Hi folks, my apologies if this is a known issue but i'm asking as the amount of info is monumental. Have been having a playback issue for a while now but i need to get to the bottom of it and was hoping someone here may shine some light on it. As the title says youtube play back is pretty poor. I have a rooted Tf101 running KatKiss 4.4.4 with the latest youtube version and constantly get stutters freezes and buffering. Thought it might be my Wifi but with my phone (LG G3) i have no such problems. Have tried clearing cache and app data, reinstalling and even older versions but with no luck. I have also tried overclocking with no luck, so am i wasting my time and this will never work properly or is there something i am missing. Again thanks for any help offered.
You need to lower the quality to 480p or use an older version.
Search forum for the latest version that works.
Will try it at a lower res first, thanks. Seems to do the trick but noticed that the 480p setting has gone. It's either 360p which is terrible or 720 which appears to be to much. 480 was good middle ground, (still shows on my G3) which is the same YouTube version. Any ideas on how I can get it back?
Was present a few days ago but now its gone.
Hello,
I have a same problem on Katkiss 5.1 (23).
Any idea ?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Free mobile app
Decided to go back to KK because its still faster then Lollipop and after formatting data and system YouTube is working great in 720p.
Pretty odd, no?

The Youtube Apps stopped working on my Nexus One. I have the stock rom. I ask my friend to test his and his does not work either. He is using Cyanogen mod 5.0.5. Is anyone else having a problem using the Youtube App? Is there a fix for this? Thanks.
Works fine here.
Think you could be a little more specific about the issue? Saying it doesn't work doesn't tell us anything at all.

Sorry about that. When I try to view a video with the youtube app it opens, but nothings plays in the beginning. Sometimes the audio plays, but you see no video. If you skip forward, you will see the video stopped and the audio continues to play. I sometimes receive the error message: "Sorry, this video is not available". I have tried this using wifi and 3G with the same result. This also happens to videos I used to be able to play using the browser. Everything worked fine about a week ago. It seemed to just stop working all of a sudden.
Fine here (UK) on Wifi and as a bonus I just watched the chatroulette piano guy that was featured and it is brilliant so thanks for getting me to test so I could see that

in my experience, that happens when the video isn't formated (or format isn't available) for mobile screen/in mobile format/whatever.
nothing is wrong with the youtube app itself.
My problem with the YouTube app is that it often takes 'forever' to start playing the video! In fact, sometimes it will never start.
Somewhat embarassing when my wife's iPhone 3G can get to the same video and play it immediatly....
Have you tried watching in High Quality instead?
I have the same problem but in a different app, Tubedroid where downloaded videos can't be seen even though I can hear it. Turns out I can't download videos in HD, only high quality.

I hate this also. I pretty much gave up on YouTube which is crazy because you would think Google would support their own software the best.
Yeah, on stock youtube takes foorrrrrever to load up a video, even on a wifi connection. Oddly enough, the version that comes with Modaco's Desire ROM loads 'em up right fast. Weird.
Someone is having problems with lag on youtube version 2.3.4? Slowdowns of every 5 seconds, in several different roms gives the same problem, now if I install an older version of youtube, the problem goes away, back to normal.
Someone is having this problem?
I tested it on two sensations, which is on my 710E and my friend who is 4G.
do the test with you, pay close attention to the video if it will not slow down, then come back normal, is 5 sec slows down again, back to normal there.
dont have any problems with mine. are you using wifi connection or 3g connection?
It happens to mine as well, except that the default YouTube App version is lagging the video playback ONLY when Timeline bar is brought up and keeps lagging unless it disappears.
I am trying to find out wether this is Software ( ROM or w/e ) issue or Hardware.
I did take my phone to warranty service and they were unable to help. Jerks.
I am seriously willing to void warranty and flash preinstalled ROM with CM or just a stock one, ONLY IF I know for sure that his is Software issue.
Note:
I did test for this issue on multiple WiFi's and 3G ... to no avail. I think it started after 2nd factory data reset I did, and nothing changes when I do the reset ...
This problem DOES NOT occure when you play the video via Internet Browser on youtube.com or m.youtube.com
I am concered about Hardware issue since phone feel sluggish overall ( slideshow scrolling when there are not that many elements on UI ... ) and it lags a bit 1080p video (picky,ye ...)
Edit :
My thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1444808
the problem is that if you install the old version of youtube everything back to normal, it is clear that the problem is in software
Well, I guess I am going to live with laggy phone/youtube app for now. Should get ICS update and see if it fixed the issue, if not...
I am going ROOT that mofo and take that *@#$ ROM down with my own bare hands.
actually, after installing the latest version of the ICS ARHD 6.1.1, which also comes with youtube 3.3.0 the problem is over.
Glad you fixed it. ICS Is the best
For now.
Hello All,
I recently upgraded my stock Xoom from HC to JB 4.1 and of course, flash stopped working. I had held off on all updates due to reports of it getting wonky after ICS, but I eventually went ahead when I kept reading of the success of sideloading the latest flash apk and using Dolphin HD or the stock browser.
My problem is, although it does work to a degree, the main reason I need flash is for Amazon prime instant streaming video and many of the network TV sites like abc.com, tnt.com, fox.com and the like. Now when I play video, it works to a degree, but is often too choppy to be watchable. A bigger problem is the audio, although the sound quality is flawless even with choppy video, it is NEVER in synch with the video. The last issue is if I try to watch full screen, the picture blacks out entirely. A minor nidge is that Dolphin keeps disabling flash on its own saying it is no longer supported.
Am I SOL here or is there any help I can hope for?
You can install flash and use the stock browser....flash will work flawlessly. As for the A/V sync issues, not a clue.

it's not flawless if the audio is delayed and it blacks out if you go full screen. Do me the favor and try to watch something on ABC.com on your xoom and report back.Thank you.

Sorry it took so long. Ok i did as you requested. I watched 3 different shows on abc, i had no lag, stutter, echo, choppy-ness, and the audio was in sync.
I would check your flash player settings. Open the Flashplayer app in your app drawer.
• Local Storage: clear data/storage.
• Local Storage: Always Allow, if this setting is currently marked then use "Only From Sites I Visit"
•Peer Assisted Networking: Enabled, if enabled try disabling it and try again.
If any changes made, Force Stop the Flashplayer app and Browser under /settings/app/ and clear cache only on both. Then try watching a show again.
As far as the screen timing out when on full screen; this is a JB issue, as JB technically does not support flash.
I hope this helps.......

Thanks so much for responding. No need to apologize for timing.
Unfortunately, none of these steps have fixed the problem. Strange that it would work on so many stock devices and not mine.
As to the full screen issue, it's not timing out. It just goes all black as soon as you hit the full screen button. The audio keeps playing however. This is true on the stock browser, Dolphin HD, and Firefox.
Thanks for trying. Any other ideas? I'm starting to think My days with my beloved xoom may be coming to a close. I just despise the thought of having to give Apple any $$$.
Hi,
Just installed the latest stable version and all is good except that some of the keys on the docked keyboard no longer work. Keys that don't seem to work are space, m, comma,l and - on a UK layout. Has anyone else come across this got any ideas how to fix or investigate?
Cheers

Wipe everything and reflash ROM & Gapps, if you still have the problem, it could be the dock failing
Make sure you wipe 100% of everything apart from External storage, that way you are absolutely sure there is nothing left behind
I also just installed Katkiss and have a different problem
I have a TF101 that runs pretty good but I was perturbed by youtube constantly buffering and Brighthouse video was jumpy. So I took the plunge and loaded the stable version of 4.4.3. All seems to be working fine except that now Brighthouse has no video and no audio. Youtube seems to be fixed. One other app is hanging and that is the Nikon document reader. For those who may not know what Brighthouse App is: Brighthouse is my internet and cable provider. The app allows me to watch TV on any mobile device in my home network. Pretty cool. It was the main reason for the upgrade and now its totally gone! Ironic! I don't know if there are codec apps that I need or what. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hello all ^^
I've been using mxplayer for quite a while, no problems so far.
I've got a samsung galaxy note 10.1 (n8010) and was on android 4.1.2 (android revolution HD)
A few days ago I flashed android 4.4.2 (gnabo rom V6).
Here's an example to explain how things gets bad.
If I play a video and use HW+ everything goes fine.
But if for some reason I go into an other app during play or if I pause and put the tablet in sleep mode, as soon as I get back to the video the app crashes and it's impossible to load another video.
I have to go into the settings, disable HW+ and then it works again.
I never had this problem on 4.1.2
Does anyone have seen this kind of behavior???
Wow, never seen that happen before. While waiting for an answer here, I would also suggest going to the 4.4.2 (gnabo rom V6) support team, and asking if they did anything funny with their hardware API stuff, bringing up this example.
For these HW/HW+ issues, it's 50/50 chance that it's an MX vs ROM issue!
Ok, I'll bring the issue over there as well
Yesterday they just made an update to 6.5 I'll do the update before asking, who knows maybe it'll fix it.
