Hi
After about a week since I got the 2nd lollipop update on my Z3 this issue started to appear...
I put my phone on the charger (dock mostly, but direct usb has the same behaviour) and after 30 min it says it does not charge. I leave it overnight and the battery doesn't move much (1-2%), no mater if display is off or in dream mode - clock.
I use the original Sony accessories and I tried swapping with my Z tablet and it charges OK. The tablet's cable and charger doesn't work as well for my Z3.
Only way I'm currently able to charge it to full is to turn it off completely while charging. Strange is it seems to hold ok if charged to max - 8h screen time or so.
Tried factory Reset from the options but I think ita the same... For 5h it charged 5-10% or so
Device is not tempered in any way - no root, Rom change etc.
Device is from end of December.
Tell me what more I can legally try before resorting to customer service? Can this even be a HW issue?

Try repairing it with sony pc companion if that doesn't work try flashing another ftf file through flash tool. Download the ftf file from" xperi firm" it lying somewhere in xda
Unfortunately it seems the PC repair you suggested wont help me. After 30min of charging with the dock it complained its not charging
Tried to charge with compact battery, 2A iPad charger and all seem insufficient - Ampere shows under +200mA with no accounts and lowest display setting...
I guess I'm off to the repair shop...
Guess the 2nd thing you suggested was reflashing the device? Dont want to risk guarantee as I probably, already need it.

By this you mean I must make back up of my original fw and return to it before getting the z3 for service?

As long as your bootloader is locked, SONY won' t ask any questions.
And you must flash a ftf coresponding to your firmware.
Well i tried several tft

D6603_23.0.A.2.98_Customized_20UK
D6603_23.0.A.2.93_Generic_20GLOBAL
All charge slow...
I even saw the estimation in lockscreen - 30% batt, will be full in 17 hours
Guess I'm off to service tomorrow Hope its still waterproof when they return it >_>

facing same strange issues. at first thought it was wall charger problem, then i used the usb cable and charged the phone with my dock and charges pretty fast. Then tried with another wall charger with same usb cable and no charging.
Same usb cable with dock, charges well, same usb cable via laptop, no detection at all.....
Someone else faced same issues ??
My charging with usb or magnetic dock is the same.
Maybe your micro usb port has issues?

I don't think so as tested with other wall charger and no issues, but when back with original wall charger and usb cable same problem

So I got my Z3 back YAY
Cant belive I made it so long w/o mobile net...
They didnt say what was wrong, but they replaced:
Motherboard
A part....
Battery
Charger
USB cable
Strangely first two days I was able to charge it ONLY with the supplied cable and 1.5a charger. With the original Sony cable (tablet Z and Z3 looked, and are labled the same) or using few different PCs was futile...
The new cable has somewhat bigger connectors and is labled 14w5, so I gueas its a 3A cable (5v*2.9a).
Thankfully today I managed to emergency charge from crappy old pc (xp) with a few cents 3m long cable... Just for 3h from 8% battery ? .
Only crappy thing is the service was in the gypsy land of Greece so there are 2 scratches around the Sony logo on the front. Thankfully none at the camera lenses or the actual display.
They refused to fix it and gave me instead a plastic original Sony protectors for front and back.

Try a different charger? Also, if the phone was charged by USB, use the wall charger instead. Some USB ports may cut power when the computer is asleep, etc. For instance, I usually connect my phone to my PC using the USB ports on my monitor (just because they are conveniently located). Those ports get shutdown when the computer goes to sleep, which I always forget.

Well she plugs into the wall, never the computer. And the charger she uses is the charger that came w/ the phone. If its the charger that could possibly be the issue then I'll tell her to get it swapped out at an at&t store but I really don't think that's the issue honestly

Chargers can definitely just crap out, even if new. MicroUSB chargers are pretty common, and I've used ones for other devices (like my Motorola Bluetooth headset) on my One X just fine. If you have another MicroUSB charger laying around, its worth checking (just to eliminate the charger as the cause) rather than having to run to the store.
Otherwise, its possible there is something wrong with the microUSB jack on the phone itself, or some other hardware or software problem with the phone. If the charger is not the problem, backup personal data and factory reset the phone. If the problem still occurs, I'd recommend getting a warranty replacement.

Can you confirm that there was a "lightning bolt" in the battery icon in the status bar? If it's charging, there should be a lightning bolt in it. Check when you plug in the charger and just before unplugging it. If the lighting bolt is missing then most likely there is no current going into the device to charge the battery. It could also be a bad battery if the charger is working fine.

I Have A Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 I Got It About 8 Months Ago I've Used The Samsung Official Charging "Cable" For Most Of That 8 Months but about 2 months ago the cable became loose at the Samsung cable to tablet end exposing the wires so I was careful with it and put it away and used my friends official cable then he needed it back so I went off and brought a generic cheep cable for $3.50 So all was good there but slowly I've noticed my battery going crazy like taking longer to charge "2 Days to full" and things like it discharging by 2% when I am on Google while its on charge and when its off charge playing 1 game uses almost all the battery.
so being the awesome soldier that I am I made myself a 5cm cable hoping that the long cable I was using had something to do with it but still I had the problems listed above so I did some Googleing and maybe a 2.5A charger would be helpful But its not recommended. also I sent a email to Samsung and being the "SUPER HELPFULL COMPANY THAT THEY ARE" has not responded to my emails in the past week's Also I Spoke To A live chat person thing and Being "Soo Helpful! " Said that its a hardware fault and I need to take it into a Samsung repair place and fork out $100+ Bucks to get it fixed "HELL NO AnT No BoDy GoT TiMe FoR ThAt" so I didn't go to Samsung to get it repaired so I want to know if any of you guys out there have any idea to fix this problem im having because its so hard to do anything.
Just Checking my emails while its on charge uses %4, On Google for like 5 mins Uses 2%, Playing A Game For 30Mins Uses Well Almost Flattens It, And Watching Some YouTube Takes It Down To 0% And Then Shuts Down( I Watch Lost Of Videos) All This While Its On Charge
At The Moment How Im Copeing Is I Carry Arrount An Inverter And A 12V Battery To Keep It Charging
The SGN 10.1 charging cable is a specially designed cable to deliver 2.1A 5V to the device.
Most "cheap" cable on the market can only deliver 0.5A - 1A 5V when used to charge SGN 10.1
You should find the correct cable specifically built for SGN 10.1

Thanks but how can a cable make all the difference i managed to charge off my old one its just got exposed wires and it still drains when i use it
Are you certain that the battery is actually draining that fast and not simply misreporting it in the UI?
I had a similar problem where the battery didn't seem to last but I eventually noticed that a reboot would completely change the amount of charge remaining, sometimes by as much as 20%. I cleared the battery stats and is been fine since.

Well actually when-ever I turn it off it doesent charge much and if I restart it the battery stays the same but over the last few days ive noticed something weird when its on chatge and I play a game it drops about 20-30% but when its not on charge and on battery it drops by about 5-6% could the charger be draining it? also I have a new new cable its generic (IM NOT PAYING $60 FOR A CHARGER CABLE) and there is no difference still does the weird charging thing also I tried the old cable and still does the same thing the olny thing wrong with the old cable is that the wires where exposed so I dident want to use it just incase it broke

If you don't want an OEM cable and charger you can buy a crap chinese one. But as you and many others have discovered - they suck. This is one of the biggest complaints I have always heard about Samsung.
The solution, and the only on that I have found that works 100% of the time is to buy a replacement from Samsung. Period. Nothing else works like the OEM parts because they aren't OEM parts.

The wiring on the OEM cable is somehow different than most cheap cable.
I'm experimenting by buying a 3M long "cheap" N8000 cable on eBay, may be it can help (delivery time is VERY long )

What ROM are you using?
Stock or Custom?
Rooted or not?
If you are Rooted (Stock or Custom) you can use Battery Calibration app to erase batterystats.bin to calibrate your battery percentage which are needed if you change ROM.

$60 just for a cable? Really? I live in the UK and I bought a whole new charger (official Samsung one, too, including a cable) for about £12 on amazon. Just go to Amazon and replace the charger, it sounds like it'll be cheaper than just the cable (probably 15-20 USD or maybe 30-35 AUD, I'm not sure what the rate is and where you live ) and if it is a charger related issue that'll be fixed too.
Just so you know, I bought the 'travel charger' (the white one) and it works perfectly. Supplies the same current and voltage, and it's a smaller unit, and cheaper! I'd just look into getting one of those.
Guys, take this one very seriously.. It just happened to me..
I was at my cousin's place when my phone's battery was at its lowest level and I was sharing photos using bluetooth. After some time, the battery reached 1%, so I immediately connected to the charger (Charger of Croma edition of HTC Explorer) then the phone immediately switched off. After that, I waited for couple of minutes, which is the time taken by the phone to boot after it is completely discharged. I noticed that the RED LED is not lit, which normally indicates that the phone is charging. After that, I took another charger (Charger of Samsung Galaxy S Duos) and put the phone on charging, left it for 2 minutes, then again I noticed that the RED LED is not lit up.. After which I disconnected the phone from the charger and removed battery from the phone, reinserted, tried booting, only the RED LED flashed for 3 times.. Then I connected to the charger again.. Still, it did not charge.
After which I came home, removed battery, held the power button for 4-5 seconds.. Then put it on charging through Sony charger, and then the phone was charging normally..
So, I would like to say that DO NOT USE CHARGERS FROM OTHER MANUFACTURERS. It will unnecessarily trouble you.
I'm using my old samsung charger (longer cable) and i have no problems with charging.

Both chargers you mentioned are for devices with small battery man. Thus, it will take more time to charge the phone depending on mV provided by the charger.
I can assure you, if you had put the charging on for a while,it would have started charging!

Sometimes, the chargers you are using have their ends worn out/damaged cable and you might find out the slow rate of charging. In phones with small battery capacity (mAH), it will make little difference.
Amperes are different for all chargers according to your battery mAh. (Xperia L has 0.8 while Nexus 7 has 2 (2013 model) while older Nexus 7 has 2.35. The more the current flows through your battery, the quicker it will charge! But remember, it might affect your "battery life".
I use between Nokia, samsung, Nexus (Asus & LG) and Sony chargers and all of them work with all devices. However, last year my Sony charger use to charge my phone in 6 hours, while my PC did in 2 hours and HTC Sensation charger did it in only 45 minutes. (Sony did the same time when charger didnot have a problem.)
Once again, if you know electronics/electrical systems well, I am sure that regardless of your charger model, its the only ampere and your battery mAh that decides how long it will take your phone to be fully charged!

I guess that's the issue with voltage provided by the charger to the phone.. Some people say that it happens to them with Sony charger too.

Hi,
couple of weeks ago, my phone starts charging slowly. Whenever I use any other charger, than original, its charges only with arround 400-700mAh - thats only 1/3 of the charging speed. The non original chargers have 2A output: Samsung car charger, ASUS tablet charger, ADATA powerbank. I tried different cables, restared the phone, charging while phone was off, cleaning the phone conector with contact spray.
The battery consumption is normal, arround 50mAh. The fast charging with original charger works OK. All the chargers, I mentoined, worked perfectly just month ago. Unfortunately, I do not have the options test the chargers on other phones, because all other are just slow chargers (1A)...
Any idea, why this is happening?
partialy solved
I perform some tasks, and it seems, that it helps:
I did: wipe system cache. This increases the charging speed from 1/4 to 3/4 (400mAh -> 1300mAh) from the powerbank. The charging speed from car charger didnt changes
Then I did factory reset of the phone and it seems, that this helps.
The charging speed is very depending on the proper usb cable used. One cable works fino on one charger, but performs bad on another...

all USB Cables have different amperes, some have 2A some have 2.1A, furthermore, it also depends on the power source, the car's charger couldn't be as strong as the wall socket i think.
Anyways, on a side note, i suggest you try Aukey quick charge 2.0 powerbank. fast charges your S6.

For my case, it happened after my phone is updated. I brought my phone to a service center unfortunately it's already out of warranty. They are asking around $90 to have my phone fixed. According to them, they need to replace the battery and the sub board.
Im really dumbfounded how this happened.
I have the same problem with my s6 I have replaced the charger port and still won't connect to the pc or fast charge
Hi guys, I'm hoping someone has a solution... my Tab 2 (GT-P3110, not rooted, stock ROM, original Samsung charger) all of a sudden stopped charging while it's on. The battery icon top right has a red cross over it and the tablet slowly discharges, the same as when it isn't connected to the power source. If I shut down, it charges but slowly - it takes around 10 hours to charge to 100%.
I tried with other (albeit generic) chargers of 2A and more - same result.
Tried also a few things found on internet, such as charging while holding the power button for 1 minute, and similar...
Before I go ahead and start butchering it, has anyone had a similar problem - how was it solved?
Thanks!

I had similar problem with one of my tabs (I got a few 3113s). I tried (what i thought was) everything. Swapping batteries, flashing new roms, resets and such. The only way I found to fix it was to install a new motherboard.
I bought a used motherboard off eBay and watch an ifixit video. 10-12 screws later. It worked.
Just sharing my experience of the red x.
Here's a link to the seller I used on ebay. I actually had 2 broken tabs to fix, so, the bundle of 3 was right up my alley.
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/151629379660

Ouch... the fix (and shipment to Europe) would unfortunately surpass the value of the tablet - can probably get a similar specs alternative unit for the price of motherboard...
Thanks for taking time to respond, though - appreciated.

In my experience, it just needs a new charger. When the charger doesn't provide enough electric supply to the tablet, the red x appears.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried with a generic (5V, 2.4A) and my other ASUS (5V, 2A) - same result.
Maybe is the cable - it has this wide Samsung plug which is hard to replace this neck of the woods, so it's difficult to check.... but that's also a bit counterintuitive, as the charging should be a binary thing - either it works or it wouldn't be detected at all - or is there more to it?
The battery must be changed. In my case I couldn't find the original spare so I just used a 3.7 v battery from a portable charging device ( it worked but not enough the charging cable is always connected... That's atemporary solution ) the red cross appears only on stock ROMs if you use any KitKat or mm
try install different ROM if the problem persists then buy new battery

The cable could also be the culprit. (Because I already experienced it and when I replaced it, Boom city it works)

i posted a somewhat similar thread, my bad. though my situation differs on a tab2 p3100.
mine does charge when power if off. however, it does not charge when power is on and the computer does not even recognize it. there is not even any error that a usb device is not being recognized, which is common error returned by windows when a usb has problem. all my drivers are okey.
and as well, the difference with mine is that i see no red x when my device is plugged in to the charger and powered on.
where on the same boat here
