Unless you backed up your DRM keys before unlocking the bootloader you have lost them for good.....
yes can relock using flashtools but as mentioned, drm is lost forever if not backed up earlier.
Don' t worry, there is not much difference between having DRM keys on board, or not.

Screen Mirroring works for me, and I have an unlocked bootloader, no TA partition backed up, no DRM keys restored.
Is it? Thats nice then. Just to highlight that screen mirror & throw are two diff things. Losing drm also losing x-reality, supervivid and many more which already discussed many times here on xda.

X-Reality works fine too.
And I'm pretty sure I lost the DRM keys, because I get an [Unknown Error] while checking MARLIN key, even if it says [Active]
All the things that shouldn' t work after unlocking, work.
Maybe there was a glitch when I unlocked, anyhow, it' s like I never unlocked, all the functions work.
wow. that's a breaking news. I remember on early release of kitkat fw updates where x-reality works on UB but then sony fix it on next updates. if they really do it on puspose for lollipop & future updates, many will appreciate sony. im going to test them right away..

I am buying a used Z3. Although the seller says its almost brand new and never rooted but how can i confirm that DRM keys are still there. A search for google only gets result for how to backup them up. How can i check they are still there? Thanks.
easiest :
dial *#*#7378423#*#* > service tests > security
if all [Key OK] means all keys intact.
I have nine keys.
All are [Active]
Only three are with an [Uknown Error]
But still, all are [Active] and all functions of the phone are working good.
@TheTeslaCoil
mate ur info is misleading. others, please be on high cautious when unlocking bootloader. make sure DRM is backed up or risk of losing it forever.
im on latest LP & i can confirm 100% x-reality/supervivid is not working w/o DRM keys by default.

True, best is to back up TA. I didn' t do it, but ofcourse the DRM keys are there for a reason, so if someone want' s my advice, don' t unlock the bootloader.
Restoring DRM will bring back the functions, but still...so if you like the phone as it is, keep it that way.
If you cannot restore TA, this break device warranty.

First, sorry for my poor english. I am Brazilian ...
I searched the forum but have not found a way to relock the bootloader without the TA backup. And the topics I found the link was already broken.
Would anyone answer me?
The concern is that the update came, but I can not update. And come to think that maybe JB version 4.3.

You can't. There is your answer. TA backup is a must in order to get DRM keys back. Without them even if you can lock the bootloader only thing you will acomplish is the fact that you will not be able to flash ROMs or kernels on it.

Hey mate, you should have researched a bit more before unlocking your bootloader cause it's simply not possible to relock it without a TA backup.
And also the 'update' isn't JB 4.3 xD it's still at 4.2
Incase you didn't know, you can still update your firmware even with your bootloader being locked. Just flash an ftf, grab the latest ftf here
And flash your phone via flashtool. Incase ya didn't know how to, refer to this tutorial
Hope that answers it.

You are right, friend. I really should have researched better before unlocking. But my biggest concern is with the possible updates that can go for the XL.
But at least I can update it according to the standard TFT that are on the forum via Flashtool.

I think I might be able to get your TA backup and make your phone fully running, however, I need to ask few questions :
Did you unlock your bootloader the official way (via Sony ) or via flashtool ?
Did you update your firmware using your Sony PC Companion ?
If you unlocked your boolater the official way (Sony Way) and Updated the firmeware using Sony PC companion, I guess there is something that could be done! TA tool may still be able to locate your backup in your phone!
I never backed up my TA and I know it was a mistake but I managed to get my phone relocked (updates and everything works from Sony).
I am not sure how this worked but I recently relocked my bootloader by flashing ftf file which I made from Sony Update(and I unlocked it the day I bought which was like months back without back). Lucky for me, it also included TA in the ftf file name as UNKNOWN, DATA, etc
After flashing that, I used flashtool to relock my bootloader and I even managed to make a backup of TA with DRM keys!
I am not sure if that be of help but I explained the procedure if you want to give it a try! Do write me back if it works for you!
Steps :If you Unlocked bootloader the official way (SONY website). It might just work if you didnot even!
Try TA tool for backup TA. If that doesnot work, do this :
Update or repair your firmware using Sony Companion
Make FTF using flashtool from your Sony Companion backup
flash FTF without deselecting any date ( all including TA and UNKNOWN)
Use TA tool to make a backup
Relock bootloader using TA Tool or flashtool (I am not sure if DRM keys will be replaced but I guess I should make your phone running fully)
Good Luck!

DRM keys will not be there. To lock bootloader is easy, just use flashtool. But without TA backup there is no point since those keys are unique to every single device out there. Without them there is no gain whatsoever in locking bootloader.

Thank you for your contribution but I am afraid I will have to completely disagree with you!
I unlocked my bootloader around the time there wasnot Xperia L forum on the XDA and I am very sure that I DIDNOT backup my TA at all. I was careless and I was working on ROM so I needed it. I did it the official way though!
I relocked my bootloader using flashtool and I did get all the updates from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 (till the lastest one till date using PC companion). And Ironically, I am always on the first update schedule to receive updates in the UK whilst many regions do not have got any update at all.
However, in between I got an update which I couldnot update. I had long forgotten about my unlocked bootloader and thus I was puzzled what was I doing wrong. Then, out of now where I checked for my bootloader status and found it was UNLOCKED. I again relocked it with FLASHTOOL. I updated to latest firmware and unlocked it again.
Then, I thought maybe I should backup my TA. I knew I had lost my DRM keys so I just gave it a try using above method and it WORKED for me as I had been making backups of my FTF all along for my device! My bootloader is locked now and it works perfectly. There isnot any problem that I face apart from proximity bug (which is firmware related)
I am afraid that either you prove me wrong by giving a PROOF of a time where you lost your TA and YOU had to buy a new phone
OR
Donot write something that you are partially sure or you have heard from somewhere!
@Redzo and u are a true idiot (kid) who is even too scared to shown his real nation. and yes they will come withought drm. for me pls just shut up, cuz i dont want to argue with dumbass like u anymore. kids shouldnt talk u know...

Since you're up to 4.2.2, (assuming locked bootloader?) then there is not much outside of a factory reset to fix your phone's problems.
You might just have to get a warranty replacement.

If you have a locked bootloader, it means the phone is locked down to where you cannot use custom recoveries (like CWM or TWRP) and you cannot flash ROMs that have a different kernel than what is currently on your phone. There's a whole host of other things, but that's the main issue.
Unless your phone is on JB version 9.16.9 or earlier (AND no one has flashed a later version and then flashed back to the previous version), then you cannot unlock the bootloader on this phone anymore.

you cannot unlock the XT926 with the official unlocker from Motorola unless it's the dev edition. Only the XT925 can be unlocked via the Motorola unlocker (at least for the RAZR HD phones).
But, you are already on Kit Kat. You even quoted where I said if you are apply an OTA greater than 9.16.9 version, you CANNOT unlock your bootloader ever. Once you do that on an XT926, you've patched the exploit that allowed unlocking the bootloader and nothing will ever put it back because it's in a protected area that you cannot flash back to a previous version to put the exploit back in.
Sorry, once you took the KitKat upgrade, you've lost any chance of unlocking the bootloader. Don't even try to flash back to a previous version. You'll brick your device. This has been stated over and over and over again since the KitKat ota has been released.

There is no way to unlock it, ever. Don't wait for a fix, as there is no fix to unlock the bootloader. It was never meant to be unlocked. It was unlocked via a security exploit and that exploit was patched after 9.16.9. There is no way to "fix" it.
As for your phone restarting, I would say a factory data reset is probably your only cure. It wipes everything (including your internal SD card), so be sure to back up what you can, especially pictures, etc.
Hey guys,
How can I root my phone without unlocking my bootloader? I can't seem to find anything useful.
Thanks.
You can't. Unlocking the bootloader is the required first step to rooting.

I'm not convinced too, but I unlocked my bootloader since I really want to have Viper4Android at least and to be able to remove some apps. How can I know if I properly relocked my bootloader? I have backed-up my TA partition.
Marshmallow is hard to root via system modifacation
This is why systemless root exists, if you was to do this on a locked bootloader device you may brick the device hence as of now and probably a decant bit into the future a unlocked bootloader is required
However you can downgrade your firmware and backup your TA Partition and restore at a Later date
You can do this via a tool called Ivyroot

After relocking the bootloader you can check in service menu or try to repair ur phone with xperia companion, if you succeed than ur bootloader is locked successfully.

That your TA partition is wiped. Re-locking the bootloader and restoring the TA partition are completely separate steps. If you didn't make a backup of the TA partition before unlocking the bootloader, it's gone forever.
...It's gone forever. But if you want to stay rooted, and get all Sony's upgrades like Camera enhancements or other TA provided tweaks you can use DRM Key Fix or install a custom ROM which include it (like RomAur which is great)
I have managed to relock it, you gotta have the stock kernel installed before you can relock it. That sucks :3
How about downgrading to 32.0.A.4.11 firmware? Can we root after downgrading to that with Kingroot?
Hi, what exactly does this mean?
I get this message when booting the device into recovery, or "download mode"
I just picked up a used htc u11 from ebay, and I intend to run totally stock and would like to receive OTA updates.
I would guess this phone has been rooted in the past, although I am not entirely sure.
I would like to know what exactly this message means, what is going on.
It's a Sprint phone, I recently flashed the device with stock RUU firmware package (bundled with installer) obtained directly from htc, though this did not remove the failed security check.
Also, would it be possible to return this phone to 100% stock? Thanks.
It seems the security check is part of the htc security feature (S-ON) primarily intended to protect the radio and sim. Though any more information here would greatly be appreciated.
Not exactly sure what cause any security check to fail, or what part of the phone would need to be changed to where a stock rom flash would not revert any changes.
Further information -
Device state is locked,
Secure state is on (S-ON)
Secure boot reads as "PRODUCTION"
Software status reads as "OFFICIAL"

The specific message I get says "Security checking failed DENY"
Then followed by a basic warning about flashing custom firmware,
Then it lists, what I assume are things it has denied,
It lists -
"SD NOT MOUNTED"
"OTG NOT MOUNTED"
"File NOT FOUND"
I don't want to pass this off as a generic warning, or a bug, perhaps as something which has stuck from a previous root attempt, and is harmless.
I am definitely concerned that the phone may have been tampered with by some other means for "S-ON" feature to be complaining this way.
Once again, I have already flashed the phone with stock htc firmware, I don't see a reason for any of this.
Please excuse my lack of knowledge on this subject. I even tried searching for "htc download mode" which in itself I am also unaware of, and any information is hardly available online for even this. "download mode" seems to be a part of some firmware which comes before the bootloader, or is a different part of the bootloader itself, and needs SD/OTG/file access for some kind of update purpose, which in itself is different from the one already provided by the default recovery mode.
This is getting rather silly.
It would seem normal to "DENY" SD/OTG access, because download mode should not be open or ready this way by default, but perhaps it's something which is designed to recover the phone in case even the bootloader becomes corrupt? I'm really not sure.
Seems normal to deny this, but once again I really don't know.
This "security check failed DENY" message is rather confusing. Do you perhaps need some kind of key to activate download mode?

As I already stated, the device is locked. Thanks for your input though.
It really seems like the S-ON feature is reporting a failed signature check, that is obviously my biggest concern.
And I don't know what the stock htc firmware actually replaces, so please, if anyone can help, that would be especially appreciated.
These phones are actually solid in quality and build, and no other devices are priced this low on the used market, so there is really no other option , as I don't wish to overpay several hundred more dollars for used previous gen hardware. I am definitely content with the Snapdragon 835 and especially the Adreno 540.
anyone?
Did not expect this thread to go completely ignored this way... come on guys
I'm with miffymiffy on this one. I have the same warning. Afaik there's no way to remove it, even if you're successful in relocking it. Just read all the threads pertaining to S-ON/OFF.

As I already stated, the device is locked. Thanks for your input though.

@cynikZA is correct:
Once the bootloader has been unlocked that warning is there forever.
Relocking won't get rid of it.

Yes it seems that way, but what about the functionality of download mode?
Seems like file access is denied. Does this mean that download mode is no longer functional?

Alright, thanks.
Hi,
I want to unlock my bootloader to install the Indonesian Rom,
when I unlock I get this message

If I relock after flashing the new Rom will the phone be protected again ?
also, has any one else have problems with dark mode ?
Thank you in advance,
Itai.

Those tips are just a confirmation. If you are worried about what it's telling you, then don't unlock bootloader.

Only if you flash your own region stock back. Eg. your device is Indian, then you have to flash back to Indian Rom, then you can relock.
If you relock when having different region Rom, there might cause some problem or even brick your phone.
If you are going to use other region Rom, then do not relock the boot loader.

Some apps don't work , and for some i found that i can disable dark mode and then they work and there text is visible
Anybody please feel free to correct if I'm wrong, but I think what "may damage your device or cause financial loss" is exactly that custom ROM you're flashing, nothing else.

Finger print is not as secure as device with locked bootloader. This is an example of financial loss, eg. loosing the device stolen by strangers. This is what the "find my device" option Google offers for.
Even if you have official MIUI with unlock bootloader, if people steal your device, they can take your personal data with TWRP if they crack the password and finger print.

^ hijacking this.
*** SPOILER: I've found an answer, it's below ***
This is how sorting menu looks like in Youtube Manager Studio for example. Guess it's app-specific but I've encountered couple of them not very happy about dark mode.
(I'm on Xiaomi.eu roms but stock was the same)
Any chance I could tweak it a little somewhere?
EDIT: Found solution! Just enter Settings > Display > More Dark mode options and then just disable dark mode for problematic apps. Ofc it doesn't fix dark mode for them, just removes dark mode from those specific apps, but for me it's okay as a workaround
