Hi!
I have a 32GB Nexus 5 with only 12,55GB shown in the internal storage so I know that I should wipe all, but I was thinking:
Can I do a Data Backup (OTG) and then wipe all ,so reflash the ROM etc and than restore the data backup? Will I solve the problem? I don't want to download all again and install all the apps again and again.. If u know other ways to keep my data intact tell me then.
Thank u!

As counter-intuitive as that sounds, it actually does work.
I've restored nandroids before after wiping and had it work.
Just do a format.. and thing is done..

Titanium backup, worth every penny
There is default backup app that backups data to SD card.

Set the Titanium backup directory to /Removable/MicroSD/TitaniumBackup (selecting a directory is not user friendly, use back key to up one directory).
ARHD offers Super_Wide_Lite that does not delete /sdcard partition, it is not fun to backup 10GB of data.
sorry posted in the wrong thread..deleted.
Hello,
I have flashed hundreds of Roms on my S3 until recently landing on the ML1 Rooted from Old&Slow. The problem is that I am running out of internal storage. This is partially due to the residual files left over from Roms, Apps & Stuff.
How can I clean it out? I don't want to go in and start deleting things....out of fear of deleting the wrong files and bricking.
Running TWRP. Can I format internal storage?
If I mess up, I would have to Odin back to MF1, root, unlock....blah, blah, blah.
Maybe that's what I should do regardless...I am still partially scared that the 4.3 update will sneak on before I can ulock, root etc.....
Any easier way?
Thanks!
Yes, format internal SD.
I would factory reset, clear cache, clear dalvik cache, format system, then format internal SD card, then reflash the rom.
Everything that's needed will get repopulated when you reflash the rom, just make sure the rom and your backups are on your external SD card.

Thanks, After formatting, could I restore a backup of the rom?
I have a lot of Mods in place and would prefer to not have to set it all up again.
Thanks!

Sure you can, but if you restore a backup it'll probably just rewrite everything the exact same way it was. But it might solve the problem.

Ok, I have done my research and this is a common problem with a new flash, and it happened to me, but I didnt notice it until now. I have the 32 gig nexus, and its only utilizing half of that.
Is there any way at all to correct this without having to wipe everything? I have my phone setup like I want it, and it took a bit of workarounds with lollipop with viper and all.
Or can I at least just make a nandroid? and back up that file somewhere, and then reflash everything or do a wipe to get my space back, and then restore that nandroid? Or will that nandroid bring back the space problem?
Thanks
No. You have to wipe everything. Its the only fix.
Nandroid shouldn't cause an issue. Storage is the issue and nandroid doesn't back up or restore storage.

You can wipe userdata via fastboot and fix this issue.

This won't touch my internal SD right? So my backup would be safe? Could wipe userdata and then restore backup?
Thanks for taking the time to help.

You HAVE to wipe your "internal SD"
Take a nandroid, backup ALL your data to PC.

Which wipe command will wipe all of this?
I am comfortable using adb/fastboot or whatever, but just need to know how to completely wipe it all.
Can I just redo the factory image flash, like i did initially?

Use fastboot to erase and then flash userdata.img (not whole factory image)
formatting the userdata did the trick...thanks guys.
much appreciation.
Welp, new problem...knew it couldnt be quite that easy.
I copied my whole TWRP folder with the backup inside to my pc, now I cant copy it back. It gives me an immediate error saying it cant copy.
I can click into the folder and copy and paste just the backup folder onto my device, but how can I restore a backup from a custom location, because since twrp doesnt see the TWRP/Backups exact path, then I see no backups to restore from.
Is there a way to restore from say like just sd/backups?
so i was format my data and forgotten that i have an important notes and how stupid i am that i haven't backup my data
can i restore the data ?

Nope there is no way you can recovery it. But still you can connect your phone to pc and use mini tool partition wizard to recover lost data as if you have not much written the new data over when erased you maybe would able to recover it.

Hi, I would like to know if the folder storage/emulated is an emulated sd card ?
If I install a new rom and I do a factory reset, this folder stay here with all the data in ? Like
Titanium backup or nandroid backup ?
Thanks !

Hi, thanks for using XDA assist!
In the case of devices without true external storage, it's still necessary for Android to provide an emulated external storage in order to remain compatible with older apps. In other words the RAM is physically internal (non-removable) but a section of it is partitioned and the Android file-system APIs treat that partition as being "external" and world-readable.
Performing a factory reset will wipe all data from this partition.
Good luck!
