Hello to all,
i would like to know if Chromecast works well on the Galaxy S6 with:
1) ScreenMirroring ?
2) 1080p 60fps made with the phone (smooth playback on TV) ?
3) 4K made with the phone (smooth playback on TV) ?
I really would like to buy this phone and because of the missing MHL port i want to know if it works fine with the above mentioned points.
Thanks a lot
RubenMMS2
Someone with the S6 and Chromecast that could gave this info?
thanks and best regards

i'm still waiting for the s6 but i have a s4 and a chromecast dongle
when samsung didnt changed anything i'm afraid the default "screen mirroring" function will not find your chromecast
it is only supported by samsung tv/dvd/etc..
you can add a AllShare Cast hub because as far i know this is the only supported receiver
BUT you can allways use the chromecast app to mirror your screen wich works quite well with most things
1080p is ok but i suppose 4K will not work well...
I'm afraid that clonednull is right. I have an S6 and a chromecast and it doesn't find it when using the built in screen mirroring. You have to use the Chromecast app to initiate it.
I had no idea this would be a thing. It used to worked with Nexus 5.
Could this be a Google issue and not Samsung?
The s6 is not on the list of supported devices at the moment. One can hope.

It is working quite well. I bought one for my partner which works with my S6
You have to use the Chromecast app, but Screenmirroring is supported, as are some of the basic apps like Youtube.
But of course the quality is not as good as it would have been using an MHL-Adapter( if that was possible).

It's working for me on the s6. I didn't watch a whole movie, but I got it to connect with Amazon instant video with screen mirroring. When you first turn on Chromecast in the upper left there is a menu that says "devices." In that menu you will find screen mirroring. It says it's a beta version.
There are already 2 things about this phone that Irk me.. Both being chromecast compatibility and MHL. I hope these issues can get worked out ASAP. dont know why samsung could not make the device at least MHL compatible...

I tried this last night. It does not work - it just searched for channels indefinitely. Also in the thread there is talk of it not working anymore even on the ADT1. I guess changes to lollipop broke the app.

Well hopefully they get this worked out this is my main reason to buy this so I can ditch comcraps cable boxes
That was broken with changes to Android TV by Google. But give Silicondust some time, they are probably working on a fixed version.
As someone who got to play around with it a lot on my ADT-1, I can say it worked pretty good for a test app on a test build of android tv.

You can still do that without this. If you have an pc you can use as a pvr then there are xbmc addons that will enable you to watch/record live tv from the nexus player. Even better since you get pause/rewind as well, which I assume this app did not have given the lack of storage for live tv buffer on these devices.
Sent from my Nexus 5
I got mythbutnu set up I'm just not a fan of the xbmc style channel guide. Seems like they were working on a lean back style interface with this app that I was interested in
SiliconDust VIEW app works outside TV Input
The latest update to SiliconDust's HDHomeRun VIEW app hit the Play Store on Friday. While it doesn't tune properly from within the TV Input Plugin on my Nexus Player, I can access my channels perfectly by launching the VIEW app itself (which has the same interface as on a tablet). While it's not showing up in the Play Store on the Nexus Player, you can install it from the web version of the store and it will show up properly in the leanback launcher.
The activity on their development forum for Android TV makes me hopeful that they'll have it sorted out soon. The changelog listed support for Android L and Android TV, but only stated support for the ADT-1. I assume some of the remaining issues may be having to do with ARM vs x86, but I don't have an ADT-1 so I can't be sure they don't have the same problems at this stage.
so if the apps works can you tell us does the video stutter when viewing hd channels?

Works on my hd homerun prime.

Do you have an AC router
I have a trebdnet AC 1900. Still stutters om HD from time tv time. It may be that the quad atom processor have more power than the amazon fire processor or it may be that it takes advantage of the AC speeds.
Yeah forgot that I have a usb ethernet adapter. Maybe that's why mine doesn't stutter.
Sent from my Nexus 5
I have a HDhomerun Dual. The View app works for me on Nexus Player. Seems like there's a little stutter in picture every now and again (unit is about 1 foot from an asus 68u). But may just be my imagination. Def better than on my Nexus 5 tho, which is practically unwatchable even 10 feet from the router.
Turns out the View app works for my Prime as well. The TV app only gives audio, and only on some channels.
Another app to try

If you can not get it to load email the developer and see if he can give you a beta so you can try it on the Nexus player. It is better than the HD homerun app on the market. It is called Tune N View it works if the Mysterious Nexus box plays MP2, MP4 and AC-2 audio if it does not support natively it does not work. It works on Minix 8 and other boxes that support those video and audio formats. If this does not work I will place my order of this box on Ebay and just return it and work with what I have. I called Nexus support and they could not tell me which video and audio formats this device supports, really? That's like buying a car and the dealership not knowing what engine it has. I am trying this although I have a fully rooted amazon fire tv which works great. I am hoping this device can deliver with this app and the following:
Root to install external hard drive
My nexus 4 has 16 gigs whats up with 8 gigs?
XMBC (just in case Tune N View does not work)
xbox 360 wireless control support
Hdhomerun App
Finally I was able to compare Nexus Player vs Fire Tv for usage with my homerun prime. I can say that it most be the combination of the Asus AC1900 that I got along with the processor which makes it work alot before with much less stutter then with the fire tv box. The one gripe I have with Nexus why provide much less video codecs support off the bat compared to google tv boxes like my sony box. Tune N View works great on Google Tv (one of the few apps I love on Google TV). Basically less stutter device has less power put they have the needed video and audio codecs. The developer is always involved and did I already mentioned that is better than the official Hdhomerun App. Nexus next time don't be cheap and have those video codecs you know that your getting a geeky crowd to buy these type of devices. Overall I believe I will keep this device now that the Hdhomerun is working better on this device. You can also use the DLNA support on Xmbc for viewing channels as well, FYI.
Can anyone make the Tune n View apk available.
With root & running LolliRock, the "No Carrier ASUS FUGU" aka Nexus Player, is not eligible to download the app via web, and I cannot seem to locate a legit apk to sideload.
Looking for this APK as well...

My NP is unrooted but I'm sideloading apps to try them out and I would love of copy of this apk as well. Can't seem to install or download from the Play store either. Thanks.
I'll be curious to see once the VLC for NP is updated to work with streaming over network. That could be a solid option as well.
Thanks.
Dan
I purchased an HDHomeRun Prime and it worked great for wired devices on my network. But it didn't work so great in my dualband 5g wireless setup. So that translated to an awful experience with my Nexus Player. I wonder if it is because it seemingly doesn't compress the Live TV cable stream out of the HDhomerun (mpeg or transport stream 'ts' output).
Instead of trying to load a usb wired network connection on my NP, I just sent the device back and got a refund. Great in theory, not so pretty in real world application.
I have a Samsung Smart TV series 6203.
My HTC One M8 is S-off, with ViperONE rom.
Screen mirroring from my HTC One M8 works fine, meaning audio and video are working, everything that appears on my phone is mirrored exactly on the TV screen, EXCEPT for Netflix videos. When I open the netflix app, everything still works, I can see the Netflix menu on the TV, but once I play a video, the video player shows no video (audio is OK), I can see the frame of the video player, I can see the time bar on the bottom, but just no video.
I searched and can't find anyone with similar problem, most people have problem making the mirroring work, but mine is fine just no Netflix video. Could it be because of copyright issues, that Netflix disabled it because of copyright?? but this user DUGLESSM did it successfully in his youtube video "2013 SAMSUNG SMART TV SCREEN MIRRORING A S4 WITH NO DONGLE SCREEN MIRROR" (sorry i'm not allowed to post outside link yet) at about 6:55 into video.
any help will be appreciated, thanks.
Did you find a solution for this? I have the same problem with tmobile note 5 rooted with cfautoroot 6.0.1 it happens with hulu, netflix, Amazon video, hbonow.com. YouTube will work, but not the other video streaming services. Every other feature works fine with screenmirroring. The video just goes black on the TV but still plays on phone fine.
Google?

I have the same problem described HEREand have searxhed and searched and am searching right now and is how I came across your thread.. lets get this fixed. Btw i can get slingtv to work also i am beginning to thinkit is the app services themaelves. Lets jeep this thread going.
Found an answer HERE I had come across the fix of disabling hdcp in build.prop but didn't know own what it really meant. Basically hdcp is DRM or copyright protection and when you alter your stock software the apps that use hdcp will not function properly. There is no current or expected fix.

Netflix connection error from a phone/tablet to TV
Has anyone found a fix yet for mirroring Netflix to a TV using a phone or tablet please?
As with everyone else I see my phone mirroring function works fine too but as soon as I hit play the TVs mirror function is cancelled. Someone suggested a rooting problem fix but my Samsung Galaxy S7 is not rooted so is there another fix please?
Netflix Mirror Black Screen.
The Black Screen issue is not due HDCP,content protection or everything else you may heard before.is more of a Bug.Here's the fix.

on my s5 when i played a video i had the small icon on the top of the player when i hit it i could stream it to my tv or xbox ect.
i read that The video player has been simplified too and the DLNA view is gone. You can still send video files to DLNA players or use screen mirroring.
how do you send the video to dlna players now ?
the only way i can find to do this is to open quick connect then select the files i want to play then stream them, less then ideal and slow at going through the multiple steps.

anyone at all please ///
The S6 isn't officially supported for screen casting yet. Expect to see see that icon return to the stock player then. I have been trying to play with chromecast screen casting and it is crashing constantly. Hopefully they update the chromecast app soon. As for DLNA I haven't seen an option For it in the stock software, grab bubbleupnp from the play and you can stream again.

Hi guys. On my old Galaxy S5 in the video player i was able to see and play movies directly from an external HDD connected to the router (nearby devices tab). Now on my new Galaxy S6 Edge i can't do that anymore. Someone knows how can i see and play movies form the external HDD connected to an Asus router? Thanks!

Looks its a strategy of samsung because note 4 doesnt have dlna as well (and didnget it long after launch).
But no one seems to care about here? Im pretty decieved , but now sony are making great phones. I will trade mine for z4 or 5 if i find the oppurtunity
Bye samsung

Note 4 doesnt yet have it and was launched sept 2014. No it was dropped on purpse by samsung. Sadly i didnt know that before i bought s6 . No review mentionned it because it strangely dsnt look important for most users i assume.
Download a 3rd party app like Skifta! It worked on an older phone. It's the best dlna app.

As fun as it is to be indirectly told I'm either A) wrong or B) lying, I promise you that this works on my S6 after the 5.1.1 upgrade. I use it all the time. Maybe it's carrier-specific? What carrier are you on? What video app are you using?
And when you say "That doesn't work" (tech support person's dream), what do you mean? Do you not see the option? Do you see the option, but no destination? Do you see the destination, but the content doesn't transfer?

Sorry for the misunderstand, I dont want to tell you are lying. The option exists but it doent work with windows media player on my pc (that is my only use of dlna since i have no connected tv ..) with the exact same configuration that used to work with my s4
Im under 5.1.1 / 920f / windows 10 / wmp
So could you tell if it works with your pc ?
Moreover samsung didnt mention its dlna support at launch (wich i thought they simply forgot such a basic feature ) neither announced it was back wih 5.1.1
Sorry again for any bad impression i left earlier.

Thanks, and no worries. My response was a bit tongue-in-cheek.
I think the problem stems from you asking about something different from the initial question. The initial question was how to send content from the phone to the TV, which is what I answered, and which does work, and which is, I believe, DLNA.
What you seem to be asking about is how to view content from your PC on your phone. I'll admit that I had a mighty struggle with that, even on the S4, so I have never tried it with the S6. If you got it working on the S4, you're already a step ahead of me. I never bothered with trying to do it on the S6, and if I want to view content on my phone, I just transfer it over either by hooking up a cable or by using FileDrop, although the latter is kind of slow.
Now I can be more precise about my problem. I can't share content between WMP under windows 10 and my S6 , thing that I did easily with my S4 with the same configuration.
I thought first that it was due to DLNA incompatibility since it was not present in the S6 launch. But now I tried on a smart TV and it works great. Still though I can't detect my phone with WMP and vice versa. I think that is DLNA as well so no reason it doesn't work.
If someone can do than it should come from my settings. Otherwise It's something samsung deleted.
Edit: third party DLNA apps work well.. so the problem is with samsung video app. What a shame they drop such options!
hi,
I use popcorn with the AM7 and I would like to watch it on the TV screen. Do you know how it could be transformed? I don't think chromecast will work (unless someone will assure - popcorn is not gallery...)
1. software option?
2. if not - what cable do we need?
Thx
I'm using it with chromecast, works great!
Popcorn and netflix works great and you can even turn of mt7 display to safe battery.
For kodi you have to keep it on (in screen mirroring modus)

Do you use the original Chromecast hardware, or an identical Chinese stick is enough?
Does the Chromecast enable the mirroring icon on the cell screen to choose?
Does it real 1080p on screen without loosing quality?
Also sound?

Yes in chromecast enabled apps i get the chromecast icon, i have a genuine chromecast and video & audio is good. No stuttering etc (but that can also depend on your router)
Anyone tried screen cast without WiFi network to a Smart TV? If yes kindly help me with the way out.
Coz my counterparts can do it with every other phones ( Xioami, Samsung etc...) very easily. But the same is not possible as I found out that option is not available through pixel phones. Is that info correct?
Pretty much every phone and TV supports "MirrorCast".
But the Pixel 4a only support "ChromeCast", so it can only cast to a chrome stick or other chromecast compatible device (many TV's don't support chromecast)

I tried very hard to find a solution, but NG.
BEWARE, a lot of apps in the play store will "say" they will allow your phone to do mirrorcast, but ALL of them simply bring you to the "cast" settings in your phone, and most phones do support mirrorcast so it will seem like the app works. But on pixel phones, these apps will simply bring you to the chrome cast settings.
