There is a xposed module called Multi User which enables users in settings.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-multiple-users-phone-t2676516
This requires to be rooted, AOSP rom (4.2+) and xposed installed.
Hit that Thanks button if it helped!

Step #1)
Create security lock through Settings (pattern, pin, password).
Step #2)
Add VPN connections
Step #3)
Plug the phone in and run these commands (requires adb to be setup properly and drivers). I am sure there is a way to do this directly on the phone but this is easier for me.
Commands to remove security:
Code:
adb shell
sqlite3 /data/system/locksettings.db
update locksettings set value=0 where name='lockscreen.password_type';
.exit
exit
Finished!
For me no reboot was required and you do not have to restore pattern in order to create more VPN connections.
Optional Step:
If you decide that you want to restore the security run the one that fits you.
Commands to restore pattern:
Code:
adb shell
sqlite3 /data/system/locksettings.db
update locksettings set value=65536 where name='lockscreen.password_type';
.exit
exit
Commands to restore pin:
Code:
adb shell
sqlite3 /data/system/locksettings.db
update locksettings set value=131072 where name='lockscreen.password_type';
.exit
exit
Commands to restore password:
Code:
adb shell
sqlite3 /data/system/locksettings.db
update locksettings set value=262144 where name='lockscreen.password_type';
.exit
exit
Great! Thank you!
really helpful, i've been fed up with stupid design.
Brilliant, does it also work for ICS?
I don't have an ICS device. If I can find someone that is willing to let me take a look at their ICS device I can see.
When I restart my phone, it needs a password to access VPN menu. what should I do? I don't want to run these commands every time I restart my phone. any solutions?
does it work with exchange password policy as well?

I am not sure but I would imagine so. I would try with pattern lock and not PIN or Password.
Says that "sqlite3: not found" ....
I justd used Forget password option and entered pin , then i didnt choose any options , and the pattern removed
Just tried this. Added vpn, removed lock pattern. It went back to slide, worked fine.
Rebooted, not visiting VPN settings it's asking me to enter credential storage...any ideas how I can a) get past this without wiping my wifi/vpns, or b) remove this but keep my vpns and slide lock?

Works for me, too, until I reboot :/
Doesn't work. Apparently it's problem with sqlite.
soinfo_relocate(linker.cpp:1013): cannot locate symbol "sqlite3_enable_load_extension" referenced by "sqlite3"...CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE
Any help please?
Use Script Manager to make this done on every boot.
1. Make this a batch file:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
echo "update locksettings set value=0 where name='lockscreen.password_type';" | sqlite3 /data/system/locksettings.db
and save it to your sdcard
2. Use Script Manager to run it on boot and enable su (root).
3. Test it by running it from script manager and see if it runs correctly. You can try enabling PIN and it should be disabled after running this.
4. Final test: reboot your phone and see if PIN/password is disabled.
Keep in mind this gets executed after everything else, so if you try to wake your phone right away, you might still see the PIN prompt.
Another way without script manager:
1. Make this a batch file:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
echo "update locksettings set value=0 where name='lockscreen.password_type';" | sqlite3 /data/system/locksettings.db
and save it to your sdcard as 99pinremove
2. Run the following using adb:
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount rw /system
cp /sdcard/99pinremove /etc/init.d/99pinremove
chmod 755 /etc/init.d/99pinremove
chown root:shell /etc/init.d/99pinremove
exit
exit
In 4.4 there is no such file
Code:
/data/system/locksettings.db
.. any ideas?
Hey everyone!
Recently I've had problems with using the command "adb remount". I thought it was a kernel problem but it happened with both Trinity and
Elementalx kernel. I have installed the universal naked drivers 0.73 for my nexus 5. I think it is a root problem since nothing pops up on my phone
when entering "adb root". I have tried to retype it several times and it doesn't say "adb is already running as root" or something like that like it used
to. It keeps repeating "restarting adbd as root" whenever I type that command. Sorry if I'm not clear :/
Thanks everyone!
I personally prefer to run adb via recovery. Have you tried this?
I have also failed to use remount in android.
The solution is as rootsu suggests.
Boot to recovery and do
Adb shell mount /system
Or
Adb shell mount /data
Which ever partition you want to be changing

I don't think so. It's just easier.
With SlimKat and elementalx*
I have adb and apps set as root in slimkat although I doubt this is a requirement in non-AOSP roms that do not have this option. Need USB debugging on and the screen unlocked
Code:
C:\Users\rootsu\Desktop\tools>adb root

Hello guys, experiencing another problem now :silly:
Have search all around, couldn't find any valid answers so I decided to ask myself.
So I was just making a rom, which I have already installed. It's based on Cataclysm (personal use only - Till I ask for perm).
I have installed the rom, then I decided to theme some system files. And so I did. I theme the "Settings.apk" for now, and decided to push it to my device instead of installing the whole rom over again. Now mind you when I made roms and modified system apps, pushing these files to the device was straight forward. However on this Hammerhead, I've been running into some issues.
When pushing the file to my device like this
Code:
adb push Settings.apk system/priv-app
.
I get an error that says -
Code:
failed to copy "Settings.apk" to "system/priv-app/Settings.apk" : Read only file system.
So I then decided to try the following -
Code:
[x] adb root - Permission Denied
[x] adb remount - Permission Denied
So then I decided to use some shell commands to set the system as rw, I did the following.
Code:
[x] adb shell
[x] $ su - gave it permission
[x] $ mount -o rw,remount /system - It mounts it.
I then restarted cmd with root permission.
Code:
adb root"
- it restarted however, this time it stated.
Code:
Device not found.
I probably did the wrong thing above, so how exactly can I push files to /system?
SOLVED
Thanks to everyone that answered my question in detail.
The easiest way I know to push files to /system through adb is using a custom recovery . Try with it.
Why not use usb or AirDroid to transfer files?

How would I do so? I've ever only used recovery to flash. And that was it, thanks if you can guide me through it?

Boot into recovery and connect the usb cable. Open a cmd prompt.
Code:
adb shell
mount /system
exit
adb push c:\users\krishneelg3\desktopmyfile /system/priv-app
You can also use the "mount system" option in recovery and skip the first 2 commands above.

Open recovery, mount system partition and connect it to pc and then normal procedure.
It will be running as adbd to no need to type adb root. Hope this helps

You can still do it through Android, but it's more difficult because adb root doesn't always work (requires kernel) and you have to mount r/w which is just a pain. I always adb push in recovery.
However, here is an example of a successful attempt to adb push on my nexus 5.
Code:
C:\Users\rootsu\Desktop\tools>adb root
adbd is already running as root
C:\Users\rootsu\Desktop\tools>adb shell

Hi,
Sorry if it's not the good forum, I have looked for the good one but I'm not very easy with English.
I want to sort out files by date in directories to delete automatically oldest backup files with a script. I have Cyanogenmod 11 on a Samsung Galaxy S2. I have installed Busybox (Stephen Stericson) on my phone from the Playstore to use the command ls -t because in standard we have only ls and ls -l. But when I tape ls -t, I have an error message "Unknown option". I've tried with Cyanogenmod 12 but I have the same problem.
I would want to know if ls -t doesn't function in BusyBox or if I have another problem.
Thank you.
No response :crying: .
Can somebody tell me if he haves a BusyBox which enables to use the command and which is this BusyBox : ls -t?
Thank you .
Are you sure you are using busybox?
try running: busybox ls -t
Ok, I have to type "busybox" first. I will try it, thank you.
Ok, it works when I add "busybox" in the command . I'm just a little surprised, I had understood the busybox commands replaced the shell commands.
You can also add: busybox sh
to your script and after that you could easily use ls -t without busybox.
Ok, thank you but it's not annoying to add "busybox". I don't create a lot of scripts .
Now I try to solve the problem to move files to the sdcard. It worked fine in 4.1.2 but with Cyanogenmod 11, I have a cross device link. I tried also "cp -p" to keep initial attributes but I have "Operation not permitted".
Well currently i am using jackpal.androidterm emulator and always needed to type 2 commands bf new entriws would be allowed.
Namely the following commands. 1. startup su by running su command. 2. mounting r/o to r/w of /system mount blabla.
Well here comes in my helpfull hint (^o^)
go into settings menu and alter the startup command send to shell into this line of text.
su && busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
now ur emulator will always start with su approved (#) and /system
running as r/w mounted. u could add more commands as long as u
add these symbols btween commands && . take note there aint spaces inbetween or it wont work.
ohh and easy command help for terminal u get by typing the next
line of text. replace the COMMAND with desired item.
busybox COMMAND --help
use the busybox command on its own to see commands it can use..
hope helps someone who wanna know more about busybox and terminal emulator commands.
And if u wanna use bash scripts just add it to the startup command.
su && busybox mount -o remount,rw /system && bash
u need bash installed of course, and i used an alternate path so the program stays clean. i used /data/local/foldername to store my bash, busybox, android toolbox so they wouldnt get corrupted. the android toolbox i found in my /system/bin and i put bash and busybox into /system/xbin and all seems to work fine.
