a buck a piece and these cover the whole screen and can be applied wet with some soap and water.

I know why you are asking ...Most protectors don't cover the edges well. But this does .
I got this one:
OnePlus 6 Screen Protector, IQ Shield LiQuidSkin Full Coverage Screen Protector for OnePlus 6 HD Clear Anti-Bubble Film
From Amazon.
Accidentally dropped it on a concrete slab that had small gravel and dirt all over it about a week ago. Right out of my pocket. I do have one of those Tudia cases on it with a lip, HOWEVER some of that gravel did hit the glass. Tore up the screen protector in a couple spots. They kind of look like pin pricks but no discernible cracks or knicks in the glass what so ever, and the other scratches to the screen protector went away after rubbing with my fingers.
Talk about a freak out moment.

How is the texture and clarity of the IQ? I got a Skinomi (with has a similar product description) and personally I was not happy with the stretchy texture and less-then-smooth feel when swiping. Also, it seemed to like clarity and almost had small "webs" when looking at it at certain angles. (not bubbles)
