[Completed] [Q] CWM for the projector Smartphone. Firmware issue? - XDA Assist

Hi,
I recently downloaded CWM 6.0.5.0 for my SM-G3858 running Jelly Bean. The thing is that when I flashed it I got a triangle (so it doesn´t work), then after a couple of seconds android´s stock recovery boots up. So no brick, but I wonder why CWM reco does not boot up for me. It works for another user but this user has an older samsung firmware installed. So I thought that the issue could be that I have a newer Samsung Firmware, as this CWM build was compiled from an older Samsung firmware source. But as far as I know a CWM build should work even tho the firmware has slightly changed (newer fw is still 4.2.2 Jelly Bean tho). So what could be the issue? Any ideas?

Sir,
You have already pointed in the right direction here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-assist/errors-cm11-built-t3057271

[Q] Updating galaxy tab2 10.1 p5113

Forum members:
I recently user rooted my device per the forum excellent instructions but now am unable to to update the firmware for the android OS. When I get the popup notifying me that an upgrade has been downloaded, I go through the drill of rebooting to the Odin screen and then reboot but am then advised that the upgrade failed and something about using Kies. I user rooted the device in anticipation of installing Ubuntu but haven't done it yet. I intended to be able to dual boot depending on what I am working on. I use the android OS most of the time and it works ok but will not upgrade itself. I have searched the posts regarding the inability to upgrade android when the system is rooted but haven't found anything that I understand or that tells me whether or not it is even possible to upgrade the android OS when user rooted. Can anyone answer the question succinctly and if it is possible point me to instructions on how to do it. Any help is sincerely appreciated.

Hi. That's right, you can't make OTA official updates anymore if you rooted the tablet.
You can however download the new firmware version from sammobile (official non-rooted) or some custom version from XDA, then flash it with odin or mobile odin (for official), or CWM (for custom "zip").
Here's a tutorial for Galaxy Note, but it might work for your tablet too - anyway it gives you an idea of how that can be done. The written procedure is here.
going through the same issue...
I am having the same troubles as the person who started this thread. I rooted my samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 from the instructions that I found on this forum. I also installed ClockWork Mod recovery as per the rooting instructions. Now that I am hearing that I will be unable to update to jelly bean (official) because I rooted my device what can i do to work around this problem?
What if we reboot into Clock Work Mod recovery and use the option to restore device to stock firmware? If we did that option it would restore the tablet back to its factory resetting and then could we upgrade to Jelly Bean using the "software update" option?
Or is downloading a firmware from sammobile the best option?
I am really not sure about what to do next...
Hope to hear some kind of response on what to do next...
You can get JB stock from sammobile and flash it with odin. Or you can get a custom JB rom from xda and flash it with cwm. There's nothing complicated about upgrading, both ways are good. I would pick the second one, this way you stay rooted.

[Q] Note 10.1 4G N8020 messed up

Hi all. Tried my first root + custom rom installation and i messed up the device..
i had the newest KIES firmware update (phone XXBMA5) and (XXBMA6) and i rooted the device with odin (3.07). That went OK.
Then i installed the CWM recovery with odin and that was OK too.
Then i downloaded the latest Omega Rom (i missread that it supports N8020) and followed the installation instructions to the point where it started installing Omega V2.0 from SDCARD and then it asked me to select device from a list that included only (N8000,N8010,N8013)..
So the situation now is that i have working odin, working CWM and backup of the EFS (img+tar) but no working recovery. i live in Finland and the device is Sonera locked i think, so the stock roms (international) do not work i guess.
KIES has a backup of my Note but i can't even get to a point where KIES discovers the device.
So basically i think i need a working ROM for my model (Note 10.1 4G N8020), or can i recover the original samsung software somehow ?
Any advices ?

Just a thought, but can't you reflash CWM or the stock recovery?
If you didn't install the rom why do you need to re-install anything. Just powering down and powering up should have left you as was....

Maybe i'm missing something but isn't CWM your custom recovery?
It doesn't sound like you've actually installed any rom yet.The Omega installer doesn't actually install anything until a few steps after the one you mentioned about the model type.
I'm with ultramag69 on this one. You should still be on a stock rom unless you already wiped your original rom.
Hi again. Problem solved, just had to do emergency thing from KIES. Like i said this was the first time trying root + custom ro install and to be honest it went to ****. Somehow i managed to delete the stock firmware so that is why the recovery gave me (no files). I did make some backup but when tried to restore it said MD5 mismatch or something. At first the KIES emergency recovery could not find the device, but after i switched from CWMcto stock recovery it worked.
So what did i learn from all this ? Nothing, because i am getting too old (tired+lazy ) to do proper investigation. So one could say my strategy is to bang my head to the wall as long as it takes to go trough. Even if i could just go around it
So basically i am now at the point where i started, with stock 4.1.2 rooted. Used the triangle away to wipe the (6) custom installs or something away, but it still says custom in the settings> information. Does this mean that OTA won't work ? Any way around it ? Because i would like to check now and then that is my version of android the newest one..
Could someone recommend a custom ROM for my Note 10.1 4G (LTE) N8020 4.1.2 because the only one i was able to find was the CyanogenMod (or something) and it basically makes the S-Pen (almost) useless. What i would like is the Omega ROM, but like stated before the installation only supported N8000, N8010 & N8013...
Added screenshot from info.
Thanks anyway
What is truly amazing is that i did not brick the device tough..
switch from cwm to stock

I was not easy, i just tried the download mode over and over again with KIES open in windows and somehow it finally did find my device and offered a emergency restore. That is it, and the device was restored to default "original state".
OMG.... one would think after nearly having bricked your device you would either A) stop messing around with it or, B) read and learn more about what you're wanting to achieve and THEN maybe trying something with the ABSOLUTE certainty that a backup to restore is available to you in case of any mishap!
Moral of story :
Don't do anything until you are absolutely sure you have read EVERYTHING about what you are going to do.
For others wanting to mess with their devices, take heed! You may not be as lucky as OP (or troller) whichever is applicable.
There comes a certain point, that when crossed one does not care what happens to the device at hand. After fighting with my n8020 for several days in a row i couldn't care less, and like said before i dont have the level of enhusiasm like i had when i was younger. Of course i know now what went wrong.. But seriously, these are just overpriced toys, so it's not a matter of life and death.

[Q] HTC One Mini 601E problem and bricked after trying to install CyanogenMod

Hello guys
I have an HTC One Mini 601E, and today I've try to install Android Kitkat 4.4.2 via CyanogenMod ( by following the procedure on ibtimes, update-htc-one-mini-android-4-4-2-kitkat-via-cyanogenmod-11-rom-1433685 [sorry it seams I cannot post any link as new member...]) so I rooted the phone, installed SuperSU and installed a recovery mod and everything necessary but after trying to install the zip "Android 4.4.2 KitKat Cyanogenmod 11 ROM" few time and with first ClockworkMod and then also TWRP recovery tools I still get the same error : set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed" (Status 7). (even using recovery base Phil..)
I've try few things to try to solve it lbut still get the same error. So I'm wondering why and how I could resolve this. I'm thinking also that this phone is 601E and not 601S. I mean, this phone come from Taiwan, my girlfriend bought it for me but I'm in Australia actally. I know there is just a little difference about the baseband between these two model (601E and 601S). So I was wondering that maybe I need a different version of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat for my phone that come from Taiwan ? I don't know.. but actually I cannot do anything with my phone, when I turn it on I can see the logo HTC and then it reboot again. I can only access the fastboot menu and the recovery mod.
So my questions are :
- How could I successfully install this Android 4.4.2 KitKat Cyanogenmod 11 ROM on my phone ?
- And if it is just not possible or just not working, how can I come back to the previous Android OS that was installed before (Jelly bean) ?
I think to understand that I need a RUU m4 for my phone, I've found some on the website androidruu.com in the M4 RUU category) but I'm not sure if it is the right RUU file for my phone version.
I hope my phone is not broken and hope also to find some help here also sorry for my english is not perfect I hope it is enough clear
Thank you very much for any help.
Jona
I successfully installed another mod but based on Android 4.3, not 4.4 Kitkat. So it's ok
But if somebody know or have an idea about how I could install Android 4.4, I still interesting
Thank you

Hey there,
I,m new too but i'm not devs here, i'm a noob user so probably i'm not going to help much. If I'm explaining something that you are already know, I apologise.
Yet from my little experience, i did flash the latest recovery CWM 6.0.5.1 (i suggest you try it to flash the latest version available too) and using CM 12 build 20140215 unofficial lollipop version on my P3100. All of them you can found on thread by Android-Andi. Just make sure you download and flash the correct version for your P3113 / probably same as P3110 (*I use P3100).
I can't paste his link of work as its on his signature. BUT, you can found it on "Galaxy Tab 2 7" Android Development". On his androidfilehost you may find all the necessary files such as latest rom (twrp, cwm, omni, etc) and customize rom for kitkat or lollipop. He also made slim version for both of it. He also help how to do it. But be aware to backup everything first as usual. as what I did was a clean install thus it may not bring back any bugs with it. So it means download all the apps manually. But if you connect the game with google play your data will stay the same (I guess).
Just my 5cents. Sorry if it doesnt help much or didn't answer your questions. Hope someone could explain it better
Best of luck.
No with clockworkmod recovery it is best to have the one Rom manager recommends for a device. And seeing as no roms have been made for p3113 or p3110 I flashed it with the p3100 recovery. The one it downloaded and flashed is 6.0.2.7 because that recovery is meant for p3100. Nightlies I found out are full builds and with the app link2sd you can convert apps to system apps so you do not loss them when flashing a new rom. So thats what I did with my downloaded apps. Now as I have aslo backed up everything. I need to download a working nightly.
Also I would like to know if I could somehow take away the samsung dependency? They have too many apps that are key to my system's functionality.

How to upgrade & root Note 10.1 N8013, running stock 4.1.2?

Hello all! OK, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (GT-N8013) that I'm still using and love, still running stock everything (Android 4.1.2, Build JZO54K.N8013UEUCMA3). Ideally, I'd like to upgrade to 4.4.2 and root it.
I checked the "Software Update" link on the device (in Settings), and sure enough, it says that I have I have an update downloaded...I'm thinking that it's an update to 4.4.2 that was pushed out to this device some time ago, but I'm not sure...I'm worried that it's some sort of "Samsung-software-only" update or something similarly useless that I may like less than what I have. So I have several questions:
1) Has anyone else experienced this before who can say what this update most likely is? If it's not 4.4.2, what is it?
2) I want to root this device, but from the different forums I've been reading, it appears that it's easier to root 4.1.2; rooting 4.4.2 seems to have met with mixed success, and that makes me nervous. But if I root, I won't be able to do the software update (and I don't want to deal with the custom 4.4.2 roms out there unless I have to, as the process seems very involved).
Does anyone have some insight or advice? Am I wrong about the difficulty involved in rooting stock 4.4.2? Thanks in advance for all your input!
4.1.2 is the last release for N8013 .
Custom Roms have 4.4.2 .
Question is why do you want to root ?

Hello JJegan...thanks for responding to me!
I successfully rooted my phone (a Samsung Galaxy S4) some time ago, and I love it...rooting gives me more finely-grained control over my device, particularly since a lot of apps ask for (in my opinion) rather intrusive permissions (e.g., why should a word-processing app want to know my location?). I have an app on my phone that monitors permissions requested and gives me the option to allow or deny access; I feel better having that and I just wanted to add that to my tablet.
If you're saying that 4.1.2 is the last release (that's what my tablet came with), then what is this software update the tablet is referring to? Also: I have noticed a few custom ROMs available for the 8013, but a lot of them are quite involved and require some unsettling jerry-rigging (e.g., after installation you must disable the phone portion of the ROM because it is added in by default, then you must install a Wi-Fi fix afterward that some users have reported does not always work, etc.)...so I'm worried about that option. But even if I find a custom 4.4.2 ROM that works great, would I be able to root after installing it?
Thanks!
But even if I find a custom 4.4.2 ROM that works great, would I be able to root after installing it?
YES via SuperSu

I have SuperSU on my rooted phone: correct me if I'm wrong, but SuperSU only allows you to manage superuser access for your apps, right? I don't think that app itself can give you root. I'm thinking I'll have to use the second of two methods mentioned in this post, but there have been conflicting reports of whether this works on an N8013 running 4.4.2.
Oh, and for anyone else who might be researching this thread with similar questions in the future: I managed to reach someone in Samsung customer support (wow!): If you have the stock Android 4.1.2 on your Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8013, the software update that the machine may say is available to you is an update to 4.2.2 and that is "the most recent update" (read: last one) provided for this model. You'll have to find a custom ROM to get it to 4.4.2...very disappointed in that!
Long time since i actually rooted . As i understand the supersu zip flashed through TWRP recovery will root your phone .
https://download.chainfire.eu/1003/SuperSU/SR1-SuperSU-v2.78-SR1-20160915123031.zip
4.1.2 is the last listed release from Samsung .for N8013 .
N8010 is up to 4.4.2 as stock rom .
