Has anyone else noticed that there is now a character limit in the stock SMS app? It used to split my messages after 160 characters, but now it just stops me from typing all together.
The settings menu doesn't have any options to change this anymore either. I'm kind of mad... seems like such basic functionality.
It never split my messages....there was no change between 2.3.4 and 2.3.5

That's annoying. It should send longer messages as an MMS which can be much larger.

Hmm. I'm using the stock deodexed 2.3.4 ROM and it splits my messages. Is there a custom messaging app that someone might have stuck in the 2.3.4 ROM?
Stock 2.3.5 AOSP does not limit on a gsm device, it properly splits.

very frustrating.
either way, I flashed my backup of 2.3.4 and pulled the MMS.apk off of it and stuck it in on 2.3.5 so I can split my flipping texts. this seems like such a simple feature to leave out.
PM me if you want a copy of it
Have you guys had an issue with the font size when texting?
Whenever I set my font size to small, I run into the issue where the text randomly reverts back to the default medium font size. This is becoming very frustrating and I cannot find an alternative way, outside of always going to the menu changing the font size for the particular conversation and repeating whenever the issue arises again.
Pinch and zoom the text. Not sure how to set a permanent size.

There's already a thread on this, but yes, mine is doing it too

Does anyone have a problem where the text in the sms windows get really small? It just seems to happen out of no where and randomly.

It's not an issue I don't think. It's just like pinch to zoom so you can change font size

cool I didn't know that. Thanks.

This happens to me actually. I'll go into the texting app and see that the text has turned small.

Don't agree, sorry. You can pinch to zoom to change the font size of the text bubbles, yes. But after the text has become small, if I use the pinch to zoom function to make everything bigger to the original normal size, after sending a few texts, the text will suddenly become super fat. Then I have to re-pinch/zoom back the big font down to a smaller size.
So... something is not right somewhere.
Mhm, it's a glitch, it was talked about before with no solution..
I had that issue but I just used titanium backup to restore messaging app plus data. That is if you have it backed up. If not go grab a messaging apk and that should fix your issue (hopefully more than temporarily)

Hey, after a few searches, I know this has been brought up elsewhere, but I'm just looking for updates.
I just changed over to handcent so I can have emojis, but now I'm realizing that the app doesn't work with one of my favorite features: the lock screen shortcut notification for sms/mms messages. What I'm looking for is some way that when you swipe that circle with the unread count for sms that it brings you to handcent (or whatever other 3rd party sms app) instead of the stock messaging app. I figure there has to be a way..
You're talking about on ICS TW(Stock setup) right? I don't believe that would be able to be done without a MOD of some sort.
I think you can do what you want, with a bit of a different look, using something like widget locker or some other lockscreen replacement app.

Thanks for the reply. Yea, ICS TW for now (synergy to be exact, not that it matters in this case). I really like the stock setup for the lockscteen, but I'll check out widget locker. I guess the best solution would be if someone made emojis work on rooted stock, but I'm not sure how much work that entails. I've only seen it available on AOSP

GoSms also has emoji support. But you'll run into the same issue with the lock screen.

I'm having trouble visualizing what you're both talking about, however I haven't used Synergy. Are y'all talking about the four lockscreen shortcuts or a widget on the lock screen in addition to the lockscreen shortcuts?

If you talking about the missed sms count to swipe to the left, dunno.
As for the sms icon/app you can change it under shortcuts where you toggle it on and off, you can click it and change it to your sms program.
Yeah, the OP wants to change where the missed message count brings him when he swipes it.
Long shot, but is there an ASOP messaging app we can use? And would that be able to be recognized as "stock"? I know ASOP has a mod for emojis

I did this on my old RAZR so maybe it's similar. What I did was rename the stock MMS to .bak then moved my preferred MMS app to system/app folder and renamed it to the stock MMS rebooted and it worked. Worth a shot, I'm on eclipse or I'd try it.

If it breaks anything you just delete the file you moved and thanks the original back to mms.apk
I have an inverted version of the stock MMS app (4.0.4-eng.tvap624.20120702.011632) and I can say that the notification that pops up on the stock lockscreen is unique to the Samsung mms app. This means notifications using any other mms app will not show up as a swipable event on the stock lockscreen. Inverted stock is a great version of the mms app. I just renamed secmms.apk (I believe) with .bak, put in the new app, renamed it as the original, set permissions, and rebooted. I have emoji support and messages on an all black background. It's nice.

thanks for the info. where did you get the inverted stock mms app? does it work 100%? I think this will be the best option for me since handcent has been slow and crashing. is the emoji support complete ios6?

I know, I'm actually using Handcent right now for emojis (didnt want to pay GoSMS just to send emojis).
It seems like lockscreen support is probably a complete no go unless someone somehow mods the stock mms for emojis (no idea how intense that process might be).

Lol, I never noticed you had to pay to be able to send them. My bad.
Hey does anyone know of an AOSP MMS app that can be used with stock that has the color and bubble customization. I have tried a few and they force close when going to change the colors. Must be tied I to the framework on newer base. I have tried the MMS apks from my older mods from 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 but cannot send text with those as system does not even see it as an SMS app I believe as I does not show up in list as an app that can be set as default for SMS.

Or maybe someone could look at this log and be able to tell me what I could add to allow it to work.
