What media? The backup files include only the chat conversations. Media files like videos, pictures and so on are stored in separate folders in the WhatsApp folder. Have a look at it on your phone.

Those type of media (pictures, videos etc.) are not part of the backup. You can manually back up those files by copying the folders Whatsapp Images, Whatsapp Videos etc. (which are inside of the Whatsapp folder on your internal storage) to an external storage, for example your external SD card. If you want to restore those files, simply copy them back into your Whatsapp folder.

Hey y'all, I was just on Whatsapp, and my friend sent me an image.I saw the pic and deleted it.. Now to be quite honest with you guys, I could get in trouble for some of those images if anyone were to grab hold of my phone and go through it....eek!!
I went to my gallery and deleted the pics.. (just to be sure i went to Whatsapp folder in SD card and checked the Image folder nothing was there)
Is it safe it assume that i have safely deleted the pic.
Or is it saved in whatsapp server and can be retrived?
Also when i clear my conversation? Is it fully cleared? Or can that also be got back?
Thanks

Actually, you can retrieve deleted things... There are numerous applications available for that... Like recuva

Going to be going from a 16GB to 32GB Nexus 5 shortly... I remember when I transferred my pictures from my old Galaxy Nexus to my N5 all of my pictures were jumbled up in no particular order. I recall doing a search fora solution after that but didn't come up with anything concrete. I don't want to go through adding them 1 by 1 again since I now have over 1500 pictures and 100+ videos. Any advice to make this easy?

Yes and no - I have a lot of pictures that my wife took from her iphone which has a different naming scheme, hence the dilemma.

Well if they are from two different types of phones, obviously they will be jumbled up due to the different naming scheme. Maybe organize them into folders on a computer and then transfer them, keeping them in folders on your device.
Just upload them to google+. They will be organised by date, and you dont have to worry about filling your storage with pictures

I have them organized in folders currently (also uploaded to my google drive - not plus). Does uploading to plus keep the folder format intact?

Yes, you can organize your photos into folders on Google+
they will stay in the same folders on your phone, nut the uploaded copies will be organised by date in the photos app that comes instead of the gallery with lollipop

Maybe if you auto upload. But if you have your files on a computer, you can create folders in Google+ and transfer them into whichever folder you want. Or if they are on your device, I use Picasa Tool to upload to specific folders. They show up in folders in the photo app.
I didn't know you could do that. Thanks for the tip
So if I was to use the G+ and upload them from my PC to G+ and then pull them back from G+ to my new phone I can have them stay in the same folders and be organized by the correct date?
I just had a look, and apparently you can set up google+ to show folders from your drive accout as albums. You just have to enable it in the photos settings page

Once you upload them and organize them in folders, you will be able to view them from your phone just how they are on G+. Just upload them and open up the Photos app. They will be in "Albums" in the photos app.

Oh yeah. I had forgotten that it will show photos from Drive. If the OP has all his photos on drive, he can just enable that.

QuickPic has the option too. Just slide from the left side of the screen and add it.
So I checked the show Google drive photos in quickpic and sure enough they are there in the folders just like I uploaded them... sadly though they are not in the correct order. Even listed by "date decend" they are kinda mixed and matched

Sometimes there is nothing you can do about it unless you edit every photos details manually. I have photos uploaded from three different phones that I have had over the past years and there are some out of order. Things that could cause this could be editing the photo. It might save the photo with the date you edited it. Using a different camera app that may not have saved all the info correctly. Basically, unless you are using the same camera, same app, and never modified an image, you will probably have some images out of order.
Be a good time to ditch the junk. Why not print the best on nice paper, frame and make your wife's dimples show!
Whenever I try to copy a .nomedia file to my folders in order to hide the media from gallery apps, they get deleted.
any ideas? I've never had this weird problem with any other phone.
I just tried it and some folders delete it while others don't. DCIM/Screenshots deletes it but DCIM/ScreenRecorder doesn't delete it. Just know that google photos will upload everything in DCIM no matter if the folders have .nomedia inside.

I actually dont care about the google photos app becuase I always have it disabled.(Data charges are too much to let it upload so many heavy photos) but I just dont want the normal gallery apps to show all my private photos (especially DCIM)
I've always used .nomedia files for this matter and by always I mean since my first android device back in 2013 so that's a bummer.
When I check the google photos app under photo settings/ back up & sync/ /back up device folders I don't see all the albums in my S22 gallery. Is anyone else having this problem?

That's known problem that users have with Google photos. I've looked into this on other forums. Google is not looking into fixing this any time soon.
I've tried multiple things but they really don't apply to what we are trying to do. For example i have a DJI (DRONE) folder that i want to back up but it's not even an option to select.
The only fix was to create a new folder in your "pictures" folder using a file explorer, and then transfer the pictures you want back up into that folder. Google photos will read the folders that are inside your "pictures" folder. You should now be able to backup that newly created folder. Hope that helps
I also wish there was a way to remove screenshots to be automatically backed up, unfortunately with Google photos there is no option to deselect the screenshot folder. Google photos is awesome in so many ways but these quirks are very annoying

Not sure what you mean, but Photos does detect images in the screenshots folder.
maybe the 100GB one drive offer is better than. anyone know if it syncs perfectly??
The problem is with Samsung phones. On previous phone Huawei, I didn't had this issue. Because in DCIM folder were only photos that I took. Everything else were in Pictures folder.
This is really annoying!

I use OneDrive and it works for me. It can be a bit confusing though so this explanation of how it works for me unfortunately must be a bit long. I do backup all except one or two folders on my computer to OneDrive. I don't remember the settings I might have initially put on OneDrive but here is what happens with my photos.
When I take a photo on my phone or do a screen capture on the phone, OD immediately uploads those to the cloud and then downloads them into a folder I have on my computer called "Camera Roll". So, within a few seconds to a minute of taking a photo or screenshot on my phone, those are available on my computer in the Camera Roll folder. Oddly when I then look at my pictures in OD, the photo will be saved there, but the screenshot will not. So even though OD syncs screenshots from my phone up to the cloud and then down to my Camera Roll folder on my computer, OD does not seem to save the screenshots in the cloud storage. But I end up with screenshots both on my phone and on my computer, so this is OK for me.
When someone sends me a photo in a message or email, those seem to get backed up by OD also. If I click the OD option to show photos from all folders, I do see those photos that were sent to me. I do get messages and emails both on my phone and on my computer, so I am not sure if it matters to OD if I first look at a photo received in a message on my computer or on my phone.
Once a photo is on my computer, if I edit it and save it to another folder on the computer, that copy will be backed up by OD also.
It gets interesting when deleting photos.
If I delete a photo from the Camera Roll folder on my computer, it is deleted from OD cloud storage also, but it is left in my gallery app on my phone. Of course, if I open OD on my phone and look, the photo is not there as it has been deleted from cloud storage.
If I delete a photo from my gallery app on my phone, as long as this photo has already been uploaded by OD, the only place it is deleted is on my phone. I like this because I can delete photos off my phone, but they stay in OD cloud storage and in my Camera Roll folder on my computer.
If I delete a photo in OD that has been previously uploaded from my phone’s camera and put into my computer’s Camera Roll folder, it is removed from OD and from the computer’s Camera Roll folder. It is left in my phone's gallery app though.
Hope this helps.

this is what i was worried about. i am trying to find an auto backup strategy where it backs it up maybe weekly. i take a lot of photos and that means i also sift through and delete many so syncing cloud and pc would be a headache. i have my phone san-photos/video already auto backed up to my samsung cloud so i'm just looking for a media sync that works for my needs. thanks for sharing.

Yes, because all photos taken get uploaded right away, and deleting a photo from the camera app does not delete it from OD, you end up with a lot of photos saved in OD that you don't really want. So yes, if you take hundreds of photos, this would be a pain. I am not sure of all the settings in OD though. Maybe you can have it backup only periodically or set it so a photo deleted on the phone also gets deleted from OD?

I am using OneDrive and immediately after I take a photo, that photo is uploaded to OD and downloaded to the Camera Roll folder on my Windows computer.
If I take photos on a hike in the woods and have no service, as soon as I get reconnected to cell service or wifi, the photos are uploaded.
Hi,
Let us assume we buy a new phone and copy the old phone to the new one, using the phone's native mover app (Mi Mover for Xiaomi, Samsung Smart Switch, etc). All the images and videos are transferred, including some WhatsApp folders: "WhatsApp Animated Gifs", "WhatsApp Video" & "WhatsApp Images". We can see those 3 folders containing all WhatsApp Images and Video on our "Image" or "Gallery" app on the new phone.
Since the transfer procedure was not transferring WhatsApp chat, we usually tried to restore all WhatsApp chats from GDrive backup (assuming we have the most current WhatsApp backup at GDrive).
What happens to the existing WhatsApp Image, Video, and Animated Gif that was previously transferred by a native 'mover' app if we restore WhatsApp backup from GDrive?
Will we have 2 copies of the same image and video files?
Or will the restore from GDrive replace old images and video from the previous restore procedure using the native backup-and-restore app?
If our WhatsApp backup size (Including images and video) has a huge size, then it is a bad idea to have 2 copies of similar images and videos in the new phone.
Thanks for the answer and suggestion.

Whatsapp encrypts user data, they have their own methods of backing up and restoring user data. Other, 3rd party methods can't handle the encryption that WhatsApp uses.
