[Q] Will uk vodafone be locked?

Ie Could I buy sim free and put O2 sim in it??
You won't be able to buy simfree from Vodafone, but once it's out at places like Amazon, you will be able too put any SIM card in you want, yes.
It won't be sim locked. they say none of their phones are.
I thought all of Vodafone's devices were locked. Great news if it's unlocked.
I bought my HD2 directly from the Vodafone UK website about 18 months ago and it's unlocked.
But my DHD is locked to t-mobile
Vodafone haven't locked Contract phones for years now. PAYG however...
I ordered mine from Vodafone today, are we expecting this to be a standard version or a Vodafone infected version.
Vodafone rom, with their super fast update schedule- not. Without doubt.
Thanks for reminding me on that one. Im definately waiting till when I return from honeymoon in mid june. If I buy it, definately getting it sim free with maybe a 3 mobile ayce sim. Vodafone lag way behind official updates.

Given the speed it's coming out, I kind of expect a stock ROM.

Having said that mate, Vodafone have an EU release clause with HTC, so when an update goes live in the EU, it goes live in the UK too. Not like other carries. Vodafone got the official GB release before anyone else on the DHD

I'm also betting on them sticking to stock ROM to get the initial batch out as early as possible.
Even if it's a branded ROM I won't mind too much as Vodafone have recently been getting HTC ROM updates out before unbranded updates (as crazy as that sounds) and their bloatware seems to be reduced as of late too.

The only 'bloatware' my original Vodafone HTC Magic had was a Vodafone Live! app, which only ran if you wanted to use it.

If my new Sensation arrives with no bloatware, I will make an effort to thank them on the Vodafone eforum. I like to let them know I appreciate it

Given how fast we are getting them, I bet they will just be direct from HTC to the customers! I hope so at least!
Re: rom updates. Can only go off when hd2 got released. We had to wait a fair bit for updates. Cant comment on other handsets. Sorry

Silly question perhaps, but even if the vodafone handset is unlocked, will we still have to wait for vodafone to release updates or will we get them straight from HTC?

Pretty sure if this is the case then the updates will come straight from HTC, but I'm no expert.

With the Desire, it had to come from Vodafone unless you debrand it and flash a WWE RUU via Goldcard. The initial batch were unbranded though. There was much noise made when Vodafone delayed the Froyo update and initially released firmware which had a branded splash screen and various other useless bits and pieces (eg links to dating services, Vodafone Live, etc etc). It was then retracted and an unbranded Froyo was subsequently released. This whole fiasco was even reported on TechRadar UK
I think Vodafone pay monthly phones are all unlocked. It says so on their website. If I remember correctly, their phones did used to be locked but you could request an unlock code once your contract was up (or I think pay a small fee). The only exception was the Blackberry Storm, but let's not reopen old wounds I think I threw mine hard into a brick wall

[Q] Any news on HTC One X OTA 1.28?

The 1.26 version sucks out battery too fast. Hope they will release 1.28 soon... Any news? Thanks
You ask HTC, they tell you to contact your network, you contact your network they tell you they have no information to give you, it's a constant loop
here:
http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/26703-new-one-x-ota-to-significantly-improve-battery
should be out this week in Europe.
very useful thanks.
Nothing yet, still stuck on 1.26 i'm on a generic phone so should get an update before the likes of Vodafone and t-mobile ect.
Just updated to 1.28 (UK unbranded phone). Obviously too early to say if there's any difference in battery life..... here's hoping.

Portico Update in Germany

Hello all,
I dont know how many people are here from Germany and have the Lumia820, but I will inform you that in Germany the rollout for the Portico Update for our devices has started!
I installed it yesterday on my TMobile device by OTA, it took round about half an hour to Update my device. Everything works fine!
Now I have the version 1232.5951.1249.1004 installed.
The main problem which I think is now solved, was that people have problems to hear me during a phone call.
I tested it yesterday and it seems now that the Update solved it, because people can now hear me clear! Very good.
Other improvment is, that you can allow now WLAN is activ under Lockscreen. Other things I didn't noticed.
Maybe the information is important for someone.
Greets
Update available in The Netherlands also (Vodafone)
Yes, my 820 came from Germany (sim unlocked) and yesterday I update my phone to Portico.

Lollipop at last

Hi Guys.
I've got a sim-free Note3 and I'm using an O2 sim. Yesterday the Lollipop v5.0 was pushed to my device.
Does anyone know if that means that I'll get a further update to 5.01, 5.02, 5.x sometime soon?
Thanks.
Steve
What is your csc?

If its an O2 phone you get the O2 update .
Sim is nothing to do with updates .
O2 Android 5 has been available for weeks .
Thanks guys. I've no idea what 'csc' is?
It's not an O2 phone, it's sim-free, I just happen to use an O2 sim with it - does that make a difference?
It might have been available for weeks, but it only got pushed to my phone yesterday.
Thanks
Steve
I highly believe we will get Android M update, officially.
@OP: Just enjoy the 5.0 update. There won't be any 5.0.1 or 5.0.2, at least not very soon. Cause 5.0 has been available for a lot of countries for over two months now, and there is absolutely no scene of 5.0.1 or 2, so better believe that those won't come. I am just happy to see that Samsung finally pushed an update which got rid of that delay while clearing recent apps, however that was just release for one country, but I am sure a wider scale of the same will be released soon.
Thanks guys! That's just what I feared. Just shame that such a great phone lags behind other, older models. My wife's Galaxy S4 is on 5.01!
A phone has a number of codes ( as shown in Kies )
Basically if its a O2 supplied phone it will have an O2 code and O2 are the ones that update the firmware if they want to .
Generic non branded as in UK BTU may or may not be in advance or delayed .
Who gets the upgrade first is very varied and over the years its varied from country to country getting first releases . Usually the non branded gets released well before the branded stuff .
Thanks. I'd read that sim-free unbranded phones were always LAST to get updates. It's confusing!

Battery and performance issues with OS travel

Hi all,
I have been happy enough with my S8+ 128 gb 6GB Ram phone. Annoyed that I needed to change to HK official firmware from Chinese Mainland firmware initially, but having google native just worked out better. Annoyed that the language barrier means that I have probably no warranty or support etc form samsung ... but whatever, right?
My problem has been that I recently travelled to my home country - do so once or twice a year. Popped my China Mobile sim out for a Telstra one. Could not get my s8+ to last longer than a half day. Ran really warm too.
Now I am back in mainland china... Working smoothly again.
I didn't have time to mess around with it, as I was on holiday and busy enjoying that. But ... I'm going back in June with this phone again.
I wonder if anyone has some real understanding of why this happened and what I can do to arm against it next trip.
Really ... Should this be happening with an international company like Samsung?
Thoughts or advice?
