[Q] change wifi tether password (not using settings app) - General Questions and Answers

Hello everyone
I am trying to make a tasker profile to change my phone's (KitKat) wifi tether password
I found the password stored in /data/misc/hostapd.conf but changing it there does not change the password in the settings
I can set up a task to manually change it by using virtual taps etc, but i would prefer a programmatic or config solution
Here is the main question:
How to change the wifi tether password without using the settings app?

I'm not sure but I think that's not possible.

[Q] Wifi autoproxy

ok, i've been looking for an app for a while now, and have not found anything thats close to what i need.
my business has two wifi networks.
one for employees and one for customers.
the problem is, when i need to test something on the customer wifi, (and any others) is that the proxy settings are a global setting, not a wifi specific setting.
is there an app that changes that for you when it picks up a different network?
(say, swaps the proxy settings to nothing when a specific saved network is found, and changes it to defined settings when another saved one is connected to)
would be amazing if there was, and it did not need root access.
in ICS(Android 4.0) you can set proxy for each wifi network
Use proxydroid (free) from Google Play Store... You can create profiles for each wi-fi network and bind these profiles to the wi-fi network so it starts automatically when you are connected to the wi-fi network. You need to be rooted for proxydroid to work.

still sets a global proxy, just makes it look like its wifi-specific.
Try Autoproxy, the name says it all. Also on the market.

before you connect to your wifi, where it asks you for passphrase, just tick the "advance" option, then tab on dhcp, then select static, here is where you specify your dns.
Longpress the network in the settings menu, select modify and click advanced. Set it to static and there you go, manually settings.

Android firewall with different setting for different WIFI

Hi, I use normal home wifi, and mobile wifi with DATA PLAN when I'm out, is there an application where we can set different access restriction for each one???
That is different settings for: DATA / WIFI xxx / WIFI yyy, or just treats certain WIFI Hotspots as Mobile Data like in some new JellyBean Data restriction
Please feel free to move this thread to the appropriate section

Your question is confusing. You would use your home router settings to set restrictions and encryption keys and Android settings in the Wifi Hotspot area to set the WEP key and restrict which devices can access your phone's mobile hotspot.
Or did I miss your question?

Android Firewall from the play store will do the trick, but only for WiFi and data. There is no app that'll let u set restrictions for multiple WiFi access points, sorry

Thanx, guess I should youse this in conjunction with jelly bean data restriction, but it would have been great if it can be done from one application
