[Q] ideas for traveling with pics and vids? - General Topics

Just got my first motorcycle. Planning ahead for some long trips. I was thinking about how I can take lots of pictures and videos. In my researching I came up with a idea I'd like to toss around and get ideas or pointers from others. I was not sure what section to post my question. So I did it under General.
I rooted a tablet to have full access to a OTG USB with a SD card reader. My thoughts are to take pictures with our phones, and being that we will be packing light on a motorcycle. And out cellphines only have 3gb of shared data. I was thinking about planning stops to different public and motel and camp sights wifi hotspots.
What do you think?
I recently read that some places have a upload cap after so many uploads. Is this true? And unsure of upload speeds. I've been looking around for paid hotspots. Like Ipass or some other one I came across.
And ideas or input would be a lot of help for the ol lady and i. Thank you all

"Any ideas or input" (sorry. Texting from the phone.)

Some advice just for your reference.
You may use some cloud storage services. For example, Dropbox, Google Drive,..., or any other Cloud storage.
In general, any free edition of these cloud storage services does have an upload cap. But if you need, you may get a paid edition for more upload limit.

Have you considered putting up a NAS at home, and directly uploading to that?
Although personally I use a 2TB portable harddrive formatted to ExFAT and just copy to that. That's the Non-root solution.

Please help me in choosing web hosting

Hi everyone,
I am sorry for possible offtopic, but I need your help in find new web hosting provider as soon as possible, because my current host (bluehost.com) is kicking me off, they say 'your account is using a lot server resources', but my website gets only about 200 visitors per day and my disk usage is 1500 MB (maybe they do not like that?)
Anyway, what would be your recommendations for getting reliable web hosting? Where are you hosting your websites? Are you happy with your providers?
I am now checking http://www.hosting24.com/ - offer looks very nice, but is it real that they can provide unlimited disk space?
I have contacted them about this question and they say something that "These days 500GB disk drive costs only $30 per month, so if some day we will run out of disk space we will simply add new 500GB disk drive with almost zero costs and you can continue uploading without any problems".
What do you think about it? Maybe things have changed in last 4 years? With my current provider I get only 2GB of disk space for $10 per month..
Any ideas and suggestions are much appreciated.
if your website is not that complicated then host it your self. it is really not that hard.
how would you host a website yourself
here are the basics. i have my server located at josefcrist.no-ip.org
it is not on right now because it is not hosting any thing but my personal ftp server.
http://www.desktoprating.com/Web-Hosting/Hosting-your-Website.htm
This isn't in the right forum, BTW. There's an off topic forum around for this :-D
I've used godaddy for a while and they've been pretty good, you might want to give them a try...not the best, but good in terms of price, depending on what you're looking for.
Bluehost is known for such crap and paying 10$ is very high.
I prefer followings:webhostingpad.com or hostmonster.com
I don't know about webhostingpad, but I know hostmonster looks rather shady to me. I was looking for hosting a while ago and came across several places that sounded very good, but when I looked them up, for each one, there would be sites saying how bad they are and recommending other hosts, which had the same things said about them on other sites. ("review sites") All in all, the sites look like they were *very* similar, and I think it's just one business selling hosting under many domain names and trying to build "credibility" of one or two names by spitting on another. Look them up and see if you can follow a chain and find a pattern...I don't have any proof on that, but it's my $0.02

Web Hosting

Attention all Developers, I have more web space than I know what to do with! I wan't to contribute to the community, as this is the best way I know how. You will get a sub-domain with as much data space and bandwith as you need. Well as much as you need for your android work, I can't back up your computer. Anyway if you are interested I will gladly host your files.
You will recieve:
SFTP access (includes shell)
Unlimited Data (within reason)
Unlimited Bandwith
Sub-Domain at blueman9.com
And if I host enough devs I will spring for a proper Android related domain name.
Best way to contact me [email protected]
I am now hosting files for:
Maxisma http://maxisma.blogspot.com
Same here guys! I have a couple of massive reseller accounts, so if you'd like to space either on a subdomain or your own domain. Let me know!
bump, in order to bump apparently i need a longer reply. LOL
Always up
Just popin it up again to see if anyone else wants some free web hosting love, already got Maxisma.
Bumper
Bumper rails for bowling.
Stop posting new post is somebody is interesting he will contact you by MP.
If you haven't receive any MP probably devs already have all they want.
Where are your servers based, and how much bandwidth do you guys have?

Yea or perhaps its so buried by every one posting on the roms threads. "Just installed your latest update!" that the devs don't see it. It's usually not somethign they are searching for. The have rapidshare, it just sucks, cause we all have to deal with adds and slow downloads.
And I'm sorry is 1 post in 17 days really that annoying? Especially when I am offering services for the benifit on all at xda dev? You really should find better things to post on.

California, and I don't have a limit on bandwith. I'm sure it is, but my hosting company says they don't care how much I use. We will see but it's reliable.

ROM hosting

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right forum for this idea, but I have a webhost account that I already pay for and get 150gb of space and 1.5tb of bandwidth each month. I host 3 tiny websites on it and have a crapton of space and bandwidth left. In an attempt to give back to the devs on here for all their hard work, I'd like to offer to host ANY ROM for ANY DEVICE on my webserver , free of charge , with no strings attached. My way of saying thanks for doing kickass work all the time. If anyone is interested, send me a PM on here or email me @ [email protected]

Make sure that what you host lacks proprietary binaries, otherwise you could be subject to C&D's.

Thanks for the heads up kind sir.
If that hosting is your generic $10/mo for all you can eat plans, forget it. After the first few roms start consuming some serious bandwidth, your host will find a way to get rid of you. Simply because, most servers have a global 2TB/monthly allotment - so offering 1.5TB to a single account is just plain overselling and are screwed if you use it. I'm pretty sure this is the case because you stated that the websites are small, so chances are you haven't hired your own dedicated servers for them.
Not having a dig or anything, really kind thing to do, just don't want you going through the hassle then getting yourself suspended in the process.

Its godaddy if that makes a diff.... I'm still up for trying
I was thinking of something similar. Give me a little more time to finish up my site. I host my own site from my living room. So I dont pay host fees. Might be able to help out.
Well, I have web hosting service in Thailand.
But it is for Local P2P not for web, so they not offer me an International Bandwidth.
Things I need just 600 baht/month for additional IP Address and International Bandwidth (not sure for the price).
I have 180GB Partition for storage something but I can offer it for storage.
PS. International Bandwidth maybe very bad because I didn't co locating at CAT IDC. The next things is I can offer an unlimit data transfer.
PS2. 34baht=1USD

Free 50GB Cloud Storage

Disclaimer: This has been around others forums and I searched before making new thread in the SGS4G. This happened with iPhone users first. I'm not getting paid or anything for this. If you are a troll, expect to get troll'ed back or STFU. No forums sheriffs needed, STFU too.
What's this about? Well, www.box.net is giving away 50GB of cloud storage for Android users and for free. It's similar to Dropbox, but 5GB x 10! If you want to get it, do this:
1. Download Box app from market... I mean Play.
2. Sign up or log in from your phone.
3. Enjoy new app and mass 50GB storage!
Tell your friends and hurry up because this ends on friday!
Ive seen this too. Most of the time they say its not as good as dropbox because of the 100mb limit on file size for uploading.
I got it for personal use but like drop box better just for file sharing.

[Completed] Newbie wannabe tech geek trying to root old Samsung Admire...

So, here's the deal, I have 2 of these things, the SCH-R720s, and I have no phone service on either, nor do I plan to ever have phone usage...I have them primarily for cameras, apps, and MP3, of course, so what I'd like to do should be relatively simple, I don't need a fancy ROM or anything that runs both the "mini computer" capabilities as well as the phone...I simply want my handheld cam with some apps and music! I have 2, as I said, one with a 32 G SD card, the other has a tiny 2 G, which I know I need to upgrade. I also bought an extended battery + back for it, as well (the phone, unlocked on Amazon was $15 & I'm the cliche starving artist, so, there ya go ). These things take better pix than most cams now, esp. for price. Now, I'd REALLY like to get a 64 g or larger SD for one of them and make that my VIdeo cam phone ( + some apps, like a couple social, mostly editing, and of course, music), while the other will have the 32 for still photography and much the same make up. Therefore, I need a quick, to the point root that will work, and I then need to uninstall not only bloatware, but all of the Metro apps as well as getting rid of the phone service apps (I dont need contacts other than those thru gmail and FB, for instance). Here's my big problem: Neither of them have much internal mem to speak of, so I have tried to manually delete/force stop/clear data on a bunch of these running apps only to find them running again. I have CLEAN MASTER, which I use constantly on one of them (it now has like 23% mem left, which is huge compared to when I had the 32 g SD in, where it ran down to lik 1% crazy ****....I figure it was all the background and cache and junk associated with the apps that were on the card, I get that, but still! Ok, so, what should I do? Should I go with Droid Gator or the Unlock Samsung Guide had me d/l SRS Root app to root via my Win PC (HP Celeron, 4 gHz processor, 400+gig hard drive, etc. loaded with Win 8.1)? Here's another thing: I downloaded a driver pkg from Samsung for the Admire, and while my PC recognizes it, it does NOT let me access it as a Removable USB Mass Storage Device (F: Drive is greyed out), but it shows as though I should be able to! Otherwise, I'd empty the SD cards (tons of pix, of course) onto my disk, but the only way I'm currently able to do this is by sharing from the Admire via Gmail, which takes forever! Rooting should NOT mess with the SD card, right? Forgive my ignorance, I am a newb, but wanting to learn so bad and PSYCHED about manually tinkering with them until they are exactly what I want! As I said, this seems like it SHOULD be simple enough in my head, but I am NOT a tech geek by any stretch, I've really had to learn trial and error and did not really even have modern access until recently, so pretty quick learner, just overwhelmed by choices right now and unable to weed through the mess to find the best. Into FileSharing (KAT, of course) and realized how much in common I have politically, and in attitude toward so-called "anarchists" and "hackers"--not malicious, of course, simply INFO for free for everyone! I am a Socialist Anarchist in my views anyway (though b/c I'm poor I always vote Democrat...hey, Flower Child mama, what do you expect, right)...but I digress. THe point is, I am researching all of these sites and got yours thru Lifehacker. I've also been to Hexamob and currently watching some of the youtube tutorials right now. I'm a writer and LOVE researching (writer, performer, amateur photographer, aspiring filmmaker/producer), so ANY kind of advice is so welcome and would be very appreciated! I'll keep looking around, but making a profile and hoping to connect with you smarties who have loved and been exposed to tech far longer! My website will be listed, it has my short stories on it and I'm always adding, so if you like weird **** (horror/psych thriller/some sci fi), you might like. Feedback is very welcome and I'm all over social media, same name spelled weird, so please, comment, contact, connect! AND, while I'm at it, some collaboration as far as NETWORKING goes would be great, too--I'll gladly advertise for you on my site and you read my stories, pass them on, etc (scratching the proverbial backs, right)! So, thank you in advance for reading my little rant here, cannot wait to touch base with some people who know more than the couple of tech geeks I know (I say that with utmost respect, I myself am a Theatre Geek, so you can see why I'm such a damn newb )! Hello and thank you for using XDA Assist.
We cannot provide technical support nor can other members reply to your posts here on XDA Assist. There is no forum specifically for the Samsung Admire/VItality at this time but you may want to ask your question in a concise fashion in the friendly general Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum at http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help. That's a good place to start where members familiar with your device might be able to advise you. I also see a number of references to the SCH-R720 from a site search a thttp://forum.xda-developers.com/sitesearch.php?q=SCH-R720 which might be worth reviewing.
Good luck!
