[Q] How to block bloatware by ADB tool? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to block some of my device's bloatware using the ADB tool.
but I am facing a problem, sometimes I don't recognize the package's name or which application they represent and vice versa (meaning that many apks I don't know how to disable them cause I don't know what they would be called (like File Commander).
for example "com.sonymobile.advancedwidget.entrance" refers to "what's new" and "com.sonymobile.synchub" refers to "back up and restore".
I am using the "pm block" command, is there another command I need to use to block the apks that don't start with "com."?
Can someone list the Z3's bloatware and what should they be called when disabling them using ADB tool?

There is no bloatware list.

What is bloat for you, may not be bloat for others. So THERE IS NO BLOAT LIST per se.

I wouldn't argue with that,
But still, what I mean is, if someone with even a little experience to know the applications or apks or packages which originally come with the device and list "in his opinion" which to be blocked and which not, that would be so great.
or if he just mentioned the packages names, their functions (descriptions) and how to be blocked with ADB tool, that would be awesome.
sharing experiences or opinions, that's what this forum is about, isn't it?

I think what they are really looking for is a list of files that are safe to remove. Then they can choose what they consider bloat from that list.

This thread is an example of what this thread is about, it's of a little old xperia phone but it shows the idea.
This one is another example, with a shorter list (Z3 list) but still helpful.
now, what this is about is a more professional one like the ones that are available for Samsung.
like this, this, this and this.
so, of course there are and those who say that there aren't shouldn't phrase it that way, They could just say that they don't know.

This is from Z2 threads but it'll guide you well
It's from one older post and for KK but apps are almost all here, on LP, as well...

I absolutely agree to that statement "what's bloatware for you...bla..bla..."
Facebook is maybe bloatware for someone but for me is a business tool..
Search a bit more and ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP - that's XDA mantra and, beleve me, it's a first thing to do when you are doing something like this...
Good luck

Alternate method to installing Market content

In case there's somebody around here wondering, I'm starting a thread to show you how to download FREE apps if you don't have market access. Any FREE app you can find online in .apk form is yours. Please note you DO NOT need ROOT ACCESS to follow these steps, but I recommend it anyways, so use that nifty search bar and try it out.
Note: This is a method only for installing FREE APPS that are already free. Some people complain of not having the market app, others have market crash issues. This method is only to be used as an alternate to the Market if you do not have market access.
What you'll need:
Method of data transfer between phone and computer (USB Cord, MicroSD adapter, etc)
ASTRO File Manager- Found in the Android Market for free.
Level of Difficulty: 2/10
Procedure:
Step 1: Download ASTRO File Manager
This is self-explanatory. Go into your market and search for: ASTRO
Look for the result that reads: ASTRO File Manager
Download the app, it's free.
Step 2: Connect phone/SD to computer
Either plug in your phone and select mount, or plug your MicroSD into an adapter. Once your computer recognizes the SD card, move to step 3.
Step 3: Create free apps folder
Create a new file folder on your SD card in the top directory (meaning on the SD card and not in any other file folder). Name it Free Apps or similar.
Step 4: Download your .apk files
Search the internet for your desired applications. XDA forums and iPmart are great places to start. Once you find your application, download it and drag it to your Free Apps folder on your SD card.
Step 5: Unmount phone
This doesn't need explaining.
Step 6: Run ASTRO
Once your phone is unmounted and ready, run ASTRO File Manager. Once the application loads, it will list all the folders on your SD card. Navigate to your Free Apps folder, and select it. Once open, find your application you wish to install. It may list it twice, one with the logo and the other with a little settings logo, click the one that has the actual application logo.
Step 7: Installation
A menu will popup with two choices: Explore or App Manager. Select App Manager. It will come up with a new window, and beneath the application logo will be a button that says install. It will bring up the familiar installing are you sure screen, click yes and install it. Once it finishes, click done. Now you can install more or run your application.
That's it, enjoy your apps.
Hmm... I don't see any piracy. There are a lot of "Free" apps online. Android is Open Source. Now if he was talking about downloading paid apps for free... then we have a problem.
This is just a thread showing how to install free apps... which there are billion of online.

If you actually went to the website listed.. Its a website that offers FREE PAID android apps.. Is that not piracy?

Seriously dude you need to stop...one of the sites he mentioned has warez in it. For instance here are a few PAID apps...

Advanced Task Killer PRO v1.7.6
SetCPU for Root Users v1.5.3a
Should I go on or should I let you continue making yourself look foolish??

We dont support wares here kid. So please GTFO these forums with your ****ING ****! people work hard to make these apps so people like us can enjoy them. And they spent hours on making the apps and your here to rip them off really?
Now If you would kindly like to support the free apps for being free and the paid apps for being PAID!!!
Then you shall do this for the "goodies" aka Free apps.

You need to watch your language. This is your first and last warning.
As far as "piracy" is involved... I don't see any here. Just because the guy says there's a way for you to go throw yourself off a cliff, doesn't mean you're gonna go do it, right ?
He's offering a solution on how to install freely available .apk's. How you get them and If YOU choose to go download them, that's your problem.
Now let's play nice...
VinceOB, MyDroidHax, and Juggsy, you all really need to calm down. I may not have worded it correctly, but I fixed it. The reason I posted this was because a ROM I installed for whatever reason didn't have the market app, so I had no market access. There are a wide array of free apps on both sites, yes there are a few paid on iPmart, but iPmart is still one of the best overall sources for free apps as well. Seriously, i didn't plan on awaking to controversy.

I didn't see him drop the f bomb on u. He might have meant it that way but that would be putting words in his mouth.
Sometimes I wonder what the qualifications are to become a mod are. So far I believe the first three qualifications are ego, power hungry, and favoritizm.
Care to elaborate on the extensive and rigorous interviews and testing that took place to acquired ur higher status.
BTW win Mobil is only around cause its backed by Microsoft. Doesn't mean it's a great OS. Just that the backers have deep pockets and wont let it die.
ok, I don't like or condone the way this thread has gone. Instead of discussing the topic of free apps, its all about calling people names and slagging each other off.
@cbarlan - The f word was never mentioned by either MyDroidHax or
NRGZ28. One used "-Blam-" the other "***". It was actually you which first referred to the f-word.
But none of this matters. What matters is your respect for fellow xda users as per rule #2 below.....which by they way does mention no cursing which MyDroidHax blatantly flaunted.
2. Be polite and respect your fellow xda-dev user.
There is no need for cursing, flaming, racism or personal attacks. There are a lot of different nationalities on this forum all with different cultures, this means that no matter what you're like, you'll have to adjust to people that are most definitely not like you. For this reason we'd like to ask you to refrain from discussions about religion or politics, we do not wish to limit your right to free speech, but we have noticed these topics tend to get heated and might be best discussed in a different environment. It will gain you a lot of respect if you help to keep the peace. It's disrespectful and therefore not permitted to create Alias Member names in an attempt to deceive others.

Please remind nrgz28 who is a moderator of the rule u posted. I believe he was very rude in emplementing his harsh warnings instead of being polite and respectful. U can be stern and respectful at same time. And for future reference when someone uses stars inplace of a word it is usually vulgar. Also no need to threaten with this is ur first and last warning. Remember rule u referenced and be polite as well. I'd be willing to write up a wiki on how to use ur manners and be respectful as I've had to reach my six year old. Kinda the same thing
Thank you to the mods for the cleanup work. MyDroidHax initially used F***ING, and then edited it. I read the post almost immediately.
Anyways, I updated the post, and I wrote it at 1AM here today, so I was tired. Sorry for misconceptions guys. Like I said, I had market issues, so I found this way to help me and felt I'd share.
Yes you can get paid apps, but it doesn't mean you should or are going to. This is just a workaround to a normal situation, use it how you will.
Also, you guys really shouldn't rip on the mods. The rules clearly stated that you can't do what MyDroidHax did, and so he was told he can't. So? That's how it works, he won't do it again if he doesn't want to get banned.
On a related note, this can also be used to install apps that are not in the market but are available online, such as betas hosted online, custom apps, etc. If you're rooted, you should have "install non-market apps" checked, but if it's not it will take you to the screen where you check it during this process.
I am 98% sure this doesn't require root access. The file manager I know doesn't, and on the Hero (since we have not been neutered like ATT phones) we can install apps from outside sources. So that option is freely available.
What here requries root access?
Not giving you heck, just trying to make the post more informational.

If you install it in /system/app/
it shouldn't be visible in 3rd party uninstallers.
If you use Settings->Applications->Manage it's still visible.
how to hide it in "If you use Settings->Applications->Manage " ?
any trick ?

Regardless of what you intended on producing...I don't understand why NOBODY has actually given you a proper answer.
I think you asked a critically smart question...as I am a new member...I joined this forum ONLY because I was looking for the answer to this question.
I am not a developer (even though I would love to learn)... but I need to know how to discreetly add apps.
The Story:
I have installed a spy app on another phone of mine. (SmsBox)
I need to hide that software completley from the list of apps AND from the "Manage Applications" list in the settings.
I want it to run in the background constantly and do what it already does.
IF someone has a solution for me...(or gets an idea on producing a new app with this feature)...please let me know.
(Since I don't know how often I will be visiting this site...Please email me at : [email protected]
Thanks!
I found this thread also looking for some way to hide (maybe disguise and lock) locator apps.
I think it would be really useful to hide anti thieves apps. They're almost useless if anybody can just take a look at the apps list and throw em away.
I've been looking for an app with that feature (among others) with no luck (Watchdroid the closest, but can be removed along its disguise and password protection).
So... any advice?
Thanks
You could write a text-mode application and just compile as a bare executable (not an apk). Just add that to your startup script (does android use init.d?), and it will be invisible to most people. You'll need root, most likely. (might be able to push over adb, then run via shell. Not sure what the permissions are on some things).

[Q] Is there any way to remove deleted paid apps from the market download list?

Hello,
I recently did some house (phone) cleaning and dumped a few no longer used apps I had purchased form the market.
I see that while they are no longer installed on the phone, they continue to stay listed in the market download section listed as purchased. Is this normal or is something wrong with the way my phone is working?
If this is normal, is there any way to remove them or at least shift them all to the bottom of the list?
Thanks,
Scott
Using a rooted Droid2 deodexed running the latest 2.3.2
BTW - I've checked the other threads I found on this but never saw a clear answer. Besides, they were old (2009) unless I missed a more resent one.
bump bump bump
I believe its not possible.
this is perfectly normal and actually allows you to reinstall them at any time since well, you paid for them.
There is no way to remove them also from that list, you could ask google support about this they'll be your best bet.
I don't really see a use for this however, if you don't want them installed, then don't.
I am pretty sure I have seen such option in some tool. Unfortunately cannot remember. I will post of I find it

ehh some apps you may not want others to know you have...
when they show up in paid apps it kind of defeats the purpose because they show up there...
You can ask the developer to refund your purchase...

[HOW-TO] Add your City in MIUI Weather App

Hello everybody,
when I searched the web for a tutorial how to add a city to MIUI-Weather app and found nothing yet, I started to try to add my own city to the database of MIUI. I was succesful and I thought that it would be a good idea to write a tutorial how to add your own city to the db.
You need the following:
root
SQLite Database Browser: sourceforge.net/projects/sqlitebrowser/
OR Root Explorer && SQlite Editor (thanks to Fisher_9511)
I'm not responsible if you damage your phone, brick it or it does not start anymore. You're the one who's responsible for your device. You should know what you do
I explain the process on the database of Europe and Germany, because there's nothing added for Germany.
First thing to do is to download the database of your desired location. Save it somewhere where you find it again. Now start "SQLite Database Browser" and open the database. It should now look like thid (Attached Image 1). Switch to the tab "Browse Data" and select "hotcity" as the table (Attached Image 2).
Now search for the abbreviation of your country, in my case it's "DE" for "Deutschland" (Germany). Remember the abbreviation and the posID of your country. So in my case I need "DE" and "110000001"
Now head over to weather.com and search for your city, where you live in. In my case I search for "Cloppenburg, Germany". Now you should have an url like this: "weather.com/weather/today/GMXX0017:1:GM". The part which is necessary is "GMXX0017", the GM stands for Germany, the XX is a placeholder I think and 0017 is the ID we need.
Now we have the posID of our country and the ID of our city. Now we have to sum the posID and the ID of our city. In my case it's "110000001" + "0017" which ends up in "110000018". This is the posID for our city.
Now we switch back again to our SQLite Database Browser and select "city" as our table (Attached Image 3). Now we have to go to the last page (Attached Image 7) and look for the last ID used in the database. In my case it's "16619" (Attached Image 4), so the next ID is "16620".
Now we create a new record and insert all our information we have, this happens when you double click the specific field of the new added empty line.
This should look like this (Attached Image 5).
When you entered every information it should look like this (Attached Image 6). Save your database and push it back to your device.
Code:
adb push miui_city_entire_eu.db /data/data/com.miui.weather/databases/miui_city.db
Now you should be able to select your city in the weather app and use the app effeicient.
(I hope it was the right forum )
I don't know Vietnam Post ID so MIUI weather fail to update.
LOL!
Well, to be honest, this is not the full part of the issue, there is more backend to this app which you have no clue about.
Good luck with your inaccurate ramblings about the id's.
We actually made those up and make it correspond to our backend system for picking up data.
Therefore if the PosID is not in our backend the app wont work anyway! So, everything you've said is a load of crap
If the PosID was to conform we'd have to add them to the backend system and also in addition to this in order of the last valid posIDs not your own.
Could an admin please close this thread down! it's heading no where without the MIUI-DEV backend anyway so its pointless chatter.
Damn thank god for the polite dev's. Why not explain this to him nice instead of being an ass ?
Why are you so rude with this guy, mobiusdigital?? he is just trying to make that app a little better, for those who desire more of it!! It's not neccesary for you to be such an indecent person, not even if you were the master developer for that app...
I think you should appologize "Technolover"... Beeing a "professional" dev. (as I think you are), also demands to be more polite... there are other ways to say the things you just wrote... or is that everyone in your country are that rude?? Gosh!!
I was going to install this app, but after the absolutely putrid attitude of the dev above, I will not. Sorry, pal.
Followed all instructions to the letter, but the MIUI weather app won't open, well I hope that MIUI Devs will add some functionnality to MIUI Weather to add our own cities, or something similar.

Sorry, but this works only for posID's which are in the "hotcity" table. I don't know the real backend of the app but I think that the posID's of the countries are just there to change them to the letters which wetter.com uses (e.g.: GMXX0017 for Cloppenburg).

Sorry, but Asia isn't in the hotcity table, so it's not possible to get it working, except you know the posID from the Backend of the App but I don't think so =/
You have to wait for an update from MiUI-Weather

Oh look, its the clown who thinks he owns miui. He wanted to sell the weather widget because he done a few dirty hacks. Also he was considering to sell some language packs. Myself and others co confronted him and our posts got deleted and I got banned.
You should see his attitude in miui-dev

Free Remote Android Support App

Zikk is unique mobile to mobile remote support app.
So what's so special about Zikk?
It is designed for consumers and not for IT depatments and operators,
therefore it is extremely simple and user friendly.
It provides full privacy protection - no screen sharing, and no access to SMS, email, etc.
It doesn't require constant internet access, and doesn't prevent the recipient from using his
phone for other purposes during the process.
It supports all Android devices (2.2 and above).
In addition to remote support, Zikk contains a local settings menu which uses Zikk's simple
and friendly interface.
When people have a hard time setting up their smartphones, they ask help from their friends
and family - Zikk enables users to help each other.
APK attached. Also available on Google-Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zikk.alpha)
where you will also find a short and helpful demo video. You van also find the video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsP9-Lpfwpk).
So both people need Zikk installed, I presume? Does the person you are helping get prompted to download it?

Correct. If the selected contact does not have the app, the user will be asked to allow sending
an automatic SMS with a link to the download page. There is also a share option where you can
send this message (via SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook, etc.) to one or more people.

This really does sound great; however, does it support wifi-only tablets? Is the phone number just to receive verification code? If so, will any mobile phone number work?

The current version is designed for Android phones does not support WiFi-only tablets or
large screen tablets, however in a few weeks I will publish the tablet version, which will
include UI adjustments, tablet related features and a different registration process.
Sounds AMAZING! I'd really like to use this to help my friends and family. I live in India though
No worries, I'll wait
fantastic idea!!! this will surely take off!! kudos to the OP!!
how far this app will go ? I mean can I help someone from anywhere ?
What about phone types? What if my phone is a Nexus and the other device is a HTC?

Nicely done though. Props.

Thanks, updated - since I'm a new member I can't post links so
I posted the app's package name and the title of the demo video
on YouTube. I will replace it with actual links as soon as I can.
Cool

Cool, like the concept of it. But really wish it could do the updates of apps. And PRL updated. The many things my mother and sister never do.

Great ideas for the next version - thank you very much!
I like the app a lot, but what make it one of the best is if I could move, install, & uninstall system apps, and a root file manager so that we can help rooted users also
uninstalled this app from my Galaxy Note i717 and now the home screen is gone and I cant get back into recovery?
oh cool its like remote assistance for android!

Actually a version for rooted users is an interesting idea. Not sure how common "less tech savvy"
rooted users are though. If you have more ideas for features for rooted users I would love to hear them.
I actually have a friend who is just getting into root use who calls for advice when he needs it. Let's be honest we were all beginners once and maybe could have used a little hand. He moved recently so there is distance involved now. This looks like a great idea.
I would love to have access to the settings menus, root file explorer and perhaps apps he already has installed such as set CPU or apps of that nature.
Beginners in root use are just as confused by root abilities as beginners in android are of it's stock features at times.
It would be really great to be able to start a log cat app and have your friend do something that normally causes a crash for example if they are not advanced enough to run one themselves. A current issue I have on hand. Trying to explain how to run one and sending videos to watch.
Hope this keeps going
