Trouble unlocking Moto G bootloader. - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, A few days ago I ordered a Moto G which arrived this morning. I went onto Motorola's bootloader unlocking tool (https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b) and attempted to unlock my Moto G's bootloader. To my discontent, I got an error message. "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking." My device is a first generation Moto G running KitKat 4.4.4. I have been looking all day for a solution, but nothing has turned up. I have tried scrolling to the bottom of the T&A form and accepting the terms before clicking "Can my device be unlocked?" I have tried unlinking my Motorola ID, and I have tried using different browsers. I am absolutely positive I'm entering the "fastboot oem get_unlock_data" return correctly. If anyone can help, please do. I'll paste the return below.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot oem get_unlock_data

Certain carriers prevent moto from providing unlock keys. AT&T, Verizon, and I'm sure there's others. Your best bet is to try to adapt the newest root method for the x to our device or find a Chinese middleman to get you a key.

I know it's a Verizon prepaid phone, and I knew Verizon was going to cause trouble. But I got it from Best Buy brand new for $40, so I don't have too much to complain about. Do you think I could go through SunShine to get an unlock code? I'm sure I could scrape up $25 pretty quick.

As long as you haven't updated past 4.4.2 afaik, it will still work. 4.4.4 won't work with sunshine though.
Unless there's money to be made, not much effort is going to be put into it. I just don't see any more progress with this thing unless there's a bounty involved. I'd do it myself for free if I had the time and knowledge to do so.

Do you think I could go to a Verizon store and ask them to unlock the bootloader for me?

Nope. You can only get the code from moto and if the phone is on that blacklist, its not gonna happen.

[Q] Warranty after unlocking bootloader

After entering to Moto G's fastboot and typing "fastboot getvar all" a lot of interesting informations about device are showed. There are two, that interest me:
Code:
(bootloader) unlocked: no
(bootloader) iswarrantyvoid: no
I know, that bootloader can be easily unlocked with quick "fastboot oem unlock". What's more, "fastboot oem lock" relocks bootloader like in Nexus devices. However, in Nexus world relocking and stock reflashing is equal with warranty restore - I've tested this on myself, when my Nexus 7's screen has cracked (it was little raised on one side) and speaker was buzzing - I've relocked, restored stock, wiped, sent it back and they have repaired it.
So my question is: does relocking bootloader and full stock reflash (like one from there) restore iswarrantyvoid variable back to no? Or at least does Motorola still pay attention to it after Moto X's liberal warranty declarations?

Nope. Unlocking the devices triggers a hardware fuse that lets Motorola know that the device has been unlocked. Plus the UUID or whatever it is that is used to give you the bootloader unlock code is probably marked down as unlocked on Moto's side, as well, which voids your warranty.
We need a better 'crack' to go back iswarrantyvoid: no to yes without cross motorola side..
If you have a hardware fault then you are still covered under EU law so Motorola cannot use this bootloader unlock thing to get out of repairs.
Yesterday, I unlocked bootloader and rooted my Moto G. Today, after relocked boatloader and unroot (reinstalled the stock rom and reset factory), my phone come back to status
(bootloader) unlocked: no
(bootloader) iswarrantyvoid: no
Does that mean I will have my guarantee back again

Here we talk about unlock bootloader brother. We no need a code to unlock bootloader and root device. Unlock code is to let device using many different networks, not lock to only 1 network.
Just in reply to the OP....
re the N7 "cracked screen" and "buzzing speaker"...
Just how did or could the unlocked boatloader cause these apparent manufacturing faults?
In what way would the unlocked bootloader allow Motorola a get out from any Warranty, even outside of the EU??
Manufacturers and retailers hide behind this myth of "your warranty is now void"....in circumstances where it is wholly BS.

Incorrect. Currently the only way to unlock the bootloader on the MotoG is to get an unlock code directly from Motorola's website.

Wrong. We DO need an unlock code from Moto to unlock the bootloader. The Moto G comes without simlock by default (exception with PrePay phones) so that sort of unlocking is mostly rather pointless.

Problems with unlocking boot loader??

Hello guys, I bought a boost mobile moto g for 70$ for use as a music device. I made sure the model was unlockable before I bought it and it is supposed to be. I went on Motorola's website and I got the CID ID from fastboot which is 0x0009, and according to Motorola that model is unlockable.
But, when I enter the fastboot oem get_unlock_data command it says my device isn't unlockable.
I'm kinda pissed now.
Any help?
Anyone? Has anyone else had issues unlocking the boot loader?
Yes but i got the 99$ prepaid verizon moto g for emulators but it died(bootloader wont load but still eventually fixable) while I was trying to hack it to unlock it.

I have the same problem
hopefully someone is going to help us
I have heard it mentioned that you can temporarily root the ATT/AIO/Cricket XT1045 on Android 4.4.4, but not permanently (yet). I have no idea how, though.
Can someone help us out?
I had an hour or so long talk with an AT&T employee who actually knew what they were talking about. I believe due to restrictions in ATT tech chat, he was unable to post either links or straight out tell me how to do it, but he said that it is very possible.
Perhaps people should try logging into their AT&T account and using the tech chat to see what someone can come up with.
Has any progress been made on this? I have XT1045 from Cricket Wireless (owned by AT&T) and the bootloader is not unlockable using the conventional method.

OK. Here I go. Sorry I'm kind of new to XDA. I too have a xt1045 and I just unlocked the boot loader and I too am on ATT.
I bought my phone from Motorola unlocked, idk if ATT or cricket or whatever carrier sells them unlocked too. That may affect bootloader unlocking since you may need an unlocked device to see unlock boot loader.
Now down to the bootloader code.
Make sure you are copying the code correctly from the command prompt. I think the first time I tried to unlock bootloader, I may have copied wrong or something like that. Also, I have heard reports of people retrying, have their devices verified, and getting a code to unlock bootloader. Hopefully that is the case for you guys and unlocking is a viable option.
Hope I helped
Feel free to ask me question about unlocking the bootloader.
I haven't rooted yet and I am getting ready for that.
FYI: you we're able to unlocked your bootloader only because you purchased your device directly from Motorola. The rest of us who purchased from a carrier are F*CKED.

Yeah except i was only replying to him saying if you got your moto G from a carrier it's locked always your f**ked , and that aint so ..
And I didn't say carrier unlocked uh I got it from a carrier new , so yeah soon as I opened the box and entered bootloader it said unlocked yes and no warning screen upon boot either saying this device has been unlocked .
For you guys with At&T-XT1045 or any try this k , Lemme know if it worked
1.) Unlink your Device from motorola ID which means dont be signed in from your device in settings menu -unlink it & don't log in with your google account neithaa dawg.
2.) Unlink from motorola site if needed if option is there
3.) Sign into website and drag the entire policy bar to the bottom (like you read it in entirety) click I agree and check for key eligibility again
4.) Try again with IE 11 if you haven't used it already
5.) recheck your string letter for freakin letter removes all spaces make sure you include # signs try one more time.. There are 4-5 spaces when you just copy/paste the string so paste the code into notepad with any extra spaces deleted please.
See here from about 3:00 on -->> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjsO7t5ulhw
6.) If all that failed spend $25 get http://theroot.ninja/ ( for only 5.01 or lower - doesn't work on 5.02 I heard)
7.) If all else has failed head to thee motorala-forumwhere they are informing moto G owners to send email with their fastboot oem get_unlock_data + fastboot getvar al, and they should be able to accomodate you..
8.) Proceed to adb Sideload or Flash This Total Sauciness Either Way Moto G 2014 Owners

Cant unlock bootloader on refurbished pixel 2

I recently bought a refurbished pixel 2 from a phone repair shop and i went through the process to unlock the bootloader, enabling dev options, enabling oem unlocking and usb debugging, ect. but when i boot into the bootloader and run
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
, it throws an error
Code:
FAILED (remote: 'Flashing Unlock is not allowed')
fastboot: error: Command failed
but when i run fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability it returns
Code:
(bootloader) get_unlock_ability: 1
OKAY [ 0.000s]
Finished. Total time: 0.000s
result of 'adb shell getprop sys.oem_unlock_allowed' is 1
result of 'adb shell getprop ro.boot.cid' is 00000000
im running linux and ive tried running the command as sudo and just launching a root terminal to no avail. If anyone can help, it would be very much appreciated
EDIT: Now im even a bit more confused. i ran
Code:
fastboot oem device_info
and it returns
Code:
(bootloader) Verity mode: true
(bootloader) Device unlocked: false
[B](bootloader) Device critical unlocked: true[/B]
(bootloader) Charger screen enabled: true
OKAY [ 0.000s]
Finished. Total time: 0.000s
so if critical is unlocked why cant i just unlock the bootloader?
How do you know that the pixel was refurbished? I bought one (as new) as well but I fear that it might be refurbished. Is there something to look up in order to check that?

any phone this old listed as new or brand new is 100% refurbished in china using the ****tiest parts and then boxed in a really poor recreation of the stock box and shipped off to a distributor in your country
Any update? Same issue here
maybe you need to use the "oem unlock" command instead of "flashing unlock".

I also have the same problem
is it possible to unlock via some type of APK without PC
I know that the refurbished pixel 2s that Google sends as replacements have locked bootloaders.
Also the Verizon wireless variant of the pixel 2 has a locked bootloader
So it could be that who ever refurbished your device locked the bootloader permanently

I also have the same problem. Reported it to google and they have no solution at this time.
Can I root it with magisk without having to unlock the bootloader first? I know I won't be able to flash twrp to the recovery image though.
If something wen't wrong, could I sideload the last ota and get everything back as long as I can boot to the bootloader?

oem unlock gives the same error
I'm just grasping at straws here, but did you try *relocking* the device from the critical_unlock, and the unlocking it with the regular unlock command?
I'm on a Pixel 2 warranty replacement from Google directly. The OEM Unlock option is enabled in developer settings as is USB Debugging. The computer has been authorized by the Pixel.
I'm getting those same errors. It's definitely not a Verizon Wireless phone since it's a Canadian phone sold directly by Google.
I'm guessing there is no workaround for this yet. Why would it be listed as bootloader unlock allowed in developer options yet fail when you go to fastboot flashing unlock?

maybe there is some sort of failsafe in the kernel that stops it from being bootloader unlocked if a component on the board has been replaced? or maybe google just says "frick you, pay more money if you want root"
but that's just a theory.... A GAY THEORY
Hi I just bought a refurb Pixel 2 on Amazon. When i go to developer options I see the "OEM unlocking" option is completely greyed out. Even after i enabled usb debugging.
Does that mean that my bootloader is impossible to be unlocked? And how is one able to know if they have the Verizon variant?

This is why I regret doing a warranty through Google Fi. I even had it replaced twice. Both times, the bootloader was locked. It appears to be unlock-able, but then this happens.
Does anyone know if this is limited to just the Pixel 2? I never had this problem with the Nexus 5X phones I had.

Motorola G7 Power Sim Locked / Change Carrier ( Verizon ) w/ rooting help

Hello, I need some help/advice.
TLDR;
Verizon Motorola G7 power (Build PDOS29.114-134-12)
{
that i want to use on straight talk verizon towers is sim locked and verizon cant help me.
I tried rooting but the device isnt elligble to unlock the bootloader from motorola, attempted root anyway and it was unsuccessful running the console commands with the patched boot.img file.
}
I purchased a Verizon G7 Power on ebay and typically I just throw a sim card in and it works, sometimes I root the phone if i wanted to do things like teathering or run other apps.
I put my Straight talk ( verizon tower ) sim card that I use into the new phone and the phone simply says "change carrier, sorry your device can't be activated on another carriers network right now" and lists the verizon support numbers.
I went to the store and asked for assistance but they referred me again to tech support and gave me a more direct number.
Of course I called and the they were very good at helping me except the outcome all came down to, the device isnt blacklisted/stolen based off the meid and i should "wait 90 days" to be able to use the phone
Its been 90 days also since i purchased it.
So then I went to root it thinking maybe if I have a different build it would be alright.
Went through the steps with the tools, patched the boot img and transferred it back to my pc and ran the command line
"PS C:\Android\platform-tools> ./fastboot flash boot C:\Users\D*****\Desktop\magisk_patched.img
(bootloader) is-logical:boot_a: not found
Sending 'boot_a' (18137 KB) OKAY [ 0.740s]
Writing 'boot_a' (bootloader) Image boot failed validation
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
FAILED (remote: '')
fastboot: error: Command failed
PS C:\Android\platform-tools>"
I was able to check the box in the settings to 'allow bootloader to be unlocked"
So then I realized maybe I need the bootloader unlock code from Motorola, so i went through those steps and when pasting my string motorola says my device isnt eligible to be unlocked.
What do i do now ?
Thank you in advanced for your advices.
