[Q] 64gb SD micro sdxc not working - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, can someone please help. I have put a 64gb micro SD sdxc into my galaxy note pro 12.2, but unfortunately when I try to write to the card when inserted in the tablet, it craps out when I get to around 10gb of transfered data every time. The card works perfectly on a galaxy note 10.1 and when used on a PC. I read on the net that the card being in a sdxc format might be the problem, so I formated the card in to fat32 format. But when I put it back in to the tablet it says damaged SD card and says to reformat it. As I say the card works perfectly on other devices. I also have a 32gb sdhc micro SD card and that works perfectly in the galaxy note pro 12.2. I have returned the tablet thinking it was a fault with the tablet but I have exactly the same problem with the new one. It's really starting to p!ss me off especially after I found how they have restricted SD micro access in android 4.4.
Does anyone know of a fix for this as a 32gb card is nowhere big enough for me. I love the tablet but this issue is making me not want it anymore.
Thanks in advance for any help.
P.s. I wish to insert a 128gb card (as I have read they work) but don't want to buy one if the table won't read sdxc

I'm using two 64GB Sandisc MicroSDXC's interchangably with my 128GB Sandisc one on my P905, but I've never encountered such an issue.
All three are formatted as ExFAT, as FAT32 has a <4GB filesize limitation. Which is useless when it comes to 1080p films.
How are you trying to write to it? How do you eject it? This is the first Android device I have encountered that behaves like a Mac when it comes to external storage, if you don't unmount the card before disconnecting it, it starts doing all kinds of crazy sh*t. Damaged errors, mysteriously vanishing data...
Did you try formatting it inside the tablet through Android's own menu? It really doesn't like partitions formatted on Windows.

Have tried everything.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I've tried writing to it via drag and drop and via Samsung kies many times with the same result. Have always ejected the card via the unmount option in device settings. I have also tried formating it on my note pro and via many different formating programs on pc in both fat and exfat, but again none of it has sorted the problem.
It really seems to be a problem with the memory card its self but it works fine as storage when not in the device, and works fine in my old note 10.1 formatted to exfat.
It's a really strange issue and incredibly annoying.
Thanks again.

My wife has one of these and she purchased a 64gb Samsung micro that she will get next week (orange card).
I know this worked on my S5 back in the kitkat days https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
It's worth a try. Let us know if it worked buddy.

Unfortunately you need to root your device to be able to use the suggested app, but was worth a try.
Thanks.
Surely I can't be the only one to have this problem as it's the same on my returned note pro and the replacement. Time to harass Samsung a little I think.

Sorry, didn't think that was a rooted app, hard to keep track sometimes lol.
I'll let you know if the Samsung card has better compatibility with the device. Seems to work for in most part. It's only in transferring large amounts of data at once, right?
I had a bad Sandisk card that I had to RMA a while back. So in this case it was the card and not the device (S5 at&t rooted kk 4.4.2 at the time).
The card was a 64 GB microSDXC XC 1 class 10 variety. At about half way full I couldn't delete files from the card. It was able to read (for backup of pics and videos) but acted like it was frozen in time lol. The card has a lifetime warranty and Sandisk paid for shipping both ways. It took about 10 days for turnaround though, not great, but the new card has worked well so far.
There was a bad batch of cards made in early 2013 and this was a card carried over from an S4. I tried so many things via a PC and just finally gave up and Sandisk was quite understanding. I did have to send the old card back and asked if I could cut the card cause I couldn't delete my data and they agreed as long as they could read what type of card it was. I ended up just sending it back intact cause it was mostly family pics and vids and nothing sketchy.
I'll let you know once she gets it and put it through the paces.

Hm.... And when you copy paste it in groups of a few GB at a time? It might just be an MTP problem, that protocol is a nightmare.

Yeah I've tried large transfers at a time and individual file transfers, even as small as 1 mp3 file at a time, but always the same outcome. I have the same Sandisk ultra 64gb micro sdxc in my galaxy S5 phone and that card works perfectly in that device. Unfortunately I can't remove that card to try it in the note pro as when I do all the game and app data I've transfered to it loses its link to the system files for the data and I have to reinstall it all again, which is a real pain in the arse when you've downloaded them over time and stupidly not kept track or copies of where they have come from. Lol.
Do you mind if I quickly go off topic and ask a question about the Samsung keyboard on the note pro. You seem to know what your talking about. Say I want to delete part of text like a url etc, when I delete it and start to type in different text the Samsung keyboard replaces the text I had just deleted so I end up having to delete it twice. It's not a huge problem but bloody annoying. Do you happen to know how to stop it doing that?
Thanks again.

Very strange. It shouldn't be doing that. (No seriously. My 128GB MicroSD has 30MB free space. The rest is films, series, magazines, comics and music.)
Does it also happen when you transfer files internally to the MicroSD? Or just over USB?
What I do notice is that there seems to be some sort of timelimit to the MTP protocol. If it's attached for longer than around 5 minutes, be it in transfer or not, it starts lagging or even just randomly disconnecting. My Note 3 and S5 don't do that, but their USB system is different.
Ohhh, very familiar. I made that mistake once, good grief that took ages to fix.

I don't mind. Going off topic is a speciality of mine.
You should be able to turn that off under Settings > Controls > Samsung Keyboard (The gear icon behind it) > turn off Auto Replacement. (I know it says on pressing space, it's lying.)
Although it might be worth looking into Hacker's Keyboard or Swiftkey. (Both are free) I much prefer Hacker's Keyboard as it acts like a proper keyboard.

"You should be able to turn that off under Settings > Controls > Samsung Keyboard (The gear icon behind it) > turn off Auto Replacement. (I know it says on pressing space, it's lying.)"
That's great thanks, your a diamond. xxx .
Haven't tried hacker's keyboard before, will have to try that one.
"Does it also happen when you transfer files internally to the MicroSD? Or just over USB?"
As far as I was aware android 4.4 stopped allowing writing to micro sd from devices internal memory. (it seems a lot of hassle considering samsung advertise that the note pro will work with 64gb sdxc cards) And i haven't rooted my note pro yet as if i can't get larger than 32gb cards to work on it i may well take it back for a refund

Hm, it still works on mine. I'm on P905XXUANC3/XXUANA7/DBTANC3. (The newer update breaks it, I believe.) 5.0 brings MicroSD control back though; but I have no schedule on its release yet.
I can't rename anything though, that won't work.

Just to let you know, it turns out it was a memory card problem. I took the risk and bought a 128GB card and it is working. It seems to be some weird of incompatibility issue as the original card works in everything else i've tried it in.
Unfortunately i'm having another strange problem with the memory card. I have come across the problem before but have never worked it out. The problem is, i copied over a 1.8gb file from internal memory over to memory card but the card capacity went down by 2.9gb. I checked the size of the file i copied to memory card when it was on the memory card and the file is definitely only 1.8gb. So wtf has happened to the other 1.1gb. lol.
The actual useable total memory on the card is 119gb, and when i checked the size of everything i've put on the card it comes to 109gb, but the system on my note pro is saying i have 7.1gb left when there should be roughly 10gb left. So i'm missing 3gb in total somewhere. Does anyone have any ideas how to retrieve the missing storage space?

MicroSD HC: Did your files disappear?

It happened to me 3 times in 3 days. The entire contents disappeared with no reason. I have never experienced this issue, but it is getting me out of my nerves.
My SD card is a Sandisk 8 GB SDHC.
I have scanned the card using a card reader and it seems that all the files are there, but they're unlinked. The space is used, but the files are not accesible, so when I go to Storage Card, I find it empty.
It's TOTALLY annoying. Please, give your experience if you have this problem.
Have you lost all your MicroSD card contents and you don't know why?
My Sandisk 8gb card came with a USB2 card reader that is great speed-wise; but twice I lost all the data when using it. I didn't realize it might be related at the time, but then I misplaced the reader and switched to using the adapter kind -- the SD sized thing that you slip the microSD card into (my laptop has a SD card slot). It's been a few months now, and with constant switching of the card between my Touch, Touch Cruise and laptop, I've not lost the data since.
While I can't say for sure it's related, it hasn't happened since I stopped using the USB adapter that shipped with the card.
I think it's not related to the use of the adapter since the first time I lost my files I was on a route using Tomtom 7. In my way back, I had to go without the navigator :S No maps, and the videos and pictures that I took, totally lost.
Fortunately I have an application that is pure gold to recover every disaster that could happen (recovers partitions even after formatting the disk, and files with their original names). It's not pleasant for me to use this application ("[email protected] Partition Recovery Enterprise"), but this is becoming too usual...
By the way I'm using udK's WM6.1 ROM R6, even though I don't think it's related to it.
My MicroSD is formatted in FAT32 with 32KB clusters.
Any ideas about how to fix this problem?
The last time I lost the contents I was about to sync music with WMP (with the USB connected).
Good luck... I'm using the ROM that shipped with the device. Guess the only way to know if it's related to a cooked-ROM is to re-install the official ROM and see how things go.
I'm using HTC original ROM and 8Gb Sandisk card with no problem for more than 3 months. My fingers are crossed
I'm using HTC original ROM and 8Gb Sandisk card with some issues (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407046&highlight=bodisson), but no files are missing.
Sometimes I get extra file names with really weird characters. Usually, if I reinsert the card, these go away and I can access normally the card.

that happened to me twice..my problem was solved by installing an sd enhancement cab file. almost everything appeared back in my sd.
i have an HTC touch cruise. here is a link for the cab file..try it if you want, maybe you ll solve your problem

did you use something like sktools for change pathes of temp/cookes files of I.E or so on?
If yes it could following happend:
You change the destination path for some application like InternetExplorers Temp and Cookies pathes to point to Storage Card.
After this you removed the card on any time.
The device cannot find the path to the Storage Card and creates a folder "Storage Card" on the root of the internal device memory.
If you insert a card again, it show you onliy the content of the new folder.

Dudes,
I'm bought a sandisk 8gb micro SDHC about a month ago.
Filled it almost to the brim with music and podcasts.
I regularly uses great programs like S2P and BeyondPod for music and podcasts to listen with my Bluetooth A2DP headset.
Had no problem until recently where the entire card is not readable anymore
Symptoms:
1) the phone started not to recognise the SDHC, where it could not detect any inserted card
2) the failures on the SDHC gave me corrupted files. I was able to repaired these by using the Windows XP chkdsk and fix error command
3) by the 3rd time i did this, the card was not readable at all
Suspects:
1) every time polaris hang, i would press the reset button. I suspect tat this would corrupt some files (possibly even the entire SDHC ??)
2) every time polaris hang, i think the phone was running more than 1 app at the same time. In my case, it was probably S2U2 and S2P or BeyondPod, together with BT A2DP.
Don't think it was caused by these great apps, but rather the way Polaris or WindowsPPC handles multi tasking
Will be returning the 8gb SDHC soon for a replacement.
Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again ?
(other than not running multiple apps at the same time)
Thx
BTW, i'm running windows 6.0, the original HTC polaris rom
Also have a Scandisk 8gb card in my Polaris...
Problems im suffering is that now and then the storage card looses connection.... I can not see it on my mobile and also its not showing up using ActiveSync.
It happens really often and mostly when im using software that depends on it like IGO. The application crashes because it can not access the files needed.
Ive read somewhere that this only happens with scandisk cards so im considering buying a kingston card.. can anyone verify this??
Well the best thing is to make sure, you safely remove your hardware before removing the sd card from the pc or otherwise change the device settings of the memory card to "optimize for quick removal" in the device manager
I recently switched from a non-sdhc card (1 GB) to a SDHC 4GB kingston.
weirdest of all things is that i lose certain applications, but not all!
For instance i have TomTOm installed. Stopped functioning and lost the icon. But SK Tools still works. :S
I'm not very happy with this, since i use my phone ALOT with TomTom and all the other apps i installed on it. Especially at work.
Gonna try the artemis sd fix... Hope it works.
Could it be that you'd made a rom-upgrade with the sd-card in the phone? I had the same problem - lost files on sd-card - with the original 1GB-Card and a new 4-GB-SDHC. I think (and hope) that leaving the card while upgrading has reasoned this issue. After reformating the card in the pda the problem has gone for me . Thank you for your answers...

Yes, i actually did leave the card while upgrading. But i didn't lose any data until a few days AFTER the upgrade. And i frequently soft-reset the device.
I solved my problem (i think) by deleting 'program files' on the storage card and making a new 'program files' folder. It works for a few day now. (keeps fingers crossed)
I did a ROM upgrade (udK Diamond R7) without the microSDHC card, and yesterday night I lost all my files for the nth time.
The space remains used. I was listening to a podcast (that was stored into the card), and suddenly, when I ran the File Explorer to do something, all the files were missing. The podcast played correctly, but when I tried to re-open it, the file could not be found.
I'm feed up with this problem. It is like having no card at all...
Please, we need somebody to fix it. Is it happening to other brands of only Sandisk?
Thanks.
I simply turned my phone off. Then back on again and storage card had turned into storage card 2. Everything I had on the card was lost. So I carried on using the card and now its storage card 3 and the data from when it was called card 2 is now lost.
copilot often asks me to insert map data.
Ive found that if I remove the card and close all programs before I turn the phone off I dont lose data.
O2 told me to send it in for replacement. That was months ago. Not had chance yet. Might be too late!?
udk's r7 must be faulty, i lost my destinator files 2 times and dawg i didnt took a backup for quite some time. no favorites for me now :<

Do you mean that the problem might be the cooked ROM? Maybe we can isolate the problem with this approach.

Corrupt SD Card issues

Is anyone else having issues with their sd card corrupting? I have an 8gb class 6 transcend card and it has corrupted 3 times in the last month. I always unmount the card in windows before unplugging the phone. It seems to do it when I'm writing to the sd card from the phone.
The first time I noticed it was when I deleted a picture with built in photos app.
The next time was today when I made a nandroid backup before applying an update (theme). The nandroid backup finished and when I went to apply the update it came up with an error (I didn't reboot between the backup and applying the update). I reset the phone and the sd card was unavailable.
At one point I did have the card partitioned with the apps on one partition. When it corrupted I reflashed the phone back to 1.42 and left the apps on the phone. I went back to one partition and left it at that (fat32).
I don't know if I just have a bad card or something else is going on. I never had any problems with 1.41. However because it did it while doing a nandroid backup would that rule out the software version?
I would like to find a solution, as I don't trust the card anymore without backing it up frequently.
i've had it happen once (files names corrupted) but assumed it was down to the card as i had the same happen when it was in my N95, i've now bought a new card and i'll see how it goes.
When mine goes down, it seems like it kills the partition. When I open a disk manager I don't see a partition on the card anymore.
Hey axion,
Yea your card is pretty much dead... this also happened to me yesterday on my 4 gig card... yyour card will still work however reformatting or creating anymore partitions won't help bring it back.. for future update.zips or recovery boots upload your update files to your stock 1 gig card.. remember to always safely remove hardware with any card mounted to the to a computer..
YES - and not only have I had the same problems, it's with the same brand card! Transcend 4 GB Class 6.
My phone started having issues where I installed an application and it would act wonky, then if I tried to reboot it'd lock up into an infinite loop.
The last couple of times, I solved the loop by doing a fsck on the partition in GParted (booted into a GParted Live instance from a laptop using a USB stick). The problem reoccurs though, making me think there's something problematic with the card.
There's an app in the thread on the cheap 8 GB cards (of which I'm holding my recently received shipment . There's an app in that thread used to test write performance, but it does some crude error checking, and I had an issue when I did that test.
I'm going to do a partition clone and report back.
my dodgy card was 4GB Kingston, one interesting problem i had with it was video refused to play, i could read and write the file fine but android would refuse to play it and meridian video player would report the wrong pixel size, time and codec which had me confused all last weekend.
I'm also frequently having problems with my 8gb card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211341). Every few days I find myself firing up Ubuntu to fsck it and I always find errors. I often discover them when looking for a file on the phone (I usually do a find / | grep whatever and notice that I get "stale file handle" errors).
Should I get a newer/better card? I'm happy to pay more for a better one. I didn't know this brand, but it was the only class 6 I could find. If Sandisk made a faster card I'd get that, but I can only find a class 2. I have a 16gb Sandisk but it is only class 2 and therefore not good for apps, which is what I'm using the sdcard for.
If anyone can recommend a better one, I'll give it a try.
Does a 16gb class 8 exist yet? What about a 16gb class 6?
I just moved to the same card you have, mlevin - so I'll post back my experiences if I'm seeing anything.
I'm wondering if maybe moving the caches to SD isn't the greatest idea, since these devices aren't meant for continuous writes. If I have more issues, I might just move the caches back to the onboard memory.

Yeah, that worried me as well, so I moved my caches back to the main storage and only have app, app-private and data symlinked to the card.
If you are having problems after moving apps and data to your ext2 partition, you have to push the original init.rc and mountd.conf back onto the phone so you can wipe to card fully and restore it to the FAT32 file system.
I had a similar problem on my tmobile wing (variant of the Atlas which is a modified version of the Herald) running Windows Mobile 6 and Windows Mobile 6.1. I think it was also when I used the SD card as a place to store cache for PocketIE. Maybe that's the issue, using it as cache storage. (This is my theory, not something that has been confirmed.)
g1 sd card deletes itself
I am on my 4th sd card. I am not sure what is corrupting/deleting my data. I can copy over some music/video/pdfs/wtfevers and it'll stick around for awhile. Then BAM, music folder empty(had 1 gig of music in it). BAM, 1 of 3 video files corrupted. OH wait, now all 3 are gone. awesome. I keep a backup on my pc so I can copy it all back over once it goes south. I have the doodledroid drawing app on my phone and the folder will go corrupt - not allowing me to save an image until I delete the folder so it can reinitialize(create a non-f'ed up folder). Also, my picture thumbnails get f'ed so I have to delete that folder so the G1 can remake a new non-corrupted set. My PDFs disappeared about 3 days ago. Cards all formatted fat32. blah.
Frustrating.
I have root
kila-user 1.1 PLAT-RC33
Anyone else find a solution?
BTW, my sd cards were:
sandisk 2gb
sandisk 2gb
PNY 4gb (current)
Lexar 4gb

If Sandisk made a faster card I'd get that, but I can only find a class 2. I have a 16gb Sandisk but it is only class 2 and therefore not good for apps, which is what I'm using the sdcard for.
If anyone can recommend a better one, I'll give it a try.
Does a 16gb class 8 exist yet? What about a 16gb class 6?

mlevin: I have that card. It's been fine...until I believe the other day. I was running 5.01H w/ apps to sd and my battery had died so I charged it. Upon turning it on the android screen kept looping as though it wasn't mounting the card. Worse came to worse and I had to end up reformatting the card and starting from square 1. Now that I reformatted it, I'm getting "insufficent space" errors when trying to install paid apps even though I did everything right.
I'm wondering if it is the card.....

[Q]: Applications not loading from Storage Card

All of a sudden apps on storage card fail to load.
After a few reboots they reappear at random, but disappear again on reset.
Did not have that problem with stock, but after flashing Infused 1.14 (and on) the issue appears even with the (rooted) stock rom.
Any ideas?
I am trying to determine if I need to return and replace the phone before I lose the option.
Thank you in advance.
Answering the question by myself, in case others encounter the same issue.
The external card had something corrupted, and when the system was mounting it, all mess ensued.
Backed up all the data and reformatted.
System appears ok for now
I just had this same problem or at least something very similar to it. Initially I thought it was the 32GB SD card being too big since I read Android had a 16GB external card limit. But those posts were from a year ago and when I searched deeper I read that 32GB cards were being use without size problems now. There was one issue that seemed to affect some people and that was that android could have problems formatting a card that big and that's how I installed it in my Infuse initially- I let the Infuse format it, then popped in in my Macbook Pro (in OSX) to copy over the contents from the previous 8G card. I believe I have hidden files set to show, so I should be copying over everything- though, could this method of upgrading the card be a problem too?
It worked for a couple days, but last night during a reboot I tried to access the app tray and didn't know the card was still being scanned. It froze and I couldn't get past the secondary media scan after many tries. I didn't realize that apps were being automatically installed to the card.
Anyway, I was gonna return the card, but after reading your post, I'm thinking again about corruption due to poor formatting as the problem, so I'll try it again when I get home. Thanks for your post. I really want to be able to use this larger card so I'm keeping my fingers crossed this will solve the problem.
BTW, how did you format the card? I have Win7 x64Pro on my MBP as well if I need to use windows, but did you use FAT, FAT32, ExFat? I'm still a 'droid noob ;P. Thanks again!

[Q] MicroSD suddenly invisible to phone and PC?

So today after a reboot, my Skyrocket no longer reads the 32gb Sandisk MicroSD I've been using in it for a year now. The card has worked flawlessly and now it's unrecognizable. So, I figured, whatever, cards die, right? I took it out of the phone and stuck it into the PC adapter (which is tested to work, based on other cards I have) and NOTHING. According to every resource on Windows 7 and XP, no external media is present at all.
What. The. Hell.
Anyone have this problem or have a fix? All my photos and lots of stuff for work is just gone, forever, somehow. Please help.
Jon
Sounds dead. I would carefully polish the gold contacts a bit with a soft abradant, like an ink eraser. Avoid static discharge. Remove any debris and retry detection in a known good card reader. Also retest your 2 card readers' MicroSD slots with a working card.
Agreed - it sounds dead. If you have data on it, have you tried recovering the data on it using the SanDisk tools?
Google "recover flash sd card sandisk" - sorry I can't paste a direct link yet (not enough permissions on XDA yet)
SanDisk will probably replace it for you under warranty.

[Q] Anyone else having issues with corrupted microsd cards?

I've tried 2 different Sandisk Ultra 64GB microsd's...the first I formatted inside the phone.....the 2nd I took straight out of the packaging and put into the phone..in both cases after a random amount of time I found the microsd corrupted. In the most recent case I tried putting some books onto the card via adb push only to have it inform me that the sdcard was a "read only filesystem"....I then went into es file explorer and tried to browse the card...the "Android" folder was still readable but all other folders now appeared to be some type of file because when I clicked on them it popped up a panel asking me to tell it what sort of file it was....text, video...etc.....after rebooting the phone it would not even mount the sdcard.....I've taken it out and put it on my laptop to run an fsck (linux version of chkdsk) on it and it's finding all sorts of issues:
/Android/data/com.sand.airdroid/********.***

As much as I have loved the phone if it's going to continuously lose data I'm going to have to send it back. The first microsd came out of my old phone and had worked fine in it....to avoid issues I let the phone format it....sandisk is THE name when it come to sd cards in my opinion so I have a hard time believing it's any sort of quality control issue...especially since I tried two different cards...the 2nd one being brand new out of the packaging. Comments appreciated.
I am using a Samsung microSDXC 64GB card.
I formatted it on my PC before using it.
So far, I haven't had any problems.
Loaded pictures, ringtones and a number of apk's to install.
Format the SD card on your pc and format to fat32 instead of exfat. Use the instructions from this link.

While I'm willing to try it I would think formatting it on the PHONE would ensure it was in the format it needs to be.....however linux by default uses the fat32 (or fat 16/fat12 depending on size of media) filesystem when fat is chosen. It doesn't have support for exfat. I'm going to try picking up a cheap 32gb from PNY or some other manufacturer than sandisk and see how it behaves.
Thanks for the replies!
I have a new SanDisk 64gb Ultra that's been working fine for the past week. Straight out of the package into the phone (and then formatted).

Do you ever use adb to push files to the phone? It seems whenever the corruption is noticed I have either just put some file on...am in the process of putting files on or just put some on recently via adb push <filename> /storage/sdcard1/<folder> If not what most common method do you use to get files from your pc to your phone storage?

I just plug it in , and Windows 7 mounts it as Portable Media Player - and from that point on, just copy to, or delete from, the folders. Works for both internal storage, and the micro SD. So far no issues. I have a cheap and slow 32 GB card .
Sandisk 32GB class 10 user here with no issues. I did have some issues when I connected my phone to the computer through a non-OEM USB cord though...

Same here, a Scan Disk Extreme SDXC 64GB UHS-I/U3 right out of the package and into the phone. No problem storing media or apps to it here thus far.

My experience was great until last night. I don't know what happened but I downloaded a new app (Cloud Player by doubleTwist) and as it's nearing the end of reading the music on my SD card (a SanDisk Ultra microSDXC 64 GB), it suddenly stops recognizing the files to the point where the phone was no longer reading the SD card at all. I've tried remounting the SD card but to no avail (even after a factory reset). Interestingly enough, I /was/ able to mount it on my old phone (Note 3) and it worked without a hitch, the card wasn't formatted or anything of the sort and the data was perfectly intact. I tried mounting another SD card I had lying around on the Idol 3 and it worked just fine too. So, what the heck? I sent an email to doubleTwist considering that the evidence points towards the problem being a combination of the phone and the app but I'm at a loss here 'cause I don't see how I'm gonna get the Idol 3 to mount my SD card, even if the app is fixed. Maybe get a replacement from Amazon? I'd prefer to avoid that seeing as how my model hasn't been plagued by the issues detailed on this forum (aside from the buggy Tap to Wake function that is).

Yeah I noticed the corruption only seemed to occur when pushing files to the phone via adb. I'm on linux so it doesn't just mount as an mtp device...I've gone to using other methods to transfer files such as airdroid etc and so far the issue has not occurred again.,
Samsung EVO 64GB corrupted
I had a Samsung Evo 64gb for two weeks everything was fine then one day it changed to a RAW format and I couldn't use it. I have tried everything and don't know what to do.
Hi,
Im having some similar issues with my Idol 3 and the SD cards. First I have a 32gb card that was corrupting all new files stored in it... I formated with the phone, and still the problem continues. So I bought a new 128gb (a PNY) on amazon, making sure specs were compatible, and now it keeps unmounting the SD card couple of minutes after reboot or installed.
So far I have tried:
Format the MicroSD in the phone
Format the microsd in the computer (with partition formats Fat32, ext2, ext4)
make the microsd card with several smaller partitions, down even to 32Gb.
restore phone settings.
factory restore the phone.
Test the MicroSD card in several devices (all worked fine).
Even went to cricket wireless and tried the Micro SD card in another alcatel Idol 3 (worked fine there).
So far, nothing seems to make the idol keep the MicroSD working. It just says "SD card unexpectedly removed".
Any suggestions? Could it be the SD card or the Idol 3?
Thanks.

Sadly the answer is "yes"....cause it's more a combination of the two.....I have a samsung 128gb in my idol3 and it runs fine...a 64gb adata also ran fine....a 64gb sandisk repeatedly failed as yours does...and now has failed on a 2nd device so that card is physically bad in some way. You'll basically have to find one the idol3 likes...when in doubt use the brands others have indicated worked for them...I don't recall PNY being listed by someone as "worked for months without issue". I can vouch for Adata and Samsung. An important point to consider is it MIGHT work initially on that idol3 in the store...but more importantly would it still be working 1 month later.....6 months later...etc
I have a 64gb Samsung that corrupted last week after working fine for 4 months. It happened while writing to the SD card. Wife was talking and all of a sudden it stopped saving the pics. Couldn't get anything to read the card so I ended up formatting it in my backup phone. This likely was due to the camera app but thought I'd post just to add my experience
I have a 16gb sandisk from way back in 2012 yet still works lol but I was rinning into some issues this past weekend it kept telling me checking sd card for errors then it would mount and unmount so I rebooted same problem so what idid was to take the SD card out plug it into my PC backup my data even though the data was intact so I backed everything put the card back in turn the phone on and my data was still there I'm not sure if its something related to your issue but right now my SD card is working normally I love it lol
I've got a Scandisk sdxc 64gb since several months in mine and no problem till now.
