[Q] Poor signal (LTE) - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. Does anyone noticed problem with signal strength on LTE mode? I do have non-branded version of S6 bought in Poland.
As I written, signal strength on LTE mode is very poor (1 bar, sometimes 2 bars). When I changed network mode from LTE/WCDMA/GSM to WCDMA/GSM it started to work normally (3-4 bars, but it's H+ only). Is there any fix of it, or we need to wait to OTA Update?

I have the same problem since I got the s6 in March

On other phones do you have similar problem or only on s6?

My S6 W8 on Telus loses signal and usually requires a reboot to get it to hook up again. Never had a cell phone that behaved like this before.

[Q] Basebands

My wife has just bought an M2. The signal on it in our home is terrible - nowhere near as good as her old Samsung Galaxy.
Can anyone tell me what basebands are available for this phone, where I can get them from and the flash process please?
Thanks :good:
It's not the baseband, it's the way that the stock sony roms handle low signal areas. You need to set it on GSM only mode, if it is on WCDMA (3G) preferred, it tends to disconnect in low signal areas. Both my Xperia M and M2 have exhibited this behavior on stock rom, CM11 on the Xperia M didn't.

Phone signal showing zero bars

I just got a new xperia z5 and I'm using it on att but my phone signal is always showing zero bars.
I get data but incoming calls sometimes don't go through or go through after 2-3 rings.
The signal shows bars when I make outgoing calls but then disappears quickly thereafter. I thought it was maybe WiFi calling enabled but I don't even see that option anywhere in my phone and this happens when WiFi is off too.
This is a very strange phenomenon and can't find any answers anywhere. There is also a small circle with a line going through it on the notification bar, not sure what that is.
Does anybody know what's wrong ?
Small circle with line indicates "do not disturb" mode is active. Its under sound or notification settings, can't remember which. For signal status, check APN. Also, is your IMEI for this phone the Z5 one or an old AT&T phone? If AT&T has your IMEI for the Z5 it will register on their system as an old phone since they don't have Z5 in portfolio. I had to give them an old IMEI off a LTE device from AT&T because it was showing as a P series phone in the system and I was only getting 3G, no LTE.
Just noticed the small circle was for sounds. Thanks
I am getting LTE which is weird because it just not showing any bars on top but the lte works.
No one else has issues with their signal bar on their xperia z5?
This is really strange and can't figure out what's wrong with it.
No issues with the bars per say but definitely issues toggling networks, especially with 3G prefered mode. When 3G prefered selected I only get mobile data when H+ icon shows next to the bars. 3G, 2G and H don't work! The phone sometime takes up to 10-30 seconds to toggle to H+ and be connected. This drives me nuts! Do you guys experience this as well? Today I got no signal at all (no bars, nothing) for two hours.
Stamina is off and I have proper signal.
SFR France btw.
Try to toggle LTE off.
This sounds like an issue I had with a data only SIM in Japan with my S6, except no 2G network was the cause I think, not sure what would cause it on AT&T.

It's strange because I show full bars when I make an outgoing call or right before someone calls me, all the bars fill up. But it takes 2-3 rings on their side for it to ring on my phone.
And after the call it goes back to zero bars. But I still have the lte sign there.
Is there a way to update the gsm radio?
Same issue here (Z5 on ATT). I get one bar consistently when the phone is idle with the bars filling up when making calls, sending texts, etc., but I do get full LTE speeds and haven't noticed any other problems... I did look at my account, and the Z5 does show up as an "unknown device".
I tried changing APNs from "Attnextgenphone" to just "ATT Phone" but it didn't make a difference...

I am glad I am not the only one with this issue. At home I get one bar with wifi off and with wifi connected I get zero bars until a call is made or received.
I am located in NYC and have the 32.0.A.6.152 rom and the baseband is 8994-FAAAANAZQ-00029-16

Exactly the same here (FW and baseband). I'm in CO and I do sometimes get full bars outdoors, but it happens randomly... It's almost for sure a problem on ATTs end considering that they don't even recognize the device on their website.

Is there a newer baseband that we can upgrade to that will fix this signal issue?
Or de we have to wait till the marshmallow upgrade comes out.

Hi, it's a high probability that you are seeing bar fluctuations as you suggest because your phone is actually changing bands during this time, because the cell tower pushing your call etc doesn't have the signal strength to push LTE.
As for the OP if his LTE/4G shows higher bars as soon as he is using the internet this is a different issue, and strange maybe faulty hardware.
I would recommend you all go somewhere where you know there is good coverage, even with another phone if possible and see if you still have the same issue.

Mate I am not sure the phone suffers from signal issues, I have had most of the Z series phones, all have the exact same signal strengths for me at various locations, and the phone has better coverage than other manufacturers as well, when I compare to other friends in super low coverage areas
Hey @bigneeker,
Just wondering if the MM update has fixed your signal issue.
For me it hasn't, but if it did for you then it might be a region issue (mine was Singapore, but I flashed the MM update for Germany).
Cheers,

It didnt for me
I noticed it too. Sony xperia z5. I use the quick LTE toggle and when LTE is on, all my bars are greyed out, but when LTE is off and I'm on H+ and 3G then all my bars are lit up.

Same here. Also, whenever I lose signal or inexplicably switch to Edge, toggling the LTE switch off and on seems to fix the issue.
I compared the specs of the Z5 and the specific bands/frequencies AT&T uses, and the problem might be the frequency that they use on Band 12... I don't know.
I don't know about European carriers, but since T-Mobile uses a different band for its LTE, then that might explain why this issue is not that well-covered in the US (though I can't confirm that).
Cheers,

I'm in Ireland and my signal suddenly went from H+ to Edge then no service. I haven't came across another person with the same issue, my signal goes between H+ and no service most of the time is no service. Tried 5 different firmware and custom rom nothing changed

Signal is quite low, anyone experienced the same?

Hi all,
My xperia xz having 1 bar reception almost every time, any has the same problem as me?
Sometimes 2 or 3 bars, and 4 bars is rarely happen.
I also tried my sibling's simcard(other telco), 1 bar in my room and 2/3 bars when i walk to main door. Any suggestions? Thanks
Mine seems to as well, in thinking it could be cosmetic issue?
Otherwise maybe the wrong baseband?
Not too sure. Was yours purchased through import or local supplier?

Not sure then \o/
I have my Z2 and XZ side by side.
One bar less on the XZ.
It's not cosmetic : at places where I have from 1 to 2 bars on the Z2 (at work), the XZ is between no connexion and poor connexion.
At home, 3 bars on the Z2, 2 bars on the XZ.
(both without cases during my tests).
Mine appears low most of the time, but the signal is fine. Check with an app like LTE Discovery and see if the signal is really as low as it looks. I know that when I flashed a UK (and now AU) firmware to enable the fingerprint reader, the signal indicator lost a bar and always looks lower than the US one for some reason.
Mine also looks low but reception is always good and I have met been out of reach of had calls dropping. So I am not worried
But I do think my WiFi reception is slightly less than my previous HTC one m7

Sitting in the same spot, my Z2 works fine while my XZ could not connect to Internet and calls are not possible. This is with the same SIM card tried. Where there is low signal, my XZ shows "No Service", not a single bar. Could not locate network as well. I already sent it to Sony center. Hopefully, they would not just run software repair and return it to me because I have done that and it didn't help.
Just found out the problem, the problem is not the phone... it's the telco im using. If I switch to LTE, some place that doesn't have strong LTE signal, the phone will get low reception. If I allowed max connection to 3G, I get full bars. So no worries and thanks.
it actually is a bug in Sony firmware. They way they calculate the display against the signal strength is wrong. why on Earth Sony shows 1 bar with 86db and 53 asu while for example Huawei p9 for exactly the same signal values shows 4 out of 5 bars.
XZ signal display is simply unrealistic.
In my case, xz dual, Polish operator play, net signal is best I had in Android phone.
i have full bars on 3g but on 4g(LTE) i get from1 to 3 bars at most....so it looks like that this behavior is normal for Sony LOL
IMHO don't compare bars to bars. Signal bars are always a completely arbitrary representation. Instead, use the SIM status in settings or whatever other signal measuring app to see the dBm or asu. I have compared my XZ signal to Huawei Mate 9, Galaxy S5, Motorola X Style, and Motorola Nexus 6, and have had equal or greater signal (with concrete dBm numbers) compared to every one.

Your explanation makes a lot of sense, I wondered about singal being low sometime but knew the phone was still having good singal thru lte discovery app on the playstore

Galaxy S6 (T-Mobile, G920T) weak data signal/reception

Hey guys,
I'm going a little nuts with this problem. My previous phone (a LG G3) went bad on me (GPU burnout) so I replaced it with a refurbished Galaxy S6. I've had this phone for about a week, but I notice a considerate drop in signal strength. I'm getting EDGE (2g) way more often than LTE, and in general just slower data speeds. My plan has enough high-speed data, so it's not throttling.
By the way, in comparison, my wife's G2 is getting a much quicker data connection than mine.
Thoughts?
What firmware do you have? Maybe you should flash other modem to get better reception. Every phone have different antena moint in different place so the signal strenght depend of various things. Maybe you have metal case which lowers signal strengh. You have to check this and test by your own

The phone is not in a case, and I have the most current firmware for it.

Question Losing Signal when phone switches from 5G to LTE.

Hello, I need help
I have a US S22 Ultra. I unlocked all the 5G bands so I can use 5G Here in the Philippines. This was working for me for a few months now until an update broke it last week. Tried reformatting and flashing the firmware then redoing the instructions and it's still broken.
What's happening now is everytime it switches from 5G to LTE or vice versa both sims loses signal for 10-15s this happens multiple times a day and my battery depletes like crazy and my phone gets hot.
Attached a screenshot below of what it looks like when the signal drops. Using S22 Ultra SM-S908U1 (XAA) with one physical sim and one e sim
Thanks!

After you did all the steps , was the sign showing for 5G or it stayed LTE but with faster download speed?
