[Q] Touch Screen Not working - Need to Backup - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The same issue some other users have discussed has come up for me: Went to bed last night and all was well; woke up this morning and the screen isn't registering touches.
No big deal, TMo store is around the corner so I'll go exchange it.
The question I have now is, what is the best and most complete backup I can do with this non-rooted version of the phone so I can get the new phone, then come home and restore as much as possible?

mytouch 4g erasing all screens

OK, so, i know the topic sounds confusing. But my wife's mytouch 4g's battery died the other day. so, we charge it up then turn it on only to find out that every widget, every app, etc is gone from the screen. all that is left is the live wallpaper. apps and everything are still on the phone but all the links to the apps and various widgets are gone. just blank live wall paper screens. so, she manually puts everything back like it used to be, rebooted the phone and now everything is gone again. WTF? anyone know why it is doing this and how to make it not happen? she is against installing any custom ROMs (i'm working on bringing her to the dark side of android). thanks for the help.

The first thing you should try before you do anything else is a factory reset. This sounds like a pretty weird software bug. If it continues, call T-mobile and have them send a replacement.
Is this her first Android? Is she restoring data and settings from another phone through the use of MyBackUp or similar programs? Sometimes using these programs to restore data can cause strange behavior like this, especially if that data is coming from a different device.
On first boot after the factory reset let the phone sit for a solid 5 minutes before setting up. There is first boot "thinking" going on...
EDIT - if you lucked out and got the "good" screen and don't want to warranty replace it you could always root and use the stock nandroid restore found somewhere in the mytouch 4g development section. I'm fairly certain that a factory reset will solve your problems though.
that happen to me.... power the handheld down and let it sit a good few minutes and then boot it back up... all the homes screens should be back to normal.
idk whats up maybe its a bad batch of MyTouchs T-mo recently recieved but i had to send mine back as it kept rebooting itself multiple times a day

Screen would not unlock

Hi,
I've only had my Nexus S for a couple of days and loving it so far, but this morning I had a problem. Here's how it happened:
When my alarm clock went off I hit the snooze button and turned the screen off, went back to sleep. 10 minutes later the alarm went off again later as expected and so I hit snooze again and turned the screen off like before. 5 minutes later I decided to get up as otherwise I would have been late for work, so I go to my phone to disable the alarm as otherwise it would be buzzing when I'm in the shower and the missus would get annoyed. The problem however was that I couldn't unlock the screen! I was jabbing at the power button repeatedly to get it to come on but no response at all. I ending up removing the battery. I should also add that my phone was plugged in a the time as I'd left it charging over night.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? I will try and replicate the problem. Here's how my phone is at the moment:
All my homescreens are bare apart from the main one where I have a 4 shortcuts, google search bar and the analogue clock widget. Apps I currently have installed are: Ebay official, facebook official, Twitter official, 3G watchdog, Fruit Ninja, Angy Birds, Live Holdem, Google maps, Gmail Unread Count, Movies, TV Guide.
I'm hoping that this problem was just a one-off.
Thanks
sort of same here. i bought it last thursday and today i can't use the lower part of the screen, right where the phone, menu and browser icons are. Space bar won't work when writing text, etc.
If anyone knows how to fix, pls share
The device is stock 2.3.3, i9023XXKB1, didn't root.

I have been using Nexus S for 4 months now, and I do have random reboots once in a while. Did the phone well work after the reboot?

I never had responsive problem on my phone other than the phone just freezing... Maybe theres something wrong, go ask Samsung.
unfortunately i also have such a problem now! since this morning my screen does not respond on touch correctly...it is very hard to unlock the screen (have to do it very slowly, bar is jumping like crazy) and after that it seems like the screen is reacting even on any reflection, suddenly the status bar is coming down, if i am in a menu, it always scrolls down and up...damned, that sux!
any ideas what i could do? or is this a case for samsung support?
ps: i did not flash anything in the last days, i even restored my nandbackup, that i made after 2.3.4-update (no custom kernel, no nothing), but that did not change anything...

[Q] [ROM]MiniCM7 Pro - V7x - GingerBread (2.3.5) and my screen stays black

Hello,
Sorry to post this here. I've been following a few threads about x10 mini pro custom roms for weeks now but after signing up I am not allowed to ask my question to that specific rom there. It said I should post it here first.
I am using the [ROM]MiniCM7 Pro - V7x - GingerBread (2.3.5) by paul-xxx for more than 2 weeks now and it works great, I even have a battery life of about 14 hours now instead of 6 after I stopped using launcher pro and used the standard adw.
But I have 2 serious problems.
The first is that I cannot always unlock my phone. I know I have seen this question a lot but in my case the screen just stays black. There is no slider that does not want to slide. Just a black screen. If I slide open the keyboard I see the lights go on some times. When I connect via usb I can open a shell (via putty) and every thing seems up and running. Just the display is now showing anything.
When pushing buttons and sliding the keyboard several times I sometimes get the screenback. Some times just have to wait 5 minutes or so.
Does anyone have any clue what to do about this?
I tried killing the launcher process but that did not help, it just restarts and even if it did help I do not always have the phone connected to usb.
The other question is about missing calls. I had several missed call alerts while i was sure I was next to the phone all day.
Today I saw it happening for the first time. (because I got a missed call sms and right after that a call on the land line which was the same person who called my cell)
So I called my phone (after letting it go to sleep), used top to see whats going on. I saw the process android.phone.com starting to use more cpu (but not 100%) and I even saw the screen get activated (after 10 seconds or so) but no sound and then it went to voicemail and the phone went dark again but the sms with the missed call came in right away.
Is there a solution to this or are there more people have problems with this?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

[Q] Phone Settings Option Gone

I finally got around to running the stock update from the standard Infuse I got last year, to the 2.3.6 version through KIES mini last night.
The installation was fast, simple and easy and the phone is working great now. Except there is one problem: the "Phone" section of the Settings menu is completely gone. I cannot run the touch screen calibration tool, and I can tell everything is very slightly off from what it was before the update. I can't change the vibration settings, and I'm sure there are 10 other useful things in there I can't access now.
My question is, is this intended? Is there a way to get them back? It isn't a HUGE deal, but man it would be useful to have back.

Softkeys not reliably working

Had the M8 for about a week before rooted it and installed CM11-M12. Haven't had any problems for the past ~6 months up until a few weeks ago.
During that time, I upgraded from 3.28.605.4 to the 4.17.605.5 firmware along with CM12 Snapshot (2015-06-25). Things worked fine for over a week until one morning I woke up late and found out the phone's alarm never went off. In fact, the phone was frozen and wouldn't respond to anything. Force powered it off and on again. Upon bootup, there was a message which stated something to the effect that the System UIDs Inconsistent. I think I used the TWRP fix permissions and it went away (but many of the application's settings had been wiped). I continued to use the phone for about another week and noticed a new problem where touches on the softkeys wouldnt always work. Enabled the debugging tools option to show touches and when the problem is occurring, I can see the touch doesnt register to the very bottom of the screen. The rest of the touch screen works fine. The 'pointer location' debugging tool shows multiple touches works fine too. Additionally, some times ghost touches are registered and stuck in the softkey area.
I got fed up with the CM12 bugs and the softkey issues so I went back to my CM11-M12 nandroid backup and was fine for a few weeks before softkey issue came back. Now its happening a lot more frequently. Most often in the bottom right corner of the softkeys and/or ghost presses getting stuck (I have the dev Show Touches always enabled now). I've went back to the 3.28.605.4 firmware, no change. The softkey issue even occurs in TWRP, which would lead me to believe that it's really a hardware problem.
Tried calling Verizon support but soon as they found out its been rooted, warned me that very likely will get charged for a new phone if it got sent into HTC.
Thoughts on a fix or other options?
Got replacement M8 from VZW. restored CM11 via nandroid and this problem no longer occurs.
