[Q] Z3 Camera Degradation - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Z3 is coming in the mail today and I have read a lot that rooting your phone will cause camera degradation due to the loss of Sony DRM keys. I was wondering if there is anyway around this? I have a feeling I'll be okay with Sony's firmware (or whatever it's called) for a time then I will want some more customization. Is there a fix for this or any progress towards a fix?

You can root with bl locked. Backup drm. Unlock bootloader, place back the drm.
Sent from my D6603 using XDA Free mobile app

To clarify this: rooting (without unlocking Bootloader) has no effect on any features of the Z3. Once you unlock your bootloader the TA partition with the DRM keys gets deleted and you lose some features like low light processing and PlayStation remote play (for more info search with google).
But as Aightu said, if you root you can backup your TA partition to save it. Once you unlock your bootloader you can then relock it if you want to, flash a stock firmware and restore your TA partition to get access to said features.

Front camera is Snapchat application is glitching (Read)

Hi,
I know this is an application issue but;
I have an Xperia Z5 Premium (I already posted this in Z5 Premium forum but no replies there). So I have a Xperia Z5 Premium with unlocked bootloader and with DRM patch installed, I do not have the DRM keys backed up either.
I launch Snapchat with all this, front camera works fine as it should, but I wanted to change my phone back to stock, I reinstalled stock firmware and locked the bootloader via flashtool. I launch Snapchat, and the front camera glitches very badly - It's showing green spots and tears all over the screen and lagging horribly, this is completely fine in the Sony Camera App.
Now IF I unlock my bootloader and install a DRM patch, this issue is fixed.
But I don't want to unlock my bootloader and root my device, I want it to be as stock as possible. Is there any fix to this issue?
Can someone else test this on their Z5 / Z5 Premium without the DRM keys and have bootloader locked.
Thanks
I have the same issue you are describing, but I did unlock my bootloader, I didn't install the drm fix though edit: This issue is not present when I use a custom rom so I guess it has to do something with the drm fix
I don't know how to fix this, I don't want to unlock my bootloader and/or install a custom rom but I really want Snapchat on my bootloader locked Xperia Z5 with stock rom and no DRM keys.
I'd be really grateful if someone helps me with this.. I already regret not backing my TA folder up a lot and this is the last thing I need.
I found out that this happens only when the bootloader is locked, not when unlocked.
Is there some way to fix this please?

[RESOLVED] New to Z5, how to FIX DRM

Hello everyone,
I'm here cause I'm going from a z3 Bl unlocked, custorm ROM and other to an z5 bl unlocked cause gived by a sony employee who repair phone.
But he give me it with an unlocked bootloader, then I don't have the DRM.
I don't want to make some bad things like with my z3 who have some freeze, reboot or other things.
The z5 is in 6.0, is it possible to get back the DRM to get back fingerprints and all other stuff like photo treatment,.... ?
Also, there is a operator rom with just some apps installed that I desinstalled, is it going wrong with next maj or not?
Thanks for your answers
Edit: I think that this unallow me to cast with a chrome cast?
IF the previous owner backuped the TA partition/DRM keys before unlocking the bootloader, it's possible he still have these backups in his possession OR possible he restored the TA partition after installation a custom ROM, TWRP, rooting, etc.
If you can, open the dialer and type *#*#7378423#*#*, then go to "Services tests" -> "Security"
You should see two [Active] occurences, OTP_LOCK_STATUS: LOCKED / FIDO_KEYS: Provisioned
That means the DRM keys are active and that's what you want. If it's the case, I would strongly suggest you to temporarely downgrade the phone to an older Lollipop firmware and backup them in a safe place (thre's many guides on this forum)
Personally, I wouldn't buy a second-hand Z5 that doesn't have its DRM keys intact anymore, or at least a proper backup of these keys.
I thinks it's good I have this :
Marlin key ok active
Widevine key ok active
Ckb key ok active
Huk:...
Prodid_aid:0004
Otp lock config 0155
Otp lock status locked
Auth enable 07
Device id:...
Fido keys provisioned
Factory reset reason : not found
Then I have just to find a tuto who downgrade and backup drm?
Edit: I just pay a new screen cause he was broken and old owner give it to me ^^

Seems that all DRM keys are intact, you may follow these instructions to backup your TA partition :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/cros...-tool-t3349597
Try to flash stock firmware and perform wipe on it so you could test all are working normally.
Thanks redjge,
But after put a Sim card into the phone everythings seem okay

DRM

Ok sorry for idiotic question, but what are DRM and why do i need them? i backed them up on start before rooting, now i have tested few roms and stuff. But do i need to restore DRM for better photos or something? Or os not possible to restore DRM on costum rom. Its my first sony in years
I don't know that much on DRM and Development, I'm just a passionate guy, so what am gonna say is perhaps wrong so dont blame me
DRM (Digital Right Management) are keys used to "protect" the phone.
Those keys are sets by the firm (In this case SONY)
To enable some functions on the phone.
When you buy a new phone, DRM are already set up and everything works fine, but some phone functions require those keys to work (on the Z5 x-realty photos, bravia engine display needs them to work) .
If you unlock your bootloader, you delete by the same time those key located on the TA partition and so, X reality and Bravia cease to work,
I know that on the Samsung devices the fingerprint sensor is completely disabled if you lost DRM I don't know if it's the same on the Z5.
Once deleted you can't recover them, they're lost for ever, even if you relock your bootloader !
Actually I don't know if you can recover the keys if you have backed up your TA partition, but according to what I've read you can't, BUT you can emulate them.
DRM aren't only for phone, you can find some in video games protections, computer, or that kind of stuff
So is missing bravia noticable on phone?
Actually I can't answer, I'm waiting for a locked bootloader root in order to keep the originals DRM.
Guess you should ask someone who has unlocked his bootloader and lost DRM to see if there are some noticeable changes?
I don't see a big difference regarding X-Reality, but where there's a big difference is in the photos taken without the DRM keys.
If you want to root your phone and keep the DRM keys, read this: http://twigstechtips.blogspot.ch/2016/04/sony-z5-compact-root-without-losing-ta.html?m=1
I'm currently trying to get the TA partition restored on a stock non-rooted ROM
Ivory flaw is only available on lollipop?
I'm f*cked then I'm running Marshmallow and I don't want to flash a new Rom wiping everything :crying:
Thanks but I'll try later if there no root for Locked BL on Marshmallow

Unlocked the BL without backing up TA Partition on my XA2 ULTRA..! Any suggestions ?

I know about the TA partition containing the DRM keys and backing it up from my previous XPERIA PHONES experience. However this time, I just unlocked the BL without thinking about TA backup :crying:. I tried to find some forums on it for XA2 ULTRA, but there is no specific well detailed thread on TA Partition backup for XA2 ULTRA. So what is the deal now? Have I lost my DRM keys + official SONY WARRANTY?:silly: Is there any workaround of restoring these DRM KEYS + TA partition? Shall I root first before doing so or anything else?
As far as I know, once you unlock the bootloader, they're gone and there's no way to get them back, but also you're not missing much, but you are definitely no longer in warranty.

But I also didn't find any forum pertaining to XA2 ULTRA's TA Partition backup before unlocking the BL. Anyways. I think if you flash the original ROM back again, the DRM keys are included in it. May be. I am not sure.

The ROM won't re-lock the bootloader, there's no way to re-lock the bootloader, and unlocking the bootloader is what scraps the DRM keys. Sony's site where you get the code for unlocking your bootloader using your IMEI makes it clear that it's permanant. I'm under the impression that the DRM keys are different for everyone's phone, so they won't be in the stock ROM that everyone can download and reflash.

Who gives the F anyways? I bought the phone from one country and will be taking it to another country, so there is not even a single point of reconsidering back the DRM keys + Sony's official Warranty. I hope this device would last 2 years without any problems.

Unlock bootloader

Good afternoon friends.
I have a consultation, if unlock my bootloader I lose amenities that in the cell? I remember in the Xperia z1 Yes is lost features, and I have want to install mods in my Xperia xz, but without losing the characteristics especially camera that I love. Thanks in advance.

@NicoCardonaM Yes you'll lose your drm keys by unlocking the bootloader and some functionality too.
Good news is that there are work-arounds The best solution is to downgrade to MM with flashtool before unlocking and backup your TA partition and keys. Then you can use TA POC tool to inject your TA and modify the stock kernel to keep your bootloader unlocked with all the features. You can also restore the TA partition if you ever need warranty support, and the bootloader will relock like you never unlocked it
If it's too late for you to backup the DRM keys there are kernels that include DRM-FIX, you'll get pretty much all the functionality back, but your unique keys will be lost forever and warranty too.
TA backup tool: https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/universal-dirtycow-based-ta-backup-t3514236
TA POC tool: https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/poc-real-trim-instead-drm-fix-t3552893
If you already unlocked and it's too late to backup your keys you can use something like this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/development/kernel-dm-verity-ric-drm-keys-t3672452
Please read carefully before proceeding, backup your phone and all important stuff and you'll have to factory reset more than once probably...

XZ has DRM FIX in KERNEL LEVEL so even when drmkeys are LOST you can MOCK it and ALL PREMIUM FEATURES will WORK!
you can however
1. downgrade XZ on Android 6 ( MM ) and user UNIVERSAL TA BACKUP V2 script (AKA dirtycow scrip) to EXTRACT drm keys ( A file with .img extension having filesize approx 2mb )
my xperience
I have the TA.img file with me! but i never used it (YET) to enable Premium features since DRM FIX is doing job at kernel level.
however ONE DAY IF I WANT TO RE LOCK MY BOOTLOADER TO SELL THE DEVICE, I NEED TA.IMG TO RECLOCK MY BOOTLOADER
