What is the phone booted into when you're entering the adb command? The phone is booted into Android or in recovery? If you're in bootloader you'll need to use fastboot commands. Such as fastboot devices

It doesnt show up when its booted into android, recovery or bootloader. I am running windows 7 home premium. Ive tried many different driver installers and nothing has worked.

ive just noticed also that when i have it connected and booted into recovery the driver "Android" couldnt be installed, but if its booted into android or bootloader the drivers are fine. i dont know what driver i should be installing for that, i went back and reinstalled my moto g drivers completely, i have philz touch recovery 6.55

I would suggest uninstalling whatever drivers you have installed. Disconnect your phone, uninstall drivers, restart, install drivers and connect your device then try again. When the phone is connected as mtp, adb, fastboot, it will install drivers for each type.

i have done so and still to no avail. everything driver wise is working, but still the driver "Android" when in recovery could not be installed. still no trace of phone in adb devices when booted or fastboot devices when in bootloader.

Where did you DL the adb thing at? You could have a faulty adb download or just didn't install your correct api in the adb suite

[Q] Can't unroot: ADB doesn't work in bootloader mode, but works in debug mode

The phone is unlocked, with clockworkmod recovery 6.0.1.0 and stock rooted 4.1.1 ROM.
I'm using Windows 7 x64 SP1.
When the phone is ON and the debug mode is activated, it shows correctly under "device manager" and adb works right, but when I reboot in bootloader ADB doesn't see any attached device even if it shows correctly under device manager.
I tried to update the USB driver of the Android SDK but dosn't work
I then uninstalled it and tried to install the Universal Naked Driver (almost all of the nexus or samsung types) but doesn't work
I uninstaleld it and tried another USB driver found on the forum but doesn't work.
I tried to install Android SDK on another PC with Windows 7 x86 SP1 and repeat all the steps but it's the same.
How can I unroot and lock the device if it doesn't shows when in bootloader mode?
You don't use adb in bootloader. You use fastboot.
Locking the bootloader does not unroot by the way.

Have you tried the Nexus Root Toolkit by WugFresh? It is an application that takes you in several easy steps in installing drivers, rooting, and lock/unlock your device. For installing drivers there are several additional steps when installing them seems unsuccessful.

This is true, I've used Wugfresh toolkit too but I had some problem...
I've Nexus S 9023, with wug toolkit I had no problem to install driver with its very complete guide, this part can solve your problem but make attention on other function, for example with it I've also unlocked my phone but when I tried to root my device freeze.
So maybe that not all toolkit function will work well on all Nexus S.
Please stop with this toolkit nonsense.
Its not a driver issue at this point. Its the user using ADB instead of fastboot.
Remove this and that when he is just using the wrong command. This is the nonsense you see when all people know is some toolkit.
Yeah, I'm an idiot, that was not a driver issue
it's just because I usually root/unroot/unlock/lock my android phones once in a while (when I first buy and when I sell them), so I always forget some basic procedures and searching through the forums is always a mess, I spent three hours doing that, before posting...
I had forgotten ADB and fastboot weren't the same... anyway, I solved with WugFresh (I didn't know it, thanks for the tip) but I could have solved even with plain fastboot commands, I know
Anyway, I'm surprised to realize that the real stock ROM is more stable than the rooted and deodexed stock ROM I was using before, now the 3G/2G/airplanemode swithing is blazing fast and the performance drops on some games are gone... I'll never figure out this Android world
Thanks for all your help :victory:

It's included in Motorola Device Manager. Unsure why you are getting that error, try rebooting computer or reinstalling all drivers.

Unable to boot after unistalling Swift Keyboard - Moto G 1033 lolipop
After unistalling Swift Keyboard app, I wasn't able to use default keyboard. So, I restarted my mobile, which never happened. I see blank screen. I tried Recovery mode, and then Wipe Cache partition as well, but didn't work.
What are my options, to recover my phone, with data, ie contacts, emails, sms, photos, etc.

[Q] Pull data with a smashed screen

Just after updating to lollipop I completly smashed my screen. It doesn't show any usefull information and touch is not working.
Since I'm not in the mood to buy a new screen because I already bought a Note 4, I wanted to pull the data from the phone. It's pin protected but fastboot is still working, adb however is not.
After reading up a bit I found that going into cwm recovery I would still be able to acces adb.
So I with fastboot I booted cwm recovery (fastboot boot recovery.img) only to find that adb still won't find my devices.
Is there any way left to pull the data from my phone? I also have acces to a external keyboard/mouse with a otg cable but that won't seem to work either.
Boot into recovery and with your device plugged into your pc go to device manager. Do you see your device there?
Sent from my Nexus 9 using XDA Free mobile app
In recovery it doesn't show up.
On a normal boot it does, only no files are showing because of the pin lock.

Google 15 second adb install xda. It has drivers as well as sets up adb and fastboot on your pc which you'll need if you can get your device detected
Edit, also download the twrp image from here and boot into it fastboot boot twrp.img (use the full name of the twrp image file) cwm sucks. http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hammerhead

I think I got it working, I already had adb working but it wouldn't find the correct drivers for the nexus 5.
I tried to update the drivers from google but windows said that it didn't find any correct drivers for the devices so I had to get "naked drivers" from somewhere.
After that it showed up as galaxy nexus adb interface in the device managers and adb was able to find it.
It's now pulling all the data.
Thanks you for your help!
I will report back when it's done pulling.

[Q] Hard Bricked Moto G 4.4.4 Solution??

Hello Friends,
Now i m going to tell you everything which everyone should keep in mind to avoid bricking our beloved Moto G.
I have unlocked my bootloader to enjoy full root features in my mobile. So rooted it on lollipop stock rom.
And found that some old Gameloft HD games like 9MM,tintin etc shows incompatible handset. So tried to change build.prop file in /system folder to convert my mobile name to Samsung Galaxy S2 to install the incompatible games and then messed up everything and my phone won't restart but however bootloader, recovery is working.
In this step I should have tried to restore my original build.prop file by using adb commands or fastboot commands. But I didn't knew this and tried factory reset in recovery menu which didn't help and adb commands failed to work.
Then I searched online and used fastboot commands to flash to 4.4.3 Stock Rom and it worked fine.
I should have left my mobile in this Rom.
But official 4.4.4 system OTA file didn't let me do that which in turn made my mind to download and install 4.4,4 OTA
and here goes my problem,Downloaded successfully and tried to intsall but it didn't
My phone won't boot,no recovery,no bootloader,no adb ,atleast no fastboot commands
except qhsusb_bulk shown in devices and sometimes usb input device or vmware usb device with white led light blinking
Anyone faced similar problem and got solution .Please Help

Hi!
I'm on the same problem but with a Moto X 2014. I've found this page (shown below). I tried the qboot program but I've got a fail while starting fastboot. I was thinking that the problem might have been windows 10. Now I'm back to windows 7 and I'm trying to get the qhsusb_bulk device detection.
allfreeperks.in/2015/01/unbrick-how-to-repair-and-recover-from_9.html
by the way, have you found any solution? I'm still trying to get the qhsusb_bulk device recognized by windows 7 and I don't know why I can't get there.

[SOLVED] Moto X, ADB &Win7 not playing well together!

Hey all, I've come for the help of those at a higher paygrade!
I've rooted, flashed and played with lots of phones in the past, but this one has me stumped. I decided to flash my XT1575 with LOS. Went through the process of unlocking the bootloader, etc. When I started the process everything worked fine, I was able to connect with ADB, fastboot, etc, etc.
When I unlocked the bootloader, I installed (and thought) the TWRP had held, but it didn't. If I boot the phone into recovery I get the dead Android with "No Command" (or something similar).
That isn't the problem (not exactly). Now my PC is acting up and doesn't connect to ADB. As soon as I unlocked the bootloader and connected to the pc, Windows started looking to install new drivers. Even with ADB debugging turned off, the Moto X isn't seen by the PC - even as just a device.
tl;dr I uninstalled everything related to ADB & Motorola. Reinstalled everything on the pc from a fresh boot and as administrator, but I am still getting driver issues. Even if I connect the Moto X to the PC in fastboot mode, I get a "Driver not found error" for the Fastboot clark S device.
I installed the latest Android SDK
I installed the latest Moto Drivers
Here's what I get:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/3yvr0yd5vpef3jw/Fastbook clark S.jpg?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ly0n0ex3anlpan6/Moto X Device Drivers.jpg?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/d9etreo9gd5zc5f/Moto X Device Manager.jpg?dl=0
Any thoughts??
Cheers, MadDogDean
PS. I've tried following a few threads already, but I keep stonewalling trying to get the PC to connect to the Moto X, in any fashion
There is joy in Mudsville today!!
OK, so after posting the above, (which I'll leave for anyone sinking in the same boat), I started poking around the programs/files.
It now appears there was a borked install/uninstall of an OLD, OLD Motorola driver. It didn't show in the Add/Remove programs nor the Start Menu. I deleted it (but didn't touch anything in the registry), uninstalled the ABD SDK and the Motorola Drivers. Rebooted and reinstalled everything. The deivce NOW was seen as an XT1575 and all drivers were loaded and runs like a tick!
Hope this helps someone else!
Cheers,
MadDogDean
